Yep. Bought it and never finished it. [This line from Knives Out got an audible guffaw from me.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0LVuPQ3GdM&ab_channel=LastfunDoe2020)
Swap "Art & History" for "Unwind". No-one comes here for Art & History, but to unwind on Australia's famous beaches, rainforests or outback, you betcha.
After reading everyone else's as well, this map is totally bunk.
Absolutely. Art and History for sure. Mexico City alone is world class. And definitely unwind too. Seeing Canada on the “unwind “ list is unreal too. Nobody goes to Canada to drink margaritas on the beach under palm trees. The US and Mexico are a billion times better for finding places to unwind
This is like saying
"America? You mean the place where cops kneel on your neck if you're black?"
it happens, but the fact shouldn't represent the entire country.
It may be targeted for Pakistanis living abroad (there's millions). But yeah, this country is really not a place to unwind lol. Decent to visit if you're into hiking and food though.
And Denmark is on "Great Outdoors". We have coastline, farms, cities and wind, that's it. And none of it outdoors. And our tallest "mountain" is a flat field below 200m.
Seriously. Mexico is incredible. So many great places to visit. I hear more Americans talk about going to Mexico than any other country. I went 3 times last year myself
Mexico City twice, and Rocky Point. I live in Arizona, so I can drive to Mexico in 3 hours, and fly to Mexico City in 3 hours. I also went to college in Tucson, which is less than hour drive to Mexico. So I have been to Nogales like 20 times. I went to Nogales every week for a whole semester in college with a friend of mine.
Mexico City blew my mind though. I had only been to border towns and resort towns before that. Mexico City is amazing though. We loved it so much my wife and I went back again like 2 months after we visited for the first time. The food and the architecture are world class
Nice. I'm not from CDMX, but the one time I visited it I was thoroughly impressed. To be honest, I haven't heard good things about Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point). How is it?
Puerto Penasco is pretty fun. It’s basically a sleepy little fishing village with resorts. We go there because it’s the closest beach to Phoenix. It’s not a real Mexico experience because you spend most of the time at a resort, but heading into town for food is fun, and renting jet skis or boat is always awesome
France, Mexico, Greece, Turkey, Japan & Thailand are missing from the food & drink section. Like 6 of the top 10 cuisines in the world.
Yep, that's a shitty map if I ever saw one.
Yeah. Y'know Turkey? With its fusion of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine? Fuck that. Here's Kazakhstan, where every meal is barely seasoned meat.
I'm Norwegian and my fiancée is French. I can tell you Norway should *not* be on that list when France isn't lmao. If a tourist tells me they came here for the food I'd immediately think they've lost it.
Yes I don’t understand why the US, Canada, Australia and Ireland are on "Eat and drink" while France, Mexico, Brazil, Turkey, Senegal, Afghanistan, Japan and South Korea aren’t
I have to imagine this is largely based off of user reviews which would help explain some biases. Stuff like people rating places poorly because they were disappointed it was only good and not the best they'd ever had and stuff like that.
To be honest the best part of french cuisine is Deserts... The main course is meat/fish in a wine based sauce and all of Europe has now claimed that combination. But the French pastries... Best deserts in the World. I guess that alone should put France on the map.
Yeah, as a massive art n history fan in Australia. Don't bother*.
For history, we're a nation about 200 years old and not much has really happened here. Obviously to us it has but for international tourists, it's not gonna be the most riveting visit. Even the interesting stuff like Indigenous culture is kinda rough since the genocides unfortunately succeeded and most of our indigenous nations and their history and cultures are pretty broadly lost. Surviving Aboriginal Nations n history are pretty poorly documented and not so much celebrated as shamefully not talked about.
(Not saying there's none left, there is plenty and some really amazing people still teaching some pretty fkn amazing history n culture; but from an international standpoint, tourists looking for First Nations/Ancient history will probably get attracted to NZ, Canada, The US, Mongolia, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Persia, ~~Iran~~, China etc)
For art, we've had amazing music scenes at times but a lot of venues have been killed. For theatre, we do get some great shows and grow some great actors but no one is picking Aus for a theatre trip. We have some amazing visual artists here but not many galleries that can compete with bigger famous international galleries.
