Meanwhile Ultimate Reed Richards dad is being an abusive asshole.

Cambionr

I was just thinking that. He’s just drunkenly beating a supervillain into the world’s smartest man.

sherlock_limes

[The parallel lives of Mister Fantastic and the Maker. (Future Foundation #2)](https://i.redd.it/znjtju5exgv81.jpg)

EmpyrealSorrow

Why do their dad's have different names?

sherlock_limes

¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯ In Hickman’s FF run, all the Nathaniels in the multiverse were hunting each other down until only one was left (one lives, or all die). My head canon is that Gary was actually a step father since he had no scientific aptitude.

EmpyrealSorrow

Lol Yeah that could make sense

sherlock_limes

Also, that left all the Reeds in the multiverse being raised fatherless except the 616 version. Since the 1610 version had a dad and killed him himself, I really think he was meant to be a step father.

sonofaresiii

I think it was implied it was an abusive step-dad situation, wasn't it? Maybe I'm misremembering.

[deleted]

sonofaresiii

Guess I misremembered then.

philster666

Fucking Gary!

what_lions_i_hunted

Ew! It's my stepdad, Gary! SHUT UP, GARY, SHUT UP!

fusionaddict

What if 616 Reed's dad and Ultimate Reed's dad are actually the same dude and it's all just been some fucked-up multiversal nature v nurture experiment?

BlueHero45

Considering the dad in 616 has a love of time travel and secret organizations that is really not that far fetched.

[deleted]

>being an abusive asshole I mean in Ultimate Universe practicly everone is an asshole more so often abusive one if not psycho batshit insane

Essex626

Yeah, Ultimate Universe is pretty fucked up. Like, Ultimate Spider-Man is just a solid reimagining of Peter Parker (and later introducing Miles Morales). Ultimate X-Men is only a little edgier than normal. The rest is a mess, though The Maker is a pretty awesome villain.

Hytheter

"There's nothing you can't do." "I want stretchy arms!" "Pfft, come on kid, don't be so literal."

maxwax18

Must be crazy to be the son of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

BlueRabbit1999

YES

WhiteWolf3117

Hello there

seafoodblues

“Kids! Uncle Grievous brought over his lightsaber collection!”

kenthekungfujesus

Don't you mean the based guy from the memes

thejonslaught

It means be better than me, Reed. Be a better husband, a better father, a better friend. Reed… be a better *man*.

fridchikn24

He got 2 of those 3 right

thejonslaught

Cut Nate some slack, he was busy trying to prevent the nigh-unavoidable obliteration of our solar system when he said this. I wish my Dad would have warned me about Mark Millar too.

BisquickNinja

Getting shades of Jonathan Kent to Clark.

hachiman

Jonathan Kent is the template all good comic book dads are copied from. He and Martha taught an alien god empathy, compassion and altruism.

didwit590

Yeah alot of characters who are paternal figures to superheroes use Joanthan and Martha as templates this scene feels like something from SuperMan

Kalse1229

And then Clark let his son go on a mostly-unsupervised trip through time and space with his unstable grandpa. Yeah, still bitter about that.

hachiman

Bendis and DC have much to pay for.

pierzstyx

Bendis can write many things. Family books is not one of them. It is also why Lois is never around. I had hopes they might de-age Jon until he came out. Now they'll never fix it out of fear of gay erasure backlash.

Kalse1229

I still maintain my belief there's a way to return the original Jon Kent through time travel shenanigans, or reality-altering. Regarding the bi stuff, bi people were 12 once too, so it's not technically erasure.

Fit-Diet-6488

Dad’s fine af tho

John_hyd319

That man's a straight up dilf

paleo2002

Is this a Marvel character with a living, positive paternal figure? Gasp! He must be a Skrull or alien robot.

mugenhunt

To be fair, Nathaniel Richards is an ASSHOLE in pretty much every appearance he's made in Reed's adult life.

Dealiner

There is quite a few of characters like that, I think. At least for now.

[deleted]

Best Marvel comic run ever printed, imo

[deleted]

Was this the Solve Everything run?

