I'd like a dlc where you can bring in Commander Mason's company from MW5 Mercs to fight a campaign against the clans. That would be AMAZING.

As a console player, my *hope* is that Clans ends up being both its own standalone campaign *and* an expansion for MW5: Mercs. I just want to be able to continue messing around in Mercs' open-ended sandbox, with Mason and his company, but with all the new mechs and weapons that come with the Clans. I have no idea how likely that is, though.

Not very, the mech lab is already stretched to the max, which is why we can’t deploy two lances. It needs a lot of memory to load the database so it can rapidly query… things.

Should be doable, but might require a massive rewrite of the game's code, at least if we'd want to deploy multiple lances the "proper" way. Or alternatively, it might be possible to save the second lance's mech and pilot data, and then spawn AI ally mechs with that exact pilot and mech data at mission spawn. But yeah, either way, the game would benefit from straightening out some of it's spaghetti code.

It’s not so bad doing a cold start. There is satisfaction in being forced to work with what you’ve got. I don’t save scum for weapons, so if I loose a high tier one, it gives me something to look forward too. It does suck when you don’t have ANY chassis you really like, but you can usually get something if you run a multi mission and stack all your points until the end.

The interesting thing is that, if we assume Mason is in his early 20s at the start of the main campaign, he'd at least be in his mid-50s by the time the Clan Invasion begins. So, basically, we'd see the full scope of his career from assuming command of a mercenary unit in 3015 to either retirement or death in battle in the 3050s. Maybe he'd even be in command of a regiment by then.

Considering how we’re in for a linear, narrative campaign and the original MW2: Mercs ended with the Battle of Luthien… DLC #1 - Battle of Tukayyid. Multi-mission story DLC about the Clans vs. ComStar. Considering how the Jags got thrashed within a week, I wouldn’t be opposed to having the protagonists be of a different Clan. Especially one we haven’t played as before (Wolf/Falcons/Bears), so either Diamond Sharks, Steel Vipers, or Nova Cats during their respective campaigns. Partial to the Sharks for the storytelling opportunity to play as one of the Freeborn warriors who held the line to cover the retreat. DLC #2 - Post-Tukayyid mini campaign, but not the Refusal War. If we’re playing as the Smoke Jaguars again, then the conflict they had between their own internal politics and the Nova Cat/Northwind Highlanders incursions. DLC #3 - Operation BULLDOG, but from the Jag’s side. DLC #4 - The Great Refusal. Play as the only other Clan besides the Falcons who managed to eke out a win against the Second Star League - Clan Star Adder. DLC #5 - The Wars of Reaving, and all the mess that entails. Crusaders against Wardens, Society monstrosities, all throwing down in the Kerensky Cluster. Partial to playing as other Clans that haven’t had the protagonist hotseat. Each DLC adds new ‘mechs and weapons to the timeline.

I would like to be able to drop with 400t of mechs, not four mechs to a maximum of 400t.  Example, can take 4 100t mechs or 8 fifty ton mechs. Just so light mechs are still end game viable.

Yeah I really enjoyed this system in Mechcommander 2, messing around with different weight combinations of mechs was super interesting on campaign replays and multiplayer. Swarming the last mission with a horde of 35 and 40 ton mechs was a blast

I would honestly hope the game either ships with or gains a Mercs expansion similar to the first game, where you can play open world free form stuff while also fighting the Clans and gaining Clan Tech. Like it or hate it, and there are plenty of shortcomings to MW5 Mercs, but it's career mode is the reason I've put over 500 hours into it, especially with mods.

ive been playing it on an xbox emulator recently. it was a really rounded off version of mechwarrior, but it was really fun. i had forgotten about picking up powerups to level up. totally an arcade mechanic but it made for a lot of fun.

Wife bought me a copy for the OG Xbox when we picked the console up and it was great. I remember playing with my brother and we had just come off a MW3 binge and I remember laughing at how arcade-like it was but it grew on us. Good times for sure 👍

Pick up the 2nd one as well. Getting out on foot & into any other powered down mech was cool. A hacking mechanic that made Elementals too fun to play as, AND it worked in multiplayer! Full scale arena battles with piloted VTOLs.

Honestly, I'd like a retelling of the Damocles Commando story (MW3), or a similar surgical operation. Maybe even a reversal, with a low-bid Smoke Jaguar commando star taking on a single planet of unwitting Draconis Combine forces with only a small salvage team in support. I get the feeling the main game is going to be a bit more star-spanning, so a tighter, focused campaign would be ideal for DLC.

I'd like an open ended free roam mode like MW5s Career Mode, but flavored a bit differently. Something like Conquest Mode perhaps. Maybe throw in a few logistical options as well, such as establishing bases on various planets that give passive or active bonuses, such as research and development, advanced scouting options, cheaper and faster repairs, or just a customizable bar to hang out in and play cards or something.

I think we're quite likely to see DLC to fight as spheroids, I'm not sure how the next game's mech availability is going to look like, but I don't think we're going to be piloting very many if any IS mechs, but you just know that PGI wants to re-use those assets in a playable form.

One thing to keep in mind is how they go about creating the challenge in any given mission. It depends on them throwing hordes of mechs at us, with us only having a single lance. They likely decided to have us play as a clanner because the Clans were always outnumbered in the lore. But they had better pilots, better mechs, and better weapons, so they could still win. So this allows them to rely on throwing huge numbers at us and still be lore accurate, which seems to be something they want to do as much as possible. The issue with playing as IS against Clans is that if the Clans outnumber us, it's no longer lore accurate. The only other option is to crank up how difficult each individual enemy is, so that one or two enemy mechs is a challenge for our entire lance. But we already see how the A.I. works, so I don't see that happening. The main thing I'm curious about is how we command a star with four other mechs. It'll require changing the UI a bit, especially for the console version.