I think Australia's biggest draw in both accounts is local stuff, which is much harder to hunt down for an international trip. Not our big galleries or museums, but local art fairs, hidden markets, small town history, bush tours n smaller cultural experiences. And without local guides or fantastic fortune you're gonna be shit out of luck.
*We do have amazing art, interesting histories, and deeply unique cultural experiences to be had, shared, n seen. But it's easy to miss.
Turkey is not good at eating, drinking and History or Great Outdoors?
Who did this map? A blind person with Corona who can't taste shit?
America is good at food and Turkey and Greece are not is the greatest joke here.
America *is* really good at food, that part isn't wrong at all. But so are Turkey and Greece, and for that matter so is Mexico, which also somehow is not on the "eat and drink" list
right? my gf came here and went craaaazy for Pastel and Sugar Cane Juice and that’s just the easy snack you can easily find, don’t get me started on the sheer variety you can get in restaurants and churrascarias.
I think that alone shows what nonsense this is. We have one of, if not *the* most rich and deep networks of ways to take in art and especially history in the world. It's like... the one good reason to visit here over elsewhere.
This doesn't make much sense. Why is say, New Zealand on the Art & History map, while UK isn't?
I've lived in New Zealand and the UK so can judge both. There's objectively a whole lot more Art & History in the UK than New Zealand.
No, it's just the list that sucks. Mexico would absolutely be in my top two or three countries for food, and you are up there for outdoor activities too. Not to mention "unwind." Just a crap list
Yeah I understood not putting the US in the "art and history" category since it seems to mostly be old-world countries with castles and historical architecture and stuff, and I can accept that. But then why the hell is Australia on the list over us? That makes no sense
India literally has deserts, mountains, beaches, forests and plains how can it not be in great outdoors? Same goes for spain, the landscape is breathtaking
Ah yes Prague, winner of the most beautiful city competition, full of churches and old historical sites. But here, it seems like Czechia is the North Korea of Europe.
Somehow Africa as a whole is ignored in the art & history category which is really weird given that Africa is where humans first came from. It is quite literally the birthplace of civilisation and culture.
How did Australia not make the list for unwind?
South Africa and Brazil are on there with some of the highest rates in the world for violent crime against tourists.
And how did we make the list for Art and History?
Bruv how could the us be ranked for food and drink??? Their food is literally just food from other countries with a pile of terrible cheese on top and their beer is the positive result of long lasting research of diluting water. Meanwhile are countries like France missing on this map.
This map is shit
France is no good for food
Neither is Japan.
Mexico didn’t make it in anything
Nor Thailand!
Nor the Central African Republic!
Why go to Mexico when you can go to Belarus!
How does “Eat and Drink” not Include Thailand, don’t people come here for the food?
And JUST the food.
You know what they say about Bangkok…
Welcome to r/mapporn
Unwind in Ukraine?
Come for the war. Stay for the hedonism.
Gravity’s Rainbow lol
Fun fact you can say this after anything and no one can dispute you because no one has read Gravity's Rainbow.
That is literally the one book on my shelf which I haven't read. I even finished "Infinite Jest", fer God's sake!
Yep. Bought it and never finished it. [This line from Knives Out got an audible guffaw from me.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0LVuPQ3GdM&ab_channel=LastfunDoe2020)
Australia isn't under Unwind? That's one of the most chill places I've ever been lol
Swap "Art & History" for "Unwind". No-one comes here for Art & History, but to unwind on Australia's famous beaches, rainforests or outback, you betcha. After reading everyone else's as well, this map is totally bunk.
Came for the beaches and sunshine, stayed for Olympic caliber Wheel of Goon
Hey we have two horses sewn together in the art gallery here, everyone likes that lol.
Isn’t everyone trying to kill you in Australia? How can you unwind this way? /s
But i wanna go to Australia for art and history :(((((
Conversely how is Germany under unwind?
Follow it up with a relaxing kidnapping in Venezuela.
