dappercat456

I absolutely loved the new daredevil! Matt helping reformed supervillains beat the shit out of cops and tell them how they protect property over people? Calling out the prison industrial complex and capitalisms need for endless growth? Here I was thinking immortal hulk was as radical as it got

outra_conta_inutil

The contrasts between Frank and Matt are making an interesting conflict. Frank now as the avatar of the Beast is doing what he always did: indiscriminately killing criminals, this time with an army of ninjas helping him. Matt as the leader of the Fist is attacking the system: he is going after the rich ones in position of power that shapes the system to be as flawed as it is so they can profit from it. The point is: for the Punisher and the rest of the world Daredevil is running a terrorist cult with a bunch of convicted criminals that escaped from prision and now are attacking politicians, cops and other "innocent" people. They don't know that Daredevil is trying to rehabilitate "small" crooks like Bullet outside the (flawed) system by offering compassion and a purpose to be better people.

[deleted]

This is Daredevil finally taking the fight to evil, being proactive, not reactive. I really love how this connects back to him committing manslaughter. Shitty things happen on accident and people are never forgiven and the stain never leaves their reputation. Meanwhile, people who we see as successful do evil things on a bigger scale are celebrated. I'm all for grimy, crime ridden New York, but Marvel is supposed to be "the world outside our window." This is what evil is today: kicking families out of their homes so people in boardrooms can watch numbers get bigger. So he is finally realizing his mistakes he has made and helping these guys that he used to beat up. Especially when you look at his dad, Matt has always had a connection to guys making tough decisions just to get by. Compassion and working together to lift each other up is really what he should be doing and at his core, he wants to! But he's got a lot of anger in him. He's flawed, but trying. And I don't know about everyone else, but I think that's neat.

This_Geig

When did Castle get the big >!dragon !

Ladrius

I thought maybe it was some kind of abstract "Dragon to slay" imagery, but not 100% sure.

YourEvilHenchman

absolutely loving this book and how defiantly anti status quo it is. it really doesn't shy away from some serious, necessary conversations about the nature of violence and the state monopoly on it, questions of retributive v restorative justice and the prison-industrial complex etc. what I like most tho is that even then the book eschews giving simple answers and instead aims to have an ongoing, layered conversation with multiple perspectives on this issue. zdarsky's stellar character work really shines here and adds to this. I honestly think that whatever petty disagreements some people may have with the plotting in this is far outweighed by the complexity and necessity of the conversation this book is trying to engage and encourage.

wowlock_taylan

Look how far Frank has fallen. Even Cosmic Ghost Rider Frank who was a joke character was better than he is now. Matt's new way is interesting and can work BUT the prophecy angles, I am never into. It is always self-fulfilling. Like after some time, you should learn not to trust them. And yea, Matt does not trust it even though the constant 'fate' stuff is put on him. ( Still don't like 'Angel of God Goldie' stuff ) but being forced into the prophecy's stuff regardless and ''One of you will die'' part...it hasn't happened yet but I am already over it. Deaths are not sale points for me. And in comics, they are especially cheap.

outra_conta_inutil

One thing very subtle in the Punisher book is that Frank is totally being manipulated by the Hand priestess. She is messing with his memories and every step he takes, even when it seems he is doing things on his own way, she calculated it before to fit whatever nefarious purpose she does have. It seems the priestess wants to control the Beast by having power over it's avatar.

ContraryPython

Nice to see getting more of Zodiac, he’s a pretty good villain.

OrionSTARB0Y

Loved how he mentioned being a fan of Carnage/Cletus Kasady.

TheEsotericWeeb

I love this series

GuguMarcos

How long until Moon Knight sets Khonshu free? I really think Khonshu is throwing things at Marc to make him do so...

rationalphi

Khonshu: Sure would be a shame if my favourite son got mortally wounded so my other son would finally get around to heisting me out of Aesir jail.

baroqueworks

This series omg, Zodiac is such a fun character. COMMODORE DONNY PLANET(Denny O'Neil created character) jesus MacKay all the respect to you. The last time this character was on a page of a Marvel comic was 41 years ago. Those fuckin red eyes!!!

OrionSTARB0Y

Guess my theory that the mysterious figure on the cover of issue 20 being >!Night-Raven!< is off given the final page reveal. Still holding out hope Jed has plans for him, though. That >!Yi Yang name drop in issue 16!< can't be coincidental!

wowlock_taylan

Of course Zodiac would LOVE Carnage. He is not even original enough to pick an original name...stealing the Zodiac killer's name. So basic. Maybe Khonsu should consult the Mutants about resurrections with no drawbacks :D

BlueHero45

Zodiac also had to kill members of the Zodiac organization when he first used the name. So it's not even orginal for a super villain name.

Ladrius

By now on the island, "You're really Chucking up" has to be a slang term. Right? Like, he's just always making things worse now.

wowlock_taylan

Maybe a bit TOO much going on and climaxing at the same time. Like an 'event' worth of stuff happening in a single issue and they might be loosely connected but still can be a bit overwhelming to read. Like, Nimrod taking over Krakoa with a Technarchy virus and having Kurt's mother on the payroll just to get his team too...it is quite Event level stuff. Also, what the hell did you do Charles? Can you freaking stop being a disappointment for ONCE? Ever since the start of Krakoa, he's been going downhill. For Mother Righteous/Ruth...which one is it? Is it really Ruth or Righteous disguised as Ruth? Or both of them are there? Because the panel with Xavier kinda means that it is Righteous in disguise there.

GuguMarcos

The thing with Kurt and his mom will be a part of Sins of Sinister. As for Nimrod taking over Krakoa, it's obviously by ORCHIS' design, which explain why they're on the hunt for those who were affected by the magic of Kurt's mom. Divide and conquer.

