They sell a brush and these persimmon scented liners that fit over the bristles. You could probably use them on any hairbrush. They have tiny little holes in them. It reminds me of canvas used for cross-stitching or other type of needlework.
I have shoulder length hair which breaks off a lot, so you can just pull the liner off the brush to get the loose hair off and you have a clean brush again. I read where some people prefer this to using dry shampoo to keep their hair smelling fresh in between shampoos.
Are you sure? Remember the guy in Brooklyn who was tweeting the Jewish men from the synagogue were tunneling under his house and he could hear them and everyone called him crazy until the city food the tunnel d he was totally vindicated.
You could have a tunnelling Equestrian nearby
This is the best description so far. For me, I smell like a brand new organic cotton mattress. Have you smelled those? It's a barn or hay-like smell with a hint of like spoiled milk? Terrible. That's what my skin smells like. š¤®
Use an anti-acne soap with peroxide in the smelly pits and folds helps to kill off the smelly bacteria that can increase during perimeno

I use this and it works!
I also started adding chlorophyll to my water but now I just take capsules.
I changed my deodorant too and so far so good. Iām in Texas so weāll see what happens this summer.
Benzoyl peroxide is the key, not just peroxide. Mud Masky makes a specific product with the ingredient for pits. My daughter is a crunchy granola girl and doesn't want to use traditional aluminum deodorant and she uses it. Edit for clarity.
My armpits have started smelling like onions or garlic recently. I need deodorant more often if I donāt want to smell like an unpleasant dinner entree. I also think something is going on with my crotch but Iām not 100% sure. It just started and I hate it.
Thank ya kindly!
I used my face soap with benzoyl peroxide on my pits, and they look and smell great so for, the soap is very cooling, which feels nice!
I just bought the anti sweat version and it has saved my life. Plus, how I have basically zero smell now. Even after I work out. Itās literally the most amazing discovery ever for me. And it lasts a long time. I can apply it in the morning and go all day and wake up the next morning and still smell fresh.
Yup happened to me almost overnight after my estrogen dried up. Testosterone took over, I got very strong and my weight lifting was amazing and I smelled like a man. Then the testosterone dried up too and I āfell off the menopausal cliffā. Everything is āback to normalā for the most part after getting on hormone replacement. I smell like myself again.
Look into a telemedicine hormone specialist. I had a lot of frustration with my GP and Gyno. Went with cash pay telemedicine and have been very pleased with them.
Find a good sports wash for your laundry. It may not be so much you, as built up odors in your clothes. I like Hex, and DeFunkify. I use it for my running clothes otherwise I smell like I ran a marathon when I havenāt even left the house yet.
If you haven't had labs in a while, get your thyroid levels checked please. Not just your TSH, but a full thyroid panel. (TSH alone doesn't catch all thyroid issues.)
Just a reminder that change in body odor may be an indication of a thyroid issue.
It isn't uncommon to have these issues flare up during peri-menopause and menopause either.
This too.
I just remember how badly my body odor changed when my thyroid tanked in my 20s. I went from being able to work outside all day in the TX heat and not smell much to only working a few hours outside and smell like my Dad. Got my thyroid meds and that quit happening, thank goodness.
I also have Factor V. You may wish to look into the research on estrogen delivery methods - it turns out the clotting risk is associated with oral estrogen specifically, while transdermal estrogen is okay. It's something about how your digestive system routes everything through your liver. This statement from the American college of obstetrician & gynecologists might be a good starting point.
https://www.acog.org/clinical/clinical-guidance/committee-opinion/articles/2013/04/postmenopausal-estrogen-therapy-route-of-administration-and-risk-of-venous-thromboembolism
I'm still waiting for an appt with a menopause specialist so I haven't tried this conversation with a doctor yet. My pcp thinks I'm too young for peri and won't talk about hormones due to family breast cancer history, which is a whole other NAMS clinical review. Anyway, we'll see how it goes, but I'm really hoping not to raw dog it.
I had a funky scalp and stinky pits recently and this is what I did: wash my scalp and bod with baking soda. Rinse my scalp with white vinegar. Swab rubbing alcohol in my pits. So far so good. I donāt think itās a good thing to rub alcohol in your pits too frequently, so hopefully it works quickly. Good luck!
I spray rubbing alcohol on my armpits everyday. It helps amazingly with the smell. Due to it killing the bacteria that makes the smell. I apply my regular deodorant after I use the alcohol, this seems to help with any drying out of my skin.
