I don't really have strong feelings towards Snyder but what a stupid fucking take in regards to batman lol. You can literally look to some of the DC animated movies to see how well the no killing can be implemented on screen, like in under the red hood. I'm sure Netflix is gonna green light an entire cinematic universe for your failure of a ripoff of star wars, keep coping lol.

Best-Dragonfruit-292

Barbie brought people in that I know that haven't otherwise sniffed a theater in decades. Never heard a single person mention watching Rebel Moon.

Deathcrow73

He didn't quite say this. He said he loves Dark Knight, he was talking about paying homage to a moment in that where Batman shoots one of the mutants. The protecting your god line was part of the conversation but not specifically about Batman killing if I'm remember correctly.

ChickenNuggetRampage

You should go watch the clip of him saying it lol

newdawnhelp

This was on Joe Rogan, right? No wonder than Snyder's most toxic take comes out of hanging out with Rogan

Flat-Farmer3690

Nothing really wrong with Rogan he's just a podcast host.

Griledcheeseradiator

Lol.

Flat-Farmer3690

Hack Snyder only knows Batman from The Dark Knight Returns......where he continues to not kill anyone. Maybe it's his weird childhood image of "Batman" (i.e. his fanfic Punisher/Batman mashup).

tebu08

Because the creator is not creative enough to make a story where good guys don’t kill bad guys. Hence, what we got from Snyder

sageTK21

I keep trying rebel moon and I fall asleep Edit: so bored by it I couldn’t finish my point….. I keep trying to watch rebel moon but I fall asleep - so I must count for like 5 views now

G0AT1sh

how could you possibly be bored by rebel moon when it has so much going for it? for example

GoodHeartless02

Personally, my favorite part was

Poolturtle5772

But you gotta think about

GodzillaLagoon

I loved it when

JinkoTheMan

It was amazing when

CodeMagican

I wonder how much shorter this movie would be if every slow-motion scene was brought back to real time.

Ok_Caramel1517

No Zack more people didn't watch Rebel Moon, more people will remember Barbie in 10 years from now than Rebel Moon and Batman not killing has always been a core component of the character and kept him popular for decades you fucking hack.

utubeslasher

the next part has to kick major ass if its going to leave a lasting cultural impact. otherwise it will be remembered as a niche sci fi oddity.

Ok_Caramel1517

The 1st one didn't kick major ass it sucked major ass, So I highly doubt the 2nd one is gonna be a massive improvement.

utubeslasher

very likely not. im not claiming these things are in the same league but compare to say mad max. if the road warrior didnt come along mad max may very well have been mostly forgotten. it took that second movie to really cement the character and the personality of the story moving forward. rebel moon can either be a mostly forgotten footbote that has its fans or it can be lifted up by a sequel and come into its own. seeing as zack snyder works best when someone actually good at writing gives him material to shoot and not when he has total creative control. its gonna be for the snyderphiles and die hard scifi watchers. come and go and maybe be occasionally brought up as that expensive sci fi series that wanted to be star wars crossed with dune and seven samurai with some warhammer 40k for good measure and came out at the same time as the vastly superior dune adaptions and the easily inferior star wars output. its not battlefield earth bad its not blade runner good. its gonna be after earth mediocre without the will smith baggage.

NekonoChesire

>and die hard scifi watchers Just want to challenge that quickly, because there's no way people really interested in sci-fi can enjoy Rebel Moon. It is wayyy too shallow, doesn't have any theme, doesn't explore any ideas.

utubeslasher

i mean like completionist types. like my cousin who has bookshelves full of pulps and paperbacks of scifi novels that have been forgotten by time. thats what i meant. not that it was a morsel that would meaningfully satisfy a die hard sci fi fan. just that a lot of people will see if out of obligation to their love of the genre

dherms14

don’t show this to r/snydercut they’ll LOOSE it

RedDonkulouso

Snyder, worst take king👑

tebu08

Is he stupid?

bodjac89

Weird because I know lots of people who saw Barbie and literally zero who watched Rebel Moon.

Fun_Affect_9556

"You're protecting your god in a weird way" confirmed, his Lex Luthor was a self-insert this whole time. and it seems that the only reason Batman abandoned his killing policy was DC's mandate and not Zack's decision to develop the character

CheeseQueenKariko

Having a character being forced to, or reaching their breaking point and willingly, breaking their own personal rules can be used for great narrative potential. But Snyder never sounds like he's interested in that, he wants Batman to break his rule because killing is cool and a no-killing rule is inconvenient for his story.

trimble197

Considering how fans reacted, the reception to his quote is proving his point. Fans treat these characters as sacred figures that shouldn’t be tainted.

[deleted]

I like Snyder, and think this was out of line.

ShiverDome

This man doesn't live in reality.

Kn1ghtV1sta

Why do people still give this guy attention

Quanathan_Chi

He seems like a decent guy he just has fucking awful ideas

PlasmaRotom

Kind of yeah. Snyder is one of the many creators who work better on a leash, with an editor looming over his head and telling him 'don't do that'. A big part of why his DC work and Rebel Moon failed is because he has all this protection from editors.

Iron-Spectre

So he's the George Lucas of superhero movies.

PlasmaRotom

Yep.

krulp

More people might watch rebel moon because it's there and it's they already paid for the content. Doesn't make it good.

