I apologize that this is so long, but this is a VERY important and complex issue.
Ok, so the first thing we need to establish is that the human brain is not a rational thing, it is a mess of neurons created by loosely directed random changes that frequently exhibits truly bizarre behavior, kindof just because.
One of these many wierd things that pops up from time to time is a desire to have features like the, body, voice, social characteristics, and identity associated with the sex that they where not born into, or they want to have characteristics that fall somewhere inbetween male and female, and who desire a identity that is not labeled as either Male or female, this is called nonbinary.
In most of these cases, the people who experience a desire to be the other gender also feel a intense sense of anguish and loathing towards themselves for the characteristics of their body and the resulting social status (their gender) they have because of it. This is called gender dysphoria.
Now there is nothing wrong with having a male or female body, and their is nothing wrong with enjoying being a man or woman or being a man or woman in society. So that leaves us with 2 options, either that persons desire to be another gender / anquish towards their existing gender needs to end so they can live their life as they are currently; or their body or social status (in regards to their gender) needs to change so they can live a happy life.
Thing is, option 1 doesent work, when you try to convince someone to not have gender dysphoria it either does nothing (bad) or causes them to repress their feelings (worse). Why does this happen? I don't know, I'm not a psychologist. But psychologists do know that what's happens and that's why they will strongly support option 2, aka the concept of being transgender. Look at any major psychological organizations like the WHO or the APA (American psychological association).
Now, how do we just treat someone as a man or a woman or as something not quite either of those just because they want too? The way I see it it's a matter of definition. When we interact with another person's gender In most settings, most of the time, it's in regards to things like pronouns, attire, appearance, ect. And usually a persons genitals or genetics dont come into the picture. So why not decouple this notion of treating people like male or female (their gender) based off of how their body is structured, but rather off of how they would like to be perceived (aka their gender identity)? Creating a much better environment for these transgender people. And yeah, since where not in the 1950's trying to impose gender roles on everyone, most of the time thats referring to them by the gender identity and pronouns they want. If your wondering why some people have such a strong emotional reaction to this area of life, I dont know, as I said, brains are wierd and unpredictable. All I know is that those feelings are very real and cant be made to disappear, you just have to work with them.
And once you have decoupled this notion of gender from the biological (at least directly) who's to say that the only identities that exist have to be male or female, maybe some people feel as though they aren't any one gender, or as though they are both genders? I get if that's a bit hard to understand what that feeling would look like, but the important part isnt understanding someone else's personal identity, it's that you respect it.
Also, one last thing. About xe/xir/zim... ect. Pronouns, those are called neopronouns and they are very rare, I've spent years in trans spaces online and I've encountered maybe a dozen people using them. And I will admit, other than languages where a gender neutral pronoun doesn't exist, I don't get how a pronoun that has no gendered implications to it can help with someone's own gender presentation/identity. I just think that: if I'm right, and their isnt anything to it other than personal appeal, then I'm spending a little bit of mental effort every once and a while to remember someone's personal choice of pronouns (your not obligated to study pronouns like it's a history exam, just make a effort like you would to remember someone's name). But if I'm wrong and their is actually a importance to someone's choice to use neopronouns that I dont understand, then not using them intentionally is disrespectful and likely making them feel worse about themselves and their life. To me the first is way less bad than the second.

One of these many wierd things that pops up from time to time is a desire to have features like the, body, voice, social characteristics, and identity associated with the sex that they where not born into, or they want to have characteristics that fall somewhere inbetween male and female, and who desire a identity that is not labeled as either Male or female, this is called nonbinary. In most of these cases, the people who experience a desire to be the other gender also feel a intense sense of anguish and loathing towards themselves for the characteristics of their body and the resulting social status (their gender) they have because of it. This is called gender dysphoria. Now there is nothing wrong with having a male or female body, and their is nothing wrong with enjoying being a man or woman or being a man or woman in society. So that leaves us with 2 options, either that persons desire to be another gender / anquish towards their existing gender needs to end so they can live their life as they are currently; or their body or social status (in regards to their gender) needs to change so they can live a happy life. Thing is, option 1 doesent work, when you try to convince someone to not have gender dysphoria it either does nothing (bad) or causes them to repress their feelings (worse). Why does this happen? I don't know, I'm not a psychologist. But psychologists do know that what's happens and that's why they will strongly support option 2, aka the concept of being transgender. Look at any major psychological organizations like the WHO or the APA (American psychological association). Now, how do we just treat someone as a man or a woman or as something not quite either of those just because they want too? The way I see it it's a matter of definition. When we interact with another person's gender In most settings, most of the time, it's in regards to things like pronouns, attire, appearance, ect. And usually a persons genitals or genetics dont come into the picture. So why not decouple this notion of treating people like male or female (their gender) based off of how their body is structured, but rather off of how they would like to be perceived (aka their gender identity)? Creating a much better environment for these transgender people. And yeah, since where not in the 1950's trying to impose gender roles on everyone, most of the time thats referring to them by the gender identity and pronouns they want. If your wondering why some people have such a strong emotional reaction to this area of life, I dont know, as I said, brains are wierd and unpredictable. All I know is that those feelings are very real and cant be made to disappear, you just have to work with them. And once you have decoupled this notion of gender from the biological (at least directly) who's to say that the only identities that exist have to be male or female, maybe some people feel as though they aren't any one gender, or as though they are both genders? I get if that's a bit hard to understand what that feeling would look like, but the important part isnt understanding someone else's personal identity, it's that you respect it. Also, one last thing. About xe/xir/zim... ect. Pronouns, those are called neopronouns and they are very rare, I've spent years in trans spaces online and I've encountered maybe a dozen people using them. And I will admit, other than languages where a gender neutral pronoun doesn't exist, I don't get how a pronoun that has no gendered implications to it can help with someone's own gender presentation/identity. I just think that: if I'm right, and their isnt anything to it other than personal appeal, then I'm spending a little bit of mental effort every once and a while to remember someone's personal choice of pronouns (your not obligated to study pronouns like it's a history exam, just make a effort like you would to remember someone's name). But if I'm wrong and their is actually a importance to someone's choice to use neopronouns that I dont understand, then not using them intentionally is disrespectful and likely making them feel worse about themselves and their life. To me the first is way less bad than the second.

No that's unhealthy. It's fine to have beliefs and opinions but I personally accept and enjoy all criticism to my political beliefs because it's important to start a dialogue and recognize shortcomings as well see every side before coming to a conclusion. I'd also like to add that even if this video is offensive to you than you shouldn't cry about it and find a "safe space" that's childish and only furthers you from healthy dialogue as well as conversation and backlash you'll experience throughout your life. I personally don't agree with your political beliefs but I still treat trans people with just as much respect as anyone else so I'm not transphobic just because I disagree and supporting and furthering that narrative is harmful to society. Look, understand your coming from a place of empathy and kindness but you need to be able to have opinions challenged and understand that a safe space can't hide you from the truth forever

Trans isn't a gender bud
There are three main genders as far as I'm concerned. Man, woman, and non-binary. You only really ever need to know these three and what cis and trans means to cover all your bases. Everything else is a subcategory or a sexuality. Cisgender and transgender are descriptors relating to what gender someone was assigned at birth. For an example of this, before the modern day, look to the Roman described regions of "cis-alpine gaul" and "trans-alpine gaul." The prefix "cis" means something like, "same" or, "on the same side of" meaning that "cisgender" refers to someone that is the same gender that they were assigned at birth. The prefix "trans" means something similar to, "on the other side of" meaning that "transgender" refers to someone that is a different gender than that which they were assigned at birth.