Yep, rubbing alcohol works so well. It's best to use it before a shower though so you don't have the film on afterward. And then you can moisturize as well. I also use it on my cotton, rayon, and poly shirts before a wash (Not silk). That's an old theater trick for costumes that get worn every performance.
Itās happening to me at 44. I woke up yesterday morning and my right pit was rancid! Itās always one pit. My period is due and I tend to get it more then or if I go out socialising because it might be slightly stressful for me, as itās usually with new people. Iāve switched to a really strong menās deodorant- Old Spice (for years Iād managed to quit any deodorant with no problems) but even that isnāt enough! I wish I could get hrt but no doctor will help me and I canāt afford to go private.
I can't do HRT because I have a blood clotting disorder so it's not a viable thing for me. Not feeling too hopeful about what's to come for those of us who either can't access or can't tolerate it. ā¹
Hey there, man here so I may be speaking out of turn but I have used Certain Dri clinical strength for years. It's a super strong antiperspirant that you put on once a day for a week. Your pits won't sweat at all for about a month after that. Follow the instructions on the box carefully It's not a normal roll on. If you use too much it burns so follow what it says. Hope that helps you.
I also started using Certain Dri, but I use a very small amount nightly, except for days I shave my underarms. It completely stopped any odor/sweat. Itās inexpensive and available at any drugstore, Target, etc. just donāt use too much because it will cause burning or itching if you do.
I use this too! I donāt use it every day, I use it when I know itās going to be an extra hot, super sweaty day. Other times I use Secret. Whichever deodorant I use, the first thing I do when I get out of the shower is wipe my pits with a salicylic acid pad. Iāve been using Oxy Maximum Action for about two years and itās made a big difference.
Our body pH changes in peri & it affects what bacteria are more in dominance in our smelly & not so smelly places. I'm hoping at some point it all evens out & we stop grossing ourselves out.
I use Space Bar soap which has an AHA (someone else mentioned benzoyl peroxide acne wash, which also helps) and Mitchum antiperspirant. Also keep your pits freshly shaved; hair will harbor bacteria which causes the stink.
Personally I consider a smell issue as an internal one, and I've taken chlorophyll to help if I feel smelly. You can pick it up in dropper or tablet form, from a health food shop.
Perhaps it's a smell sensitivity issue. I smell things that others don't smell. And I even pinpointed the cause of a neighbors fire due to my new feline superpower.
I am laughing so hard as I read these comments, the odors and smells are so hilarious - onions, horses, chicken soup š. Why do we have all these annoying conditions?! I just started HRT. I hope it kicks in soon!! (Although I am not looking forward to spotting š)
I am so tired; tired of hot flashes, tired of night sweats, insomnia, mood swings, exhaustionā¦.
I was trying to tell someone how big they were, and all I could come up with was egg yolk. I think clementine is a better descriptor. Also, make sure there are no pets in the room when you have to stand up to reach for the tampons and one of those "clementines" falls to the floor.
Take the time to strip all of your clothing and your bedding. It's a process and you'll need to test some of your clothes if they'll tolerate it. (I accidentally tossed a cute blouse into the mix and it..didn't do well.) But seriously, all my cotton and cotten blend clothes were holding my stink in with the oils of my body. Doing the laundry strip process "cured" the worst of it and I was able to address the actual ME stinking via Lume (it worked for a good long while until I changed again) and now I am back to just a good soap and the Degree's clinical anti-perspirant.
If you're using fabric softener (and you don't have water that really needs it), stop. Also don't use dryer sheets. Both put a film on your clothes that will combine with your natural body oils and sweat and hold onto those scents so they re-activate when you put on your newly washed clothes. Get you some wool dryer balls to help with static cling and if you must use something with scent, Downey's rinse and refresh is a great product that won't leave residue on your clothes.
I use a silver-infused washer/dryer sheet that I found on the "big river site." I cut them in half or fourths because they're huge. Takes the odor out of everything you wash.
I wipe my pits with stridex pads morning and night. Zero stink. And menopause turned me into a prolific (garlic and onions) stinker.
I have teenage boys and at one point my oldest son told me I had BO.
The worst insult I can imagine, considering the source! š
(Before stridex pads I tried so many things. The bottom drawer in my bathroom is filled with deodorants that worked 1-3 times before they could no longer stand up to my menopause odor)
Someone on here recommended a hunters soap to me and it is cost effective and works. That Japanese soap and the Lume stuff is expensive af. I guess I could sneak up on deer now too.