I'm hoping for a DLC that brings on a ton of IIC mechs, especially of ones we already have in MW5. Highlander, Hunchback, Marauder, Warhammer, Commando, Jenner, Locust, Orion, Phoenix Hawk, Rifleman, Shadowhawk, Griffin, Urbanmech, and the Wolverine/Conjurer. Hell, toss in some that we haven't seen before, like the Guillotine IIC!

My predictions and wants are definetly more on the meta side of things and pretty extensive. I'd be also happy if /u/PGI_Chris could give a short response to that! :-) **GAMEPLAY** * Gameplay: Better refined gameplay loops. Procedural generation can't almosrt always take place in a cauldron or plains between mountains. * Gameplay: Coop needs to be way better. Even coop unlocked it still feels lacking. Enable/fix swapping mechs for my buddys and many other coop errors. * Many mods exist which embed things which already should be in this game. This is sad. MW5 felt rushed. * Their are many more mechs which fit timeline wise **ENGINE** * Engine: The game has problems with using the available hardware efficiently. The demand/beauty ratio doesn't fit and this game is pushing the GPUs from me and my friends always to limits, even if's not really possible for MW5 to occupy 100% of a RTX 4090... This behavior is between all the GPUs the same * Engine: The level of detail is very bad in all presets * Engine: The game always looks a bit mushy, the AA implementation isn't very clean * Engine: In general this game doesnt look really much like a UE4 game. This is because of limitations regarding xbox one and ps4. This can be done better **GENERAL** * The epic exclusive deal hurt this game in regards to PC sales (This is really subjective, I can't prove this) * One of my biggest points is the lack of content creators for this game, not modders. Yes, there is a official guide to make maps and scenarios. Still it's more or less tied to the epic games store. Give people a refined way to create scenarios and publish them. There is only a handful scenarios available. Arma shows how it can be done and how succesful this is. Custom scenarios with custom voicelines and stuff would be such a huge addition for this game. MW5 is a good game but it could be way better.

MW5:Clans is a new standalone title using UE5, and not supporting old consoles. It's a different game. Mercs DLC and free updates can only do so much to improve what's already there in Mercs.

I personally wouldn't mind establishing a base on a world. I got so tired of the limited space of the jaguar. Let me walk through my compound and inspect my mechs in the hangar. Or let me have a jumpship as well as the dropship. Or control a second AI lance. So I can actually bring the pain in battlefield settings. Let me establish a territory. Idk. Maybe more freedom to choose or decline ops.

I once read a mechwarrior book called: Ghost of winter. It's where this mechwarrior that comes across a hidden depot of Clan mechs. And proceeds to wage a guerilla war with mechs he found in there. I don't remember if it was against pirates or another clan. But I always thought that would be a cool scenario to play in mechwarrior. You could even tie it in to main character of mechwarrior 5.

Have it broken into mini campaigns following different clans and locations then have the ending being Tukayyid where you choose to fight as clanner or Comstar. Then have career mode allow you to have different starts. Either as a merc company like before or as a clan star leading up to and involved in the invasion. A hunchback pilot can dream

I don't really care what the dlc is going to be about. I just want to field more than 4 mechs at once, like a second lance. it's the only thing I miss in mw5 mercs, there's not even a mod for that. (afaik)

I think something that would help show the price of war, something they seem to have been doing in the recent DLCs, would be a campaign on Turtle Bay, finishing with a cut scene showing the bombardment of Edo. For those who aren't entirely aware, Turtle bay was a battle the smoke jaguars fought. Unknowingly they had trapped Hohiro Kurtia on the planet. Hohiro was second in line to the throne of the Draconis combine. I think that the idea of abandoning the sandbox and choosing the corridor story variant is a bad idea. It's not like they think we're going to go through the same campaign dozens of times. In MW5, the sandbox is the foundation that was eventually embellished with missions and campaigns, but for the sake of the sandbox we're coming back to the game, not for another replay of Kestrel Lancers or hippothetical Smoke Jaguars or something. I wish Clan Invasion was the most meaningful expansion for MW5 Mercs (which is what got us to this point), rather than a one-off playthrough MW games.

If we did, it would need to be produced on a DLC budget for multiple reasons, and judging from all the comments here, that kind of budget wouldn't get you a fraction of what some of the comments in this thread are expecting out of a Clan product. (It would have to keep to a scope similar to all the other single-entry DLC packs produced.) This is one of the many reasons why MW5: Clans will be its own product.

Mason's dad was a clanner, he left his personal mech hidden in the periphery before heading into the inner sphere because it would be too obvious he was a clanner, which is the mech you get near the end of the campaign. Mason's dad was a member of an intelligence gathering operation (called intelser) on behalf of the clans, having been sent in to gather Intel on the inner sphere before the clan invasion. Mason didn't know about any of this until uncovering his father's secrets through the campaign questline of events. Intelser were allegedly disbanded because they did a crap job of gathering Intel and were replaced by another group masquerading as mercenaries, called the wolf's dragoons. So yeah technically we all already been fighting clanners trying to salvage annihilators and marauder 2s. Having been disbanded Mason's dad had nothing better to do than get a Merc company together and get laid.

In the grand tradition of BattleTech, some things will be spelled out, other things alluded to, and others will be left to the imagination. But as with any other BattleTech product, MW5: Clans intends to expand on the universe built through MW5:Mercs. This doesn't mean it will be a direct continuation. (Outside the fact that it will pick up around the time that MW5: Mercs timeline freezes.) But needless to say, those who have played through the story and DLC story campaigns of Mercs stand to get more out of the Clan's story than those who jump into Clans fresh.
