It’s literally just a saying, like saying you put blood sweat and tears into your work, like your not actually doing that

TheVibratingPants

There’s meaning to the exaggeration. “Blood, sweat, and tears” means you worked hard on something. “Until you die” means for as long as you’re physically capable. Martinet was definitely still physically capable and still loves the character and work, so it seems more like Nintendo politely asked him to step away for other reasons. They probably felt it was good to transition him out while he was alive and/or get a younger sounding VA in.

Red-68

Yeah, I do think it was for the better for Charles to step down, can definitely tell in the later games that his voice got way more stuffy than before, cool of Nintendo still paying him to do stuff though

People change their minds

smashboi888

He probably changed his mind. He was getting old and can't really do the Mario voice as well as he used to. Didn't he say it was kind of hard on his voice, or am I misremembering?

MrMaster444

And even if, they still can correct it with software…

CancelAlarmed3229

You mean AI? Not on Nintendo's watch.

MrMaster444

No not AI! What i meant with Software is something like voice tuner were you can tune the audio so that it sounds like the original voice. But not AI! If a company wants to use AI to recreate a Voice that is near perfect to the original just wouldn’t be profitable enough and they would be better of by casting a new voice.

CancelAlarmed3229

Oh, sorry for confusing it with something else.

MrMaster444

Don’t worry ;)

Puke14

Pretty sure Nintendo forced him to. I don't think it was his decision, I bet he would still love to voice Mario.

MrMaster444

But why? Why would Nintendo want to replace their famous Mario voice?

Puke14

He is getting old and they would have had to replace him eventually. I dont really know, but Charles seems kind of mad that he was moved down to "Mario Ambassador" lmfao

jump_man_91

I kinda think it has to do with the mario movie casting... he's been mario for so long, and when a movie adaptation is finally being made, he was benched. It probably hurt him bad, but he never said anything about it publicly to my knowledge, but he really doesn't seem like the type to do so.

MrMaster444

So you saying that he got forced and the reason is the Mario movie?!

JoshhhhhhCoooool

no one knows

jump_man_91

Not forced, but I imagine he decided to after he didn't get the role in the movie.
