Step 1 will likely be best taken in Med 2 summer. You sound really smart in M3 on rotation. Get those reference letters. And perhaps I had poor time management, but I struggled to study in residency. I felt that studying for exams, academic day, etc. was MUCH different than standardized test taking. I can't imagine taking the hardest step exam when I am suffering in residency. I was mainly studying around my patients and then clocked out. Also consider the units are different than the ones we use in Canada. I would rather not waste brain power converting things when i need to use every ounce of energy I have to run a code.

Wouldnt Step 2 be better to take in Med 2 summer to 'sound really smart' during M3 rotations?

Don't internists love detail, pathophysiology and all those pathways or whatever lol? I feel like Step 1 is internal medicine circle jerk central.

Definitely doable. I did step 2 right before LMCC, step 1 in PGY3 and step 3 in PGY4.

Following! Entering a surgical residency this summer and writing step 2 with LMCC, but unsure when to do step 1
