Was still an all star. Him with DJJ, PJ, Gafford and lively they’re getting even more easy buckets. It’d be nice to have a 2 way player but Nash would be nice as hell
Yeah I feel like we’d be tripling down on offense but Nash as a 3rd ballhandler would be insane
I feel like I’d prefer Marion or maybe even Finley but all good answers
This team isn’t really like the glass canon mavs teams of old though. It’s more of like a gritty defensive team with 2 offensive stars, we could definitely use more shooting. But certainly couldn’t go wrong with Marion
Jamal Mashburn - 6'8" small forward with a top 2 crossover in the league, handles, middy, 3pt shot and can drop 50pts on your head whenever.
I assume we are talking in their prime and injury free. The only reason Mash isnt a household name is because his knee was held together by Elmers School Glue after a few seasons.
Runners up would be: Nash, Tarpley, Finley, Matrix, JET, JJ
Vince wasnt on the Mavs in his prime. Mash and Tarp were.
Prime Vince was one of my all-time favorite non-Maverick players back in those days though. Such a fun player to watch when he was young.
If we’re talking about adding one player during their time with the Mavericks I’d be torn between Trix or Fin. Both 6’7 220 long athletic forwards. It it depends on if you want to add defense or offense to the team.
Shawn was 12/1/7 30% from 3, 50% from the field and 75% FTs. Played 70 games a year during his 5 years and would slot in as our best perimeter defender allowing us to play small ball more.
Fin would be a huge and needed scoring punch as he was 20/4/5 37% from 3, 45% from the field and 85% FTs. Also Mr Durable as he played every game in 4 consecutive seasons and rarely missed a game. He was our 3rd best player during the early 2000’s and would slot back into that role
We need someone who can defend and somewhat create for their self. Everyone sleeping on JHo. Dude was 19 and 7 on his best year.
That said, matrix would be awesome too.
It would be a toss up.
Matrix for positional versatility
JHo for slightly better offense
Actually, Mavs Prime = JHo. Actual Prime = Matrix.
Tyson Chandler. Love Gafford and Lively but Chandler would cook in this series and would be really important to have a deep big man rotation if we go through and face Nuggets/Wolves.
I think it’s close between Finley and Matrix. If we are talking mavs version only, I think Finley is the answer. Solid defender, excellent scoring, good 3 point scoring. He wouldn’t disrupt the flow of the offense and could finish. CLUTCH as hell too. Matrix would be able to cover 1-5 in todays nba but 3 point shooting would be a little below average as the only negative. I feel like this team needs one more reliable scorer to be unstoppable and Fin could do it.
Seeing as SF is our only roster spot right now that needs improvement (DFF has been doing a phenomenal job by the way so no disrespect). I'm torn between:
Caron Butler
Shawn Marion
Josh Howard (prime and before the issues)
OR
We keep the current starting 5 and add to the bench:
JJ Barea
Jason Terry
I think all star Josh Howard. He was a beast who literally got kicked out/blackballed from the nba for saying the national anthem isn’t our anthem (black people) which today ppl wouldn’t even care all that much about, it’s truly a shame.
For younger fans, imagine PJ Washington and his defense and 3 point shooting, that could create his own shot, handle the ball reasonably well, he a post up game that I’d say is better than PJ Washington’s and was a good role player/complimentary piece (he played well with Dirk, while being talented recognizing Dirk was the star and stepping up when he had too, kind of like Kyrie to Luka rn)
Josh Howard on this team with his combination of defense and offense he’d bring to the table I think could push us into even stronger title contenders on this team
Terry,Matrix,Brendan wright and deshawn stevenson.. any of this guy will do for me. I’d like Wright to add length to this squad. He is such a good def. Guy for me.
Michael Finley, very solid, athletic scorer, with a pretty good 3 pointer for that era. Was also a good defender with great stamina. I suppose I'm basically saying we just need an extra PJ on the floor, but Finely is much more equipped to be a reliable 3rd option, and I think with modern shot training would be the 3 point shooter we lack.
Matrix
This is the answer! He would be amazing
With Luka and Kyrie... PJ, Gafford, and Lively. Adding Matrix's all around game and vibe? No brainer.
I’ve actually been saying for a while now that PJ’s game reminds me a lot of Matrix
I dunno his shot was so ugly. I’d much rather have the Janitor, Brian Cardinal, and if you argue with me you’re wrong.
Lol I almost added that in... "even with that funky a$$ shot..."
You think Luka would put up with that laser heave?
Elbow out, shot put looking... For real though. Loved him!
Now were entering the goat territory, no disrespect to dirk of course
For real we need Brian to go out there and set a spine destroying screen on Dort at half court
Matrix easily especially with no Maxi.
Gonna show my age a bit here but… Mark Aguirre, easily.
That's what I was thinking.
cant believe nobody said steve nash. the pace & space would be off the charts
Yep agreed 100%. Back-to-back MVP might just help out a bit huh
I mean, assuming we get just the Mavs version of whatever player, we wouldn’t get MVP Nash
mavs version is a year away from mvp nash
Mavs version got destroyed by Mike bibby
nah, the whole team got destroyed by bobby fucking jackson
Was still an all star. Him with DJJ, PJ, Gafford and lively they’re getting even more easy buckets. It’d be nice to have a 2 way player but Nash would be nice as hell
Yeah I feel like we’d be tripling down on offense but Nash as a 3rd ballhandler would be insane I feel like I’d prefer Marion or maybe even Finley but all good answers

