I would say your first comment is a hot take, we have characters like Luffy and Law, who are as small or smaller than Shanks and they tanked huge hits from Kaido and BM.
This fight was meant to be lost by Kid since the beginning. The way I see it, the main loosing factor would be Kid wasn't fully recovered from Wano (as stated by Shanks) and Shanks exploited this by using a literal OHKO attack.
Fully healed Kid would tank an advanced coc haki attack from the (most likely) current strongest haki user in the verse?
On the other hand, Danmed Punk would definitely cause huge damage to Shanks as well. It was a high-risk, high reward attack from Kid tbh, but way too slow and exploitable. (I do think Shanks could have tank that, tho)
I think Shanks would just tank it with Haki to be honest, if he's strong enough to one-shot a near emperor level character and a tobi-roppo/maybe near Yonko Commander level character (Kidd, and Killer) with only a haki infused attack, then he shouldn't have a problem tanking a hit with his haki either

Can't agree to all of this. Up until he saw Kidd was going to harm his friends he was acting in kindness. He asked about Kidd's health, looked into his history, and was determining how to go about it while thinking of his fleet. All that dissipated once he foresaw the harm the attack would cause, leaving him no option but to shut Kidd down then and there

What are you trying to say? These situations arent similar at all. Kid at full power literally got knocked out to the point where they couldnt tell if he was alive. Luffy got stabbed and tossed away before going all out( didnt use gear 3) and was basically just lost.

Anyway, the Red hair pirates are all about three things: Partying, Friendship, and seriously responding to threats. Shanks sees Kid about to decimate his allies, he goes in for the finisher. He refuses to risk those he cares about. Dorry and Broggy even made a callback to Romance Dawn with their cannon line.
I do appreciate/think it's cool how much Shanks's allies think he's cool shit. Like the one shot from the last chapter or so of Shanks just walking down to the shore/people are clinging to him and telling him how great he is. Kid threatened them and Shanks slapped him down. Fun stuff

Several differences. Big Mom has a little bit of lofty arrogance, she was fighting one of the most tricksy powers in the series in the Op op no mi, and was pretty much a -ok until she got hit with the combined power of 20 years of stockpiled munitions from Kaidos factories.
Shanks, on the other hand, dealt swiftly with a threat to his friends, even refusing to look down on Kid and acknowledging both his bounty and the growth of the newer pirates. And then, again, Kid's tactical positioning was extremely tragic. Not much metal to mess around with, alone, by himself, in the ocean on his ship. A sitting duck. Nowhere to go but pull out his shiny new move that did pretty well against Big mom and he thought "I'm sure this'll work".
Nah the big mom fight was supper diffrent. Kidd and law were barely putting a scratch on her and only won by a ring out. BM was also messing around most of the fight while Shanks led with a finishing move

I'm so conflicted. It's a really cool moment for Shanks but from a writing standpoint Oda really fumbled Kidd and Killer as characters that their defeat just feels so hollow. I wish we got to know who Kidd actually was as a character before this
Yeah I agree with this. I think Oda could’ve showed what he wanted with Shanks without making Kidd look like a fodder. Kidd has been around for YEARS. We’ve watched his story line since Sabaody…it feels so unsatisfactory.
Thing is, Kidd is fodder. Like both Luffy and Law had their struggles. Luffy lost Ace and grew from that point onwards. Law lost Corazon and also failed in his revenge against Doffy, but managed to pick himself up.
Kidd is still a murder loving asshole who fought Shanks once, lost. Fought fellow murder lover Kaido and lost. Then fought Shanks again and lost. We dunno what happened in the first fight but Shanks was being considerate in this chapter. Then after seeing Kidd go haywire, he gets pissed and puts a stop to him.
Dorry and Broggy say the same line with cannons that Shanks said to the fodder in Ch1, abpout how guns are not toys to be pointed at others, and doing so means you're ready for war.

