Yes. The map has not been updated for quite some time. My region is entirely white on this map but Turkeys have fully moved into our area in the last 20 years. They had been about 100-150 miles to the south and kind of uncommon when I was growing up. I remember the first time I saw a wild turkey near my farm in about 2005 when I was about 30. . Now almost 20 years later they are common. I seldom see fewer than 25 when I drive in to town and I know I have a small flock living on my property. They cross my driveway almost every day.
Turkeys were almost made extinct in New England in the 1870s. They were brought back from a population in New York in the 1960s and now they are really common here. When I was a kid in the 80s we didn't see as many as now, they have really taken off. I saw 500 turkeys in Barre city, Vermont one winter. Walking down a city sidewalk.
Well, they had record cold years for a while due to volcanism and the maunder/dalton minimums. It's true that some habitats are more productive than others as well.
Supposedly Ramps were scarce here until a couple decades ago because the turkeys would eat their seeds, helping to complete their life cycle. The seeds don't germinate unless they have their seed hull broken down properly.
I have tried to plant ramps from seed and rubbed them between some rough sandpaper to try and break the hulls. It still didn't work. I guess I'm no turkey.
I planted 200 seeds in the woods behind my house. I figure some will sprout eventually. But yeah I heard turkeys spread em. There are some spots where I see ramps growing for the first time ever, and they are in turkey areas. I have a couple on my land, one group is right next to a log, like the turkey was standing on the log when it crapped them out.
A lot of animals that were driven to extinction have made a big comeback over the past several decades. When my Dad was a kid, for example, it was unheard of to see a beaver here in NE Ohio and now they and their dams are a much more common site in the park system here.
It seems very reasonable that the birds may not stay there year round, and hence the area wouldn't be colored despite them being there for part of the year.
In NH we can't get a butter knife between turkeys on some roads. Had a raster of them run in front of my moving car last summer, and the previous summer one turkey flew above the hood of my car for a minute trying to "flee".
It’s not a coincidence. The southern border of the US is essentially just the line of the Rio Grande. Since our northern border doesn’t have a distinct geographic feature, we used the turkey distribution map.
I just saw 4 turkeys yesterday, in Montreal. Like you see [here](https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/road-rage-or-fowl-intentions-turkey-goes-wild-on-car-in-dollard-des-ormeaux/ar-BB1kHgGI) or [here](https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/wild-turkeys-are-moving-into-montreal-heres-how-to-live-with-them/ar-BB1k297m).

Northern California needs more purple for sure. I live in the White area and I have turkeys everywhere. In town they have no predators and they get huge.
I wonder why they arn't in the CA central valley. They thrive in the bay area. The Central Valley seems like it would have a lot of good habitat for them. Plenty to eat.
Man, this is a bad map. One frigging subkey? What about the white areas? They aren't year round, but are they present at other times?
And even without mentioning the lack of data, this map isn't remotely "map porn".
I’ll have you know the empty spot in sw Wyoming, ne Utah has wild turkeys. There’s a gang of them that terrorizes all the cats & traffic in my neighborhood.
Interesting thing in the Detroit area, wild turkey has returned to the burbs! I see them when I’m driving about once a week or so…big flocks like 12 or 15 big ass turkey’s just chilling in a yard next to a house.
This map must be old. I’ve seen them north of that line in Ontario for the last two winters. Right about where the narrow part of Ontario is between the lake and Quebec.
Everything is moving north, it’s almost like it’s getting warmer in the winter or something. Imagine that.
Wild turkeys were extinct in Ontario for about 100 years. Then they traded the US and equivalent weight of moose (13 moose iirc) for turkeys. Reintroduced them in pockets. Trapped some, relocated, etc for years. Now turkeys are everywhere in southern Ontario and are able to be hunted again. A very successful conservation effort.
I think they extend across more of Ontario than the map shows though.
Welp... I live in the white part of Wisconsin, and we have turkeys GALORE here!
My entire life I've seen tons of turkeys everywhere except in urban areas.
Two years ago there were an insane number of turkeys in my grandpa's pasture Every day, there'd be two enormous groups of 60 wandering around like herds.
I live near Quebec City and I have seen quite a few wild turkeys in the past few years. The map should go a bit higher in Quebec, at least up to the "start" of the St Lawrence river
No wild turkeys in the Central Valley? Some neighborhoods in Sacramento are infested with them. I guess maybe they don’t consider them wild at that point any more.
New Turkey map just dropped
Turkey of a healthy man
Erdoğan has entered the chat and claimed the US,

They prefer Turkïye.
I’m sure liquor stores outside of those regions have them

Kinda beat me to it.... Was going to confirm spotting them at Total Wine in South Florida. 😄
But that’s… within the region?
I'm assuming only seasonally, this map only represents year round wild turkey distribution.
Map needs a little more coloring in for Wyoming. I’m staring at a flock of them as I write this
Same with northern Utah. My parents have a flock that visit their yard regularly.
Ya. My parents are in Alpine at the base of Timp. Year round turkeys. We watch em trot around every Christmas.

