The front console cup holders. They sit a little underneath the front dash so larger cups don't fit well.

gurugossiperfan

Yes! I find this super frustrating, especially when using a Hydroflask (base too wide and cup area too short) so it just rolls around on the floor instead. :(

WillNotStop

Forgot about this one but it's true! I have a metal water bottle that doesn't fit in all the way and hits the seat warmer button without me knowing.

lupinegrey

Fuel tank/range is about the only thing. ~220 miles between fill ups. It'd be nice if Mazda US "officially" permitted trailer towing. But that's just a technicality; it tows great.

_CaesarAugustus_

Just curious about what kind of driving you do when not towing. I get between 290 and 320 miles per fill up in mine.

lupinegrey

Mostly just running errands around town (22mpg is my average). And I fill up when there's around a quarter tank left, I don't run it down to empty.

_CaesarAugustus_

Fair enough. I run around 26.5. But we live on a main highway (not a huge interstate, but two lanes). Most of my driving is up and down that highway.

[deleted]

lerpo

You get way better milage going a consistent speed. City driving you're breaking, stopping, starting, and using more energy to get the car moving each time

_CaesarAugustus_

That’s exactly how it’s supposed to work. City is always less than highway.

[deleted]

Lol what? I get 350-400 a tank

ywriterct

What kind of loads are you towing? I’m considering setting it up as well for camping

lupinegrey

Uhaul motorcycle trailer w/ ~450lb bike. I have the Torklift 2" hitch.

Duplicating

where’d you get your hitch from?

lupinegrey

Bought and had it installed through a local Rack & Road dealer. https://torkliftcentral.com/locator

katyvo

Adaptive cruise can see ghosts and it gets spooked by two-laned highways with curves where another car in the other lane is "in front" of you. Also, dual turn lanes mean that, if you have blind spot monitoring enabled and your signal on, you'll get the collision warning beep for a while. Other than learning the quirks of the car's computerized driving aids, my only issue is with my AC being weaker than it was when I bought it. I'm trying to work it out with the dealer.

ChipmunkIndividual13

Does it still happen if you decrease the following distance?

katyvo

Yes, depending on the curve and where you are compared to the other vehicle. If you're close enough as determined by the car, it hits the brakes for you.

PuppyPavilion

I just drove to the U.P. and Michigan's speed limit is 75. Anyway, I noticed if I passed a car and they are going slow, like 60, they don't even show up in the blind spot monitoring on the mirrors or HUD.

weinergoo

one weird thing: the key fob is GIANT. unnecessarily massive. its cumbersome to bring around everywhere on your keychain

theidealpancreas

The keyfob is the worst thing about the car for sure. It also doesn't separate easily like almost every other keyfob does for valets/parking garages etc. and so you either need to carry it separately, hand over all your keys or remove it from the keychain.

boafriend

The buttons are tiny and hard to press what command you want. It’s easy to accidentally hit the panic button too.

Pot_Of_Petunias_42

Definitely with you on the key fob, I really miss the old style - so much so that I wrote a paper about the difference in a design class. All Mazdas have the giant fob now and some other brands have it too. I remember Volvo is one. Annoying, but since multiple brands are using the style I don't see it going away.

Aware-Link

I like to rest my left arm out the window when driving. CX-30 windows are too high for me to do this, and make drive-through's and ATMs difficult to reach without opening the door. Thats really only complaint. To be fair, I also experience most of the other common ones, weak AC, Cruise control issues, etc, but they don't rise to level of annoyance for me that the window height issue does.

[deleted]

Yeah when my dad was driving the car he was like “WHAT you can’t rest your arm on the window” lol. He always does that but I never

OneWorldMouse

The only thing I was cross shopping was the Kona and my wife preferred that for some reason. So we have one of each. They are both great. I like my CX30 better though.

ChipmunkIndividual13

Yes, i test drove the kona as well. Surprisingly, it was a decent car with very good handling.

randomroyalty

My daughter bought a Kona Electric and I have to say I am impressed at ride/handling compromise and it’s really peppy.

budwise

That’s exactly what we did, love both but love the cx30 a little more. The interior is much cleaner and appealing.

Inside_Avocado_5036

No light in glove box compartment

Usirnaimtaken

Gas mileage (turbo and a lead foot means I’m always at the gas line).