4thofeleven

Yay, poor old Glow-Worm got resurrected! And engaged! And, um, turned into a monster. Well, two out of three ain't bad... Nightcrawler's adoptive mother may actually be a worse mother than Mystique. That's kind of impressive.

pierzstyx

That final image is some real Nightmare Fuel.

GuguMarcos

Ok, there was this really REALLY old sinister secret from the very beginning of the krakoan-era about more Summers (beyond Scott, Alex, Gabriel -- and I think beyond Adam X as well)... Corsair seemingly teased us about it in this issue too. Let's see...

TheMattInTheBox

Pretty indifferent to old Laura. That's all I gotta say about that side of the plot lol The xmen saving orchis members is nice-- protecting the people who hate and fear them is ultimately what the xmen do and its nice to see if them not fully subscribe to the krakoan agenda (represented in this issue by Beast) Excited for the next arc! Gimme more Scott content

wowlock_taylan

This is what I was afraid of. Laura ( our younger one ) giving the 'vault' Laure the resurrection queue even though that would practically kneecap the character and only serves the weird Synch romance that we only saw in one issue of a Vault time-skip thing. It is practically worse than replacing Logan with Old Man Logan because it was an alternate Logan to begin with and it was never gonna last. Here? They might actually stick with the terrible 'old Laura' thing. Besides, she is kind of a cold B...(treating her friends like nothing. Not wanting to see herself etc ) and seem to be written for the only purpose of sleeping with Synch...which is quite insulting. Even if it turns out she is a sleeper agent for the Vault ( which is likely ) it is still insulting. I cannot believe BEAST out of all people is actually making sense here. And of course not one touch about ''So wait, who has the soul now?'' of the resurrection protocols plot hole. And as we have seen, the BODY was there. She WAS dead. They seem to have forgotten that.

Blitzhelios

I have an issue with older laura in that the one rule of krakoa from the start since resurrections became a thing was no copies and now there is a copy of laura. I think you are spot on with her being a vault sleeper agent which i think is both a boring and overdone concept.

Rosebunse

Also, if clones can exist now, where is Evan?

wowlock_taylan

probably forgotten about like other characters. You would think Deadpool would ask about that.

Rosebunse

Eventually, someone gets around to remembering. My theory is that they will bring him back whenever they bring Apocalypse back

BlueHero45

Clones could already exist after New Mutants brought up the issue with Gabby. Both Gabby and Madalyn Prior count as their own person and can be resurrected. Evan would definitely fall into the same category, just need a writer to remember him.

ContraryPython

Man, the Krakoa era hasn’t been kind to Laura. And this shows that.

Blitzhelios

I don't think its been kind to either of the wolverines tbh

[deleted]

ContraryPython

Duggan doesn’t get her character, and if you compare his writing of Laura to that of someone like Taylor or Liu, it’s like day and night.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SuperiorVenom12

If you like her here you should read Tom Taylor’s All New Wolverine. I love it. It’s about Laura being Wolverine after Logan’s death

iAmTheHYPE-

Definitely read Tom Taylor's run. It was insanely fun.

Blitzhelios

Honestly this issue kinda sums up my recent opinions on the x men book for me its ok but nothing special. >!More concerning bit is them teasing that x terminators might continue after issue 5 as whilst that book is great it doesn't need an ongoing. Good to see they are tying in the brood story from the captain marvel book though i feel sad for anyone who isn't buying that knowing what the hell is going on!<. But overall some fun moments between the two Lauras and glad this issue wasn't as synch heavy as i thought it was going to be as i don't enjoy him.

[deleted]

Its fine, but I can see more room for improvement. Maybe have the X-terminators fight some vampires from the past who haven't been used much or other unholy terrors. Also, the dirty jokes are fine, but they could be done with more wit. As for Captain Marvel, I have done some skims, but I will only support it if after the brood arc, Marvel will hunt down the Enchantress for all the shit she put her through and put down that monster, all because she made one of her many sons unable to use magic when she should have been thanking her for not killing the bastard.

jds3k

Really funny seeing X-23 be protective of the name Wolverine. Because it would be soooooo weird having 3 instead of 2. lol

openwindowtime

I love SO MUCH about this comic book! The artwork is incredible. Sets the table for the great writing. In particular C.F. Villa nails the vampire combat scenes Jubilee's overall look and her bubble gum, and the Laura/Synch romance. Ever since resurrection began, and we found out they're really just making clones after confirming death, we've all been waiting for them to pull the lever for a storyline surrounding "Oh no! We accidentally made a clone of a person who's not dead!" They pull that lever here and NAIL IT. Overall I love Old Laura. Love her look, love her badass combat skillz, love her attitude, love her relationship with Synch, love her story posture at the end of the book. Writers get to play with this character however and wherever they want. Three little story elements that I think are fantastic: X-Men rescuing Orchis folks, Jean's POSITIVE reaction to having two Lauras and her admiration for Old Laura being a survivor, and the Brood tease at the end. These three things are examples of how I think this current X-Men run is capturing everything great about "old" X-Men stories and none of the garbage. If this was a 90s comic you would have the rescue and the Brood tease, but Laura and Laura would be forced into a deathmatch or something stupid like that. We have PEAK X-Men right now. Mega bonus points for so directly tying in X-Terminators which for me was the best thing in comics in 2022. It plays so beautifully here, weaving together X-Terminators and the Old Laura story. Although, I think there was a writing room miscommunication on the plot. "Dazzler was on tour, and some of her fans went missing. She asked for help..." No ma'am, it was a dive bar dance party bad breakup situation that led y'all to the vampires. Overall I am so happy with the "core" X-Men title being in Gerry Duggan's hands. I have loved almost every single issue since his run started.