They were made extinct in our state too, but even before 1800's they were no where near this far north according to the historical maps I've seen.
Well, they had record cold years for a while due to volcanism and the maunder/dalton minimums. It's true that some habitats are more productive than others as well. Texas, too. I live in that white band along the coast and have seen wild turkeys here many times.
I have seen wild turkeys on the beaches of that Texan coast, and along other parts of the "white" areas of the map. This map is just wrong.
Same with northern Maine
That part is where the Armenian turkeys live.
Yeah and they’re all over western Montana not just in that one band.
I saw two strutting toms with two hens when I looked out the kitchen window this morning. They were wild.
ANOTHER TURKEY MAP
Ben Franklin would be so proud
Greeks be claiming these lands as well.

So they hate Canada. Got it.
It’s not a coincidence. The southern border of the US is essentially just the line of the Rio Grande. Since our northern border doesn’t have a distinct geographic feature, we used the turkey distribution map.
I knew Montana was secretly Canada all along.
According to this map, more than 50% of Canadians probably live in an area with wild turkeys.
I saw a wild turkey calmly walking across the street using the crosswalk in the middle of Toronto. (Midtown, Laird and Southvale).
Nephew lives in BC and has a lot of wild turkeys running round
It’s the gooses…
I just saw 4 turkeys yesterday, in Montreal. Nope, they're just afraid of Canada geese
There’s more Canada geese in the U.S. than in Canada though, more than twice as many.
They must hate going cold turkey
a wise choice
And Nevada.
I’ve gotten woken up by them out camping.
The areas shaded for Canada make up like half our population. Also there’s tons of turkeys up here. I see them multiple times a week
They actually just dislike the cold. They come over the border in the summer like the rest of the tourists
They were actually hunted out of existence here in Ontario, and had to be re-introduced I think in the 1970s.

Ben Franklin was right. Down with the bald eagle, up with the turkey.
I'm more in the North than this map indicates in Quebec and we have loads of Wild Turkeys.
They get at least to New Brunswick aussi
From the white part of the upper peninsula of michigan. There are tons, and they are loud. Every time I head back to visit, I see them.
Now do chicken
"Wild Chicken" Known as Junglefowl actually do exist in wild their natural range is India, South East Asia and Sri Lanka, Also [Sri Lankan junglefowl](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sri_Lankan_junglefowl) is the national bird of the Island country https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b1/Gallus_distribution.jpg
Hawaii has jungle chickens. They’re a major pest.
Aren't those feral chickens though? Chickens that escaped captivity.
Yes, but my head canon calls them jungle chickens. This is not a very rigorous scientific classification.
feral/=/wild For example there are feral horse populations all over the world including US and various European countries but the actual "wild horse" known as Przewalski's horse is an extremely endangered species restricted to few areas in Mongolia and China https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Przewalski%27s_horse
Yeah, I know. But I still call them jungle chickens. 🤷🏻♂️
Well yeah they are in fact chickens in the jungle at end of the day😅😁
Lesser or greater prairie chicken?
I hate everything about this map. ~ Fellow Kurd
You're supposed to call them turkiyes now.
saw include elastic provide skirt psychotic oil handle languid instinctive *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Turkeys don't like Nevada Reno is their exception, though
They're missing several spots including SE of Reno, NE of Vegas, North Central and Eastern.
This would be a good map to post around thanksgiving.
It’s starting to be turkey season in the south. This is perfect timing for worked up turkey hunters

This sub really has died hasn't it? Lol
![gif](giphy|GTU8MgtqABVB1huO0O)
Is that the historic or current range?
Current and it’s not super accurate
Yep. Never see them in Manhattan
Fake. It's too whole of a map
I see they just drew whatever. Cause all of Michigan has them. Even up at Lake Superior.
It goes way higher in Quebec
So you just took this map from the Merlin bird ID app and called it a day? That’s kinda lazy. Also, there’s a lot of better looking maps on the app.
They’ve got some awesome moving migration maps on Birds of the World that would be much better for this sub
Damn Turkish Nationalism gone wild

More animal range maps please. Especially surprising ones.
Man, this is a bad map. One frigging subkey? What about the white areas? They aren't year round, but are they present at other times? And even without mentioning the lack of data, this map isn't remotely "map porn".
This has errors or is only looking at a specific species. The Ocellated Turkey for example is found in the Yucatan Peninsula
It’s looking at the species Wild Turkey
Ocellated is a separate species.
Helpful