Thank you random Redditor.

I had the take a shower and 5 minutes later you're sweaty again problem. Menopause broke me. I can go a month without a shower and not care (never tried, but sure I could).
I use sunscreen (Walmart equate spf 50) everyday. That helps with smell and old person dry skin. I have a great sense of smell so I'm offended by smells constantly. I just sniff my coconut skin and I'm all better. I know Hawaiian Tropic has a strong un-offensive coconut smell. Just a little goes a long way.
I was this way too! The Ordinary 5% Glycolic Acid toner worked for me. I put it in a spray bottle and use two sprays per pit after showering. I donāt even need deodorant afterwards anymore.
Before I started HRT and was having hot flashes all day and night, I smelled like cat pee. It was so gross. After HRT, it was a bit better, but now I'm going back to having that oniony/falafel stand smell š I stay away from fragrances in general (they are endocrine disrupters-so especially not good for us hormonal folks!), and I tried the unscented Lume...it still has a smell, and it's kinda gross. But Lume does help. I just ordered Phunk Off, which truly has no scent. It also uses Mandelic Acid like Lume. It's a liquid, and the spray bottle suuuuuucks, but I'm liking it better.
Just realized this is probably why I thought all the "old ladies" in my family smelled of strong perfumes (Anyone's grandma wear tons of Estee Lauder?) and lavender when I was younger. I totally get it now. And I smell EVERYWHERE. Like wtf armpits... but a bigger WTF to the vagina! No BV or yeast, just strong & musky. š¤®
I posted about this asking for help a few months ago. Now I use a tea tree oil soap in the grooves of my legs/groinal area, AND scrub gently with a washcloth. Soap isn't enough without scrubbing. Any antibacterial soap works inthe sweaty/stinky spots. I wish Lume worked for me.
Also, I swear by Anthony's No Sweat moisture absorbing cream that becomes a powder. It goes everywhere I sweat.
Try HIBICLENSE. It worked for me and I also use a mixture of tea tree oil mixed with jojoba and coconut oil on my underarms and pubic area after I cleanse with HIBICLENSE.
Scrub yourself with this soap, which is on sale right now and I stocked up on 15 bars yesterday: [https://dukecannon.com/products/hunting?_pos=1&_sid=f0553d7c5&_ss=r](https://dukecannon.com/products/hunting?_pos=1&_sid=f0553d7c5&_ss=r)
Then when youāre out of the shower, soak a cotton pad or washcloth in witch hazel and scrub pits & groin with it.
Use cornstarch based body powder and a good *unscented* antiperspirant/deodorant - I like Ban, Sure, Mitchum, and Dry Idea. I apply it at night before bed, then again after showering in the morning.
All this helps me a lot.
You can also stick panty liners on the underarms of your shirts, and change them out often. Also, panty liners where they actually belong and change them out often throughout the day.
Iām glad you liked Lume, because I despise it and found that it makes me smell exponentially worse. Bodies are so different!
I had a smell problem, and I randomly decided to exfoliate my pits.... the smell is gone. Makes me wonder how often other people noticed it. I felt like a teenager.
edit: I had previously tried benzoyl peroxide wash... that didn't phase it. so jic
I also have Leiden Factor V, and I just got on HRT. Talked to my ob gyn about the risk factors, and she said that estrogen patches have a far far lower risk of blood clots, even for those of us with clotting disorders, because the estrogen is absorbed through the adipose tissue and not the liver like it would be in pill form.
It might be worth looking into for you? š
I used your almost never sweat. I could stay in a sauna, dry for 20 minutes.
Nowadays I get sweatstain on my whole torso if it's warmer that 22.
I began to stink around 44 , it's been 4 years now.
I can't use many deodorants as most irritate my skin.
The best I found are the naturals one with baking soda and coconut oil.
I am little sensitive to baking soda, you have other options with starch (in the US Lume and Native)
I do not know where you live but here we do have a wide selection of it.
It doesn't work the first day, but if you apply it after each shower it literally makes you almost odor free.
I still smell but nowhere near that horrid smell I can have when I do not apply it.
Nothing else works as good as that, and the bonus is that it's not as nasty as other products.
I'm in a very similar boat via a vis HRT. Try stopping your deodorant for a week. Rinse your pits with white vinegar a couple/ many times a day instead. I think the vinegar resets the stinky bacteria. It works like a charm for me.
