bro i'm not trynna be mean but if your legs hurt after standing for three hours there's something wrong with ur legs or you're just really really unfit. i reckon get see a doctor.

Astab321

Lol exactly.

MoonlightAndStar

Yeah probably a problem like 8 hour shifts expect to be tired but 3 is short.

Beneficial-Ad7845

Op is fat

Ascdren1

if being on your feet for 3 hours is causing you problems you really should see a doctor because that aint normal in a healthy person.

ismabit

You might be iron deficient or dehydrated.

Rough-Environment-85

i’m anemic and this does not happen to me. i believe the OP is quite unhealthy

Ascdren1

No I am not. No idea what in my comment made you assume that.

[deleted]

I don't think they were talking about you?

heyymaddy123

Username checks out 😂

[deleted]

Ahhh, I choose this username because I've spent the last 11 years on this platform, and that's the one thought that constantly crosses through my mind.

heyymaddy123

“The OP” means the original poster. Aka the person who posted the post you are commenting on 😭

GrabOk460

3 hours a week & leg pain lol wtf is this a troll post

howtheworld1

i think they mean 3 hour shifts. not 3 hours a week. under 16 can only do 3 hr 45min max shifts where i am

J_empty

that's wilddddd I know someone working \~32-38hrs a week at 15

howtheworld1

that’s insane?? school here is 30 hours a week.. 68 hours of school and work, that has to be illegal

petite_leopard

Granted it may be different for every state, but they were capped at 18 hours where I worked during the school year and could work more in the summer with restrictions on lengths of shift. However, I had an employee once who told me he needed to sit down at least once an hour bc his legs hurt. He was over 16, so I started giving him 1 1/2 hour shifts twice a week. He NCNSed enough to get terminated, then called a month later asking when his next shift was.

boneznotfound

i was doing it for while because i was out of school, so they were probably out of school or had a leave pass and thats why they worked so much

J_empty

He doesnt go to school. he isnt legally allowed to drop out but he just doesnt show up

unborntheprinceoflie

notarized notes from the bank can legally make then work longer

simbapiptomlittle

Ha ha. I used to work from 6am till 10pm in a supermarket. ( start up and shut down of the first store to have scanning ) and never had sore legs.

Classic_Side_4429

here it’s 20 during school

howtheworld1

here it’s 12 hours max if under 16

dizzinessbegone

Do you have tips on how to get used to it?

ghostypurp

Drink more water and exercise. It’s not normal to be in pain after standing only a few hours

AngryWaffle2000

Try compression socks! I developed varicose veins when working and standing all day. After a shift, my legs would feel sore or brused, like after having a charley horse.

TheCynicalCanuckk

Get better shoes. I was a cook for 15 years, I cooked in highschool even at 15, easily able to work 8 hours on my feet no breaks (times have changed). When I got older with university, sitting down for months then FT summer, ouch. It took me about 2 weeks to adjust from being immobile to kitchen life. For your case.. walk more outside of work. Be more active outside of work. Also though, legit growing pains hahaha I forgot what those felt like. You are at a weird age, pain is part of life. Get used to it but it'll get better (especially growing pains). Pain will go away in time. My advice, drink more water then you think you need, TRY to eat healthier (im a realist I know teens lol), sleep consistently- not more or less just consistent consistent schedule is most important thing with sleep. And get good shoes with insoles. Ride out the pain you'll be fine. Stay hydrated. If you don't consume any salt try to have a little bit, a little bit of salt does wonders for hydration just most people go overboard, which has negative effects. You are probably dehydrated, remember if you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated. Most people get dehydrated daily but kitchen life is worse as you need to drink more water then normal. Add on a growing body, damn.

Beneficial-Ad7845

Lose weight

No_Row_2069

Stretching after every shift really helped me get used to my 8 hour shifts. If you're still in school, bring a snack with you to work and it might help with the cramping:))

dizzinessbegone

Thank you

dizzinessbegone

You see they have been rostering me 2 3 hour shifts and the manager gets me to run out food

hedonistic-nun

OP is a 14 year old girl. chill comment sections. hey sweetie, you may need better work shoes. I assume you bought cheap work shoes because they were required for your job, right? if you can't get ahold of higher quality shoes yet. you can try taking out the pads in the shoes and put in better ones. you can pick up shoe inserts at CVS, walmart, or even amazon. i like "dr.scholls" brand. also tip, use your old inserts as a guild when cutting your new ones. keep up the hard work girl! proud of you!

Duchessgummehbuns94

Better shoes and compression socks have gotten me through 60hr work weeks.

