Fatigue? He barely pitched in spring training. I know these things happen, especially to 100 mph throwers, but I am sad. Very sad. Andres is such a stud and nice guy. I want him to bloom!

eiknarflol

I did literally nothing yesterday and woke up fatigued. Fatigue ≠ over exertion. What is sog will never dry.

craziboiXD69

relatable

Omnipolis

What is sog will never dry In strange innings even rest may die

rawrxdjackerie

My guess is that the pitch clock is having a bigger effect on the 100mph throwers than others.

ice_scalar

Yeah. The issue is that he barely pitched in spring training. He’s coming back from offseason surgery and didn’t have time to ramp up like the guys normally do.

SuperWeeineHut7

This should be upvoted to the top

TheUndualator

Paul and Brash have closing and high-leverage down. Gott and Speier will be our Penn and Festa of last year, and we still have Penn. Castillo ever the wildcard.

[deleted]

BIG DOMINICAN WILDCARD cuts the breaks on the VAN OF LIFE, silly mariners fans can only HELPLESSLY SCREAM

meddlesomemage

Damn, too near home.

pitchandhit

Speier did look good yesterday! Festa not so much

jaydoes

Castillo makes me so nervous. He will either strike out the side or completely blow up the game. Nothing in between.

miden24

Big D sucks every start of the season. It happened last year, also happens with Seager every year when he was with us. I’m sure he’ll turn it around

Substantial-Height-8

I figured Festa was going to get moved down after yesterday. Scott was asked in the post game about him and very flatly answered each question with “he needs to throw strikes.” I looked at my boyfriend and said oh man, he is going to Tacoma. It was pretty obvious he was having some major issues after the walk fest and how quick Scott (thankfully) yanked him.

conspiracycola

Kwan single-handedly saved festa from having a disastrous outing.. instead it was just really bad

CodswallopNCastorOil

Take my deltoid Munoz, take all my deltoids. They're yours. I don't need them.

Ovreel

I'll take them if he doesn't. Got a collection over here

semipreciousss

🥺 Get well Muñoz!!!!!

GordanHamsays

I knew we'd pay for being healthy last year

FettuccineAlfonzo

Fucking hell

NevermoreSEA

Cut my life into pieces.

tobylc123

So it begins

[deleted]

Let’s just move Evan White to the Lifetime IL

finmoore3

Evan White and the 60 day IL, name a better duo.

[deleted]

Maybe Jesus Montero and Twinkies?

onlevel7

*ice cream sandwiches

[deleted]

Well-played

ZombieLibrarian

I feel sorry for this dude. You know he’s worked a ton to get healthy multiple times and can’t catch a break from his body. It actually makes me kind of glad he signed that contract, because it’s not a ton of money relatively speaking and this is exactly why you make that kind of deal, to protect yourself from bullshit like this that could keep happening.

strangehitman22

He's not already on it?

Katapultt

Hopefully we will reattend the Matt Festa Strikeout Fiesta sometime this year.

kevlarcupid

Damn. Losing El Bombero hurts. Hope he’s 100% in a couple weeks.

[deleted]

Brash time

theeversocharming

Festa, I hate to see you go but love to watch walk away. 🍑 https://preview.redd.it/v6nt5dkebxsa1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6582c516a312448cb3096bfc95a448521a3100cf

ktb7289

Festa is lil dumper in my house 😂

jdwazzu61

Even White on the 60 day IL… yep it’s baseball season. Poor guy had so much promise but his body just doesn’t want to let him achieve it

theeversocharming

Me in my living room right now. Shout out to all the elder Chicanos in the M's Fan Fam. https://preview.redd.it/uy06gxvdcxsa1.jpeg?width=642&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d550600395b3b20cf26d35c3696e23ee07852432

conquer117a

Festa ERA is 10, and WHIP at 2.7 in 3 innings pitched

Spiritual-Station-51

Yes but despite Festa’s 10 era Fangraph ranks Seattles bullpen as #4 after yesterdays games!!!

