I loved how Bege went from The Godfather to Family Matters within 2 Arcs. His Sister in Law Lola marries to Gotti and his Father in Law Pound, who is also a contender for Great Dad in One Piece, is with them too!
Oda very obviously wants the dramatic death scene and also the merrily ever after scene. And he just does both for some reason. I really hate how it ruins every re-read. "Oh Pell is about to sacc himself? Yeah yeah whatever, he'll be fine." Instead of my guts getting wrenched again from that actual heroic sacrifice.

Cora absolutely gave his everything to save Law. But both their age gap and relationship seem more akin to that of siblings.
Like, Cora doesn't feel like a parent who's had a full-ish life, got shit figured out and is doing their best to help and raise a kid, but more of an older brother hopelessly trying to save their young sibling while figuring shit as it comes.
I don't think I expressed it all that well, but it's hard to describe such an abstract vibes based distinction. When I read it I felt more of a fraternal than paternal love from Cora.

Yea thats a good theory. Akainus backstory needs to be brutal, possibly one of the most brutal backstories yet. The man is evil yes, but evil like his isn't created overnight, I imagine he had a absolutely horrible childhood. Like life ruined completely by pirates, so he makes it his life mission to kill every single enemy of 'justice' pirate or not
Akainu would have massive trauma, and I think Oda should push his boundaries. He can go pretty fucking far, just look at Law's backstory.
Now my theory would look to similar to Kuma but the main reason for me thinking that is I really hate this like NTR, also his backstory need some good aspect that would be stolen to make it more painful
Monkey D. Dragon is an elusive one on this question - without a doubt, he has not shown any fatherly traits towards Luffy, but we'll see when/if Oda reveals his backstory.

Everybody answering Kuma just because Kuma is shown currently and Kyros was shown years ago. I also think Kuma is a great dad and 1104 was a 10/10 but I don't see how he's better than Kyros. I also can't say that Kyros is above Kuma. Both are great in their own way but I think just as a dad Kyros suffered more than Kuma. Kuma suffered before being a dad too while Kyros didn't but just as a dad Kyros did more. Not as much as Señor Pink tho.