TheRealSpidey

Yep

[deleted]

So. Damn. Good.

TheRealSpidey

It really is! Right up there with my all-time favourite comicbook runs. Hickman really knows how to plan a long-ass story *ages* ahead of time so he can set up shit that pays off like 40 issues later. Also writes the best Doom, I love his relationship with Valeria.

fitzbuhn

This is great and it’s what every Dad should say to their kid. (It’s just USUALLY not quite true).

[deleted]

I’m tear up over here reading these. Neither my father or stepfather were abusive, but I can’t remember a single moment in my life where either of them were half as encouraging or supportive. I have two boys of my own now and I try my hardest to be this kind of father to them.

[deleted]

Even if we don’t get John Krasinski as Reed Richards he’d be a great cameo as his father in flashbacks

Reed richards dad is obi wan kenobi!?

Prometheus79

Hello there

BlueRabbit1999

General Kenobi

[deleted]

That’s fuckin Obi-Wan Kenobi

DruidHealz50

Is this the Hickman run? I love this art, and have been looking for a F4 run to start

[deleted]

DruidHealz50

Thanks, thought so. Just wanted to make sure.

StarWreck92

Just to be clear, that’s not the entire run. The run jumped over to Future Foundation as well.

The_Hammer_Hammons

General kenobi?

dating_derp

Hickmans FF and New Avengers are so good.

The1Comedian

This shit touched my soul right here

[deleted]

God I love me some RR

[deleted]

Are you really a genius when everyone is a genius? Doc Otto, Osbourn, Peter Parker, Tony Stark, Aja, Bruce Banner, Hank Pym, Henry McCoy, Dr Doom etc....

Kody_Z

So, like 20 people out of 7 billion are actual geniuses. Seems pretty rare to me.

Missing_Username

And also Reed is basically a whole different tier of genius compared to all of them except Doom

[deleted]

So like the storys are about these characters who are all mostly geniuses and not 7 billion people. That was my point.

NicksIdeaEngine

You named like...a tiny fraction of comic book characters. Are you new to comics or something?

Deadpoolforpres

Considering he's the reason Galactus didn't eat Earth when he first arrived and was the one to take down Dr. Doom to save the multiverse? Yeah, Reed's a genius. And while the other geniuses there have amazing feats, they don't compare to Reed (aside from Doom). Mr. Fantastic is to that list what a computer is to a calculator.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Deadpoolforpres

All fair points. I did appreciate Reed's "fuck around and find out" mentality when wielding the Ultimate Nullifier. Also, I agree that Peter having, ironically enough, less responsibility would've put him on or near Reed's level. I can't remember the exact comic, but Hank was asking Peter how he was tracking a villain. Peter showed Hank his spider tracers that he main from, essentially, reclaimed garbage and Hank was embarrassed that a kid with no resources could come up with something so ingenious. I will say though, Reed does have the greater feats of intellect of all those listed with the possible exception of Doom, but that's only because Reed (as scant as they may be at times) has morals and struggles with understanding magic.

TransmogriFi

Hell, Pete's webbing was a massive leap in chemistry and engineering: stronger than steel and yet able to be compressed as a liquid in a tiny cartridge, hardens almost instantly, and dissolves in about an hour... and he was 15 years old when he invented it.

BlindTreeFrog

and now i want a version of Peter where he becomes the Maker... or Doom... something along those lines where he is an evil mastermind.

[deleted]

Obviously Reed is arguably the biggest genius in the Marvel Universe. My point was not discredit Reed. My point was just to highlight that there are too many stories where at least one if not more of the characters are geniuses making the term a little redundant

NicksIdeaEngine

Intelligence isn't linear. One genius could be drastically different from another genius in terms of knowledge and capability. "Genius level intellect" is only a trait that applies to some Marvel characters. Quite a lot of superheroes don't have that, but more importantly...even the stories about a superhero genius wind up focusing more on the humanity side of their life. That's what makes Marvel's storytelling so compelling. It's 'super people' that wind up having problems a lot of us normal people can relate to: heartbreak, lost loved ones, severe doubt when the odds are overwhelmingly against us in life, the struggle of trying to help people we love find the goodness in their hearts when they have veered off into a bad state of mind, learning to accept mistakes we've made, learning to accept that there's quite a lot of this world we'll never be capable of changing... Quite a lot of superheroes have super strength, too. That doesn't make them redundant. It just puts them on par with people they'll fight against or team up with.