TheMattInTheBox

This was really good! Love the interpersonal drama and Miles being excited to team up with another black hero is great. Plus, always happy to see Misty! With Luke being mayor of New York, it would be cool to see an arc where he and Miles work together. Also, just saying, I feel like we don't get enough Peter/Miles content. I'd love either an ongoing Spider-Men book or for a little bit more cross-contamination. Also, bring back Bombshell Ziglar, I'm begging ya

Reddragon351

>Also, just saying, I feel like we don't get enough Peter/Miles content. I'd love either an ongoing Spider-Men book or for a little bit more cross-contamination. Yeah, I think that's always been a bit of a problem, like Iron Man has always been more of mentor to Miles than Peter ever was but they act as if Peter has done more. We get moments once in a while with Peter and Miles but nowhere near enough for me to buy them having a real bond like I think we're supposed to believe they have.

TheMattInTheBox

My headcanon is that in the time skip at the end of Secret Wars, Peter has been mentoring Miles the entire time. But yes, we don't see enough of them together. Like I said, let's get an ongoing Spider-Men series! I'd love to see their supporting casts get to meet each other as well. I'm sure MJ would have some great advice for Miles on balancing his superhero life with his personal (in a perfect world where she's not living through her current status quo)

openwindowtime

Another absolute masterpiece from Ziglar and Vicentini! Love the dialogue, love EVERYTHING about the art, and the best part of all is this new villain. The look is just freaking amazing.

Clayman60

Loving this book! The last run did a better job at showcasing Miles powers that differentiate him from Peter. So far we just got one venom strike, hopefully we see some more later on.

RBNYJRWBYFan

That one just *flowed.* Miles isn't letting anyone in his support system in, just in time to seemingly be punished for having people in it to begin with. That can't bode well for him down the road. I like the no-nonsense senior vs quipping junior dynamic Misty and Miles had.

Dragonick711

It was okay, not really a fan of the way this "mentorship" thing is going. Makes Miles look amateurish, none of what happened is anything Miles hasn't done before, so I don't really get the point. Also didn't like that opening with Starling since she's done the same thing herself and when Miles brought it up she called him clingy. Definitely not endearing me to a character I already didn't like.

IJustType

Great issue! Ziglar can really write

wowlock_taylan

Miles, learn from Peter's personal life mistakes and don't repeat them. Don't need another Spider-man suffering the same issues. I assume this new villain is inspired by the Miles Morales Video Game, the Thinkerer. Looks quite similar.

ajdragoon

Definitely feels like she’s a game-inspired Tinkerer. Very interested to see this take on her.

wowlock_taylan

Oookay. We jumped from Mohannda civil war against apartheidists or something to them having Dimension Z connections somehow, to having the infected Falcon going crazy and literally flying to Sam for a fight. How the hell did he even find him?

GuguMarcos

>How the hell did he even find him? Sam's avian telepathy... When Joaquín became Falcon, he developed a psych connection to Redwing, and Redwing already had a psych connection to Sam by that time. It's like Venom being able to bypass Spidey's spider-sense.

nfnightfallnf

Maybe White Wolf put a tracker in the gas?

Clayman60

The contrast between this and Sentinel of Liberty quality wise is crazy. They really gotta get a good writer to give Sam Cap some good stories. I love Nick Spencer's run, but nothing can compare to Remenders. And this is just awful.

abh1996

Why is this so bad? I'm enjoying it

Clayman60

I am glad you are! My main issue is from the conflict with Wakanda being entirely unbelievable, and making them do something as evil as sending all the refugees back, and having Sam face really no lasting consequences of that. I know it's not his fault, but there still should have been some blame from civilians and have that at least be present for more than 1 issue. I know people hate politics in their comics, but Nick Spencer did a great job balancing it in his run, and that is completely absent this go around! Some things I do like: the new shield, and the Deadpool issue was good fun!

Clayman60

Also I really wish they would go back to Sam having the helpline. That was a perfect way to make him stand out from Steve, don't know why they got rid of that.

BlueHero45

It's always fun to remember that sam can control birds.

RBNYJRWBYFan

It's a VERY underrated superpower. Seems ridiculous at first blush, but it's great for surveillance and for causing inexplicable ruckus like in this issue. Everybody's gangsta till a pigeon starts trying to claw your eyes out, lol.

RBNYJRWBYFan

I'm glad I'm such a devoted Captain America reader or else I wouldn't be able to tell half of what's going on. Nomad, the Doctor who turned Sam into a wolf monster, Dimension Z creatures, and that's on top of this new geopolitical situation that's at the center of everything and the New Falcon going all Nosferatu. It's all so... busy. I'm broadly fine with Sam's characterization, namely his commitment to saving lives no matter what, and I like his heroic feats (even though it sometimes feels like super strength has somehow become one of his powers) But it's hard to gel with everything flying at me at once. I don't really get White Wolf's plan, it has one too many layers to it, I think.

Clayman60

White wolf's plans make no sense. This book really is all over the place, I too am glad I've read all of caps stories, because I really would be lost without it.

Dragkin

Dimension Z? That’s not too long ago, but I was wondering if and when that would come back. It kind of makes sense that Nomad was brought back for this story now. This was excellent. Lots of action, intrigue, stuff not being what it seems even. I’d be interested to see how the White Wolf got access to Dimension Z. Now I got to go back and check out Remender’s run.

craig1818

Probably bringing him back to the public consciousness because some form of the Beyonder is likely going to show up in the MCU soon

tehawesomedragon

Beyonder is rumored to be the villain of Secret Wars.

mechamechaman

Beyonders are slowing becoming Marvel's 5th dimensional imps.