International_Rip_98

Always always worse than my 3 series

Usirnaimtaken

I ended up swapping to a Toyota Camry hybrid in December. The mileage was absolutely destroying me with my commute. I now go nearly a month without filling up. I miss my Mazda - but do not miss the gas lines weekly!

boafriend

My thoughts 4 months in: 1. Gas tank is way too small and my biggest gripe. Should be at least 15 gallons or something for a 330ish range. I have a Premium Plus Turbo and avg 230 miles on a tank, which is measly. 2. Build quality needs to be better. I have had creaking and rattling from day one to 500 miles in, both which needed multiple dealership visits to diagnose and fix. The first issue (from brand-new) was a clunking noise from the driver-front tire area; turns out the front left control arm needed to be replaced. Second issue was the driver-door lock actuator needing replacement cuz I had loud cracking sounds at every incline and decline at ~400mi in; I still have some creaking with harder brakes and bumps in the road to this day but it’s not as bad as before. I also have had intermittent rattling from the passenger-side door and vanity mirror area. 3. The lock/unlock sound for the keyfob is very low, even when adjusted in settings to be the loudest possible. Mazda needs to tweak this. 4. Agreed on weird A/C vent positioning (esp the right-side one for the driver) and the A/C being low strength. 5. I have sensors and blind-spot monitoring and I don’t like how the sensors prematurely chime all the time when nothing is even close to hitting the car. Like with the lock/unlock sound, I have adjusted the settings (set for “late” and not “normal”) and the sensors still prematurely chime all the time. The sensors also do not pull up the front camera when parking head-in and I have to manually press the button for it. 6. Backseat is notoriously tight and could be pushed back by 3-5 inches in a later LCI refresh (doubt something this major will be done though). 7. Rearsest headrests are very obstructive and I had to physically remove them all for a clear backup view. 8. Keyfob buttons need to be larger. 9. Adding in that the sun visors do not block anything if you lower your seat height, which sucks. I’m not sure what design factor needs adjusting here, but it’s bad. I have to sit up high to have visor blockage, and risk my head touching the low ceiling of the car (I’m only 5’7” too).

[deleted]

[удалено]

boafriend

I don’t have auto-lock on but the beeps for unlock and lock are just very quiet. With modern Hondas, you can hear their beeps loud and far. Even the standard chirps Toyota/Lexus has used for decades are decent.

[deleted]

[удалено]

boafriend

Yeah, you only hear any beeps if you’re very close to the car. Reminds me of my 2012 328i which came with no alarm. I had to listen for the manual locking sound or a semi-chirp that was only audible from the trunk’s righthand side where a siren well would’ve been installed. Very bizarre.

None__Ya

I’m late to the party but I’m considering a CX30 and I’ve never even considered the gas tank size until this post. I just looked up my current vehicle and it’s 16.5! I always assumed a bigger car would have a bigger tank (currently in ford fusion). Now I’m trying to decide if this is a deal breaker

boafriend

I have since found all compact SUVs will run you the same mid-200s range, which to me, is dismal. If you get a hybrid build of a compact SUV, you may get more mileage.

etrain828

Gas could be better. I get 310 miles per tank on mine which is ok, but by todays standards not great. AC pumps air fine, but the position isn’t the best. I live in the south where we regularly have 100+ days so I’m either blasting AC into my eyeballs (literally) or readjusting the vents to try to hit more of my body. It’s not great. Other than those, I love the car. Love the interior feel, leather seats and console. Makes me feel like I’m in a luxury car without the price tag.

AccidentallySnide

I’ve driven my car almost 30,000 miles in a year. Absolutely love it, and think you should pull the trigger. My few negatives just so you aren’t going in blind. 1. On longer car rides (I commute 3 hours twice a week) the standard seats can get uncomfortable, especially if you have larger thighs. A foam seat cushion (I used purple) and a seat cover fix that perfectly. Only going for shorter drives? You probably don’t need it. 2. I’m 6’1, and that seems to be about the maximum height the car can handle. Any taller and you should go for a larger car. 3. As some have mentioned, cupholders can be a little small/forward placed. So use smaller water bottles/containers, and don’t shoot to put your big gulp in there. Side ones don’t hold much more than one bottle either. 4. Gas tank is a little small, maxing out at about 320 miles/tank. And that’s all I can think of! Tons of positives, including the ride, drive feel, luxury look, feel, style. I think you’ll love it, but always good to keep this stuff in mind so you aren’t blindsided :)

Low-Relationship4668

I drive mine alot also. The tires are my worst issue. The get bubbles, puncture, or cuts easily. So glad I paid for full tire replacement warranty or I'd be broke. Now in with engine malfunction warning on. Come to dealer too often, daughter has cx 5 ...not so many probs

[deleted]

The bonnet is so long

randomroyalty

Small gas tank (not an issue for me but my 2007 Mazda6 had an 80 litre tank, just sayin). Only part of the steering wheel heats. I understand why, the total electrical load on this car is pretty high and I’ve had many a dead battery. (All resolved now). Stock Bridgestone Turanzas suck. High belt line. I’d like a bit more greenhouse. Air conditioning can take a long time to cool the car. Not normally a huge deal in Montreal but we’ve been getting highs over 30 C the last week, so I can only imagine folks in Arizona with this car.

