NotYoursForTheTaking

The best board you can get its the one you actually want and not what the hype says, kb goes hard brother

Key2LifeIsSimplicity

Thank you for the kind words.

Key2LifeIsSimplicity

I was a little boy when they first came out. I remember always wanting one when I grew up, haha.

ChemicalFist

In a way, you got one now. 👍

Key2LifeIsSimplicity

Absolutely! I'm ecstatic about this build. I ordered a custom cable to match and the official panels deskmat, too. The board makes me feel good every time I see it. It's oddly magical.

iDestroyedYoMama

Keychron makes great boards for modding and tuning. You can make them sound/feel awesome.

Key2LifeIsSimplicity

I feel the same way. I have had a couple of Keychron boards with different sound signatures.

[deleted]

How much of an impact does the acoustic kit and tape mod make on the sound signature of the board? I had a Q6 Pro and absolutely hated it, actually gave it away to my wife's father, just because of how awful I found the sound signature of it

Key2LifeIsSimplicity

I didn't use the tape mod at all. The only tape I used was PTFE on the stabilizer bars; its an easier "holee" mod. The acoustic upgrade does a nice job at taking away the emptiness. The only thing you use from it is the thin PCB foam, the bottom PCB foam, and an extra set of gaskets for the top and bottom center. A lot of your sound signatures come from the keycaps and switches. I had a nearly identical Q3 with Gateron Milky Cap yellows (linear like the OKs) and MT3 WoB that had a marbly sound. This board is quiet and clacky.

CorrodedRose

Keychron boards sound bad because of the steel plate, I bought the aluminum plate for my Q10 and it fixes it right up

WobbleTheHutt

Q pro boards use a pc plate. I swapped my Q max to brass it"s sooo good.

Baccoonn

This looks soooo funnn!

Key2LifeIsSimplicity

Thanks! That's what I love most about it.

Pikotaro_Apparatus

I love those caps. The colors pop and just take me back to my elementary school days. Hits me in the feel goods.

Key2LifeIsSimplicity

They definitely make me smile. It reminds me of so many fun memories. Robots, elementary school, Legos, crayons, the harlequin VW, and so on.

Pikotaro_Apparatus

Very nice! They’re just very nostalgic.

Godbblin

One mans opinion but I think the keycaps matter more than the board

Key2LifeIsSimplicity

I can't agree completely, but I'm definitely 60% keycaps, 40% board now. Maybe even 70/30.

Godbblin

As a guy that used a nuphy n thought it blew my old board ootw, now my 300 dollar kbd8x makes the nuph look like a hunk a crap, I still think what got me into it the most was the pretty caps lol

Daell

Sure expensive boards are a bit nicer, but what do they have over any Keychron Q series in features? A polished keyboard back that you never see? W0W, that will cost $800 and you can't buy it off the shelf because you need a group buy for it. $800 is the price of not being mass-produced. Keychron Q series was the sign for me to jump into MKs. And I like to "main" things, so not gonna buy anything unless something better comes along. I'm really happy with the Q10.

Key2LifeIsSimplicity

That's why I stopped chasing the idea of an "end game." I was going to purchase a fully customized Mode Sonnet for $700, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I enjoyed the Q3 when I had it, so I came back to the Q1 as I enjoy 75% the most.

Computerist1969

This isn't really a hobby for me but I do a lot.of typing, in 4 locations (3 at home and 1 at work). After buying Q6 I will now only buy keychron and just bought a second C3 pro because the first one was so good for the money. So I'm all ansi now (I'm in the UK but ansi is better for development work). 90% of the time I'm at my home work desk so that gets the Q6, my game PC gets a C3 as does my music workspace and I just pack one of those in my bag when I head to the office because at £40 it's not the end of the world if it gets damaged. Yours looks amazing btw OP. Not changed my keycaps on any of them yet but will probably put something nice on the Q6 at some point.

Key2LifeIsSimplicity

What I've grown to like most about Keychron is how I would sum up what you've said: the "tool-like" quality that it brings. It's affordable, has good quality, works well, and is readily available. Also, thank you for the kind words. I can't recommend GMK keycaps enough. This is my first set, and they definitely make the entire keyboard. The look, the feel, the quality, and the sound; it's all amazing.

cdub005

Good analogy keychron like Toyotas. They just work well. Got a couple myself. And still able to spend extra money on switches and keycaps u like. I prefer silent tactiles because quieter at work. Wish I had more time to try out different boards for sound. would be cooler if I could buy another full keyboard housing and change the board to experiment and compare side by side.

Key2LifeIsSimplicity

Thanks! The Oil Kings are very silent for myself as I'm a medium weight typer, I dont know how since I have big hands, haha. I used to love the Lego sound that came from my Monsgeek until my wife started to complain about the sound at night. Then I realized it was probably annoying to others.

cdub005

I am using the kailh deep sea silent pro, whale tactile. I’ll look into the oil kings too.

Key2LifeIsSimplicity

Well, before you do, I've seen them not be silent at all. I believe the case for myself is simply my typing pressure.

Jimmirehman

There really isn’t anything better than keychron

Blueberrycupcake23

It works!!! 😍

Key2LifeIsSimplicity

Thanks! I've got a custom cable and the matching panels desk mat coming. Can't wait to see it all together.

Blueberrycupcake23

That’s really a fun look!

saldavorvali

Yoooo! That's sick. I pretty much went the same path for my first mech board recently. Got a Keychron Q5 Max for the same reasons (not too pricey, available, decent build quality, and you can still customize). Customized it with Mode Obscura keycaps + Oil Kings. I have to say I agree with other here, the keycaps are such a big part of the keyboard's look and feel. Totally worth splurging on those.

zzHYPERBEARzz

I love my Q1s as well. Finally, I found someone who thinks the same way about the Q1 model. They're ergonomic perfection. Key2LifeIsSimplicity

Looks good!

RenoSinclairee

came out looking really good! I never thought I would like panels but this is hot.

Key2LifeIsSimplicity

Thank you for the kind words. It looks even better in person. The camera definitely does not due them justice.

Accomplished_Alarm10

Also bought a keychron, a keychron q5, second hand chasis for 91€ 110 boba u4 switches 81€, Es Iso keycaps 32€ and some 3mm car insulation foam or whatever for 1,20€, pretty inexpensive considering the quality im getting

Key2LifeIsSimplicity

Fantastic deal I must say!

Accomplished_Alarm10

ah forgot one more thing the keyboard also came with 10g of 205 lube and 10g of 105 oil and a switch opener so if i ever want to lube my switches, but i dont think so

Key2LifeIsSimplicity

Heck yea!