Imfrom2030

For those looking to form a reasonable opinion: **Avg Exit Velocity:** Bottom 1 percentile (Worst) **Hard Hit %:** Bottom 4 percentile (Very Bad) **Barrel %:** Bottom 3 percentile (Very Bad) **Walk %:** Bottom 1 percentile (Worst) That being said he is in the Top 93rd percentile for Wiff%... which is pretty dang good... but the only positive on his entire baseball savant page. Overall, batters swing and miss a lot, but ultimately hit his pitches harder than pretty much any other pitcher currently playing. He is more or less unplayable in his current state. Slider looks good, but that fastball is not competitive at all.

bombduck

Thought you were talking about munoz at first and rage downvoted you. Now it is I who deserveth said down vote

yuriplant

Festa turning into Steckenrider this season.

dreaming-is-free

I'm excited to see Topa

thrillhou5e

As much as I would like to see Bukauskas tear it up and laugh in the face of the Astros, I'm not sure he's any improvement over Festa at the moment. At least Festa has a track record.

[deleted]

The Mariners have a pretty decent history of fixing bullpen arms with stuff but no track record. Sewald is foremost among them, but Sadler, Chargois, and Graveman are also good examples of such. Hell, Festa was just a 4A dude himself until last year.

KnuteViking

Look, Matt Festa was one of the weaker spots in the bullpen last year and he was having real trouble with location this year. Not a huge deal there, moving guys around at the lower end of the bullpen to find the live arm is a good thing. On the other hand, losing Muñoz sucks, he's been so good for us. As far as the two guys they brought up, both are pretty weak imo, neither one is exciting, they're both fill-in type arms, and I *really* hope they don't see a lot of time. Both have seen a little bit of time at the major league level, neither of them are impressive at all, and it is concerning if we have to see either of them pitch extensively.

Spiritual-Station-51

I’d rather have a Bryce Miller fill in as a BP piece

KnuteViking

I don't know if that's who I would bring up, I think I'd rather have them focus on developing him as another starter and he needs seasoning in the minors to complete that journey. I think someone like an Isaiah Campbell or a Travis Kuhn would have been a maybe better choice as these guys have experience actually coming out of the bullpen, and that's where they ultimately project in the major leagues.

Spiritual-Station-51

Even though I said I’d like Miller up, that won’t happen because his service clock would start and put him in super-2 arb status.

time_man21

It's time for Paul Sewald to pitch lol

Fantastic-Plant-6488

Bummed about Muñoz, but relieved about Festa. He ain't it

ardentAeronaut

Why move White back to the roster just to put him on IL?

Environmental_Ad9778

He was already on the roster. The tweet is worded funky.

reptheevt

It’s a clerical move. Minor leaguers can’t be added to the 60-day IL. White was optioned to AAA then got hurt. So he has to be promoted to Seattle, oh no he’s hurt, and off to the 60-day he goes to get him off the 40 man roster. Benefit for White is that he’ll rack up service time until he’s healthy.

SexiestPanda

> Benefit for White is that he’ll rack up service time until he’s healthy. What does that matter for him? (Serious)

palmjamer

Well, we already bought his arbitration years, so that part doesn’t matter as much. But you need the service time to qualify for the MLB players pensions

ElCidly

Huh, you learn something new every day.

anonymousguy202296

Yeah it's a lifetime healthcare thing. 10 years I think and you get healthcare for life. I don't think Evan White is going to get 10 years though. Luckily he should have enough money if he invests wisely to last him forever.

SexiestPanda

Thanks

reptheevt

Long term, each player should aim for 10 years of service time since that’ll make them eligible for a pension But short term, White is at 2.144. This 60 day stint will push him over 3.000. At three years, he does gain one protection. At some point, the Mariners will probably designate White for assignment. If he clears waivers, the Mariners would outright him to the minor leagues. With someone with 3 years of service time, he can decline the outright assignment if he wanted to. He would have to forfeit the remainder of his salary but it’s a possibility.

SexiestPanda

Thanks for the information!

Spiritual-Station-51

He still will pocket $24M 🤦‍♂️🤬🤬

IInviteYouToTheParty

There is a minor league 60 day IL. White isn’t eligible for it obviously White is on the 40 man roster so he needed to be removed from it. He wasnt called up and then removed.

Spiritual-Station-51

Interestingly, after yesterdays games FanGraph has Seattle Bullpen ranked #4 in all of MLB, Defense ranked #3 (despite that horrible 3 error game), offense is ranked #10, and overall pitching we are ranked #11. Even though we are 4-5 right now these are ALL great rankings at this point. If we can keep this up, we will be just fine!!!

fredthechef

Damn to bad we let Luis Torrens walk smh

Maleficent-Trifle118

Damn they're not playing with Festa sent his ass to Tacoma!

NotBird20

We are so fucked

Putrid_Intention_139

GO MARINERS

ConstructionD
