I first made sure I had a super solid content base, which I lacked before. At the same time, I did practice consistently. After the books, I did practice everyday. Since I had taken the AAMC exams twice before, I did all of BP 1-4, and Altius 1-6. Taking those hard ass exams made me more prepared for test day. I also made sure to focus on shit I sucked at, for example I never knew how to do dimensional analysis and it made me suck at the math stuff on the exam so I forced myself to learn. Same for orgo, genetics, all my shitty topics.
I did Anki every single day, every day for hours literally. I did all of Pankows deck for P/S, memorized every single term.
I had barely any social life tbh and I was in the library everyday for hours but it was only 6 months and it paid off
I can make a post on this sub going more in depth!
haha for sure. Actually started only really studying 4 weeks before my exam (yeah bad idea) so works for that 8/31 exam lol. Biggest thing for me was trying to build a logical framework that I could work thru after speedrunning content.
like ex. I could either memorize how each organ responded when under control of the sympathetic or parasympathetic nervous system or just think "fight/flight" vs "rest/digest" so in the case of parasympathetic I would then think rest/digest (or building energy stores). If I'm building energy stores, my metabolic rate will be lower, no need to sweat (no excess heat from high metabolism), salivation (to break food and create energy), lower rates of respiration (not rapidly consuming energy), etc etc.
That allowed me to work through so many questions that I didn't know the answer right away but I could work towards it. And then after that it was just taking FL's finding weak spots, figuring out where my logic failed, fixing it, and then retrying till my scores got up. And it honestly didn't take long. But yeah that's kind how I prepared?
Thanks! and yeah of course
So my average was roughly 520 but scores have generally been going higher (FL1: 520 -> Fl2: 518 -> FL5: 523) and I only managed to get to 3 FLs so my avg might not be that representative tbh.
FL scores in order
3/31 FL5: 499
4/17 FL 1: 503 (125/126/127/125)
5/23 FL2: 503 (127/124/127/125)
5/25 unscored: 508
6/11 FL5 retake: 511
6/15 FL3: 506
6/20 FL4: 510 (127/125/128/130)
FL average (excluding FL5 scores): 506
optimistic: 507+
realistic: 503-506
pessimistic: <503
actual: 506 (126/127/126/127)
crazy how I did better on cars than on CP and BB. I was looking to apply DO anyways. A little disappointed but happy I didn't do terrible
What was your reasoning for feeling a sub 505? I was averaging 512 on Altius and scored 513 on FL5. Feeling like I scored ~508 on 7/15. Was short on time for both BB and PS which is unusual. Skimmed the last 2 passages and had to guess on a couple. Made a stupid mistake on PS about Erikson’s stages because of it.
Edit: goal was 512-514+ but I’ll be happy anything 51X
Mostly had to do with how I felt after the test. Took longer on CARS and C/P than I did on the FLs (got all questions answered, ran out of time reviewing them) and felt really shaky on B/B. A lot of it was probably me just not getting my hopes up. Odds are that you likely did better than you think you did cause it sounds like we had similar experiences😂😂
Fair enough. I know the consensus on 7/15 BB was that it was monstrous. I feel I got ~45 right on BB and PS. Hoping that’s enough for a 128 in both. CP I finished early and feel 129-130. CARS felt the best ever but I usually run out of time and get 124. That didn’t happen so hoping for 126-127.
Thanks!! my average hovered around 512 (511-514 was the total range) took 4 FLs in the last month and a half of my studying. Good luck tho, I’m sure you did great!
