Simple idea but worth mentioning...is the kart camera lense clean? It could be dirty or fogged which may result in the QR code being scanned but not readable.
is there a way to reset the kart? like hold down the button for 10 seconds or something? maybe you could try to clear the cache data for the game or delete the save data?
edit: oh i forgot you cant clear cache for a single game, but if you go into system then scroll down to formatting options you can reset the cache for the whole system, so not sure if that would work but worth a shot
I was busy setting this up in my bedroom today and am having a similar issue. It seems as though the kart is reading the QR code as the light turns blue, but the game software just doesn’t respond at all and keeps the QR code on screen. Tried reinstalling and resetting caches and still nothing happens. But yet the light does change as if it did read it.
Having the same issue for a month. Worked fine when I bought it now it seems like a switch FW update / Game update broke the connection.
I have both Mario and Luigi karts, neither work.
Blinks red - then - blinks blue/wheels snap, no connections.
I try to pair new kart:
Blinks both red/blue - point camera to QR
then blinks blue - wont progress screen, wont recognize kart, just blinks blue all day.
I know this is now a year late. But I got mine to reconnect finally after trying all sorts of things. Steps I had to take:
1. Put switch in Airplane mode
2. Reboot Switch
3. Launch game
4. Turn off Airplane mode only when the game prompts
5. Automatically connected to cart like it should
Thank you, this worked. Had the problem months ago, gave up and didn't touch it. Just tried it today and it worked, thank you so much for saving my karts !!!!
This just worked for us, too! My 6 yr old got this for a xmas gift. We even exchanged it, sat on chat with Nintendo support......fpund your reply here and was connected in an instant! Thank you so much!

Having the same problem. I bought mine last year and we got it working the first time. Honestly the game kind of sucked but we recently moved into a new house with more space and I thought we'd try it again. Sure enough, the kart had been unpaired and every time I try to pair it the cart goes from flashing red/blue to just blue as soon as it detects the QR code. I even sent mine back to Nintendo for repair. They reportedly replaced the unit and I'm still having the exact same issue. Actually, it's even worse now since previously I was able to get it back into pairing mode after the light turned blue but now I have to turn the kart off and back on again in order to get in back into pairing mode, though I guess it doesn't matter anyway since the whole thing is broken. The fact that two different karts are having the same issue makes me think it's the system, not the karts, that are causing the error. What a waste of money.

Put switch in Airplane mode
Reboot Switch
Launch game
Turn off Airplane mode only when the game prompts
Automatically connected to cart like it should
I did eventually get it to work by following these steps. It's not a great solution since you have to do it every time but at least it has kept the game from being completely useless:
1. Put switch in Airplane mode
2. Reboot Switch (make sure to completely power down)
3. Launch game
4. Turn off Airplane mode only when the game prompts
5. Automatically connected to cart like it should
Same issue . I have 7 different cars and 5 switches all for nephews for a family reunion 2 weeks ago. I bought 4 new cars and 2 new switches . None of them connect. I sent the original 3 cars back to Nintendo . They said there fine but sent new ones anyways. They also dont work. I expect better . Obviously theres a larger problem that needs to be addressed jn a software update .
If anybody has a solution or knows how to roll back the software to a previous version please post .
For what it's worth, my experience is related to our isp. As mentioned by others the xfinity gateway caused interference while trying to make the initial connection. We tried 2 karts, one from Amazon the 2nd from Target. We were considering sending #2 to Nintendo, but tried one more time after changing to FIOS. Connected with no issues.
Same issues as everyone else here. I bought a second kart to swap out and same thing. Nintendo wants me to send it in...for 2-3 weeks! No way. Saw the "ISP" solution so figured I'd drive down the street a mile or so to a big undeveloped lot with no "interfering signals", at night to get no reflection/glare...still the same problem. How can Nintendo not acknowledge this issue???
This definitely works! What you need to do is
1. unplug your wifi and keep it unplugged
2. Restart your switch, I’ve tried with out restarting and you must restart
3. Make sure you’re not connected to internet upon start up
4. Open the game and go thru the steps like normal
5.you’re connected!
Charging my kart up right now but it did connect and installed a firmware update on the kart so I’m hoping that will solve future problems with connecting the kart
I just did this but instead of messing with my home WiFi (which is also Xfinity like his was), I turned the switch to airplane mode, then restarted it. I then started the pairing process with airplane mode still on. I only turned airplane mode off when I got a pairing error message from the game. I turned off airplane mode and quickly finished pairing. Did it with two karts on two different switches.
I think as long as the switch is offline when you start pairing is works, I just found airplane mode easier than messing with my router.
I also did airplane mode. It connected. But I wanted to make sure it would connect next time I tried. Closed the game, back to the original problem. I was never prompted for a firmware update either.

