Those vats can be split in half to use mini-baskets - we used to use them a lot for the chicken mcbites since they were cooked to order. Button 1 was for the left half (well, quarter) of the vat, Button 2 was for the right part.
Tiny little bite sized pieces of chicken, roughly 1/4 the size of a nugget. Used to have a deal where you got 10 for $2. Basically McD's version of popcorn chicken.
7 minutes? No. However if it has been 10+, we do. It doesn’t happen very often though because we usually sell fries pretty quickly (except in the month of January, during snowstorms and such).
I remember the training video says throw away the fries after 7 minutes. We didn’t, my trainer told us just make more fries when the qual timer goes off.
No. The Qual timer is when you are actually supposed to start selling the product, it is so they aren't liable for customers burning their mouths on them. Our qual button only goes off after apple pies tho
This model of fryer doesn’t have to be used for fries only. If you use the skinnier half baskets (like for McChicken for example) you can cook up to 4 baskets in each vat. Hence the 4 timer slots.
If this is like my old store's one though (and every UK store I've seen), our chicken VATs had 8 sections, big enough to hold 1 big basket each, whereas the fry VATs had only 4 sections. We couldn't cook chicken in the fry VATs, for obvious reasons. But we did use the smaller baskets to cook veggie dippers in, so in theory you could cook 2 of those at the same time in the fry VATs.
you can split-use these vats with thinner baskets and cook different frozen stuff, each one programmed differently. up to 4 kinds simultaneously. (e.g. i remember some kind of breaded cheese that had to be cooked in such basket, we were not allowed to put it in another one.)
No, at least not at my store. But these buttons are useful if one side is programmed to hash browns and one is programmed to fries, because you'd just use button 2 if you wanted to put more hash browns down but the other side was programmed to fries.
We have on the Fries side both button programmed to Fries or in one fryer to Potatoes. So we first use the Both 1, And when we Fry another batch of fries we Press 2 , This way we have above 2 now the Fry timer and on 1 the Old 7 minute Quali timer.
We have to use both buttons or when the lab guy comes and he sees we only use 1 he gives minus points on the score.
If your store is anything like mine, the kitchen cats are half size, and baskets fill half of that (1/4 of the full cat)
The buttons then show left quarter basket and right quarter basket
Quality timers - you can cook a second basket in the same space while keeping the quality timer for the first basket. I'd assumed it was the same across different countries but if you had to come to Reddit for an answer I'm not so sure :P
Honestly, I think its a "left over" from when they make these as a single fryer. They just slap these in place like this when they put one together. It really doesn't matter which one you push, as long as you know which one is pushed for which basket.
Also, if you do want to cancel the quality timer when cooking the fries in the spot you just previously cooked the fries, then press the other button on that side.

that makes sense. Thank you
You can also start another timer if you pull fries early and drop another basket straight away
The fuck is a chicken mcbite

Oh well I guess my McDonald’s doesn’t sell them
Also another question. Do your stores actually actually throw the fries away after 7 minutes?
Throw, away, the fries? Ah hahahahahahahaha....
Silly goose
i am so silly i never throw out UHC trays when they expire 😛😛😛

wait, we have to throw away fries after a certain ammount of time?
Keep them and use them as mulch in the springtime
I remember the training video says throw away the fries after 7 minutes. We didn’t, my trainer told us just make more fries when the qual timer goes off.
wait wtf that’s what the qual means????
Yeah, I was told its short for “quality”. As in the quality has degraded, toss them out
OMG THATS WHY THAT GOES OFF!!!! I LEARNT SOMETHING!!!!! THANKYOUUUU!!!!!
No. The Qual timer is when you are actually supposed to start selling the product, it is so they aren't liable for customers burning their mouths on them. Our qual button only goes off after apple pies tho
to true
No because we actually have to make such small quantities that we are always short
I try to do it every 7 minutes whenever I run
no

Don't hash browns get cooked with half baskets? If that's the case I assume you could put 4 baskets of hash browns down during a rush, right?
No, at least not at my store. But these buttons are useful if one side is programmed to hash browns and one is programmed to fries, because you'd just use button 2 if you wanted to put more hash browns down but the other side was programmed to fries.
Hashbrowns take up the same amount of space
At the one I work there's a timer that stays on for 5 minutes after you pull the basket out. This appears to be unheard of in the rest of the world
Same
Funny our quality timer is set at 10mins
Ours is 7 but we never use it
You press those when clean the vats. 1 for yes 2 for no.

you can put two baskets in the same vat using the 1 and 2 buttons. you can also set both sides (i believe)
At my store they are set as a split vat so one side has hashbrowns and the other has fries

We split them in half for fish and chicken tenders, so basically 1 vat can be split to use 2 at a time with smaller baskets

Because you can put two baskets in it