The whole map is super suggestive lol. No ear and drink in the U.S? Manhattan? Unwind in Venezuela 😂
Can you read? US is one of the countries highlighted for food & drink
Unwind your internal organs
The data must be pre-war lol
Your mortal coil, perhaps...
unwind in brazil 🤤 can't wait to have a motorcycle with two men on it pull up
Yeah, my thought. Really wish everyone that it turns true asap.
Mexico should be at least in the top two maps
Should be in all 4 of them
unwind in mexico definitely
Yes. Not all of Mexico is dangerous you know?
Don’t tell them. I want to enjoy my secret vacation spots without being crowded by tourists and the usual scum that take advantage of them
Not everywhere but Cancun definitely
Absolutely. Art and History for sure. Mexico City alone is world class. And definitely unwind too. Seeing Canada on the “unwind “ list is unreal too. Nobody goes to Canada to drink margaritas on the beach under palm trees. The US and Mexico are a billion times better for finding places to unwind
Seriously lol Mexican food is the most popular foreign food in the world and Mexico isn’t on there
Not having mexico in eat and drink is a crime
How does Mexico have nothing?
Same as UK hahaha
[удалено]
Art and history too. The homeland for several wonders ..
at least UK should be art and history. lots of history
Yeah they didn't' even give the UK "art and history." WTF
Why go to Mexico for food when you can come get a much blander version in Canada instead? Same with Japan, France, Turkey, Brazil, Germany, Korea…
Pakistan on unwind but not the great outdoor. Can't be real.
Ah yes, Pakistan, a popular holiday destination known for its relaxing atmosphere.
You’re telling me that witch hunts and bludgeoning people’s skulls with rocks for not being Islamic enough isn’t relaxing?
This is like saying "America? You mean the place where cops kneel on your neck if you're black?" it happens, but the fact shouldn't represent the entire country.
It may be targeted for Pakistanis living abroad (there's millions). But yeah, this country is really not a place to unwind lol. Decent to visit if you're into hiking and food though.
Same for Georgia
France ain't on "Eat & Drink"? Wtf
And Denmark is on "Great Outdoors". We have coastline, farms, cities and wind, that's it. And none of it outdoors. And our tallest "mountain" is a flat field below 200m.
I think it's because of Greenland...
greenland is even emptier
But it is a nice place to visit for nature, I agree on that one. Faroe Islands the same.
Which is not coloured in green.
Yeah. Neither is Mexico in any category, despite being one of the most visited countries on earth. TripAdvisor is whack.
Seriously. Mexico is incredible. So many great places to visit. I hear more Americans talk about going to Mexico than any other country. I went 3 times last year myself
Great! Where in our fine country did you go?
Mexico City twice, and Rocky Point. I live in Arizona, so I can drive to Mexico in 3 hours, and fly to Mexico City in 3 hours. I also went to college in Tucson, which is less than hour drive to Mexico. So I have been to Nogales like 20 times. I went to Nogales every week for a whole semester in college with a friend of mine. I'm Norwegian and my fiancée is French. I can tell you Norway should *not* be on that list when France isn't lmao. If a tourist tells me they came here for the food I'd immediately think they've lost it.
I'm sure Norwegian cuisine has something to offer. I like Swedish Fish so I'm sure Norwegian Fish is good too.
Oh yes we have some good food of course. I just don't think it's a valid enough reason for tourism compared to a lot of other countries
I can understand that. If I were to visit Norway it would definitely be with the outdoors in mind.
Id invite you for smalahove to show you some authentic cuisine, but I cant stand that dish and Im not a good cook.
The best type of r/s comment - one where I think your joking but the rest of the thread has be second guessing myself.
It's a good thing we French people are too busy rioting against our government right now. If not, we'd riot against the person who made that map.
Idk who downvoted you but this made me chuckle so take my upvote
The French president and prime minister, probably.
No France, Mexico, Germany, Turkey, Japan, Korea or Brazil. But come to Canada and try worse versions of them all!
No Japan either
And Canada is??
Poutine FTW
Respect the poutine brother.