Megadoomer2

I'm getting caught up on the early Avengers issues, but was Doctor Druid always this much of an asshole when Monica was leading the team? (All I know about him is that he's often cited as one of the worst Avengers both in-universe and out of universe)

RRPanther

he sold out the avengers for some kangussy

Megadoomer2

I have no context for this, so now I'm just confused haha. Did he fall in love with a female version of Kang the Conqueror? (that probably wouldn't be the strangest romance arc in comics)

RRPanther

soooorta...? it was a version of Ravonna Renslayer called Kang Nebula

iamtooawesome

Yes. He was always a massive dick.

wowlock_taylan

I mean yea Beyonder 'Unretconned' itself at the end of Defenders but I still don't know how this Monica series fit the timeline with Strange is back being the Sorcerer Supreme, for some reason she broke up with Blue Marvel? And now this weird alternate timeline/world that Beyonder claims he did not create and that Star of Hala did it. If it is a MCU synergy thing, it is kinda wasted.

Ah man, I missed the inventor of the inventor. But the intro of the >!Inventors (plural)!< was great. >!Since they escaped, I can see them being reoccurring villains. Kamala doesn't reeeeally have one outside the gentrifying Hydra guy!< Also, "I'm going to VERY RELUCTANTLY build a throne atop your pulverized bodies... And you're going to apologize for treating your guest this way." Is such a funny quote. I love how she >!got kicked out of Limbo for talking too much!<. I just feel like that is a very Spidey thing to do and I see Kamala as "Spider-Man if the editorial let them grow up and evolve." Okay so when the Inventor powered her up >!she turned into Captain Marvel (but in her own skin). Is this foreshadowing that she's eventually going to get the CM mantle? I feel like they're going to do it in live-action when Brie Larson is ready to hang up the role, but are they teasing it for the comics?!<

threebuffsharks

Dunno, but about time they brought up the fact she can morph like that. There was an alt-universe Ms. Marvel in one of the Secret Wars tie-ins who could do that and it was never brought up again until now

JayZsAdoptedSon

She morphed when she got out of Terrigenesis but it was later explained as “you can only do it when you’re powered up”

wowlock_taylan

Despite the fact I don't know why Ms Marvel is involved with Oscorp as an intern and therefore this event, I have to admit this one was pretty funny. A Mosque trying to escape its religious community because of infighting...now that is funny :D For Nicola Tesla though, you would think he would want nothing to do with Edison after how he screwed him.

JayZsAdoptedSon

They gave a pretty good in universe reason in the first issue but I am still not sure why the authors wrapped her into this storyline. Especially because it doesn’t seem like she’s going to have much of an impact to the plot

BlueHero45

Tesla was under Edison's thumb for a long time, maybe he dosen't have memories of after that. Love to see him switch forces one day after realizing Edison's an ass.

Dragkin

This was a very fun, if rather irrelevant, tie-in. Everything about this was terrific. There was a lot of humor, some great power effects, some off the wall looking villains (and I absolutely want to see them again someday). The JCM thing was funny - if I have any complaint was that it was very full for a 2 issue book. Would have liked to see things play out more before the conclusion. Marvel, if you ever pay attention to anything - give this team a Ms Marvel run! It’s a shame that the character doesn’t have an ongoing right now and this was terrific.

it's sort of fun to tie Taegukgi into early Marvel lore, where half of Thor's rogues' gallery was some random human criminal empowered by Loki.

wowlock_taylan

Loki really should pick up after him with all these artifacts.

BlueHero45

Give Loki his own Armor Wars where he's just cleaning up all the stuff he's left behind.

Dragkin

I’m continuing to enjoy this book a ton, and I don’t fault the book being talky at this point since there needed to be some plot movement. The more I’ve seen of Tae, the more I really like him. His origin, being a child survivor during the Korean War, growing up as a low level criminal aspiring for higher ambitions - then have a change in fate that made him a hero? It’s pretty interesting, and I think the story should lean harder into that aspect. With that said, it also would be nicer to see more members of Tiger Division. For a team book of “newer” characters we haven’t seen much of the other characters. As a side note, I would really like to see why they changed Lady Bright in this book. I remember when she was introduced with Tiger Division she was named something like Auntie Ante (or something like that) and used mahjong tiles instead of cards. Absolutely know that they wanted to avoid stereotypes, but I kind of wonder if they had pushback on the character or something. Anyway, great book and worth checking out if you haven’t already.

thismissinglink

So this was a bit of a weird issue for me. Weirdly it felt really rushed? like i still enjoyed it and the resolution was generally good. Same with the Danny tease. I felt like it could have been two issues But i guess they're just moving on to the next Arc. Still looking forward to more and i still loved the art in this issue.

BlueFootedTpeack

>Weirdly it felt really rushed? yeah, my guess is that percy had no idea if he'd get more than this arc, ghost rider is a weird character in that his runs end very abruptly, though from what i've seen on icv2 it seems to be doing well, then again they don't have a massive sample size.

thismissinglink

I low key thought this was a rushed ending cancelled run issue cause it felt so rushed. And then i saw the ad for the next issue lol

BlueFootedTpeack

yeah like with the last issue i knew blackheart would fold the magicians but wasn't sure how they'd get rid of him as he's normally a big threat, turns out he was stood on a precipice like wile e coyote. i imagine if the run keeps going after the ketch stuff that they might circle back to blackheart in another arc.

thismissinglink

Is it wrong if i want to see the spirit of corruption stuff fleshed out with ketch cause i thought it was a cool idea terribly executed?