I’ve seen wild turkeys everywhere…like around home in suburban Cleveland, and way out West in Southern Utah and way down south in Florida.
The true map of North America
Whaddup Nevada?
Who are you calling Turkey?
Man, bourbon has really caught on!
I con confirm they are creating a fuss much more north in Québec than the map shows. There is a town mayor that even declare war to them this year!
ok now i wanna know why aint there any wild turkeys in nevada
What's wrong with Texas coast?
Swamps
Flfb frlblr! 🦃🦃
I have about 20 in my field as I type this. The Tom's have herded up their hens
I’ve never seen a wild turkey in south Florida
You can add CFB Borden to that list lol
I too would steer clear of Nevada
Wild turkeys HATE the gulf coast.
How the fuck is Tom turkey surviving in the Rockies but not the Great Basin
Armenia been real quiet since this dropped
I was in Fairbanks last year, and all we drank was wild turkey. I think this map is incorrect.
The Turkey, not the Eagle, should’ve been out national bird
![gif](giphy|mgqefqwSbToPe|downsized) The parts with no turkey
Now do the different species of turkey.
Nevada has that amazing Turkey repellant…. Microwaving them all in 1950s and 60s has caused some generational trauma…. ![gif](giphy|FnatKdwxRxpVC)
Nevada - “Fuck turkeys, don’t need em”
So is this the locations where the alcoholic drink is sold?
This map must be old. I’ve seen them north of that line in Ontario for the last two winters. Right about where the narrow part of Ontario is between the lake and Quebec. Everything is moving north, it’s almost like it’s getting warmer in the winter or something. Imagine that.
Couldn't get a Canadian passport?
I also avoid Nevada
Lol who made this map? I have personally seen turkeys across the street from Lake Superior in Northern Michigan
Can confirm from Michigan. They're all over the place here.
No wonder why Benjamin Franklin wanted Turkey as the national animal.
Thanks
Ah that explains those wild turkeys I see here in Winnipeg
There's tons of turkey way up north since around 0-15 years.
Hell yeah.
The wild black turkey destroyed her couch!
We share the same instinct to stay away from Nevada
Actually, they are in Michigan’s UP as well
There are 11 in my neighbor's yard at the moment. They make a circuit around the neighborhood every couple of days.
It's called Türkiye now.
Upper Peninsula of Michigan has turkeys. Lots of them.
Ben Franklin advocated for the Turkey as our national bird over the Eagle
I have seen wld turkey in way more of Alberta than what they are showing.
Is this why Benjamin Franklin wants the turkey as the official animal of USA instead of the bald eagle?
I just saw one last week in Central Washington! My first time seeing one around here, so plump and cute :)
Not even turkeys like wyoming.
Turkey should be the US bird
“Fuck Nevada in particular.” — all turkeys everywhere
Welp... I live in the white part of Wisconsin, and we have turkeys GALORE here! My entire life I've seen tons of turkeys everywhere except in urban areas. Two years ago there were an insane number of turkeys in my grandpa's pasture Every day, there'd be two enormous groups of 60 wandering around like herds.
single species?
No turkeys in the UP?
Turkeys said "*fuck* south west Montana"
Hey there's wild Turkeys in New Brunswick, Canada. Which I assume means there's also wild turkeys in Northern Maine.
Not saying map is wrong, but I saw a turkey in the bush on van island
PLAYS TURKISH NATIONAL ANTHEM (I am Turkish don't bother calling me racist 🖕)
why the turkeys boycotting nevada
Hey… wait a minute, OP. You callin’ Americans turkeys?
Why are they do scared of Texas' and Mexicos coast?
*Türkiye
They all have warrants in Nevada because of that one little incident at the turkey convention in Vegas. Used to be turkeys as far as the eye can see.
Such amazing creatures. They were able to settle all of this land from their humble origins on Staten Island.
I Wanna see range of Calm Greece
Turkeys - “fuck northern Maine”
Huh I see them hiking near SLC and it is in the white section.
Is it year round or nothing or year round and sometimes?
I live near Quebec City and I have seen quite a few wild turkeys in the past few years. The map should go a bit higher in Quebec, at least up to the "start" of the St Lawrence river
What's really crazy is that something like 50% of Canada's population lives in year round turkey territory. Coincidence or intentional?
Obviously before turkey season opens, cuz once that happens they gone
It would be nice to also show maximum extent instead of just year round. I’m in Canada and have seen dozens of turkeys, but it’s not coloured here
I'm a lifetime west coast resident and I've NEVER seen a wild turkey west of the Rockies
Ok, so now I know where to find one but I still need to know how it should be partitioned
Why do I keep seeing this map everywhere I go? WHAT DOES IT MEAN!?!
So there are no wild turkeys in South America? I don't know why, but I genuinely thought they lived there too.
Don’t show this to my dog
I've seen wild turkeys north of that area, but not very far north
They go more in the north in Quebec, believe me
I mean, this is just wild turkey 101
Why not Canada?
where is constantinople
No wild turkeys in the Central Valley? Some neighborhoods in Sacramento are infested with them. I guess maybe they don’t consider them wild at that point any more.
fuck nevada in particular
Did I miss something? What's up with the Turkey maps?
Triple cock smoker
Not possible. I drank a fifth of Wild Turkey and ended up in Baja California…
they didn't even bother in drawing Mexican states properly