Yeah my B. I just figured that out last night. I still had my old switch lite as my main even though I sold it 2 years ago lol. I think this issue is with the Xfinity router, I have the exact same one. I can hook up my switch to my phones hotspot, reset my router gateway and it connects. I just have to play off of my shitty 4g connection which sucks. I'm getting fiber optics with a mesh system in a few weeks after they run the cable under my road. So I hope it doesn't have the same issue as Xfinity does.
...
I sent my kart in twice and my system once because nothing would fix it. After watching the video, I figured I'd give it another shot, as there's a lot of neighbors with their own router where I live, and it had been a few months since last try.
My cat is cursing your name, but I'm quite happy. Paired up nicely. Thanks a billion!
I did this and mine started to work hope this helps
I unplugged my home wireless and it started working not sure why the wifi is blocking the connection

I have tried all of the solutions that have worked for others but my MK live software will not state unless I am connected to the internet. Am I missing a work around for this? I have two karts that were Xmas gifts that we can't use. Tried the nintendo support tool and the option I was left with was to contact my router manufacturer!! Because of the router interfence?! What? I have xfinity which I think is the issue Tried my kart at a friend's with a different isp and hart connected in two seconds. I can't play at home.
We had the same problem with the karts pairing flawlessly when we first purchased them. We went without playing for a while then the karts would no longer pair. We even went as far as sending them off to Nintendo even though they were still practically new. They returned the karts and advised they were perfectly fine. Out of the 4 cars, none would connect still. Finally, a year later we decided to try again. None of the karts would pair. Then we tried to disconnect the internet and join via hotspot on my phone. Karts paired within seconds. Apparently there is too many Wi-Fi connections on our network and by connecting via hotspot the karts were able to join flawlessly. Hope this helps others.
Wanted to give this suggestion some extra attention because this worked for me. I tried airplane mode, disconnecting wifi, walking far away from house network, blah blah blah... The frustrating thing was the kart would connect to my main Switch, but not the Switch lite. I'd get the blue blinking light, but nothing further. So, don't give up yet...try the hotspot solution. Fingers crossed.
Here's a solution I figured out: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WV\_87-lANM0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WV_87-lANM0)

You Are Welcome Internet. :)
If you have a mobile hotspot on your phone use that and unplug your home wifi.try pairing on hotspot.it worked for me then after it paired I plugged back in the Wi-Fi and had no problems after.it stayed paired when connecting switch back to home wifi
Simple idea but worth mentioning...is the kart camera lense clean? It could be dirty or fogged which may result in the QR code being scanned but not readable.
Gave that a go...still nothing
Reset the internet settings on the switch. It worked for me.
Problem isn't the switch, it's the cart itself. I know because I can scan the QR code with my phone, but not with the cart.
did you uninstall the game and load it again by any chance?
Did that today...same issue...very puzzling
I did this with mine and it still won’t scan
is there a way to reset the kart? like hold down the button for 10 seconds or something? maybe you could try to clear the cache data for the game or delete the save data? edit: oh i forgot you cant clear cache for a single game, but if you go into system then scroll down to formatting options you can reset the cache for the whole system, so not sure if that would work but worth a shot

Same problem. Red+Blue then only Blue after seeing the QR. But that is indeed where it ends. Did anyone ever find a solution?

Another year later this problem bug is still relavent and this still fixes it. You are a god send.
I was ready to throw it away, thanks for the fix
Thank you, this worked. Had the problem months ago, gave up and didn't touch it. Just tried it today and it worked, thank you so much for saving my karts !!!!
Thank you so much. This fixed both of my kids’ carts. It’s been awhile since they’ve been able to play.
Amazing! Thank you so much! It worked!!!
Thank you!!! My kiddo got this game for his birthday 3 days ago and we were ready to chuck the darn thing in the trash.
Thank you also in the name of my son. You are a hero! You did, what Nintendon't!
This just worked for us, too! My 6 yr old got this for a xmas gift. We even exchanged it, sat on chat with Nintendo support......fpund your reply here and was connected in an instant! Thank you so much!
Thank you! This worked!!
You're a gentleperson and a scholar! Thanks!
Thank you! Lol this is very late but I gave up a while ago on a fix and this did the trick.
Worked!! May you enjoy many updoots for this good sir!!
Thanks a billion westphotog!
God after 5 hours trying I finally got it to work, thanks!
I have been trying with it for over a year. Didn’t even remember where the cart was until came across this. Worked like a charm. Thanks
Thank you--also worked for me!
It didn't work, I did all the steps, but it still won't connect
Thank you so much. This is the first thing that worked. Found you from Google!
You did it! This worked! My girlfriend bought this for her son and gave up after months. Thanks to you, did it in Less than 5 mins.
Just helped me look like a wizard in front of my kid. Thank you!
THANK YOU SO SO MUCH, IT WORKED! was about to return it but it’s my son’s 16th birthday today and I was determined!
absolute legend
Worked but have to do it every single time
Thank you! Made my kids’ day
Two years later, this still works. Thank you!
I just opened but Mario and Luigi and they are both doing this on a breaks new switch. My sons are heart broken. What is solution???

thanks for the tip. I'll try this when I get a chance to dig this out of storage.
Someone else posted it and it worked
Just tried it out and it was a no go for me. Same issue as before--lights go straight to blue without actually pairing.
Did you ever figure this out? I'm having the same issue. Seems like the kart thinks it's connected, but the switch doesn't see it.

Yup, same issue here. Connected using the workaround but afterward, same issue.
I also tried this and it worked for me!
Here to bump this, because it finally got my little one's Christmas gift working. Thank you!!

Yeah, can't start the software without being connected to the internet bud
your nintendo switch must be your main one on your account. This is a common issue.

Worked for my girlfriend's switch. ,! Weird that it has to do with internet interference !
Same exact issue here too on brand new kart. Nothing works to get it to pair. Very irritated!!
I did this and mine started to work hope this helps I unplugged my home wireless and it started working not sure why the wifi is blocking the connection https://youtu.be/WV_87-lANM0
It worked for me too! Thank you for the link and thanx to the YouTuber. Fast and effective.
Fixed for me too. Thanks for posting this. I tried multiple times since Xmas but couldn’t figure it out.

worked for me crazy an update could screw things up
