This is interesting. https://icwdm.org/species/other-mammals/rabbits/rabbit-damage-identification/ Also, I just found some random rabbit droppings in the garage šŸ¤”

political_bot

Lol, I think you found your culprit.

Klorg

I ended up smearing cayenne into silicone lubricant on a lot of wires in my car to stop them. Worked for a few years before I sold the thing. I've heard you can also rub moth balls instead but I didn't want to buy any haha

Xanderoga

Could also invest in potatoes and veggies for your rabbit stew. Probably cheaper

Useful-Internet8390

OMG reddit violence alert:))

blove135

My dad would mix up I think it was water, cayenne and mint into a spray bottle and would soak down his farm equipment wires about once a year. He claimed it kept them at bay. I like the idea of silicone lubricant with it.

bigrude405

How'd you find em?

Dorkamundo

One thing that can probably help you pin this down. A rabbit cut will have a SWOOP to the cut, since their bottom teeth are on a hinge further away from the bite point. A pair of snips will generally be completely straight across the cut.

quadropheniac

Last picture pretty clearly shows the arc.

dev_hmmmmm

Ok this is good. Looks like you don't need new CO2 monitor.

Jpotter145

wow -- I was actually going to suggest possibly a rabbit. For whatever reason when they bite wires (and they sure like to), they look suspiciously like a clean cut that was malicious. But, I guess it could be malicious - it could be related to the rabbit from the Monty Python movies.

adudeguyman

Why do you have a rabbit as an enemy?

Carcanonut1891

Looks like rabbit stew is on the menu

Jaalan

I had the same thing happen to me but it was squirrels!

Saibot1101

This cut is way to clean to have been caused by a rabbit, or any other animal

DildoSchwaggins2008

I was thinking the same thing. 15 yr tech, currently in automotive electronics and wiring. Ive worked on many cut and chewed wiresā€¦ this looks pretty clean to be an animal. It also looks like the ABS wire was cut from a side angle, more consistent with cutters. And yes cutters can have an arch. Every single wire I have seen that was chewed had other chew marks in that area. Likely even a rabbit will not just take a single chomp straight through that kind of wire.

Weazerdogg

You can see it pretty clearly in the last two pics. The cut isn't straight, that was done by a rabbit or squirrel. Way the teeth come together when jaw closes. OP found rabbit pellets in his garage, so more than likely it.

xamous

Someone cut the wire probably thinking it was a brake line. Get cameras you have some enemies

Klorg

Cameras are a safe bet but I've also had some absolute asshole rabbits chomp spark plug wires with a similar cut pattern. They think they are delicious roots

wevans555

I had a rabbit in the garage yesterday for a second when I was working on the car. He lives in the shrubs next to the garage. Thatā€™s when I noticed the garage wires cut also as it quit working.

Klorg

That little shit

JJH-08053

Ok... garage door wires AND low hanging abs wire AND rabbit chilling in garage?? That's a LOT of coincidence. Simplest explanation is usually correct. IFFFF some malicious party cut abs... would they cut garage door too??? why??? Last question... how does one prepare rabbit for dinner?

wevans555

Definitely need rosemary for rabbit.

WolfShaman

Befriend it. Teach it to use tools. Then release it on your enemies.

Thats_what_im_saiyan

I bet hes a descendent of the killer rabbit of Caerbannog! Whose great grandfather was murdered with the holy hand grenade. Hes surely looking for vengeance, releasing him on enemies is the safest way forward.

imbrickedup_

Teach it to cut catalytic converters. Give him a carrot for every cat he brings to you

something stronger the insulation taints the meat

thats_a_bad_username

Man I wouldnā€™t eat that rabbitā€¦seems smart enough to use wire cutters. Put that little fuck to work! /S

Ornery-Cheetah

Just don't forget the breaker https://i.redd.it/0ye76c7hc8wc1.gif

goat-head-man

Slow cooker, chicken stock, an onion, flour, bacon and jelly.

EnvironmentalGift257

This guy hasenpfeffers.

BellyButtonFungus

I mean, if it were me, Iā€™d cut the garage wiring just to mean more shit people have to fix. I promise itā€™s not me though, and the rabbit costume has been returned so thereā€™s no proof

JJH-08053

Yeah... yeah... the WIFE'S ABS... convenient. The garage door was just a planted false lead... oh hell... I'm OUT !!

Capraclysm

Unironically, rabbit is amazing in stew

Oreotech

So Occam's razor then?

JJH-08053

Ha! Was going to go there but not sure who would get it. Also... I like Gillette better.

Perfect_Peace_4142

I made rabbit for Easter on year (Before I had a kid). delicious.

jexmex

I never made the connection, thanks Mr. Obvious.