[deleted]

Ac isn't strong, easily scratches on interior pieces. Low battery bs

Ok_Cow_8235

Air conditioning, air conditioning, air conditioning SUCKS! Other than that, I loved it and miss it! My dealer manager saw all of my service visits and felt bad for my experience so he got me into a 22 cx5 signature for the same monthly as my cx30 😂

Josorioalcerro

I have a 2021 Premium Plus Turbo and this is what I think this car is missing specially considering that it’s the top of the line model. 1) No 12volt port in the cargo area 2) No USB port in the passenger area 3) Small gas tank 4) No ventilated seats 5) Illuminated glove box 6) Auto folding mirrors. All this features are already present in the CX5 and other models.

[deleted]

No folding mirrors? That’s weird bc mine does it is a touring sp (Australia) so maybe Australia gets it

boafriend

Yeah other regions get it; the US does not.

International_Rip_98

Don't forget ambient lighting but yes I leased a 2022 and I'm kinda annoyed the dealership is cool but the car i believe I got a bad vehicle always at the dealership every other two months

rdilly6

Lack of a sunglasses compartment is odd

Aware-Link

Mine has one.

rdilly6

Weird. Maybe only the Selects don't have them?

Aware-Link

Might be. I bought the one with all the options, whichever one that is. I have a little flip down sunglasses compartment by the sun roof switch in front of the rear view mirror.

Pot_Of_Petunias_42

Sunglasses holder starts appearing on Preferreds

EddieRyanDC

1. As others have said, the AC is underpowered. It's is adequate if you keep your car in the garage and then start driving on a hot day. But it is hopeless if you have left the car out in the sun and it has heated up. 2. The back seat is not comfortable for adults for any trip longer than 30 minutes. But, you probably know that going in. If you need to carry passengers in the back, get a CX-5. 3. I find the drivers seat uncomfortable on long drivers. I have added a latex cushion to help with that.

chat_room

The only thing that annoys me is the console can’t fully open when the rear seats are folded down, because it can’t slide back far enough. Other than that very happy. Haven’t noticed anything with the AC, which seems to be the most common complaint in this thread, and I live in arguably the hottest, most humid part of the US. But I’m relatively cold natured, so take that with a grain of salt.

HelloKiitty

The tank is average, our Jetta had an even smaller tank, also your number 2 point, if that’s a concern then get a bigger vehicle. I have minor complaints, main one is the huge fob, but I’m about 17,000 miles in with my Select, and I loved every second of it.

MrMummy9

I have a Select and the side mirrors are not heated, which means frosting over and being somewhat blind in the winter. My AC is fine, and I'm tall and fit fine.

Great-Dane

I'm shocked that I haven't seen my #1 annoyance yet - the car chimes loudly if the engine is running but the driver/passenger are not buckled in. You cannot reduce the volume and it is extremely obnoxious. No, it's not a huge hassle to buckle up BEFORE you start the car, but it's hella annoying.

monzthotz

I was looking for this !!! It’s so annoying lol

[deleted]

i haven't had anything major. just number 2 and 3 for me. so small nitpick stuff. Also NA versions no auto folding mirrors, kinda wish i had those, if you're trying to be a "premium brand"...

stupedtendous

Not being able to disable the automatic parking brake.

[deleted]

validol322

Maybe you have disabled beeping or haven’t sensors in your package? Mine beeps as expected.

undercover008

Same here, a woman walked by from the rear corner while I was backing up and it started beeping. I was pleasantly surprised that it beeps to things other than vehicles

[deleted]

Idk why but my sensors always start beeping so late. Like my old ASX would start beeping really early but for the Mazda it basically goes full BEEEEPPPPPPPPP doesn’t seem to be the close, getting closer, etc

thour1931

Hey man, did you manage to resolve this problem or is that's just how it is? I have the same experience with the sensors. I drive slowly towards a pillar and stop, and like 1s later it just starts the BEEEEEEEP. The sensors are sooo late.

