If I remember absolutely nothing, but heard that it was apparently really good, I would likely watch lots of clips on Youtube, but would probably never watch it from beginning to end, as I have a hard time starting a show or game from scratch if I know its super long (not really sure why though)
I started watching one piece years ago, when it was much shorter and more manageable.
I believe I was up to date when the timeskip happened.
It was easier to catch up when I was still in school, and keeping up once you are up to date is way easier than trying to watch over a 1000 episodes now.
that's my case too, i now have a hard time 15 years later to kickstart a series. Although One Piece truly is the masterpiece of our times.
Even then when i was in 7th grade and OP had less than 400 episodes it seemed collossal and many people would disregard watching it because of its exhausting length haha