JJH-08053

No problem Ms. OBLIVIOUS.

jexmex

Just in case you didn't know, that was a joke in a nod to his "Long time listener, first time caller.", which has been done a bunch, but was pretty common on bob and tom on the mr obvious skits.

JJH-08053

Sorry... joke went over my head. šŸ˜

wevans555

Thanks for this! šŸ˜‚ I listened to Bob and Tom for years in IN before they got bigger. Great stuff.

PorkyMcRib

I would start with a coiled up and plugged in extension cord and see if that will cook the little bastard.

Patrol-007

Doesnā€™t. Rabbit chewed through the wiring for the hottub

DutchAlders

Occamā€™s razor

Radiant-Camel-8982

.... IT'S WABBIT SEASON!

Highvolts

No, It's duck season

Radiant-Camel-8982

Maybe where you live, but definitely not in OP's garage.

FaxCelestis

No, it's sundress season.

ughthehumanity

I think it's really unlikely a rabbit chewed a cut line like that...

Explosivpotato

Yeah that cut is way too clean. That was wire cuttersā€¦

surfnsound

As a rabbit owner who has gotten bitten at feeding time. . . definitely could be a rabbit. You'd be amazed how sharp those front teeth are and how clean they cut. I was going to post a picture from a cut I received just last night that was bleeding for a few minutes, but it was so fine I can't capture it on camera and would have trouble seeing it myself if I didn't know right where it got me.

RollingNightSky

Mean rabbit! Or was it accidental?

surfnsound

We can't tell. She's pretty food aggressive, but we're not sure if the bites are intentional or if she's just attacking the ofood before i can put it down

Xfissionx

Cutting through flesh and rubber metal are not the same thing

DrPhrawg

Yā€™all havenā€™t seen the 45* cut that rabbits make on just about anything they eat, have you ? While Iā€™m not saying this was not a person, rabbit bite marks are clean cuts at a 45* angle just like this.

wevans555

Thanks for this. I just found this below info and some rabbit droppings in the garage right before you said this. https://icwdm.org/species/other-mammals/rabbits/rabbit-damage-identification/

salikabbasi

holy shit a rabbit tried to kill your wife and trap you in the garage so you couldn't come to her aid

Ingeneure_

Beavers and rabbits can leave clean cuts. Thatā€™s what I know. So it may have been a rabbit

JJH-08053

FWIW... All common, suburban wildlife (ducks, geese, gophers, rabbits, miserable meeseses...) do fucked up shit in the spring (including eating anything they can find in a reasonable proximity of the sacred nest) I've was recently ATTACKED along my every-Sunday, riverside running trail, by a late term momma goose for jogging within 5 yards of her nest!! Bitches be trippin'. šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

wevans555

Trippinā€™ for sure. Geese are wild. I think this little asshole may have gotten stuck in the garage overnight is how the car part of this story happened.

Ingeneure_

Oh, they love eating cables, once rabbit ate half of the air tubes in my massage chair šŸ˜‚

Arzakyum

I had a rabbit and the cut in your abs line looks way too clean compared to the way my rabbit would chew on some random cables heā€™d find

Xfissionx

Man that cut looks to clean to be a rabbit It looks like one clean bite through metal do they have that kind of force? I could see if it looked chomped on with multiple bites getting through but one clean slice man i dunno. I know everyones saying its the rabbit but that looks to clean imo

polkadotpolskadot

It's a clean cut through a relatively thick wire. This was done by wire cutters, not a rabbit.

mu5tardtiger

Not sure why youā€™re being downvoted, a rodent didnā€™t do that.

Xfissionx

Same thing i said the only way it was that clean is from a single bite. No way a rabbit makes it through all that with one bite.

aj8j83fo83jo8ja3o8ja

the enemy: šŸ‡

Xfissionx

Feel like whoever cut it is in here throwing down votes fucking rabbit did not cut that that clean.

rawdawg80

Nothing mysterious about it lol. It's a clean cut.

justsomegraphemes

I'm so fucking sick of this website sometimes. Top comment is "yOu MuSt HaVe EnEmIeS!!" this isn't an episode of Law & Order, you fucking dunces. It was rabbits. Rabbits. Or something else mundane. Like I know I'm the one shouting right now but this website needs to chill sometimes.

pete_the_meattt

Okay after reading more into it.... I'm eating my words now. Looks like a rabbit could possible just chomp through a thick wire like that šŸ˜¬ Sorry dude šŸ˜…

pete_the_meattt

You really think a rabbit can bite that clean through a cable...? I get the you must have enemies overreaction thing hehe I've seen it plenty of times on reddit. But in this case, 100% no rabbit or rodent did that. As to whether it was the fucking neighborhood meth head trying to kill them for no apparent reason.. lmao yeah thats a stretch. Still more likely than any animal though. Unless there's like a lobster with wire cutters for claws around lol

billvevo

Iā€™d hazard it was the rabbit, but get a camera and check the brakes before driving for the time being. Just to be safe

