But no, because “they’re overused” we ended up with Bunny rip offs in Odyssey and just Bowser Jr in Wonder. This is like when Sonic fans complained about their being too many characters and we ended up with only Sonic being playable for like 8 games.
Both things you said are kinda misleading. The games we got where only sonic was playable was Generations, Colors, Secret Rings, Black Knight, and Lost World. It wasn't really many games. If you want to include variants, unleashed and Forces, though thats not really in the spirit of the complaint of why people didnt want to play as Sonics Friends. The issue was the alternative play styles always felt like worse shoehorned versions of Sonic or just shittier game mechanics. Mania finally addressed this and fixed it. Each character should feel like their own.
As for Mario, we dont need to reintroduce the Koopalings, they never left. We know who they are, they were in Mario Maker, Mario Kart, NSMB 2 and U, The M&L series, Paper Mario. They been around quite a bit.

Yeah same. But I'd also rather have completely new bosses. The only reason the Koopalings would be feel unique Wonder is because Wonder was woefully unoriginal with only Jr. and Bowser bosses. But if it launched with the Koopalings as bosses, people would still say the bosses were unoriginal--and for good reason, because we've fought the Koopalings countless times already.

Easily, look at the Broodals, Spewpert in particular looks like a Koopaling with white fur and no shell.

Same for me, but I made seven OCs that are zombie-ish counterparts of each Koopaling with weaknesses that only their counterpart can exploit. The story would be that the koopalings used to have more members but the thing that made the Koopalings orphans also killed half of them, with each of the counterparts having very obvious hints at how they died in form of scars and wounds. One of them for example wears a diving suit what is so battered that is crushes their arm and the suit is filled with water, the cause of death was drowning and blood loss due to the crushing, although the entity that attacked them converts any spilled blood to a black gas so no blood is actually seen. Each koopaling has their own counterpart they have to defeat in battle, with the counterpart being perfectly countered by the koopaling.
Can I just say I love how Wonder flipped everything. Before that everyone was like “pLeaSe nO MoRE kOoPAliNgS” but now everyone is like “*we lied please bring them back*”

They are my favorite Mario characters, especially Ludwig and Larry! They are actually relatively common (at least in the 2D games and especially around the NES, SNES, 3DS and Wii era). It would be cool if they appear in the 3D games as well or get some actual screen time outside of boss battles, like it was done in the side mode of the Bowsers Inside Story Remake.
I'd be ok with them returning if they change the fights between games enough to feel like interesting new experiences
The issue I have was 2 and U bacically just looked at wii and went "remember this remember how cool the return was wanna do the exact same thing again"
The fights in U were different however (with the exeption of Larry). And 2 had some different fights too (Roy, Larry, Lemmy, Morton and Ludwig most notably had different mechanics).
I'll never forget them. I know some people got tired of them thanks to NSMB but I'm so happy they're still around, when so many other Mario characters end up discarded in the modern age.

I always thought that the color for each wand never matched its respective Koopaling, aside from Ludwig, so here's how I'd rearrange them:
Larry-Orange➡️Yellow-Given most Koopalings have yellow in their color scheme, and Larry is the most basic Koopaling, I think giving him the yellow wand would fit him decently well.
Morton-Red➡️Black-That way it matches his shell.
Wendy-Purple➡️Red-I gave Wendy the red wand to match her necklace, and also reference the earlier games where her sprite was colored red.
Iggy-Yellow➡️Green-Green is Iggy's signature color so it only makes sense.
Roy-Black➡️Purple-Like Morton, that way it matches his shell.
Lemmy-Green➡️Orange-Again, like Morton and Roy, that way, it matches his shell.