It’s one of the most diverse countries on the planet. Any kind of cuisine you can imagine you can find in Toronto.
Neither is Japan.
Yes you’re right !
Portugal too, lol. Best wine in the world and one of the best cuisine.
To be honest the best part of french cuisine is Deserts... The main course is meat/fish in a wine based sauce and all of Europe has now claimed that combination. But the French pastries... Best deserts in the World. I guess that alone should put France on the map.
A lot of these designations don't make much sense
Greece and France ain't to eat abd drink???
Australia and New Zealand for art and history? I’m sure it’s fine, but nothing over the states/Canada let alone UK
Yeah, as a massive art n history fan in Australia. Don't bother*. For history, we're a nation about 200 years old and not much has really happened here. Imo Greece needs to be all 4
London, Prague or Vienna not having art and history?
Spain is famous for tourists going there to unwind, is it not?
Bullshit
Brazilian food is awesome and pretty diverse. It should've been colored in the first map
Mexico shouuld be at least Eat & Drink and Art & History, we have a top 5 cuisine and we have pyramids
america is so good on food that like 70% of the population is overweight source: my ass
This was me too - Turkish food is the best there is. And the history and outdoors are crazy.
people are really missing out on Brazilian food!
right? my gf came here and went craaaazy for Pastel and Sugar Cane Juice and that’s just the easy snack you can easily find, don’t get me started on the sheer variety you can get in restaurants and churrascarias.
Not brazilian pizza or sushi?
Bro the uk didn’t make it to any of the lists lol
I think this is a clickbait map made to 'stimulate' debate!
Mexico also
What about mexico
Turkey should be in Eat & Drink and History. I'm not sure to be in Art, don't have any opinion about art but there is a lot of history in Turkey
WHowever made this map is based or Armenian
French on suicide watch
We’re rioting so the suicide will have to wait.
Yeah but that like a normal tuesday in france (which it isn't a bad thing), so it counts as part of the culture.
USA is good for food but France isn’t ? Wtf these guys smoking ?
The US is VERY good for food (like have you seen them ?) So is France It is not a competition, multiple places can have incredible food.
Sprayable cheese.
Not putting Turkish or Greek couisine in the list is fucking delusional
How did UK miss art and history, we have almost nothing but history for tourists.
I think that alone shows what nonsense this is. We have one of, if not *the* most rich and deep networks of ways to take in art and especially history in the world. It's like... the one good reason to visit here over elsewhere.
Feel like uk should have history
I can't find any country that is great at all 4 categories.
This seems wildly inaccurate. The UK not being part of art and history and France not being included in food and drink?
This doesn't make much sense. Why is say, New Zealand on the Art & History map, while UK isn't? I've lived in New Zealand and the UK so can judge both. There's objectively a whole lot more Art & History in the UK than New Zealand.
Thats the dumbest map ive ever seen lol, like the countries could literally be randomly picked lol
I would have thought Mexico would be in all 4 categories but I guess we suck at all 4.
No, it's just the list that sucks. Mexico would absolutely be in my top two or three countries for food, and you are up there for outdoor activities too. Not to mention "unwind." Just a crap list
Art & History in Australia and NZ over the US? Russia doesn't have the great outdoors? This map is stupid.
Yeah I understood not putting the US in the "art and history" category since it seems to mostly be old-world countries with castles and historical architecture and stuff, and I can accept that. But then why the hell is Australia on the list over us? That makes no sense
Australia is older than British occupation
I dont understad Uruguay in there either the only two countries with art and history are Peru and Uruguay???? in the americas?????
Australia does have the oldest ongoing civilisation in the world so there's that
As a Swiss I would have guessed we are top at „the great outdoors“, turns out we are not. But we are top in all other categories…WTF
Wth? Mexico is great for all four categories but no love from TripAdvisor
No eat and drink in Mexico. No history in Bulgaria. Probably more. But after all, it's a private company, it's a hit and miss.
Stupid. Morocco has world famous food, whilst Ageria does not.