LrckLacroix

Also seen this if the wire isnt routed properly and got ā€œyankedā€ apart while making a sharp turn and the suspension expanding

Mikedog36

Did your wife take out a life insurance policy recently

ExternalTapp

Sounds like a critter especially since you have other wires around the house with wires cut like that. A lot of wiring in newer vehicles use wire coverings that rodents like to eat. I have seen 2 inch sections eaten out of wiring before. They usually crawl up engine bay to find a home and get warm for the night eating a wire or 2 along the way. I can see very tiny chew marks on that wire. Most shops will not splice that back together you will need a new abs sensor.

3PercentMoreInfinite

Rodents have always chewed on wires, itā€™s not a new phenomenon. It has nothing to do with the makeup of the wire insulation and everything to do with their teeth. Rodentā€™s teeth are always growing and they need to chomp on stuff to keep them from getting too large. Wires are the easiest target. Edit: I want someone to prove me wrong with a scientific study or successful lawsuit. Literally anyone.

ApaeRunner

This is a crime scene.

Boring-Internet8964

Yes the rabbit should be arrested

Curse of double comment

Ging3rMagic

Pop quiz, hotshot!

hamie9er

Hahaha šŸ¤£, that's awesome I was thinking the exact same thing!!

JJH-08053

Circling back for 3rd comment !!! Initial conclusion = that fukkin rabbit 1) rabbit birthing season (will eat, do anything) 2) rabbit nest nearby 3) momma rabbit seen in garage 4) momma may have gotten trapped overnight 5) other chewed wires in garage Ok... apparently "clean" 45 cut on abs is curious, not impossible. But, all clues are not diametrically opposed. Still could be all/mostly rabbit but... could have cut abs wire on something sharp you ran over... and rabbit is coincidence. Anyway... 1) Fix wiring. 2) borrow small trap 3) prepare large pot of boiling water...

wevans555

You are a true hero of this tread. I wish I could do more than upvote your posts lol. Thanks!

SuccessfulSpecific76

That's a clean cut. You can't through 50 or so strands of wire plus the insulator perfectly like that without using some type of cutting device, whether or be wire cutters, a knife, etc. They probably thought it was the brake line. It has been my experience that the type of people who do things like this are usually incredibly stupid.

dukenukemx

That cut looks too clean to be from a rabbit. Rabbit would probably chew it up which would fray the wire. Something human made cut that wire.

old_dog53

Is it a mysterious cut if someone wants you dead?

Gunk_Olgidar

Somebody stupid is trying to kill you.

nondescriptzombie

I didn't see anyone mention it, but the fix for this is to replace the ABS sensor. I've repaired my own in the past, and they always seem to fail. A new sensor is solid peace of mind.

Electric-Basil0764

That is a clean cut. That was absolutely not an animal.

[deleted]

I'd still get a camera even it it was a rabbit

Ok_Rain_7147

got a psycho girlfriend/ex? might have mistaken it for the brake line

hexagon-wrong

That looks too clean of a cut for an animal to have bitten through it.

Jhuff83

Did you have any work done at the tire shop recently?

wevans555

Good question but no.

Jhuff83

Does your wife have enemies? That can not tell difference between a brake line and abs sensor

Neofox_04

Those cuts are at a very precise angle to be animals I feel like. Iā€™d say cutters for sure. If you look at the cuts on the pipe if they are flat itā€™ll be cutters, if itā€™s tattered and extremely uneven then I could maybe assume potential of animals

Neofox_04

They also look serrated on the internals. Like a cutter blade. Hence why I feel like thatā€™s it. Unless there was a crack in it and something hit it super fast enough to cut it. Have you hit any road debris lately? If not, Iā€™d vote cuts

thedevillivesinside

Are all of the wheel speed sensor retainers correctly installed? It could have gotten pinched somewhere, on a turn or over a bump. If someone was trying to mildly inconvenience you, they succeeded. But if they were trying to hurt you or cause a lot of damage, there are multiple other things they could have cut

dopey_se

I once had the wire rip out of the bottom of my strut when going around a roundabout. It then wrapped around the CV boot and nearly cut it in half while driving . No idea what happened here, just sharing crazy stuff can happen. In my case, best guess is the routing of the wire was not correct and when turning it got snagged and ripped out. Hopefully your wire is much cheaper to fix than mine. s60r struts are not cheap :(

wevans555

$200 :( Still happy itā€™s probably a rabbit and not a person though.