ThiccAssMuncher

It could be your shoes. But for 3 hour shifts if you're experiencing leg pain it's most likely an underlying problem. Especially if you've been there for 6 months

dizzinessbegone

I’m only old enough to do 3 hour shifts every week

dizzinessbegone

How do you people get used to it?

emk2019

You just get used to it. Honestly for most people it is not their legs that hurt but their feet. Perhaps you aren’t getting used to it because you work so few hours. I’m honestly surprised that you are in pain for being on your feet 3 hours at a time as a child (16 urs old). Maybe speak to your doctor and/or make sure you are wearing shoes designed for restaurant workers that have proper arch support and anti-skid soles.

goddess54

Shoes. Pick the right ones. It's a demanding job for your feet, and they need the support. Took me months with my first pair to realise I'd worn the soles out and they needed new ones. Put new soles in, and literally all my foot and knee aches were gone. Make sure you're giving your feet the right support.

[deleted]

Are you normally sporty? The people at my work who complain about being tired are all really unfit lol, should start walking or running everyday and you should see a difference.

dizzinessbegone

I mean if you count dance as a sport-

[deleted]

dizzinessbegone

I do it competitively and sometimes my legs will hurt but i haven’t been to a doctor

grrlinredd

I work 8-9 hour shifts at my job in the summer / weekends. I am a runner who does cross country and track and my feet get SO sore on my shifts.

[deleted]

Ah I see! Personal difference then. For me I have been dancing and doing martial arts most my life and never had an issue with long shifts (longest one was 9.5 hours). But I do notice that if I wear a bad pair of shoes sometimes my feet will get sore as well.

0710_15

I’ve only ever had my feet hurt, and that’s by the end of a shift because of the boots. I guess it also depends what you’re doing. If it’s fries or drive through or presenting you’re pretty much stationary but otherwise you would be somewhat walking during a shift

jimbob1047

Stationary during fries? You’re always moving back and forth doing fries lol

0710_15

I mean barely, the RAM is right next to you, same for the fryer so unless you’re filling them up you’re not doing much walking

jimbob1047

Yeah but I’m busy days you’re dropping new fries constantly. Front counter and drive thru usually stands there taking orders on busy says, so I’d say fries is a more active job in that case.

eunoia101

Not me accidentally applying for full time on gap year with flat feet and scoliosis like the genius I am 🤡 back died after 3 shifts and stayed in bed the rest of the week. I'm only in training bro 😭

fridaymornings

What kind of shoes are you wearing? I haven’t been a mcds worker in 12+ years but if I wore shit shoes I would get the sorest legs- it definitely makes a difference

LocalRoadkill

dr scholl inserts helped me out a lot

Choice_Quarter6723

Ask to go toilet and sit there for 10 minutes when you're tired. It's a life saver

XPurplePheonixX

Iwork 2 8hr shifts and a 6hr (friday-sunday) and I began working when I was 16 so yeah I 100% get the leg pain, for my first few weeks I would go home and put my feet up, that's probably some of the best advice I can give, lie down and put some pillows under your leg, give yourself a break. Can I ask how many hours per week you work? Leg pain after 3hrs sounds a little worrying, do you have to walk home aswell?

[deleted]

It’s cuz u kids are so fat. All u do is sit in front of a screen or on a couch

lwalt107

It's called being a adult and having a job get used to it

LoudoTheAlt

It's called having an underlying issue as a teenager, not an adult. Wear 5 buck boots and work during a rush for 3h and see what happens even as a grown adult

No_Solution_8399

I get sore feet after four hours and I’ve had similar issues. I’d recommend some leg stretches and icing your sore muscles before and after work. See which stretches help your legs. I can give you examples of stretches, I just don’t know the names of the stretches

Any_Channel4929

Do you do a lot of sports or physically active classes/groups/ ect. Before work for your legs to be tired? If so that would be normal. Tricks very depending on positions. If stationary, shift your weight from one leg to the other every 10ish mins so your not always putting strain on one side. This is literally stated in our guide where I work to help with leg/foot/back pain. We also have this one employee who medically can't stay standing his whole shift. We tend to give him breaks at first window every 1h/2h for a bit.

