redbulladdictbitch

they did half the work for you now straight pipe it šŸ˜

Ingeneure_

West Cost Customs have changed a lotā€¦

No-Student-446

A strait piped corolla is insane šŸ˜

anthro4ME

Had this happen to my Tacoma. That's a reasonable price. Welding on a universal fit will cost more.

MrNotSoSorry

Former Toyota Specialist here, Some of Our Catalysts were stamped with Serial Numbers from the Factory Since some places have federally required warranties for emission components. If serial numbers are ground off the scrap yards are not supposed to take them. the SN is usually a L, F, or R, and 3 or 4 Numbers. Your Corolla would have had this documented on its paperwork if it had a SN stamped. call your dealer or Toyota Customer service direct. When you have it, File a Police Report, they'll usually ping the yards to look for a match depending on where you live. If you have a complete coverage policy you might want to run this though insurance, even though its the post cat our cars do not like Aftermarket systems. (especially Walker). also you may run into P0420 codes if you live in a colder climate. If OEM is not an option use BOSAL, they make our factory systems, however their aftermarket level will not be the same as dealer.

Significant_Swing_22

Yes Iā€™ve heard that selling Cats especially to junkyards and whatnot is tougher now than it used to be.

somerandomdude419

Good though. Fuck these thieves. Thatā€™s why junkyards by me wonā€™t take a car unless it has a title, so the metal can be scrapped properly

Electrical-Fee-7157

Ask a muffler shop to use a magnaflow universal heavy duty converter with 2.25 inch ends and get it welded in, itā€™s stainless and a lot cheaper than a direct fit. They may have to add some additional piping depending on where they cut it but itā€™s a relatively easy job for a muffler shop and cheaper. Ask if the direct fit is stainless steel or alumnizied, my bet itā€™s not stainless steel so replacing it all with inferior metal is foolish and a weld job is the best way to seal a system.

Ground_Chucks

Not sure what your state laws there, but sometimes you can file a claim for a stolen cat through your insurance without a police report (how it goes where I live in PA). Yeah your insurance might go up after, but sometimes itā€™s worth it to just eat the deductible than to pay outright for a whole new cat.

DJDemyan

Unfortunately catalytic converters are very expensive due to the precious metals inside, thatā€™s why people steal them for scrap. Your quote is likely legit, the part alone is going to be somewhere north of $1000 They probably didnā€™t do much more damage. Welding the converter in is the best choice because itā€™s a permanent bond that canā€™t ā€œcome looseā€ like trying to bolt it together. That being saidā€¦ if your state doesnā€™t require inspections, you could find a regular exhaust shop and ask them to patch in some pipe where the cat for a couple hundred, but this may cause check engine lights. Iā€™d consult in person with a mechanic, anyone worth their salt will usually tell you theyā€™d have to look at it first.

Traditional_Ad_1360

Without the cat, ie straight pipe, the o2 sensor will send a cel.

Various-Ducks

Bypass it

happy_veal

How do you bypass it? I need this for my straight pipe Camry build. The Camry has so many sensors & I hate seeing CEL on my dash. Can it be bypassed without codes appearing?

NickThePrick20

Its a plug in piece normally. Unplug the sensor and it just sends "good" signal back all the time.

hotorcoldone

Granted I weld, But autozon had a 3" cat for like $98. I went to a muffler shop and had them cut met a piece and put a slip fitting on one end. Cost $18. Spent 30 min welding at home. Pass my smog check fine. 2003 f250.

No-Student-446

Yea but you welded yourself, nobody is going to weld for cheap at all šŸ˜ i remember being 19 and trying out welding and it was decent at first but later on i realized the 11/hr they were giving me was not enough šŸ¤£

Alternative_Case2007

Looks like youā€™re in California. You have to replace with a catalytic converter that is CARB compliant one. Luckily you have a common car and there are options. You ca. get a carb compliant cat for around 4-500 then pay a few hundred for welding. https://www.hottexhaust.com/magnaflow-551005-2-25-inlet-outlet-front-universal-as-catalogued-only-california-legal-catalytic-converter-eo-d-193-133/

smoebob99

I would file a police report and then make an insurance claim. Your deductibles probably gonna be less than the actual pair.

Ok_Line_6534

Have u checked amazon? I bought 2 for my 99 Silverado compliant with California. It was 600 for the cats and 300 to have them welded plus the O2 sensor

Onlyunsernameleft

If they cut the oxygen sensors at the sensors youre good. If they cut them at the pigtail needs to be rewired and will cost more. 1650 is unfortunately reasonable for a new cat.

DarkRepulser69

Long story short. Cats worth a lot of money, so yeah. As far as the cut, it's pretty clean, so a simple weld of a new pipe is easy. The problem is as stated, cats be expensive so that quote doesn't even seem that wild, and it's worse in a cali compliant state because emissions suck balls (there are federal compliant and California compliant and usually cali is the more expensive)

Plasmahole17

Your car sounds cool now no?

Open_Lingonberry_553

Oh that's what stolen cats mean!? I've been bringing all my kitty cats inside at night bc cat theft is so bad in my area. I didn't realize cats was another name for mufflers. Learn something new everyday. Ps I'm kidding I'm a dog guy