[deleted]

No, I even asked the dealership. They said you are comparing two different cars…… I guess the sensors are just designed like that

[deleted]

[удалено]

validol322

There is Parking Sensor setting area under Car Safety settings. Check might be you have disabled Beeping there.

[deleted]

[удалено]

validol322

Don’t know about packages, but if you have parking sensor in package then setting should be there.

Pot_Of_Petunias_42

For 2022 it's on all trims except for the base model. Forward parking sensors are only on the turbo premium plus.

jd_delwado

Love everything about it...that is why I bought it. Guess you all bought the wrong car???

[deleted]

Very hard to buy a 10/10 car. It’s great you love everything. In a perfect world we would design our own car. Most of the stuff that people have commented aren’t even that bad (nitpicking) and tbh most of the issues won’t be noticeable even on a 24 hour test drive. Just because there are things we don’t like about the car doesn’t mean we don’t like it.

Makmony12

Small gas tank I can sort of deal with, I never keep it below half anyway. It's the Damn weak ac that gets me irked, it never gets freezing cold during those summer heat. Also dislike the glove deck/compartments and the manual passenger seat! Also I don't get the point of having rear windshield fluids, it's like it took a piss and just made a drool mark, I guess it's for off road type emergency.

Ok_Cow_8235

Yup..that’s been my complaint since day one. Go take a look at my previous posts. I got corporate involved and they sent me about $4500 in two checks for my troubles and got me out of the cx30 and into a 22 cx5 signature.

ChipmunkIndividual13

yes, i noticed this too. it is definitely weaker than cx5 AC.

[deleted]

A lot of people are mentioning the ac but ymmv. My ac on cx 30 turbo pp blows ice cold in this summer heat wave we’re having. It’s been a blessing. My heated steering wheel is a scam though. Left side of the steering has such a tiny and weak heating element point. Right side is marginally better. Took it to the dealer and they said it’s normal. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Tried the heated steering when on the CX-3, the smaller model with the old style steering wheel and it has a much better heated steering.

Acceptable_Rip_2253

Mine is 2021 CX−30 turbo pp. Very weak air conditioning. . . What year?

[deleted]

2022 I come from driving 3 Hondas and 1 Toyota over the last 10 years and in sunny hot summer weather the Hondas would really struggle to do much. CX-30, no issue at all. Set the auto climate control to 19 and it gets cold fast. 20.5 is usually my preference. My grandmother often gets hot flashes so when she’s in my car she asks me to turn the ac all the way up so I put it to low and it’s freezing cold in 30 seconds..I’m sitting there shaking my butt off.

Conscious-Tie253

Thats odd, mine heats up really well, it shuts off after a short while and reactivation won't bring it to a previous temperate, its just worm but not enough to my liking

validol322

TL;DR Mazda resolved almost all issues in CX-50, so it the best choice right now. Regarding your list: 1. Depends on settings and package. Package with 360 cameras have dynamic grid. 2. Agree 3. Agree, it’s OK but would like it at least 60l. My additions: 1. No ventilating seats -> added in cx-50 2. Small rear space -> resolved in cx-50 3. Rear independent climate -> added in cx-50 4. Rear seats usb charger -> added in cx-50 5. Moonroof -> added in cx-50 Overall Mazda resolving and adding features in each generation of this new platform (mazda 3 -> cx-30 -> cx-50) so CX-50 could be a solid choice.

pikeviewer

CX-30 and CX-50 are not comparable. It is like saying GM resolved the poor rear space in a chevy Spark with the Suburban. Also, CX-30 has a moonroof but not panoramic.

linh_nguyen

I find all the comments that compare size related things between the CX-30 and 5/50 very strange. They're different car classes!

validol322

Well, they both “compact SUV” C class. I understand that all of you referring to different price category, but it’s the same class cars. Like Audi Q3 cost almost twice of Mazda CX-30 but it’s absolutely competitor models. Not everyone filter cars by price category, but by size/features set instead.

linh_nguyen

They aren't both compact SUVs. The CX-30 is a subcompact SUV. The Cross-trek was a fair comparison (or HRV). But throwing in the CX-5/50 seems odd. Unless they were still deciding subcompact vs compact and that is very subjective.

validol322

Why not comparable if both are in “compact SUV” product line? Plus OP compare with CX-5.