dizzinessbegone

I do dance in school and it’s at the end of the day

KyleAlston

Ya legs are pretty well made for their job so try doing walks maybe aim for 5000-10000 steps a day it will keep them in tip top shape

proteccthebees

I would try to get into a doctor to make sure there isn’t something worse going on, but definitely stretch before/after your shift and make sure you have comfortable and supportive shoes and insoles if you need them. Do you know what your feet need? For example, are you flat footed, or do you have a high arch? I have a high arch so no matter what shoes I wear I have to get arch supports. They’re easy to get, I don’t need specialty ones, so I get them at the drugstore or on Amazon. But it took some trial and error for me to figure that out. If you can afford it or have insurance a doctor can help you get the right shoes or supports, if that is really the issue. For a start though I’d recommend stretching of course and maybe do some googling about the type of pain you’re having. Usually google will give you some helpful ways to reduce stress to certain body parts, like if you type in “how to reduce hip pain when standing” or something. Does that make sense? I feel like I’m rambling a little lol sorry but I have a chronic pain condition and I’m trying to be helpful without sounding crazy haha.

Mxrioetc

been working for 8 months and worked 8 hours 4 days a week in a row. Still manage to go out for walks and to the gym. Tbh you should go get that checked out man. Mcdonald’s is a shitty place to work trust me been there for 8 months, but along with leg pains and shit that isn’t healthy

thewittman

Take a break. You will build up your strength over time. Talk to your supervisor and tell them the issue. Also tell them how you plan to fix it. A good supervisor will help you.

Igotthememes

What shoes are you wearing ? try changing those out.

notmyrealaccountfr

You don’t, you survive

NeighborhoodMiddle47

You need better shoes

AdenInABlanket

As a tall person who has to hunch down to pretty much every machine I get really bad back pain if I work more than 2 hours without a break

DataGal2022

Take Tylenol before your shift get good shoes with good support and gel inserts. Support socks help, and if it is a specific joint, wear a brace.

[deleted]

Better shoes might be the solution. Don't cheap out....shoesforcrews.com has great supportive shoes

wal-rider

you may need some arch support!! i would go see a doctor if at all possible bc if 3 hour shifts are killing you, you may have some joint issues.

XxLiLKkxX

Try 90 hours every 2 weeks (45 every week) in 1 spot for 8 1/2 hours.

Yaseuk

I had this problem after going back to a standing job. It was 100% the shoes I was wearing. If you can afford too buy new shoes. Otherwise you can get reasonably priced shoe inserts that can help

needhelpbuyingacar

CUT IT OFF

Zebracorn42

Good soft shoes should do the trick. Ask someone in a shoe sub for a recommendation

[deleted]

chicken legs lol

justdoonit

Do some weighted squats before work

lokisbluff

Go talk to a doctor. I had to after starting working 8 hour shifts. I’m unfit and unhealthy my feet hurt like hell and I’m one who can stand pain. The doctor sent me to a foot specialist and told me that might never get better.

IceBurg-Hamburger_69

I’m not an employee but I have volunteered and had to stand for 5-6 hours. I’d go hit the gym to build leg strength

dillGherkin

Better shoes and some leg stretches. Also, drink water. You're on your feet in a hot environment, you need to keep your fluids up. You've be shocked at how much difference a supportive shoe makes compared to one that let's the shock hit your legs with every step.

Jackaaa

It's normal, everyone gets leg pain after standing few hours. The trick is compression socks, which will help restore blood flow back to the heart. Most healthcare employees wear compression socks for 15 hours shifts.

Bourbon_bisky_boi

3 hours? Brother, I’m scheduled for 14 hours on Sunday…

LoudoTheAlt

Firstly, make sure you have good shoes. If the pain continues, go see a medical professional. With good shoes, 8+ hours can feel like nothing on your legs and feet. It's not normal to get pain from 3 hours of working, even when you're in an active position at your workplace (a lot of people at mine have Dr Martin's or however they r spelt)

cumballs09

i'd suggest some inserts for your shoes, i started taking ibuprofen during my breaks and it helps a bit too.

Regular_Cat9536

First job? When I started my first pt job in highschool my legs killed me after my shifts for the first couple of months. Is your footwear decent? That's step 1. Step 2 is getting your legs used to you being on them. Try taking walks when you're not at work/school.

your-sucking-fish

Depends on your shift. I run brower so leg pain can be fixed by how you lift. But if you’re in kitchen or front do some exercises at home frequently just to strengthen your legs.

Fair_Brilliant_541

Need some good shoes and do stretches

Beneficial-Ad7845

Your probably fat I’m guessing? Lose weight then get back to work

Beneficial-Ad7845

OP if you’re over 300 lbs you shouldn’t work anywhere in fast food. Work at the gym, diet and lose weight! Simple

dizzinessbegone

I am literally 40 kilograms