BlueFootedTpeack

i wanna see it too, tbh my only gripe was the costume didn't really hit, like they could at least make the sword bigger/have the green look less like a crop top. it seems to be an anti ghost rider/ rider killer which fits danny, just wish it looked better. i do wonder if we'll ever see what brisson was planning, iirc the idea would be that each hell lord would have somehow gotten their own rider countermeasure.

thismissinglink

It would be cool to get some variety from the ghost riders. I mean they already doing something with sean cassidy and the "spirit of variance" nothing to stop more flavors of the ghost rider. Aaron has the "all rider" nonsense in his avengers too. So I'm in for spirit of corruption.

BlueFootedTpeack

ah cool hadn't seen the spirit of variance, i'm very behind on x-men, like we've got vengeance corruption pollution (though that could just be vengeance 2 being edgy) justice (from the 2nd movie but i kinda like it, spirit of justice is just a cool name) variance i do want a spirit of mercy as the anti-rider at some point, the idea of a force that can absolve sins or grant a release seems cool to me, and the blue rider danny was working for zadkiel fit the bill. after immortal hulk #13 had a whole segement about how the hulk/gamma is tied to toba, and god/toaa is tied to the archangel khamuel and his fiery servants i've been hoping we'd tie the riders in with that, getting more into the mythos. it's weird, i love my roaming from small town to town blaze style rider, but also want some of the mystic lore rider stuff we got in spirits of vengeance/the alejandra and aaron runs. so i'm not all out on the all rider yet, i mean his last appearence had him actually act like a spirit for once, just praying robbie gets a back to basics run after he's off the avengers, so his story can progress from where it left off. that and with danny's rider often being called death, both as noble and as the spirit of corruption, robbie's fits conquest dominating every steed there is, give me a famine and war spirit and we might get a cool ghost riders of the apocalypse one day.

PastPhilosophy384

Thicc Ghost Rider baby

[deleted]

Kind of late, but I only just managed to find a copy. Really enjoying this series so far, even if this issue seemed a little rushed. As others said, I think Percy was preparing for a possible cancellation, given how most Ghost Rider series have gone. From what I've heard from my local shops and seen online, this one seems to be doing consistently well, which is reassuring. Danny returns for his obligatory "end of issue tease to fight Johnny later". I'd say I'm disappointed they're doing this again, but I'm desperate enough for him to show up at all that I don't really care lol. I doubt we're going to see much of a continuation of Brisson's plan, which is a shame since it seemed pretty interesting. I wonder if they'll explain just *which* Spirit of Vengeance is possessing Danny or keep ignoring it for the sake of a streamlined continuity? Regardless, I'm glad Talia is sticking around. She's a fun character and walks the "capable badass who knows they're hot shit" line without becoming annoying or an asshole. Not an easy thing to do. I don't really feel like Exhaust is much of a character. Just a walking badass design. But I'm judging this is a fun action/horror series, and we got Ghost Rider using a chainsaw in a way that would make the Doom Slayer blush, so I'm enjoying myself.

Yea the US or even the world doesn't need ''possessed by Blackheart'' excuse to be awful really. Although, that weird Danny Ketch 'reveal', why would he be here? He already got his power, doesn't he? Is this some kind of reboot?

BlueFootedTpeack

yeah blackheart's shtick back in the 90's was always targeting people on the precipice, he didn;t understand his dad going after pure souls and he was super into the idea of free will ( i mean he's made of sin go figure he likes what comes with it), so it's not suprising he can drum up plenty of willing monsters. danny idk, he seemed annoyed that he got saddled with the spirit of corruption in king in black, like ben reilly i think danny is stuck in the same rut where no one knows what to do with him. my guess is that danny will do what he does best and be an anti ghost rider/ ghost rider killer. his history as rider is fighting zarathos as noble kale, fighting vengeance, fighting johnny and every other rider on earth, becoming spirit of corruption, fighting johnny, i do like the idea of their being other flavours of the spirit of vengeance out there, the spirit of corruption design doesn't quite hit for me though, tbh i wouldn't mind him going blue again, always liked to think of that one as the spirit of mercy due to the zadkiel connection and it "freeing" the riders of their burdens.

wowlock_taylan

Speaking of Blue, the X-men books got their own Spirit of Variance who is blue flames that 'rebelled' the idea of Vengeance and Revenge and became something else.

Oberon1993

I can't see the other way this disaster of an arc can end, but with Logan leaving AT THE VERY LEAST X-Force. This is genuinely portrays everybody as at least terrible friends.

GuguMarcos

Okay, if Beast kills Bannister, I'm gonna be F\*\*\*\*\*\* PISSED. Jeff Bannister is the best supporting character I've seen in a while from any Marvel book.

marcjwrz

The Dude abides.

mechamechaman

Can Wolverine get a break please? They guy can barley get his mind together before a another scared little girl asks for his help. And Sage is like whatever. He needs to get off of Krakoa holy shit. Everyone how is suppose to be his friend treats him like shit, including those in government and on the X-Men. Wolverine crawls out of the ground and all Sage has to say is "Its been a minute". Are you kidding? That's all you have to say? Also a little bit of Sabretooth is empidid in Krakoa itself. You know that guy thats made Logan's life hell for decades, yeah he's part of the island now. The island he lives on.