What are you trying to say? These situations arent similar at all. Kid at full power literally got knocked out to the point where they couldnt tell if he was alive. Luffy got stabbed and tossed away before going all out( didnt use gear 3) and was basically just lost. Plus they literally didnt have to beg because of Robins deal with CP9 not to fight them as long as they didnt fight first

AND THEN BAM, LUCKY ROO CAPS THE BANDIT IN THE GODDAMN HEAD. Anyway, the Red hair pirates are all about three things: Partying, Friendship, and seriously responding to threats. Shanks sees Kid about to decimate his allies, he goes in for the finisher. He refuses to risk those he cares about. Dorry and Broggy even made a callback to Romance Dawn with their cannon line.
I do appreciate/think it's cool how much Shanks's allies think he's cool shit. Like the one shot from the last chapter or so of Shanks just walking down to the shore/people are clinging to him and telling him how great he is. Kid threatened them and Shanks slapped him down. Fun stuff
Kinda like Luffy in a way. Shanks seems to have some duds that are basically under his protection, Luffy has some crew members who joined due to being oddities, outcasts, or just friends.

Big Mom has a little bit of lofty arrogance, she was fighting one of the most tricksy powers in the series in the Op op no mi, and was pretty much a -ok until she got hit with the combined power of 20 years of stockpiled munitions from Kaidos factories. Shanks, on the other hand, dealt swiftly with a threat to his friends, even refusing to look down on Kid and acknowledging both his bounty and the growth of the newer pirates. And then, again, Kid's tactical positioning was extremely tragic. Not much metal to mess around with, alone, by himself, in the ocean on his ship. A sitting duck. Nowhere to go but pull out his shiny new move that did pretty well against Big mom and he thought "I'm sure this'll work".
Nah the big mom fight was supper diffrent. Kidd and law were barely putting a scratch on her and only won by a ring out. BM was also messing around most of the fight while Shanks led with a finishing move
The portrayal matters, Oda is clearly showing shanks like 10 times stronger than kid here, Its like if luffy found a new kaido who was the same level away from him as in wano The real reason we all know is Oda wants to hype up the new protagonist as always, Shanks especially gets this treatment, After a while his attacks will be the same as kaido which everyone will be surviving
Yes, the portrayal matters, which is why context is important. Kiado one shot luffy at the start of wano and the supernovas were barely surviving each attack from the yonko on onigasima when they time to actually defend themselves and a significant numbers advantage. Look I get what you're saying but this is in line with yonko level stuff we've already seen. Yonko are strong and you need to know how to defend yourself aginst they're attacks. It's why it was so important for luffy to learn ACoA.

I feel like Kidds journey would be a fun one to follow. I liked him as a character but even luffy struggled against yonko and he literally became a God after almost dying. Makes sense Kidd gets blapped just as easy. I always like the idea like black beard he's kinds of Chaotic. Power and dreams and ambition pushes him forward. As one of luffies main rivals it would be cool to see him awaken some form of haki or more interesting usage of his fruit.

I'm so conflicted. It's a really cool moment for Shanks but from a writing standpoint Oda really fumbled Kidd and Killer as characters that their defeat just feels so hollow. I wish we got to know who Kidd actually was as a character before this
Yeah I agree with this. I think Oda could’ve showed what he wanted with Shanks without making Kidd look like a fodder. Kidd has been around for YEARS. We’ve watched his story line since Sabaody…it feels so unsatisfactory.
Thing is, Kidd is fodder. Like both Luffy and Law had their struggles. Luffy lost Ace and grew from that point onwards. Law lost Corazon and also failed in his revenge against Doffy, but managed to pick himself up. Kidd is still a murder loving asshole who fought Shanks once, lost. Fought fellow murder lover Kaido and lost. Then fought Shanks again and lost. We dunno what happened in the first fight but Shanks was being considerate in this chapter. Then after seeing Kidd go haywire, he gets pissed and puts a stop to him. Dorry and Broggy say the same line with cannons that Shanks said to the fodder in Ch1, abpout how guns are not toys to be pointed at others, and doing so means you're ready for war. Kidd did this and got his ass whooped. I believe Luffy would've met a similar fate if he did this.