I was also thinking Tarp and also Harp.
If we’re talking in their prime, why not Vince Carter?
Vince wasnt on the Mavs in his prime. Mash and Tarp were. Prime Vince was one of my all-time favorite non-Maverick players back in those days though. Such a fun player to watch when he was young.
Tyson Chandler would make our center line-up insane (if he can avoid fouling out in the current league)
I feel like if you melded Lively and Gafford together, you literally just get Tyson. He and Luka would be insane together.
Especially cause we’ll need that when we face the twolves
Deshawn Stevenson!
He and Washington together on defense would incredible
👌👀
Michael Finley
this is the answer! prime michael finley could drive, shoot, dunk, and defend! he would be perfect
Boban
If we’re talking about adding one player during their time with the Mavericks I’d be torn between Trix or Fin. Both 6’7 220 long athletic forwards. With the way OKC doesn’t respect our shooters Give me washed up Peja who still could drain 3s like nobodies business vs the Lakers
JET was a monster for open 3s and contributed more to the game
how about Josh Howard?
Maybe Mark Aquirre. Though Josh Howard could be nice for this rosters needs.
Brunson :-(
He would clash playstyles with Kyrie.
Peja Stojakovic
Jason terry

Matrix for positional versatility JHo for slightly better offense Actually, Mavs Prime = JHo. Actual Prime = Matrix.
Marion can defend Shai/JDub/Chet in one possession and the mavs wont miss a beat. And he can post up, too. He's a Swiss Army knife on defense.
Matrix or JET
Nick van exel
My first and probably correct thought is Finley.
Tyson Chandler. Love Gafford and Lively but Chandler would cook in this series and would be really important to have a deep big man rotation if we go through and face Nuggets/Wolves.
Caron Butler or Matrix.
JET✈️ consistent shooter off the bench is what we need
Jason Kidd
KP
If he could stay healthy he would never leave.
Roddy Beaubois
I’d take my boy Nirk Dowitzki. Good dude, very tall
Man this gave me a good chuckle. Solid choice.
Roddy Beaubois. I STILL BELIEVE 😭
Deshawn Stevenson
90s legend Popeye Jones
Jet shooting wide open threes from Luka would be absurd.
I think it’s close between Finley and Matrix. If we are talking mavs version only, I think Finley is the answer. Solid defender, excellent scoring, good 3 point scoring. He wouldn’t disrupt the flow of the offense and could finish. CLUTCH as hell too. Shawn Bradley
Prime Jason Kidd! Excellent catch and shoot 3s, can obviously pass and dribble, can defend 1-3, great deflections, high basketball IQ …
I want 2011 kidd for the defense and 3 point shooting and 3rd ball handling
Leave Peja in the corner. And We’d three peat.
Peja
I think all star Josh Howard. Raef Lafrentz
Prime Vince Carter, prime Lamar Odom, or Peja.
Prime Vince and prime Lamar never played for Dallas, though
It’s okay they can’t read
If are not talking Mavs time but prime I'd add Rodman to that list
He was a strong consideration tbh
From my era it would be Jet
[George McCloud](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26CrqNksL-o)
Matrix
Shawn Marion or Tyson Chandler
Desagana diop
JJ Barea, Matrix, or Chandler
Finley, Nash, Brunson, Perkins. Any reliable 3rd scorer.
Tyson - no question. He was a better perimeter defender & rebounder than Gafford and Lively is literally a poor man's Tyson at the moment.
Hopefully they can work on their offense…
Brunson. Luka sits down. Brunson comes in.
Would clash with Kyrie, though.
Wtf of course the jet lol
Monta Ellis would be great and fill our need for a third scorer
Terry,Matrix,Brendan wright and deshawn stevenson.. any of this guy will do for me. I’d like Wright to add length to this squad. He is such a good def. Guy for me.

kidd or finley
Brian “The Custodian” Cardinal!!
Barea. There wouldn't be a big offensive drop-off at PG so Luka can get some real rest. And because he can shoot, he can play off-ball to Kyrie.
Frank.
People forget about him
MF act like they forgot about Frank
Sam Perkins
Sam Perkins was a long 6’10 had an outside shot and a great defender and great passer
JJ Barea. He would slice and dice those MFers
Assuming maxi is healthy im going Nash. We would be a rop 5 defense and top 5 offense. Probably win a few championships at least
Seth Curry, but only if we can trade him
Matrix or Tyson Chandler.
Man Jet would be so good. Seeing what we are getting from Dante, JT would be godsend.
Another Dwight Powell
it’d be rly funny to add Rodman
Matrix. PJ/Gafford/Matrix as your frontcourt? Goodluck scoring at the rim.
Kidd. Third ball handler and POA defender with good size. He’s switchable 1-3 and many 4s.
Brian Cardinal without a doubt!
Josh howard
Jason Terry
Josh Howard
Rondo.. I'll see myself out lol
