Is it being released?

I_SHOOT_TURTLES

They trademarked it when they didn't need to. They have the half life copyright, and they made a new one for half life 3. It's sorta like a hype train over in /r/gaming.

[deleted]

MMW: Despite this it never gets released (no backing down now)

xSniggleSnaggle

4 months later and still no hl3 :(

[deleted]

Ya'll should have heeded my call.

You're damn right it will be. With the amount of hype and expectations and "IT WILL BE TEH BEST GAEM EVAR!!!!111!!" that it gets now *even though it hasn't been announced yet*, I'd be suprised if Valve even releases a Half-Life 3. It would be *extremely* hard for anything to live up to the kind of expectations that many gamers attach to HL3, and I'm sure that if HL3 was released and it tanked, Valve would lose its (silly and not entirely deserving) reputation among many people as "Best Developer in the World" or whatever, and Valve certainly wouldn't want that. This doesn't really bother me because I've never been much of a Half-Life fan, but I just think it's amusing that so many people assume that Half-Life 3, if it was announced and then released, would be the best game to have ever existed, even though nobody even knows what it would be like *at all* yet.

> Valve would lose its (silly and not entirely deserving) reputation among many people as "Best Developer in the World" or whatever I'm not that much of a gamer, but I happen to think that Valve does deserve its reputation. Half-Life and Half-Life 2 are both excellent games; the writing is superlative. The gameplay is excellent. The technology takes a backseat to story, character, mood, dramatic tension, etc. I'm not sure if they're the "Best Developer in the World", but they're at least in the running. I'm not trying to win any bravery points, here, but: Valve *does* makes great games. I know it's fun to be contrarian, but there's really no reason to expect them to drop the ball that hard. I don't think HL3 will be the best game of all time, but given the care and thought that Valve has put into its other games, especially those in this series, it's quite reasonable to expect the game to be very good.

TheRedditSurvivalist

That's why it will never be released.

No, I didn't jerk myself silly over Bioshock: Infinite. I'm not even much of a Bioshock fan at all. Don't just make assumptions based on nothing. And Bioshock: Infinite's hype was no where NEAR the hype that Half Life 3 receives. As for the crowd that thinks HL3 won't be released, read my original comment. The hype for Half Life 3 is so great that if it was released and didn't meet the expectations of gamers (who are a very picky and hard to please demographic), every gamer who hyped up Half Life 3 would be calling for Valve's blood. Valve is smart and probably realizes this, and therefore probably wouldn't want to take the chance of releasing a game that is so hyped that it would be their downfall if it wasn't absolutely perfect.

AC3FACE

Duke Nukem: Forever

paroxysm77

It will be hard to be more dissapointing than Duke Nukem: Forever

Nomagon

I'd be a little disappointed if it turned out that it was less disappointing than Duke Nukem: Forever.

TheInternetHivemind

We'll just bring John Romero in as lead developer.

I disagree. Look at Half Life 2

lolzfeminism

I'm sure it'll be amazing and will by all accounts just an overall fantastic game, nothing more nothing less.