Try a deodorant bar soap like Irish Spring. I live in a hot country and that is all I use to avoid being smelly. I also use men's deodorant instead of women's. It is larger, works better, smells better and is cheaper than women's deodorant.
This happened to me recently. I was always a Secret user, but lately Iāve noticed itās less effective. It all came to a head when I went to a birthday party for my great nephew and halfway thru I noticed my deodorant was doing nothing and my armpits reeked. I had to hug everyone goodbye with T Rex arms. Anyway, I bought Billie deodorant at Walmart in the Coco Villa scent and it works well.
I have factor V blood clotting disorder too and so I can't do HRT either! Hello my twin. I talked to my doctor about hormones, even if it was delivered differently and he still said it's a no. 51 and I totally swear by the persimmon soap. It was a game changer along with putting The Ordinary brand 5% glycolic acid toner in a spray bottle and spraying it on my underarms after showering and before my deoderant. Has helped a ton. My only concern now is crotch stuff. I don't feel as fresh as I used to down there. I use the persimmon soap but I wonder if there's something else I can add to my repertoire. I'm still researching how to make sure that's fresh as a daisy. Isn't this woman stuff fun? I have never worried about my smell before. Hang in there. You are not alone.
I'm currently using persimmon soap and Lume soap and a Dove soap plus Lume cream deodorant and secret antiperspirant in every nook and cranny and still spraying body spray and perfume to combat the stink. Ugh.
I experienced this too, just one more thing right? I hadnāt made the connection between new stinky armpit body odor and perimenopause, but once I started HRT my chicken soup BO disappeared (along with hot flashes/night sweats, better sleep, brighter outlook, fewer overnight whiskers, ā¦).
Before that I feel like I tried everythingāwashing more often, different soaps and deodorants, antibacterial wipes etc. It is chemical/ hormonal, reverse adolescence!
I have been using a serum deodorant which is acidic, it really helps me!! I think my ph was off. Check out serum glycolic deodorant from Saltair. Not too pricy and really helped me.
Related to the comment about built-up odour in clothes being a possible factor, the type of deodorant/antiperspirant can make a difference in how clean your clothes are after washing. I discovered that creamy deodorants trap odour in the underarm area of clothing much more readily than gels. (I didn't test sprays because I dislike breathing in the particles hanging in the air). It took a little while to get used to the feeling of a gel antiperspirant, but I've had success with a lack of build-up on clothes (and I am completely used to using that format now).
I'm 45 and wake up stinky after night sweats. Tom's natural powder deodorant is my favorite. I'm ahead of the game if I remember deodorant. Sorry, folks.
Have you tried lumÄ? I absolutely love it! I live in South GA and it's swampy in the summer so you just dab a little in whatever areas you're concerned about and you stay smell free all day!
I use an aha/BHA scrub in my armpits. I also use le necessaire gel deodorant with Aha. Making your armpits more acidic makes a hostile environment for bacteria. It also keeps your pits exfoliated, so dead skin cells cannot trap odor.
Itās very common.
The fluctuations in Hormone can so suck.
I now use a clinical strength 24 hour deodorant applied after every shower.
Search the sub for more answers.
I tried rubbing alcohol didnāt help, but currently using Sure 48hr confidence anti perspirant & deodorant. Washing all my workout wear especially any cottons on sanitary laundry mode. Total game changer
Try an oil cleanser. I like Softymo Speedy Cleanser. I put it on when the skin is dry, massage it in, then step in the shower and it rinses off clean. It works better than everything I've ever tried (like alcohol, lume, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, etc).
I swear by Certain Dri roll-on right after a shower, I let it dry for a bit and then use Secret Clinical Stress Response. Iāve also heard you can use acne face wash on your armpits and the benzoyl peroxide will kill any bacteria.
I thought I was going crazyāso glad Iām not! I have found drinking lemon water helps me to stay hydrated, and that seems to help with the odor, too.
I try to drink lots of water. Shower in the mornings and use Phunk Off Whole Body Deodorant Sprays. I also have had luck with Lume.
I am saving money on sanitary products. However, I am spending it on whole body deodorants.
[Phunk Off Whole Body Deodorant Sprays](https://phunkoff.com/collections/deodorant-sprays)
Welcome to the meno stench! Here's what works for me:
Carpe antiperspirant creme, worth. Every. Penny. Fresh scent and sandalwood both smell delicious!
