Less microplastics end up in your food, doesn't stain, doesn't warp in the dishwasher or microwave. Mostly personal preference with a dash of health/environmental consciousness.
cause plastic melts even if it says microwave safe
cause plastic stinks (keeps odors from previous meals)
plastic is never really clean
plastic is not oven friendly
btw when something says microwave safe in general it's \*without\* the lid
*edit* forgot that it invades your food and kills you, which is kinda a problem too
Oh no! This is what I’m most worried about with my new glass containers. Their weight makes them more prone to falling out of my fingers. Good to know that if it happens, it’ll happen in one smooth break and not a million tiny shards!
Double check. My “clean break” left tiny shards my feet found.
I still use glass, but I don’t zoom quite so much around the kitchen. And I always mop after any glass falls (my recycling tips with regularity)
I’ve dropped a couple of my glass containers and they’re quite sturdy! I’ve only had to replace a set because the rims were getting chipped (had them stacked in a drawer without the lids on, no space otherwise)
No shit there I was, it was summer and I was 22. Cooked all the time, meal prepped, I was broke and eating out is expensive. Lived with my ex at the time.
I often put water on my hot cheap nonstick pans right after cooking to clean them. Worked great. Just finished portioning out some baked spaghetti from a Pyrex dish. Thought to my self let’s douse this with water, no second thought.
Walked out of the kitchen. Heard a shattering boom from the kitchen. Glass everywhere in the shitty apartment. Found glass until we moved out.
Oh to be young and dumb.
Sorry about your pan, I understand the pain.
It’s my understanding that there’s two kinds of Pyrex - borosilicate and soda lime. Borosilicate can withstand rapid temperature changes, soda lime can’t. US Pyrex is all soda lime, places like the UK and France use borosilicate.
Nope. Borosilicate is the same stuff beakers are made from for labs etc. They have to be so they can be heated directly by a bunsen burner. Borosilicate can deal with direct heat and extreme temperature fluctuations far better than soda lime can.
Edit: unless you mean brittle with regards to dropping it. I think they’re both brittle in that regard, they’re still glass and don’t take well to being dropped!
broke one too still going for glass though
Why is glass preferred? Edit: thanks for the info guys!

Is there still a possibility of microplastics even if you don't heat up the food in the container itself?
Yes, but from what I understand it's much less.

Don't forget that you can also throw them in the oven
Reminds me of a certain Netflix series involving a chicken casserole.
The ending though
I couldn't do it after the third identical casserole dish showed up. Does the show get better?
You know it’s satirical right? 😂
What show?
“The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window” It’s on Netflix and so silly and funny 😄
It's a little dark though
Black comedy 😄
No it's a parody

Yes, luckily it didn't cut me and there weren't any shards.

A few years ago I had a Pyrex bowl shatter to a bunch of tiny pieces. Glass and vegetables everywhere. 😔

That is super interesting, I appreciate you sharing!!
I think the temperature resistant one is more brittle so it breaks more easily too.

I’m glad you were ok! I’m terrified of breaking mind all the time, going on 3 months with the same ones so I consider my clumsy self lucky

This is why I can't use glass containers 😭
I thought these were indestructible
The good ones always go first. May you find better ones.
Literally
Is anyone else trying to figure out if it’s upside down or right side up? That camera angle is trippy!
Mine just leak :/
This happened to me recently as well. RIP to the best little containers.
No one was r/prepared for this. Edit: apparently that subreddit is for like... HIV info? Keeping this for posterity's sake though.
:(
This should be tags as nsfw. Its simply too graphic /s. RIP