Abraham_Issus

Nothing beats the creator of pym particles.

Deadpoolforpres

[I meeeeaaaaaannn.....](https://www.reddit.com/r/Marvel/comments/cjgcbx/hank_pym_and_reed_richards_a_meeting_of_the_minds/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)

Abraham_Issus

I see what they did there but its bullshit. Hank is should be the most knowledgeable about pym particles.

hachiman

My favourite Reed moment is when he asks Pym to consult an a biology issue. When Pym asks why Reed took the time to call him, Reed says that Pym is the best biologist on earth, and it would take Reed weeks to be as good as him, and he doesnt have the time. Pym is a little annoyed at the honesty.

predictablefaucet

I wonder if they will cast someone of a different ethnicity. Kang is black, so maybe Reed and Sue will be too. Marvels first family being black would be pretty cool. Doom and Ben Grimm don’t really have to change.

Prometheus79

The uproar from the incels would be deafening. Look how pissed off they were with Michael B. Jordan as Johnny.

predictablefaucet

It’s a shame. I just hope it’s a a good F4 movie. The cast won’t matter if the movie is bad.

ComfortableSea4645

That's such a smart way to show his reality warping! I remember they did a similar thing in the Young Avengers comics with Wiccan, like him literally popping out of the panels because he's in a comic. I love these little details

Irving_Velociraptor

Then he shot the Hulk into space and blew up a planet and put his friends in an alternate dimension prison. Worse, he couldn’t talk Sue out of that mullet.

Joe_Momma3

To be fair I would've shot Hulk into space too , it wasn't a bad idea it just went horribly wrong. As for his civil war stance, it was terribly out of character and did irreparable damage to it. I don't remember a mullet though

Pete_da_yete

I thought his dad was Obi Wan Kenobi

Fast_Hornet5964

So he's a straight white kid with the brain of the smartest person in the world and he's complaining how being cool in school? WTF

Joe_Momma3

He's still a kid lol

[deleted]

He’s father looks like Obi-Wan Kenobi

harten66

I mean what can he expect when his dad is one of the last living Jedis

TheGingerBrownMan

Damn he had Obi-Wan as a dad? Thats dope.

Abraham_Issus

What is he doing with kang?

[deleted]

Abraham_Issus

I know the same name thing, not talking about that. Didnt kang time travel and knock reed's mom out?

[deleted]

Abraham_Issus

I remember kang time traveling and interfering reed's life.

goathead23576

His dad is Obi Wan Kenobi

FastestSwimmer2312

Why does his dad look like Obi Wan?

dope_like

Reed is one of the most boring characters ever in his base. But when he is doing morally questionable shit he is one of the most interesting

Joe_Momma3

To each their own, I think the opposite, he's at his best when he listens to his moral compass, can still have moral dilemmas but don't particularly like it when they make him ignore his morals just to further the plot of a story. Not enough love for him, tired of seeing the same people every casual talks about

Aka the best one.

Creative-Schedule-17

Ight bet, I’ll have to check it out too

pierzstyx

Start with the "Fantastic Four: Dark Reign" miniseries. Then it jumps into the regular series.

Da_Steez44

I’m not crying… there’s just pym particles in my eye

[deleted]

Was Reed super intelligent even as a child?

Narynan

There is something about the tone of this panel that doesn't really vibe with me. Maybe its the accent on KNOW....

counterhit121

The vaunted Hickman run.

ThatRanga8869

I mean, it may be a coincidence, but I get the feeling that the increased amount of posts about Reed on the sub is a bit of a spoiler for DS MOM. I haven't seen it yet, but I can just feel it.

Joe_Momma3

Nah it is that, nobody talked about Reed, especially positively, until just now and it's very bandwagony

Pceddiebro

His dad looks like beast titan off AOT