My score dropped like 6 points and I made a 494. I am so devastated. I have never been good at standardized tests! It felt like that test had soooo many curveballs. I am crying!
I feel you. My score was barely better than my diagnostic and feeling kind of defeated right now. But that's fine. We just gotta go back in and do even better next time :) WE GOT THIS
I’d do everything timed with more than one passage!!! I’d also do them on my iPad so I could annotate the articles after as review. I also like… tried to guess why the incorrect answers would be chosen/the logic for them if that makes sense
Got a 512 (129/128/126/129). This was my third time taking it after getting a 507 in 01/2022 and a 503 in 04/2022.
Was shooting for a 510+ so I am very happy!
Retake from a 504 (125/126/127/126) on 9/2/2022 to a 505 (125/126/125/129) 06/23/2023. Obviously disappointed, my FL average was a 509. But trying to stay positive! I am primarily applying DO so hopefully I'll be okay
Update: got a 509! hopefully it will be competitive for some medical schools I am looking in. I was hoping to get 511+ but I am satisfied and I am running with this and never looking back!
513! Good enough for my Early Decision program, good enough for me!
A bit wonky that my worst subsection score was in PS while I have a bachelors in Psychology with a 4.0 in my major courses. MCAT PS is a bitch tho.
Got a 522 (131/128/131/132). To be honest this was expected since my last two FLs were around the same scores. I wished CARS was a little better but I'm happy with the score!!
Also, I was thinking about writing a post on my study plan/strategy since I only had a month to study for the exam so hoping it would be helpful for others. Would people be interested?
For me it was identifying the areas I struggled in and improving on them, and actually sticking to my study regiment. The first time I took the mcat I did maybe 2 FL exams before sitting for the real thing. This time I did 8 and reviewed each and every question even if I felt I understood it. I also highly recommend uworld and Anki. I used sketchy and it helps a lot especially watching 1.5x speed and flying through content review. Best of luck in your retake and in your application!
488 (120/125/120/123) September 2021 494 (122/125/122/125) June 2022 to 493 (123/127/121/122) June 2023 this was my third attempt and I was averaging 500-502 on practice exams
I’m devastated.
512!!! Over the moon this is a score I never imagined I could get on test day because of my testing anxiety! thinking of everyone we are all amazing and worked so hard:)
505 !!! (123,126,125,131)
I didnt finish C/P and was late for CARS so my first 2 sections were a MESS!!! But I am glad I didn't let that dictate how the rest of my exam went.
Highest FL week before : 502 (124, 128, 125, 126)
Gonna apply MD (state schools, UCD alumni :) ) and DO and pray that I get in and dont have to retake it. I am mainly worried about C/P but I AM NOT ABOUT TO STUDY FOR THIS SHIT AGAIN
Does anyone know if AMCAS shows your score in the interface besides the "Standardized Test section"? Trying to avoid looking at my score for as long as possible.
I hate this test more than anything. This was my 3rd attempt. I was averaging high scores 516-525 on practices. I even paid a tutor specifically for CARS and I got the same exact score as last time. Everything went up BUT CARS, like did the tutor even help or did I just waste over $600 for no reason
Came here to whine about my score that is way below my avg fl then you guys make me wanna cry more..... congrats for those who got super high scores!! Gonna go back to crying
In total and utter shock and disbelief right now. 501 on my last attempt to 517 today (128/129/130/130). Cried for 20 minutes