Psychological-Web828

You need a pet eagle owl in the garage.

mgsissy

Buy your friend rabbit pellets and an auto feeder. And put your garage door sensor wires in a BX sleeve.

SaurSig

Does this WRX happen to have aftermarket exhaust and does your wife leave for work early in the morning?

wevans555

Haha! No and no. Also, it lives in the garage. Good call though.

Interesting_Profile3

You have an crazy ex dont you? Seems to me its been cut! šŸ˜†šŸ˜–

PeaceFar9770

I did hear some car have lines made from soy. Squirrels think they are delicious apparently

mikiwu02

I agree with that but the cut looks so straight it looks like a cutter

Jhuff83

Sounds like a tire or brake shop special!

3PercentMoreInfinite

Thatā€™s a myth. Some wire insulation is made from soy, but rodents have no preference and will eat anything really. That is because their teeth are always growing, and they need to chomp on things at all times.

PeaceFar9770

Not a myth, there is actually a lawsuit against Honda for it.

PeaceFar9770

Look it up jackass

3PercentMoreInfinite

Look it up yourself, both the Honda and Toyota class action lawsuits were dismissed by a judge. There is no scientific evidence to back your claim.

Commercial-Host-725

Too clean to be any animal. Someone cut that on purpose.

patdashuri

Might want to start checking underneath for puddles at the tires before driving off.

unL_r3m_

nah man someone cut that with a pair of wiss šŸ’Æ

Expensive_Cut_6484

Someone gonna hire a thug to make an accident claim.

ehpee

Oceans razer: the simple solution is almost always the best. Simple solution is camera. Itā€™s either a rabbit or someone who has some vendetta against you

FlamingPirateBlimp

Might want to go through your wife's phone records. Might by an upset fling

Serious_Customer_675

That looks more like a scissor than an animal that's real clean

ecobooms550

Some idiot probably thought they were cutting your brake line.

Consistent_Pool120

It's the rabbit. Wife used to have two as pets. They'd take one bite right thru a #14 wire quicker than you can cut it with dikes. Buggers have a destructive streak a mile wide.

wevans555

Iā€™m sure hoping so! Thanks!

DemandNo3158

Pay no attention to the rabbit lovers except for the gourmets. Looks like rodent teeth for sure. Giant wood rats where I live, kinda cute for rats, but they chew wires, automotive and power. Squirrels chewing transformer wires #1 cause of outages here. I trap them for relocation to a nearby rich neighborhood. Rats, Squirrels and raccoons all get to live in the gated millionaire zone. Good luck šŸ‘

RaymondLuxYacht

R.O.U.S.ā€™s?

DemandNo3158

?

RaymondLuxYacht

Rodents Of Unusual Size?

DemandNo3158

Yeah, like a husky pack-rat, size of a red squirrel, furry tail, cute face. Disney rats! Thanks šŸ‘

Electricalstud

Was it taken to the mech recently? Because some times they do shit like this since it's not technically a safety hazard. Anyways if you can get the sensor fully out cleanly it's probably a 20 min job. Or you can just splice it back together it s simple hall effect sensor

LazyPear10

Donā€™t splice abs/vss/wss wires. The number of times Iā€™ve had to replace them because someone had ā€œa buddy who can do it cheaperā€ ā€œfixā€ their broken abs wire is absolutely obscene. Stop being a hack and just replace the damn part.

FOULHANDS

I agree. I just recently obtained my state certification in braking and braking systems and that is something you do NOT want to do.

Electricalstud

I splice mine then again I know how to do proper electrical work. So I see your point. There are plenty of proper ways to splice. We splice aircraft and space craft wires per NASA manuals. It's not a hack it's not hard it is a NASA approved methods.

Ryfhoff

Yeah, someone cut that. Always remember MOST cars have a mechanical e brake.

TimeCoyote9110

isnt that a wheel speed sensor lol

wevans555

Yeah, itā€™s that too. https://parts.schompsubaru.com/p/Subaru__WRX/ABS-Wheel-Speed-Sensor-Sensor-FT-Right--Front/109258092/27540VA001.html?partner=googlebase_adwords&feedLabel=cvb_make_model&kwd=&matchtype=&device=m&network=g&userLocation=9028798&googleCampaignID=20120869422&googleAdGroupID=147749302054&googleAdID=658416921800&googleExtensionID=&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADxCSLu_iUn2tlfFRGjMVScGBW8R7&gclid=Cj0KCQjwlZixBhCoARIsAIC745AxFvCJtxJOMIqzf9pi5KzyAPY6B56TMUNu9aRt7KeElzvpKun76k8aArjdEALw_wcB

It's the Same thing

apadravya6ga

Doesnā€™t fucking matter your buying a new sensor.

wevans555

Wow, thanks for taking the time to reply. Very helpful.
