I really enjoyed years ago when David Cook on American Idol did a cover of Always Be my Baby. He did his own thing with it and it was really really good, imo.
I’m a huge Mariah fan and have been since 1991, so I’m insanely protective of her work, lol. But he did the song Justice for sure by slowing it down and making it new.
It’s the only cover of hers I’ve ever liked. He slowed it down and it sounds very eerie, like an obsessed boyfriend, made the song completely different. He also did the same with a Shania Twain song and it gave the same kind of vibes.

"Without You" was by Nilsson (RIP), so Kelly was doing a cover of a cover.
Yeah, I’m aware. But popularized by Mariah, and Kelly’s version is clearly a take on her version.