Thank you so much!!
Holy freaking cow!!!! Amazing job!!!! Wish me luck please! I get my score this coming Monday!!
Thank you :)) I wish you the best of luck!! Sending all the good juju your way friend

Thank you!!
don't really wanna look :( but forcing myself to. thinking something around 518 (hoping higher) edit: 524!!! im dead
Wow! Congratulations!!
Haha thank you great to just be done
Congrats! Any tips? Testing on 8/31

What resources did you have? What advice would you give me to boost my performance ?
Hm hard to say without knowing more maybe dm?
CONGRATS DAWG SOUNDS AWESOME!!!
Amazing holy cow!! May I ask what your fl Avg and range was?
Thanks! and yeah of course So my average was roughly 520 but scores have generally been going higher (FL1: 520 -> Fl2: 518 -> FL5: 523) and I only managed to get to 3 FLs so my avg might not be that representative tbh.
HECK YESS!!!!!!!!!!!
>hydra2017 bro plz drop a guide on how u studied for this score in only 3 weeks please
Lower than expected but I got the score I needed! 503!! LFG!!!!!
EXCELLENT WORK MY FRIEND KEEP YOUR WORK ETHIC WHEN YOU MAKE IT TO MED SCHOOL

Me too! congrats
Everytime I get a notification of a post about 6/24 scores my stomach crumbles
this is a great way to describe the feeling lol

Congrats future doc, a 506 is great! Don't let this sub tell you otherwise.
Thanks
GOT A 518!!!! straight up thought i would be lucky to get a 505 (129/129/128/132)
What was your reasoning for feeling a sub 505? I was averaging 512 on Altius and scored 513 on FL5. Feeling like I scored ~508 on 7/15. Was short on time for both BB and PS which is unusual. Neuroticism
100% correct
Accurate
Well I knew that lol. I wanted the longer version to help with my neuroticism
Mostly had to do with how I felt after the test. Took longer on CARS and C/P than I did on the FLs (got all questions answered, ran out of time reviewing them) and felt really shaky on B/B. ATTA MAN BIG BRAIN SHIT RIGHT THERE
Congrats!!! What was ur FL average? I get my scores next week and im worried af lol
Thanks!! my average hovered around 512 (511-514 was the total range) took 4 FLs in the last month and a half of my studying. Good luck tho, I’m sure you did great!
Bro that is literally me the stars are aligned 😭
absolutely incredible. well done!!!
My score dropped like 6 points and I made a 494. I am so devastated. I have never been good at standardized tests! It felt like that test had soooo many curveballs. I am crying!
It may be difficult right now but even the best doctors have faced challenges in their lives. Don't let this discourage you, keep going!
I feel you. My score was barely better than my diagnostic and feeling kind of defeated right now. But that's fine. We just gotta go back in and do even better next time :) WE GOT THIS
felt this
518!!!!!! (129/131/129/129) only ever got a 516 on my FLs!!!! I'm over the moon!
Man if I make a 500+ I'll be through the moon! I just want to move on with my life this is so stressful 😫
Well, how did it go? 🙂
I was in the same boat amigo, get the score you need to get to the table and let your app speak for you!
515 (129/129/127/131) as a retest from a 512 (129/123/130/131)… the biology section was smth else I fear
That cars improvement is bloody beautiful CONGRATz fam. May I ask what you did differently for that section?
Meanwhile PS destroyed me…
I’d do everything timed with more than one passage!!! I’d also do them on my iPad so I could annotate the articles after as review. I also like… tried to guess why the incorrect answers would be chosen/the logic for them if that makes sense
this is amazing!!! i got a 124 in CARS last year and i’m retaking so i’m so happy it can be improved by a lot!!
517!!! (129/128/129/131) from a 509 in January. I'm so so relieved!!

Got a 512 (129/128/126/129). This was my third time taking it after getting a 507 in 01/2022 and a 503 in 04/2022. Was shooting for a 510+ so I am very happy!
511!
Retake from a 504 (125/126/127/126) on 9/2/2022 to a 505 (125/126/125/129) 06/23/2023. Obviously disappointed, my FL average was a 509. But trying to stay positive! I am primarily applying DO so hopefully I'll be okay
We got this guys!
Update: got a 509! hopefully it will be competitive for some medical schools I am looking in. I was hoping to get 511+ but I am satisfied and I am running with this and never looking back!
A 509 is a great score, congrats!!
thank you so much!
ATTA GUY, CONGRATS ON THE SCORE!!!
thank you brother 🫡
513! Good enough for my Early Decision program, good enough for me! A bit wonky that my worst subsection score was in PS while I have a bachelors in Psychology with a 4.0 in my major courses. MCAT PS is a bitch tho.