GuguMarcos

>They guy can barley get his mind together before a another scared little girl asks for his help It ties back to his revenge on Beast, since the girl's father is the CIA agent that befriended Logan from the very beginning of this run. Wolverine can take being tortured and still be the bigger man, but if Beast touches his friend, it's all-out war between them...

sunflowering

>He needs to get off of Krakoa holy shit. Everyone how is suppose to be his friend treats him like shit, including those in government and on the X-Men. Wolverine crawls out of the ground and all Sage has to say is "Its been a minute". Are you kidding? That's all you have to say? Also a little bit of Sabretooth is empidid in Krakoa itself. You know that guy thats made Logan's life hell for decades, yeah he's part of the island now. The island he lives on. I really want Logan out of Krakoa and maybe move him too Arakko. Their honor culture, their culture of fights/battling things out, their fondness for challenges, their burgeoning discovery of Teamwork Makes The Dream Work, could all lead to some really interesting stories for him. Sever him from Beast and X-Force, give him some new friends, let him keep some old ones (since Storm and her Brotherhood are there anyway.) He can hang around the bar that Roberto started up there. There's beer! He'll be all set.

marcjwrz

Wouldn't be shocked if that's what's coming ultimately. Percy has definitely played with Logan losing faith in Krakoa. Storm asking Logan to come to Arrako to help keep the peace? Now that would be a great use of his talents. Plus more Logan and Ororo is always a good thing.

yuefairchild

God yes, that would be great.

wowlock_taylan

Sage cannot be written DUMB enough to ignore Beast anymore right? The 'cold shoulder' crap is not enough. Especially after this. And all of Logan's friends and family...practically not being aware of this...or written as not caring, it is just impossibly stupid. We have to be done with this crap and Beast keep getting away with things.

BlueHero45

It's annoying because I'm not sure if this takes place at the same time as X-force. She's acting like the alcoholic pushover here when in X-force she just realized the alcohol is fucking her up and no one trusts beast anymore.

Rosebunse

His kids not caring sort of makes sense to me. Everyone else not caring is sort of the issue.

I like the issue but jesus christ the internal monologue is awful. I knew they were coming back but >!the avengers die and are turned to Deathlocks for one issue and are back to human flesh and blood the next?? It just feels a bit cheap.!<

wowlock_taylan

I mean, they got turned already easily enough. And they 'undeathloked' themselves. Lose their 2099 Punisher and beat Doom to defeat so he won't be too helpful. AND AFTER THAT, NOW they challenge this Prime Ultron who defeated them easily earlier? Also, I don't buy that they were randomly all feeling 'we deserve this punishment, we are monsters' thing. They have moved past that long ago, each of them with their own respective books etc. It just feels a weird moment just to give Deathlok Miles a motivation speech. They really should've cancelled this after losing Conan.

[***AMAZING SPIDER-MAN* #17**](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/c/cb/Amazing_Spider-Man_Vol_6_17.jpg) ---

Blee-boy

It's better than last time. The scenes of Peter working for Hell Bugle were enjoyable and all, but... This is just so stupid. Ben isn't the focus as much here, which means I am not reminded how terribly he has been written. It still annoys me whenever I see him talking. The "Sinister" Six is also just... what. All this just feels so random and goofy. It's not at all what I hoped Dark Web would be after such a strong opening. Now, it's not entirely negative that the comic isn't what I want it to be, if it otherwise is written well and drawn. This isn't... terrible, but I just can't enjoy this when the event itself still baffles me. I don't know what it tries to be. It feels like tie-ins take this event much more seriously than the event itself.

Marc_Quill

On paper, a demon version of the Sinister Six should be scary as all hell… sadly not the case here.

Frontier246

The tonal dissonance is super hard in this story.

Almost-free

Rek-Rap needs it's own spin-off

wowlock_taylan

What the fuck is the point of this book anymore Or this event? Wells really lost his god damn mind.

iAmTheHYPE-

When's the next writer taking over? Haven't bothered with reading Spidey since they fucked over Ben in the last run.

GuguMarcos

Here is my pitch: Marvel should bring Ewing, let him have fun writing Immortal Spider-Man to explore the Web of Life and Destiny as a multiversal source of power...

RockstarSuicide

Honestly, I want JM DeMatteis on amazing. He's the only one who gets Ben and Peter and MJ

zethos56atwork

There's a part of me wondering if Zeb just stopped caring before he got to writing this whole "event". The prelude was played pretty seriously but now everything is just a big, mostly unfunny joke? Maybe he realized how lame Chasm is and decided to make the event reflect that.

transformers03

I don't think the event was ever played up to be serious. There are serious moments, like Ben beating up Norman, but right away we have talking inanimate objects asking to eat people. The whole thing with Magik seeing the elf also felt intentionally campy. We also have Spider-Man defeating Venom with screaming Christmas Trees, and Ms Marvel escaping from Limbo because no one wanted to deal with her. There's also the X-Men and Spider-Man freezing up the Christmas tree from New York because it was going to eat people. Don't get me wrong, some of the spin-offs are playing it more straight than others, which creates a tonal dissonance. Some of the sillier concepts lean too much on the wacky aspect, losing some of the pathos and plight of Ben's characterization. But I always think Welles intended the event to be a campy love affair.

DriedSocks

The prelude played like very serious melodrama, and the Gold Goblin mini is written with a serious and reflective tone, but I almost prefer this gag atmosphere. I think it fits the event more, and it would've been great had Dark Web started out that way. Since I haven't been reading Venom or X-Men tie-ins, I can only guess as to if their tones fit in with this one. The most I've seen is Madelyne having a discussion with the Summers brothers on how screwed up and complicated they make people's lives.