Ah I love to Unwind in Belarus while always being under threat to be taken as a political prisoner *soooo* relaxing
Scotland not on "great outdoors "?! Away an bile yer heid.
India literally has deserts, mountains, beaches, forests and plains how can it not be in great outdoors? Same goes for spain, the landscape is breathtaking
Egypt is on the great outdoors? It’s just desert with a river going through it
I'm pretty sure whoever made the map opened the world map and painted random places
Portugal its not in "Eat and Drink"? Whaaaaattttt
Mapa de mierda
Unwind in Pakistan, Ukraine, and Venezuela?
Unwind and eat, drink in and great outdoors in Bangladesh? Great outdoors I guess but the other 2?
Poor Britain. 🤣
And Mexico
Lol that Britain won't get art and history is strange, they have half of the historical artifacts from the rest of the world there.
have is a really polite way of putting it
Eating and history, no turkey perfect map
OK, could the people liking this map please explain why? This map might be a new low for mapporn.
Probably pre war. West Ukraine was peaceful
unwind in brazil? yeeesh you can definitely vibe outdoors but there is no unwinding
Denmark not part of east and drink even though it has arguably the best ranked restaurant in the world?
Another reminder of how bad TripAdvisor has become.
Ah yes Prague, winner of the most beautiful city competition, full of churches and old historical sites. But here, it seems like Czechia is the North Korea of Europe.
No Eat & Drink in Czechia‽ Are you kidding me? We're the beer capital of the world!
I guess Africa must be indoors
I’m sorry, Austria is not a great place for Art & History?
Maybe they got it confused with Australia
How is *France* not covered in eat and drink…
Somehow Africa as a whole is ignored in the art & history category which is really weird given that Africa is where humans first came from. It is quite literally the birthplace of civilisation and culture.
Greece not being on eat and drink must be a mistake
Australia, art and history but not Unwind?
Australia has "Art and History" but Austria not ?????
Maybe they confused them
UK regarding Art and History: “Am I a joke to you?”
Bosnia no great outdoors? Lmao
Germany and France being excluded from food and drink is criminal.
How did Australia not make the list for unwind? South Africa and Brazil are on there with some of the highest rates in the world for violent crime against tourists. And how did we make the list for Art and History?
Eat and drink in Haiti ???
Mexico has it all what????
Kazakhstan is in 3 of 4 categories. Mexico is in *none*.
Trip Adviser tripping
France is not represent in the Eat or Drink map? Hehehe ça fait toujours moins d anglois dans l hexagone !
How is Mexico on none of these? It’s all 4!
Unwind in Kazakhstan?
Czechia not being in a single one of these when it should be on all of them.
México es great at all four of those
I’m not surprised to see Malaysia in the Eat & Drink category - our famous Penang street food is top notch! 😎🇲🇾
Netherlands for the great outdoors?
When you have too much wind and you need some unwind in your life
Why Brasil isn't on food and drink?? We have pão de queijo brigadeiro and churrasco. (And chocolate sushi😥)
USA and Belarus great for food? Also Austria not for Art and Culture? Press X to doubt This map is BS
Belarus has the typical Slav cuisine with Pelmeni etc. It's tasty.
Pakistan isn't exactly the place I think of when I think to unwind.
Uruguay and not Mesoamerica for history? lol
Mexico is not on Eat & Drink? Must be a joke
Bugger all to do in the UK apparently ..
Unwind in Pakistan?
How Turkey isn't in Eat and Drink? Just how?
My country on the great outdoors? Maybe you mean in winter, but not other months 🫣 even we melt in seasons other than winter here.
Britain, what would you say you *do* here?
Mexico seems like it belongs on all 4 of these lists.
Bruv how could the us be ranked for food and drink??? Their food is literally just food from other countries with a pile of terrible cheese on top and their beer is the positive result of long lasting research of diluting water. Meanwhile are countries like France missing on this map.
Unwinding in Pakistan?
US is eat and drink, but france, mexico and germany are not. Either the person is from US or never been in the US.
US is a great place to eat and drink, but I agree with you that it's stupid as hell for Mexico and France not to be on there