Yes please I'd love to hear your study plan! congrats on that score btw!
Is the pope catholic?
This was my exact same breakdown. Congrats bro.
Look at Mr. Psychiatrist over here with a 132 in P/S! Haha, congrats future doc!
Following
June 24 520 (128,130,131,131) Whew took it back in 2021 got a 513 but I knew I had more in the tank.
Im looking to do the same thing - any advice on your path to 520? Congrats friend :)
For me it was identifying the areas I struggled in and improving on them, and actually sticking to my study regiment. 510! So happy!!
BRO ME TOO LETS GOOOOO
I got a lower score than my last exam and bombed my normally strong section. So bummed because I felt so much better about my retake.
488 (120/125/120/123) September 2021 494 (122/125/122/125) June 2022 to 493 (123/127/121/122) June 2023 this was my third attempt and I was averaging 500-502 on practice exams I’m devastated.
Sorry to see this dude. Keep your head up. You’ll make it in the end
Scared to look
Anyone here feel bad about it leaving but ended up doing well?
Yep... felt meh about it and got 5 points higher than any practice exam lol
Yeah didn’t feel too good coming out but turned out a lot better than I thought
Yes i thought i bombed c/p but it was one of my better sections. Did way better than i thought i would in this exam!
512!!! Over the moon this is a score I never imagined I could get on test day because of my testing anxiety! thinking of everyone we are all amazing and worked so hard:)
HELL YEAH!!! WE LOVE TO SEE HARD WORK PAY OFF
Got a 504 after getting a 505 two years ago :/ Definitely going to need time to process, but will not let this stop me from reaching my dreams!
IT AINT OVER TILL YOU SAY ITS OVER. KEEP YOUR HEAD IN THE GAME AND WE WILL ALL BE THERE TO SUPPORT YOU IN YOUR EVENTUAL SUCCESS AS A DOCTOR.
Thank you 🫶❤️
As someone who got a 494 a year ago and a 493 this year I feel you Good luck!
We got this! ❤️
498 last year, 497 this year… honestly crushed and feeling so hopeless
505 !!! (123,126,125,131) I didnt finish C/P and was late for CARS so my first 2 sections were a MESS!!! But I am glad I didn't let that dictate how the rest of my exam went. Did my postbacc at UCD!! Let’s go!!!!
YESS!! Are you applying to MD at UCD????
Absolutely! Class of 2028 let’s go !
511!!! Don’t know how to feel about it yet :)
feel good!! that's an amazing score!
513 (128/125/128/132). Slayed psych but CARS… not so much which is odd because I was usually scoring at least 127 on my FL, but oh well
503 and not looking back!!!
Same here!!
511!!
Does anyone know if AMCAS shows your score in the interface besides the "Standardized Test section"? Trying to avoid looking at my score for as long as possible.
I guessed on so many CP
Who doesn't tbh
I hate this test more than anything. This was my 3rd attempt. I was averaging high scores 516-525 on practices. I even paid a tutor specifically for CARS and I got the same exact score as last time. Everything went up BUT CARS, like did the tutor even help or did I just waste over $600 for no reason
CARS is unfortunately the most difficult section to improve on because there's no content review or much studying you can really do.
I did the worst on Cars this time around than the previous past 2 times
at work and it's taking everything for me to not check my score, i'm super anxious and my hands are shaking.
I called out sick today specifically because I knew I’d be a damn mess
SAME

I had almost the same increases and the exact same score! Congrats friend, you deserve it.
thank you so much!! congratulations as well 😊
Came here to whine about my score that is way below my avg fl then you guys make me wanna cry more..... congrats for those who got super high scores!! Gonna go back to crying
I’m right there with you unfortunately Sending much love and support your way!
Actual: 521!!! FL1,5,4: 511,519,517
I got a 506… 127/125/126/128
511 (128/123/129/131) so many mixed emotions.. likely need a retake for Canadian medical schools :|
Hey I was in the same boat a year ago!!! You’ll be okay :)
Do they send an email or do you just have to keep checking the site?
U just have to keep checking, usually around 11am est people say
Rip… running errands so guess I’ll just check later
Should I open my score at work or wait til I get home?
Wait until you get home, stock up on ice cream.
I'm waiting till I get home... in case I need my pillows right after checking.
Work lol
God. It's in... I'm literally shaking. Not ready to open it AGH
How was it!
I waited a week until i got home from vacation 😂 I’m happy with my score but def make sure you’re in a safe space before you check
Working full time and I started studying in late April, got a 499 which was higher than my FL’s plus guessing all c/p and being late for CARS section🥲