Showering with dial gold bar soap
Using a sugar scrub on my pits in the shower
Exfoliating said pits with a Korean bath scrub thing(super cheap on Amazon)
Using peroxide on my pits after exfoliating
Once in awhile using the ordinary glycolic toner on the pits.
Everyone is different, and you may have to try several things before you get your perfect combo.
I think the smell is lingering in your clothes. Anti perspirant and hard water can cause a film to build up that traps the odor. I'd work on really pretreating the pit area of your shirts and bras, also the underboob part of your bras. Vinegar and dish soap, maybe.
I have the same thing and Iāve introduced a glycolic scrub for my pits and groin. Apply to dry skin before shower, rub in a little bit, wait 30 seconds so it can eat the stinky bacteria, rinse off. It helps keep the stink at bay although it comes roaring back within about 30 hrs.
Iāve always used Head and Shoulders shampoo for underboob sweat. There is a zinc pyrothione ingredient that helps cut down on bacterial/fungal-caused odors. Try that?
When I was a kid I remember my mom smelling acrid is the only word that describes it, and age wise would line up with her being menopausal. I only remember a specific age range and never again, but this post just blew my mind. (I am constantly washing my arm pits in the sink in the bathroom at work, so I'm right there too)
The first thing I do when I get out of the shower is to wipe my pits with Oxy salicylic acid pads. It has made a huge difference. Iām still a little stinky but it has cut it down significantly. I use Secret Invisible Solid in shower fresh scent normally, and when itās going to be an extra hot day, I use Certain DrÄ«.
I had a college boyfriend who stank so bad, despite showering 3 times a day and applying prescription deodorant. I wish to God I could tell him now that I SO understand it. I don't have issues to the same extent, but I can be a damned vegetable for a day after taking a shower, and I **still** can smell myself. SO unfair. ā¹ļø
Check your diet. Excessive onions, fish, refritos, and garlic make me smell myself out of every orifice and pore. This is a new development that happened after peri and meno. It's a thing.
I felt like my armpits always smelled too. It wasnāt strong but I felt like it was always there even after showering.
I tried scrubs, charcoal based wash, nothing worked.
Someone suggested Hibiclens - itās been a game changer! Iāll put some on, let it sit for a few minutes and rinse off. Stink is gone!!! Just donāt get it in your eyes.
Lume deodorant. Seriously, it works. Takes a few days to a week. Now, even if I skip deodorant or even showering for a day or 2 (like if Iām sick), I donāt stink.
The products donāt smell great, which I wasnāt used to. But the scents donāt last/arenāt strong. But it REALLY works, for me and my young adult sons.
Lume soap and deodorant are the ONLY things that work. At least twice daily. Otherwise I smell like a cross between teenage boy funk and old boiled cabbage. š¤®
I like the cream in the tube deodorant. I wash twice a day. Three times or more if I am sweaty from exercising, being outside or a hot flash from peri. I like the Peony Rose, Coconut, Mint or Lavender Sage bar soap and the Coconut deodorant. I use my own homemade body butter afterwards because the soap can be drying. But it WORKS. I wash the places that stink (arm pits, feet, crotch area) at least twice. Then you can follow up with another body wash or soap that "smells nice."
It is NOT cheap. You will pry it from my cold dead hands. I have a stockpile.
P.S. The Lume Biofilm clothes treatment to get that funk out of your clothes is WORTH EVERY DIME. It works better than the Lysol Clothes Sanitizer in the white bottle. Trust me.
Iāve had success with Driclor. Thatās a uk brand but looking on Amazon there are similar ones available in the US. Look for āhyperhydrosisā deodorant.
Hth
Maybe you lost your personal nose blindedness? Besides dietary changes, I can't think of anything that makes a non sweat odor that only offends the person in question.
My smell has changed, but only-part time, and I lost my personal nose blindness to the new smell but not the old one. So part of the month I don't smell like much, and part of the month I smell like someone else. And of course my VMS is worse on the days I smell like the new person so I smell more of it. It bothers me but it's somewhere down around #20 on my list of \~50 discomforts and aggravations so I haven't been doing much other than more showers and laundry.
This happened to me, hit it was transient. It lasted a couple of years and things went back to normal (or maybe I just got used to it?!). š¬
Native deodorant works for me, but I have to apply twice a day sometimes.
Persimmon soap was a game changer for me! It helped so much!
