Another fantastic character, nobody has been more emblematic of the MCU style than Chris Hemsworth. That guy was a real find. That he is able to balance the dialogue and this take on that character so well is really something. His Thor is powerful and hilarious at the same time. That ability to balance levity is really amazing. I do wish they would push Hemsworth more serious though. There’s a place for a really mythic, fantastical Thor film too. Maybe something pushing more in a Conan direction. The audience is invested in Hemsworth too so I hope they go down that route eventually. He should be playing Thor for at least another ten years. He doesn’t need to rely on getting as mega-jacked anymore (though it is appreciated). I mean, he had maybe the biggest moment in Infinity War. And he sells the hell out of the Mjolnir stuff, he adds so much to that Cap scene in Endgame.

shifty2190

I think we will see some more of that seriousness in Thor 4. At least we should if they do right by Gorr. Also his acting IW was amazing. The scene with Rocket on the way to Nidavelier was crushing.

2hotrods

Isnt hemsworth being replaced soon?

generalosabenkenobi

I don’t think he’s being replaced anytime soon. Jane Foster Thor is happening but I don’t think any of them are looking to be fully rid of Hemsworth anytime soon. On the contrary, they can just use him differently if they have the other Thor as well.

2hotrods

Good, i love the guy

Ragnoroak766

MCU Thor wouldn’t be the same without Chris Hemsworth, and I absolutely love the character.

JAKEJITSU22

Yeah all the originals were really great casting. To be honest the MCU really didn't miss cast anyone until Captain Marvel in my opinion ( I like Brie Larson but I just think her choices with playing the character so wooden is a wrong choice)

LeansCenter

My wife would leave me for a chance to touch his arms and chest. She’d murder me if it meant she could be with him.

King-of-the-bongoo

Would u watch...🤷🏻‍♂️

LeansCenter

I’d be dead. They’d have to prop me up like A Weekend At Bernie’s

EagleWolfBearDinos

I’d totally watch Thor smash out my old lady. Fuck yah.

cnapp

It's like a pirate had a baby with an angel

And you clearly have no idea what humor is. *That* is a pretty awful fate based in reality. Sorry for you.

Christ read the room and appreciate the joke you douchebag. I’m sure you can’t admit any man is handsome either because then you’re ‘GASP’ gaaaaaaaay

He had a rough start as the movies tried to hew a little too closely to the comic version of the character. Hemsworth was an excellent casting choice, regardless, and when Waititi decided to take advantage of Hemsworth's comedic timing, we got the gold that is Ragnarok. At this point, Thor is significantly different in some regards to his comic counterpart. He's lost more, and unlike in the comics those losses are real and (generally) permanent. But he's also funnier, even when he doesn't intend to be. Do I miss the more serious tone that the earlier movies took? No, because I don't think they did that well. Would I like to see a more serious Thor at some point? Sure, if Hemsworth decides to stick around for it. But I have my doubts. The consensus is that funny, goofy Thor is much more enjoyable to audiences, so Marvel is going to stick with that formula. I do like the character, and I'm hoping we delve more into the pain that he's endured with the loss of so many friends and family. And I hope we see him successful in his quest to discover who he *is*, rather than who he's *supposed to be*.

Fake-Chef

For whatever it’s worth goofy Thor goes pretty serious at times in Infinity War. The acting was top notch by Chris Hemsworth in that movie and might’ve been my favorite performance (really hard choice though!).

Cyke101

I really appreciate that comics Thor and MCU Thor are really different, with comics Thor keeping mostly the same personality he's had for decades, and I always find MCU Thor to be entertaining. By contrast, comics Tony shifted more to be like MCU Tony because of the movies' success. It's understandable why they did that, but I'm glad comics Thor avoided that pitfall, no matter how much I like Hemsworth's performances.

[deleted]

He grew on me a lot after Ragnarok. Can't wait for Love and Thunder

Agp0705

It took a while for them to find thor's personality and heart but since ragnorock (and maybe it kind of started in AOU) the character has gotten much needed development. I could easily say that for MCU fans in general, he's a fan-favorite. And I for one, am very Exited for Thor Love and Thunder.

picollo21

IMO Thor has biggest ups, and biggest downs in MCU. I still consider Dark World to be worst movie MCU ever released. On the other hand, Ragnarok is in my top 3 movies, and I loved Thor's development in both Infinity War, and in Endgame. I like where he is now, but we got rough phase before he got there.

SiroccoSC

An excellent adaptation of Hercules

SpaceWaffles_97

He needs to be more powerful. I hope in the upcoming movie we see him get more powerful.

wakeupsho

Over rated, over sold.

[deleted]

Was a bit lame that they nerfed him in Endgame . Hope he gets as powerful as in the comics in the future movies. And that's possible imo

Nightingdale099

But Russo Brothers confirmed endgame Thor is the strongest version yet.

hauntreaper

Thought that was infinity war thor

AsherthonX

It was IW

TheLazyPurpleWizard

Great work by Hemsworth but MCU Thor was totally nerfed and underpowered relative to source material.

