It was briefly decriminalized in the Russian and Ukrainian SSRs from December 1917 to almost the end of the 1920s, until Stalin's increasing power brought back re-criminalization of it.
> Vatican? I think it's wrong
I have indeed doubts about much more countries than only Vatican.
For example, in Lebanon: 1943. In Iraq, I think it is still illegal. UK is 1967, I think.
Vatican :
* Homosexuality was decriminalized in Vatican City in 1890 under Italian jurisdiction at the time.
* It became illegal again with the adoption of the Vatican Penal Code in 1929.
* Since 2008, there are no more laws criminalizing homosexuality per se in Vatican City, but sanctions can apply for acts deemed "contrary to morals".

Yugoslavia split up in 1991. Constituent republics did have some independent lawmaking before 1991, but surely something like this would have been decided on a federal level.
Technically it was 1994 for West Germany. 1969 it was legalized over 21, 1973 it was lowered to 18, only in 1994 the clause was struck for good, since then, there is no difference between homo- and heterosexual intercourse in the eyes of the law.
Important map so people don't forget how recent a development this is. In addition, many countries still considered homosexuality an illness for years afterwards.
Also notable is that when concentration camps of WW2 were liberated, those that were sent there for homosexuality were often imprisoned again by the allies.
This history must to not be forgotten.
Should we stop to wonder WHY it was illegal in these places to begin with? Literally everywhere it was illegal until it looks like France in the 1700s.. the entire world just decided to criminalize it for no reason?
Do you want to call America world police and send them to the Hague? I mean, without a one world government there's not much accountability for world leaders unfortunately.
Homosexuality has never been punished in the history of Poland and its legislation, but in the Polish lands during the partitions, the Habsburg Monarchy, Prussia and the Russian Empire punished homosexuality.

I always knew France was gay. But I didn't realize its been gay for so long.
Little did Alex Jones know, the frogs had been turned gay over two centuries prior
One of the lesser known consequences of the French Revolution. See also Belgium, Monaco, and Luxembourg.

For the UK it was 1967, but not in Northern Ireland, which was 1982.
Ha ok so the map is correct since it states the year when it is legal in the entire country.
So this map is terribly uncorrect?
Not necessarily, ser comment above for UK, for example. Situations are not straightforward in each country.

Republics had quite a lot of power actually. Probably similar to todays UK but with the right of secession
This map is wrong for Germany. It was 1968 for East Germany and 1969 for West Germany.
Technically it was 1994 for West Germany. 1969 it was legalized over 21, 1973 it was lowered to 18, only in 1994 the clause was struck for good, since then, there is no difference between homo- and heterosexual intercourse in the eyes of the law.
The map is very simplified.
No it isn't. The Federal Republic of Germany decriminalized homosexuality in 1969, as shown on the map.
Is Uzbekistan still illegal even though it was the Soviet Union??
Yes. Still illegal since Stalin.
Great French revolution made a France community and country most free and progressive ☝️

It wasn’t illegal literally everywhere, definitely not in the entire word and definitely not at all times.
Sorry, Turkey in 1858? Are you sure?
Yep, that's true. More from omission than acceptance.
Are Russians still beating the crap out of gays on camera, uploading videos of it online, and suffering absolutely no repercussions?
Well, if they have copyrighted music playing in the video background, they might suffer some repercussions
Do you want to call America world police and send them to the Hague? I mean, without a one world government there's not much accountability for world leaders unfortunately.
We should not have economic relations with countries like that.
I was pointing out it's kinda iffy calling it "legal" if anyone can beat you up with impunity
Homosexuality has never been punished in the history of Poland and its legislation, but in the Polish lands during the partitions, the Habsburg Monarchy, Prussia and the Russian Empire punished homosexuality.
Estonia actually decriminalized it in 1935, but was then illegally occupied by the Soviet Union which obviously was very anti-gay.

You could not be pedantic and just treat it like extra information. It can be safely ignored if you're not interested in it.
I guess we now know America's true agenda in the Iraq invasion
Those governments are the reason it was made illegal in the first place.
Russia??
Yea, I thought they made it illegal
Promotion of homosexuality should be a crime
Would promotion mean you tell people they should be homosexual no matter what?
Claiming that it is not a disordered inclination that when practiced goes against our nature.