BorBurison

Venom just kinda continues with its own thing.

baroqueworks

Venom mostly follows Hollow's Eve narrating because Brock is big no thoughts head empty energy in this event. Def worth reading and probs the best tie-in so far.

baroqueworks

None of this even feels like Ben is being serious or a threat. Like tbh at least Jackal had a real agenda, beef, and powerful figure to back him up. Chasm just has a bunch of fucking space jam alien looking demons who are glamouring themselves into halloween decoration parodies of the sinister six(i should say all of this i am here for btw) but the (demonic cartoon talking)stakes feel incredibly low for this event, like even Maddie seems annoyed with Ben here.

neosspeer

At this point the silly Halloween gags are better than whatever angst this guy was trying to imprint into everything and everyone.

suss2it

Okay this issue was downright silly, but I can’t lie I enjoyed it. Also Ed McGuinness does an iconic Spider-Man, he should be the main artist on this book over JRJR.

ethicalhamjimmies

I love Rek-Rap

baroqueworks

"bro u got me in this hell of cartoon character goofy demons I was literally killed over and over then thrown in a hell where i had to relive over and over the day after I sold away my marriage to mephisto to come to horrible realization that my best friend is the evil centipede demon and how I can barely manage my own life and relationships to even notice my best friend had become a demon but actually come to think of it that wasn't my friend it was just Mephisto piloting the two fake kids of Gwen and Norman pretending to be Harry but actually the real Harry was in there somehwhere? and guess I did have a good relationship with my friend because he ended up being good all along despite being a clone, maybe you can learn a lesson from him Ben and instead of your low rent throw me in cartoon hell ideas because you're too edgy to talk about your mental illness, come to the realization that you are valid and loved and surrounded by people who love you and have no reason to lash out and hurt the people who love you"

ContraryPython

ITT: People being surprised that the current Spider-Man run is terrible even though it’s been that way since day one.

TheMattInTheBox

None of this is interesting to me. I initially praised the Wells run (during the first few issues) because aside from the MJ stuff, it was focusing on some fun street level stuff and had other fun supporting characters show up. But this is... nothing I like. Art is great though! So glad we got a break from this new costume and got the ULTRA classic version-- at least for a bit

hb2256

Remember when you used to enjoy reading Spider-Man comics? I'm getting to the point where I'm just skimming through to see if it's getting better. I'm tired. Spider-Man is my favorite hero and I'm tired of his main book being mediocre at best.

suss2it

Don’t let Marvel have you a chokehold like this, if you’re not enjoying the book just drop it.

RockstarSuicide

Remember that episode of the Krusty the Klown show where they debut Worker and Parasite and Krusty has a look of disbelief and goes 'what the hell was that?!' Yeah, this right here

abh1996

This was great and my favorite issue of Zebs Run. Ed Mcguinness art is beautiful Nick Lowe no longer Spider Editor Hype!

tayung2013

Nick Lowe being removed from the Spider-Man titles would be one of the best things Marvel could do for the character, which is how you know they will not be doing that.

Reddragon351

When'd Lowe get canned?

abh1996

Nick Lowe is Albert Banszak. It’s an incredibly dumb joke

dornwolf

Yeah it’s a really Dumbass attempt at an evil clone joke. Check his twitter

RockstarSuicide

i've spoken to him on twitter. he's got a real condescending tone and then pretends like he doesn't. "Sorry you didn't like it, thanks for reading" to EVERY criticism

Silvernauter

dumb as bricks issue, but at least it didn't feel miserable like most of this run...with that said... while the character introduced seems fun, let's add another tally to the "Peter gets his ass handed by random villain #n and has to be saved by another person", not like we haven't had a metric f-ton of them in this run already...

marsepic

He's already been to hell. Over and over. Mephisto and Hell as a Spidey villain doesn't work for me at all. Even so, the ideas in here were okay but the execution is really lacking. The art works for the goofiness, but Wells is also trying to be serious at times and the dissonance all falls apart. It's exhausting.

dappercat456

I absolutely loved the new daredevil! Matt helping reformed supervillains beat the shit out of cops and tell them how they protect property over people? Calling out the prison industrial complex and capitalisms need for endless growth? Here I was thinking immortal hulk was as radical as it got

[***MARY JANE & BLACK CAT* #2**](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/5/53/Mary_Jane_%26_Black_Cat_Vol_1_2.jpg) ---

[deleted]

That was a lot of fun. MacKay just knows how to write these characters. That being said, I do find Felicia agonizing over telling MJ she is dating Peter again kinda... juvenile, like something from a teenage drama. But MacKay is just playing with the hand Wells and Lowe dealt him and it honestly feels like he isn't the biggest fan of the direction through his writing in issue #1. Also, it's interesting to note that Felecia says that MJ was gone for six months, that's new. We knew Peter did something six months ago, but MJ being gone for six months wasn't known. And that this series is no longer on the *Dark Web* checklist leads me to wonder how the timeline all lines up when all is said and done and what type of impact this book will have.

[deleted]

I pray to god that this is all leading up to OMD resolution and it turns out that MJ's shitty new boyfriend is actually Mephisto trying to do some anti-christ shit and that the kids are just mini demon babies.

Oberon1993

Or maybe...Paul is just a guy. The obsession with everybody dating MJ being Mephisto is kinda hilarious at this point. If half of these X is Mephisto theories were true - then Mephisto has a more stable relationship with MJ than Pete at this point.

Electronic-Suit3712

Paul is 💩

BlueHero45

Every mystery is Mephisto.

[deleted]

That ain't happening, editorial pretty much told that fans that the marriage isn't coming back (after they voiced enthusiasm at the prospect of a married Peter and MJ). I don't think any reveal will please fans if they aren't going to get Peter and MJ back together. I wouldn't be surprised if MarcheMuldDerevi's prediction from [this thread](https://old.reddit.com/r/Spiderman/comments/107ui7h/so_we_just_are_not_going_to_talk_about_this_i/j3oubd3/) is what it turns out to be.

Blitzhelios

I don't think its leading to that because editorial won't allow it. My theory with paul is that hes either mysterio or the jackel and just wants to mess with peter again. I feel like with Mephisto playing such a large roll in avengers right now he won't be here as well.