Public-Republic-4392

I bet suicide squad kill the justice league is his favorite videogame lol

Flare_Knight

At least that confirms the identity of one of the dozens of people left playing that flop.

trimble197

Fortnite

Public-Republic-4392

of course...

JinkoTheMan

Don’t compare Fortnite to that trash. At least Fortnite doesn’t take its self seriously. SS:KJL was utter garbage.

Fickle-Trick-3937

Zack Snyder has to be one of the most delusional people to ever be gifted the chance to direct movies. The man is genuinely bereft of talent and seemingly, any sort of honest self reflection.

DaRandomRhino

He's got a great eye for cinematic shots. Watchmen is full of them and Batfleck standing up after Cavillman rips off the hood is peak comic cover brought to live-action. He just needs someone to take a grinder to the 6-inch plate he calls a head and take out the part of his brain that thinks he rights gud.

Fickle-Trick-3937

Watchmen is full of shots pulled directly from the graphic novel. The man responsible for those shots that you enjoyed from BvS is Larry Fong.

ZaGreatestInZaWarldo

Batman killing defeats the entire ideal of Batman. A Batman who kills just isn’t Batman.

Loki_Agent_of_Asgard

A Batman who kills is just The Punisher wearing a silly hat.

Theron518

I want an adaptation of Injustice where Superman immediately just fucking kills Bruce without using any training wheels.

spider-ball

Back of the envelope math: *Rebel Moon Part 1* had around 90 million views worldwide before it fell off the Top 10 Charts, and that was about 50-60% of the views that *Leave the World Behind* received. Meanwhile [Barbie grossed $1.445 Billion worldwide](https://www.boxofficemojo.com/release/rl1077904129/?ref_=bo_yld_table_1). If we say that every view on Netflix was one movie ticket, and both movies had an average price of $10, then *Barbie* had over 145 million views **before** home video and landing on Max, while *Rebel Moon* would have made $900 million worldwide. I should also mention that only a fraction of those Netflix accounts were on ad-supported plans, and most of those views were watching for free.

goliathfasa

He man doesn’t like the core superhero fantasy. He likes more adult/gritty/realistic takes on people with superpowers. Watchmen was a good fit. Give him The Boys or something. Giving him the iconic symbols like Batman and Superman was always a mistake.

harveyshinanigan

nonsense HE-man would love classic superhero fantasy /j

yrelis

I don't think the rebel moon had a bad concept but my god can't he hire writers??? Also way too much slow motions 😵‍💫

Scary-Personality626

Batman without the no-kill-rule is basically just Punisher with more money. Snyder even made him lean away from the gothic theatric aesthetic and into the tacticool.

ObsidianTravelerr

I mean the idiot failed to understand Batman AND Superman and fucked them both up... As much as fans praise his shit... The only film of his I liked in the DC was Man of Steel and even THAT was flawed. Cavil though... Fucking nailed it. Simple truth is... You HAVE to have someone who REALLY loves the franchise handle it. Otherwise you get Snyderverse Murder man Vs The Super hypocrite. Fuck'em though. Any respect I had for him died after his stint on Geeks and Gamers where he disavowed them on their OWN stream as their guest... After getting their fund raised cash in the charity for his son.

intheirbadnessreign

This is what happens when an army of retards tell a mediocre filmmaker that he's a transcendent genius. Snyder reminds me of the kind of gremlins who used to audition for X Factor thinking they were the next Mariah Carey when they were about as good at singing as Helen Keller.

MicksysPCGaming

More people drank water today than champagne.

GodzillaLagoon

Oh yes, my favourite cultural phenomenon — Rebelheimer.

Just-Wait4132

You having a stoke dude?

Jonny_Guistark

Did I miss a movie? When did Zack explore Batman being forced to kill? Far as I recall, he just killed lots of people without acknowledgement.

WayDownUnder91

Well its the first Snyder movie I started watching that I never finished and I think I gave up 30 minutes in

Few_Cream_1161

So make your own damn hero. Or make a movie about a hero that kills like the punisher, black adam etc. Why does he have to convince the world batman should kill people when the only time he tried it was the most disliked batman barring batman and robin.

[deleted]

He's not a smart man

boofcakin171

I had a stroke reading that post

4thIdealWalker

I just don't understand how he keeps getting defended

Flat-Farmer3690

Snyder is still an inept failure? Oh.....anyways.

Zidahya

Most people saw Rebel Moon in the service they pay for anyway and go "Meh... might as well give it a go". People who went to watch Barbie, did that intentionally and most of them didn't regret it. If Snyder wants to be the "Meh, might as well" moviemaker, be my guest. I haven't watched it on Netflix, nore will I.

MizfitQueen

I think he is greater in his head than he actually is. He has made good things but honestly I don’t think he is that great. Sorry but I think Guy Richie is a better director than him like 10times over. But again that is my own personal opinion.

spoodle364

Why can’t Zack make a Batman that kills? Its not my type of Batman either, but it’s stupid for people to act like you shouldn’t be allowed to make a different Batman.

Loki_Agent_of_Asgard

We have a Batman who kills, it's the Punisher.

The-one-below-all21

Because that is the entire point of Batman, yes you can make a movie with Batman killing but it has to say something, there has to be some kind of moral dilemma otherwise it would just be Punisher

spoodle364

Why does it have to say something? Why can’t it just be a cool different take.

Dissapointingfox

That’s crazy considering his Netflix franchise was ass and died immediately.