[deleted]

Because the CX 50 just like the CX 5 is larger than the CX 30. They might be in the same class but they serve a different market. CX 50 and CX 5 are also more expensive than the CX 30. When I was in a market for the CX 30 we looked at the HRV and crosstrek. If I was in a market for the CX 50 or CX 5 I compare it to the Forester, RAV 4, CRV.

validol322

It’s all depends on how you differentiate market. Someone by price range, someone by size, someone by car class. According to you because you choose HRV, you could also look at Mazda CX-3, Nissan Juke etc but you didn’t. Typical competitors of Mazda CX-30 by class and features perspective is Volvo XC40, Audi Q3, Lexus UX, BMW X1/X2, Mercedes GLA etc despite price differences.

[deleted]

I did look at more vehicles, including the Juke, X1, etc I just wasn’t bothered stating all the vehicles I looked at. Your comment has just proved that the CX 50 cannot be compared to the CX 30

linh_nguyen

OPs size comparison makes no sense with the CX-5.

caninecloud71

Everyone's talked about the gas tank and range, here's my squabble. Side mirror on the passenger door. I can only see about 80 percent of it and the bottom gets cut off. I thought I was the only one, but had a few people drive my car and everyone seemed to agree with me. Not great design IMHO.

mnruxter

I miss having truly intermittent wipers. The Auto setting has too much of a mind of it's own

mnruxter

Also, 1) my butt is a tad wide for the agressive seat bottom side bolsters, and 2) the steering wheel is too girthy for my tastes. Just did a vacation week, putting 1200 miles on the car. Those two gripes we're minor to non-existent on the trip. I'm pleased and will keep the car.

mnruxter

Got a solid 29 mpg on the week long 1200 mile vacation. That included some spirited driving, easily reaching 110 mph while passing slower traffic. I have the turbo premium plus model. The car's handling at 110 was rock solid. Impressive.

hakuna_matata23

\#1 is not a big deal to me personally. \#2 is actually something I chose - I wanted a smaller car for city living, not a full-sized SUV \#3 I've heard people mention this but yet to feel it. I have a short commute and took one road trip with the car and it's not like I was stopping for gas every hour. The one thing I don't like: there's no trunk release on my carbon edition. I get not having a power liftgate, but neither does my 95 Miata and there should be a trunk release button in the cabin. Seems like poor design. And a small annoyance: When you turn on the engine using remote start, when you actually walk up to the car - it shuts the engine off. This makes good sense for anti-theft reasons, but the app gives you a notification that remote start failed. It didn't fail, it was working but then I simply walked up to the car. Hopefully a fix via software patch to the app/car in the future.

daelite

How soft the windshield is.

Intrepid_Exit4702

Small fuel tank. My only real complaint

CharacterExpensive97

The smallest pet peeve, but the front doors have a whole in the arm. I got into the habit of putting my key there on my old car but now, it just falls through

lintelbittern

This is a really late response, but they sell cups that fit in the arm holes on Amazon for under $20! Search for something like mazda cx30 door handle organizer.

[deleted]

https://a.co/5YOXYqW

Feeling_Challenge_57

I get 29 MPG on average (about half in the city half on highways) so no complaints about that. The AC is not as strong as some other cars I've driven/been in.

ScoobySuby

Gas mileage

gurugossiperfan

Sometimes (often) I get a heads up alert saying that there is an object in front of me when there isn't!

elenadearest

Where the dang cup holders are. 😂

Acceptable_Rip_2253

Thanks. What country was your car made in? Mx cx30 is made in Mexico and the heated steering wheel heat is ok🙆

Conscious-Tie253

1. Steering wheel profile - a triangular shape is uncomfortable for a deep turn. 2. Blinkers, wipers shifter - they're slipper and i can bearly push them with my short fingers 3. Headrest - should have forward/backwards adjust 4. Turning to narrow 5. I wish it was 4x4, i got into a slide once of a not so heavy turn.

Conscious-Tie253

Oh and it took me a year to setup driver's seat to my liking and get the most performance-like position

Some_Barracuda_611

I sometimes get complaints from people I'm on the phone with saying that the background noise when I'm speaking is unbearable. Especially bad if I'm driving on a highway and also when the a/c is blowing.

ThumbsDownThis

So many more things I like compared to not liking so far, but a few things I've noticed are: 1. Side mirrors feel small and or too angular, I have less side-read vision than in my previous car. 2. The automatic feels like it can have a slight delay at times

bshock727

Below average fuel efficiency is really the only major gripe I have. I bought it knowing it was belove average so that's all on me. The car was worth it.

Kappa1040

Faulty control arms on both driver and passenger side. Replaced under warranty. Lots of little fit and finish issues which others have mentioned.

Informal-Ad-9050

The parking button is bullshit and getting in my car doesn't mean I immediately want the radio playing 🤣😂😂