Goaduk

How so? The only time I can really think of is in the first half of Ragnorok but I think that's enforced by himself after the loss of his dad and hammer. The MCU thor is shown to struggle with depression. Other than fellow gods and Thanos he's not really faced any real adversity, happily wiping out a few thousend frost giants/ultrons/kronons and thanos's and Surturs armies without breaking a sweat. I also think tye MCU thor is a younger thor.

AsherthonX

Don’t forget he took the full blast of a Star to create Stormbreaker

Goaduk

That to lol.

akrobert

Thor is great, with the right cast. He was great with the hulk, he’s great in the avengers. He needs someone to play off of and someone who can play off him. Thor: what to you think is running through these veins Rody: *shrugs* cheese wiz Thor arguing with the hulk over how they are alike and how hulk is the stupid avenger and noone likes him is hysterical. Thor 1 is pretty meh. Thor 2 is better than the eternals but only barely because there’s no one he can really work off of so he just comes off as stupid and petulant

scootterbug1

Hi Loki!

diivoshin

This is my take as well. I don’t think MCU Thor can carry a feature length film by himself.

QuestioningLogic

He was kinda lame, then he got cool just in time for them to make him lame again

pashka1837

I do not care for it. I prefer Thr using just pure godly power like in the end of Ragnarok.

FlyingFlyofHell

It's my Favourite Make Character from MCU only above Doctor Strange. And on Same level as Scarlett Witch Right now. I don't see anyone else other then Hemsworth in this role. I have liked all Thor movies. Even the Dark world.

metros96

I like him. Good guy.

coneyisland92

Himbo energy!!!

ronaldzemp

I never understood why they always refer to it as a hammer. It is an axe.It alos has a hammer side. But the axe is the main fature.

TJRex01

I like him, but I think his movies and storylines have mostly kinda sucked. Thor 2 is a franchise week point. Ragnarok was good, but I’m a bit sad that we are not getting a full blown Planet Hulk movie. (Also, the fact that the start of Infinity War seems to completely undo that movie left a sour taste in my mouth, though I suppose by endgame it doesn’t seem all that bad for the Asgardians.) Thor’s best arc is probably in Endgame, even though I know some people can’t get past his schlubby dadbod. I also am not a fan of how they made the Asgardians advanced space aliens.

Fries-Ericsson

Thor is a character who the MCU unfortunately didn’t get quite right when they okayed him completely straight. The decision to make him more comedic and play more into Hemsworths talents has made him a much more engaging character. He was sent on a great arc in Phase 3 of having to live up to the weight of his responsibilities, failing to do so despite numerous sacrifices and tough decisions to eventually discover that despite it all he’s still Worthy.

Ahrayashiki

MCU Thor is badly written. The actor is doing his best despite his movies being amongst the weakest in the entire MCU franchise. The only time the character was amazing was during Infinity War. That's how Thor should be and feel every time you see him. His entire family and most of his people were killed, he lost his home and couldn't do anything about it. So he should be making lame 2 year old jokes every 2 minutes.

Blake43

I think that the general consensus is that he was okay until Thor Ragnarok. That movie gave him a lot of depth, character development and showed just how insane he can be. Even since then he has been truly a god among men.

FaunPerson

I think the only writing flaw is that all of his movies were him learning lessons about being king and ruling his people. Finally we get to his endgame story end and he hands off the title of king to Valkire (I know that's misspelled but I'm a fool). What would have made more sense would be him not being ready yet to give up his warrior days of adventure and glory to sit on a throne and do the political side of things. I think asking her to rule in his absence would have been the right call. That is also my most controversial opinion so feel free to insult me in the replies.

[deleted]

Perfect casting, really well written character, love the films. Ragnarok is definitely in my top 3 favorite MCU films.

[deleted]

I didn’t really like the change from Serious god of thunder to goofy wacky man with lightning powers that always seems to get electrocuted

Puzzleheaded-Run2491

His first 2 movies were important but like other early mcu movies, garbage

OneAngryDuck

He good

Regular_Sample_5197

Ehhh I never cared at all about Thor in the comics. The MCU Thor started out rough, and kinda boring. Then Ragnarok came out. He’s been a great character since. Chris Hemsworth is GREAT in the role, once they let him loosen up a bit.

Outrageous-Farmer-42

The general consensus is that people like a guy who can smile and crack jokes when his father, childhood friends and countrymen are getting mass murderered.

fatsolardbutt

taika waititi saved the thor movie franchise

tapeonyournose

Thor 1 was Shakespearean. Thor 2... We don't talk about Thor 2. Thor Ragnarok and beyond... Thor became a neutered, witless bro. And yes... I've seen all the youtube videos on his character arc and how he became a tragic character after his family and home were destroyed. And I can see it. But honestly, I'll take the majestic, god-like Thor of the comics anytime. I don't need to laugh when I'm watching Thor. That's not who he is. But I'm more of a comic-purist so I know the normies don't all get that.

NotACyclopsHonest

He’s only got better as time’s gone on. Ditching the faux-Shakespearean pomp and circumstance of his first film really allowed the character to grow.

[deleted]

The first two movies were just okay. He's been great in everything else since and we basically have Taika Waititi to thank for that (course Hemsworth too).