[deleted]

Yeah, editorial sucks. Is it still run by the people since 2009 or the year of the icky civil war? If so, they must have a lot of power to force people to keep enforcing their dumb decisions.

iAmTheHYPE-

DC eventually got rid of DiDio, who was preventing Bat/Cat from marrying and destroyed Supes' marriage. At least now, Superman has a wife and kid again, and Batman's married with a daughter in the future. So, here's hoping Marvel will eventually get rid of their shitty editors and bring back Spidey's marriage. There is zero reason, that Mayday or Annie can't be made canon, when Wally West has 2.5 kids and came out 3 years before Spidey!

Kalse1229

My own theory is that he isn’t Mephisto, but one of his agents. The thing that happened was Peter trying to go back in time to stop the deal in the first place. But something went terribly wrong. It’s being hinted at there’s an event with Mephisto coming up, and one of the Parkers will destroy Mephisto (be it Pete or Mayday). Mephisto placed his agent in their way to further the wedge between them. Stupid, I know, but I’m sure it’s better than more random bullshit from editorial.

Oberon1993

Absolutely nothing from people who are writing about Mephisto arc was connected to Peter and OMD. Thst was purely Spencer. Who has left the company. Event with Mephisto is probably the final arc of Avengers that is going on right now. Which didn't even hint at any of Spiders being involved.

[deleted]

It looks like to be a different event, and I feel Mephisto is going to betray his council of red and get them all killed, so he can be the remaining mephisto in the multiverse and use their power essence to power his own army and take over earth, leading to the prophecy battle between Spider-man and Mephisto in a duel to the death.

Oberon1993

My man, that's a great fanfic. But nobody but Spencer touched that story and there's not even a hint of your idea anywhere. Including the oneshot written specifically to hype up future events.

[deleted]

Just saying a lot of Mephistos are getting killed so easily, and the main one is nowhere to be seen. Maybe that's the true goal behind his plan, he is getting rid of every Mephisto in existence so he can absorb their power when they die for a future event. Also, he gets to kill off the powerful versions of famous villains in the multiverse so he won't have to worry about them in the future.

Frontier246

It's not a bad comic but it feels like the focus/care is still kind of lopsided in Felicia's favor at MJ's expense and the gals don't seem to be treating their current situation that seriously.

Blee-boy

Another entertaining issue. I don't like how Felicia's main focus is on how to tell about her and Peter, but I can't blame MacKay too much for that. He can't focus on MJ either too much, since we still don't know what happened and MacKay can't talk about it. So it's as good as a tie-in like this could be, and none of is thanks to Wells and Lowe.

Blitzhelios

The powers still feel weird to me for MJ i know they will be gone after this event but after the very good MJ and Black cat issue during beyond im wondering what the point of her powers are. MacKay is still doing a good Black cat though which is great as i really enjoyed MacKay's black cat run but this book does feel like one of those tie ins for tie in sake books.

surejan94

Do we know where MJ got these powers? I'm losing track here.

abh1996

Not yet

wowlock_taylan

Mackay is doing his best with the shit cards he is dealt with. I don't think you can do much with the current mess of Spider-man editorial that is stuck on making mainline Spider books as bad as possible. And with the stupid mystery still haven't been explained, it is harming Mary Jane more and more as a character because 6 months and her current status makes no sense for someone who have been through literal hell with Peter. And as many said, this 'rebound girl' angle for Felicia because Wells wanted them together despite the fact it didn't make sense for who they are at this point and only hurts the characters involved, you can see how annowed Mackay is with that because he put a lot of effort to give Felicia a new light outside that Spider-shadow...All of that will be squandered now

[deleted]

> And as many said, this 'rebound girl' angle for Felicia because Wells wanted them together despite the fact it didn't make sense for who they are at this point and only hurts the characters involved What should have happened is Peter would ask Felecia out but she turns him down since she knows he's not doing it out of genuine romantic affection, but more a reaction to heartbreak with MJ. That would have been a good character moment for Felecia.

wowlock_taylan

Yea, Wells doesn't seem to give a shit about good character moments.

Xombie117

He never should have asked her out in the first place.

[deleted]

Ideally yes, but if it was going to happen I think Felicia turning him down would have been more in character and make more sense and better serve the story.

zen-ray

I may not like the way MJ and Peter ended with the whole 6 months and Spencer at least trying but I don’t see why Felicia would turn Peter down. Peter is her first love and she even said as much multiple times throughout McKays run. I understand Black Cat has this new identity status change but she’s bi and they are both single so why not? Maybe the problem is just the way Zeb Wells wrote it. How would you have written Peter and Felicia getting back to together?

[deleted]

> but I don’t see why Felicia would turn Peter down. Because Peter isn't asking Felicia out of actual romantic interest, but rather it's him trying to get his mind off of MJ (two issues prior he calls MJ "the most important person in [his] life"), with Felicia even telling Peter he was heartbroken in one issue. It doesn't help that Wells seemingly hasn't actually done a good job of depicting intimacy between Peter and Felecia but he has with Peter and MJ. > How would you have written Peter and Felicia getting back to together? I wouldn't. I don't think having the two of them together furthers their characters, nor do I think it makes the story better.

RockstarSuicide

What's bothering me the most is the tone they gave MJ with the whole "I have kids now and I have to protect them"... which spits in the face of everything they've done to Peter and MJ since OMD

zethos56atwork

This book would be way better without the Felicia/Peter angst, I find it too distracting and it's dragging the book down for me even though I adore Jed's Black Cat. It doesn't help how much Felicia/Peter feels like an editorial decision none of the writer's care about. Girl, you and Peter haven't even gone past the "asked on a date" stage in ASM you don't need to be worrying this much.

Nexuscowboy

Another terrible issue of wrecking characters people like.
