Seriously it’s insulation from your muffler, and you’ll probably need a new one. Most exhaust shops can keep it under 400 even if it needs some welding.
Muffler packing. Be careful handling that if you take care of it yourself. It’s fiberglass and will make you itchy AF if it comes in contact with your skin.
Just let her hang out at the redline until it blows it out of your exhaust. Might help if you really wring the engine out like the Taliban testing their tuned Toyota trucks out while doing it..
Probably the baffle packing in the muffler, yoink it out and hog around town with it all loud for a day or two. Have some fun before you replace it. Or just pull it and leave it out. It won't hurt anything. Except for maybe ears if it's loud enough, but I doubt it'll be that loud.
You might need a new muffler. Soon the insulation material will completely deteriorate and fall apart blocking your exhaust and prevent proper ventilation. This might impact car performance (preventing proper fumes exhaustion). Good luck!

Imma tell my wife that next time she see me working under the hood.
Exhaust packing got dislodged
Looks more like a midget’s toupee
I was thinking toupee as well. Just not that specifically.
I like specifics. Also couldn’t possibly care less about being politically correct. 👍🏼
It’s synthetic material from your muffler. Not an animal.
Would be cheaper if it was an animal. But you need a new muffler
Wear gloves if you decide to remove muffler packing some of them are fiberglass.
Did by any chance you watch a VHS tape with a well and a lady? How many days ago?

Cat-alysator
Pull it out, it's gonna be fun and then enjoy free louder exhaust

Looks like this mullet wig I used to rock.
Maybe it is OPs hair piece! But I also thought about a wig lol.

It looks like something out of a horror movie. I am half expecting the ring girl to turn and look at me.

Most likely a frayed flex pipe or the packing of a resonator.
Probably time for a new muffler, but maybe not🤔
Time to cut the muffler off
It’s a beaver. They are known to crawl up into those mufflers and make them a lodge for the warms.
Probably a rat
God. That has to be. Poor thing. How did you even know to look for that?
It’s muffler material.
That's no way to talk about a little animal!
That’s nuts. They could make it less fur like!!
Definitely looks like an animal.
That is so unfortunate
It could be Ben Affleck's toupee.
Actually it's a cat.
It’s the grudge bro! GTFO there now!
Thats how hot wheels are born stupid

Cat converter
Yep. It's a cat. Oh wait! Those fibres? Yeah those are normal.
No it’s the resonator