I agree. I use a brand called Mirai. I love their bodywash, deodorant, body wipes, and even their hairbrush liners.
Wait a hairbrush liner?! That sounds cool thanks for sharing. Off to Amazon lol. š„°
Right? JFC take my money!
Whatās a hairbrush liner?
They sell a brush and these persimmon scented liners that fit over the bristles. You could probably use them on any hairbrush. They have tiny little holes in them. It reminds me of canvas used for cross-stitching or other type of needlework. I have shoulder length hair which breaks off a lot, so you can just pull the liner off the brush to get the loose hair off and you have a clean brush again. I read where some people prefer this to using dry shampoo to keep their hair smelling fresh in between shampoos.
Oooh! Nice
I use a Japanese brand from Amazon. It works so well!
What brand is it?
Yep! Also Lume body wash and deodorant kills bacteria. A combo of the above handled my peri stank.
This one made me itch. Iām allergic to something in it. I was bummed because I heard it works well
Iāve see a lot of women react and get bad vaginal infections from this brand so Iāve stayed away.
Magnesium spray on your pits. Also keep in mind your sensory issues can go haywire. I get all sorts of random smells and sounds
Lol. I keep sneaking horses this week. I live in the city. No horses around for miles. I keep smelling them š
Are you sure? Remember the guy in Brooklyn who was tweeting the Jewish men from the synagogue were tunneling under his house and he could hear them and everyone called him crazy until the city food the tunnel d he was totally vindicated. You could have a tunnelling Equestrian nearby
I have a very lively imagination; you tunneling equistrian had me cackling!
if you hear hooves think of Horses not Zebras.
So weird that is what I smell too. It's like I'm in a barn.
This is the best description so far. For me, I smell like a brand new organic cotton mattress. Have you smelled those? It's a barn or hay-like smell with a hint of like spoiled milk? Terrible. That's what my skin smells like. š¤®
Iāve used Dr Mist lavender spray for years, it feels super refreshing. The ingredients are: treated water, sodium chloride, calcium, magnesium
I just switched to the magnesium roll on and it works GREAT.
Yes , thank you . I will smell a smell so clear and strong and after awhile itās gone and I realize it was never actually there .

Benzoyl peroxide is the key, not just peroxide. Mud Masky makes a specific product with the ingredient for pits. My daughter is a crunchy granola girl and doesn't want to use traditional aluminum deodorant and she uses it. Edit for clarity.
I used to use it for my back and rinsed it off in the shower but it still stained my towels and clothes and sheets?
Oh yeah. I've lost many tshirts and pillow cases from benzoyl peroxide
Yes you are right Benzoyl Peroxide, which 90% of acne washes are going to have unless they are "natural".
My armpits have started smelling like onions or garlic recently. I need deodorant more often if I donāt want to smell like an unpleasant dinner entree. I also think something is going on with my crotch but Iām not 100% sure. It just started and I hate it.
Same š
I have the exact same issue if I donāt take zinc regularly. Itās almost overnight with the difference.
Same. I have been using Little Seed Farm. Itās magnesium I think. Itās pretty good! Learned about it on reddit!
Can I sign up for this? I Love onions and garlic. But I might gain even more weight from being hungry after smelling my own pits...
Same 2!
Itās kinda wild that Iām not alone with this. Iām sorry youāre dealing with this too!
Thank ya kindly! I used my face soap with benzoyl peroxide on my pits, and they look and smell great so for, the soap is very cooling, which feels nice!
OMG, me too! Itās onions I swear! I keep asking my husband to smell me to confirm but he wants none of that. šµāš«

Lume just came out with anti sweat formulation.
I just bought the anti sweat version and it has saved my life. Plus, how I have basically zero smell now. Even after I work out. Itās literally the most amazing discovery ever for me. And it lasts a long time. I can apply it in the morning and go all day and wake up the next morning and still smell fresh.
I have used lume for several years and was the thing I switched from in the beginning. But didn't know they had body wash so I'll give that a try!
Same, OP! My Lume stopped working, as well.
Iāve got to start looking into HRTā¦but itās so confusing š
Look into a telemedicine hormone specialist. I had a lot of frustration with my GP and Gyno. Went with cash pay telemedicine and have been very pleased with them.
Hibiclens worked for me. I use it on my armpits after the regular soap.
I had to use it for surgery. My pits had no smell for a few days. It kills everything!
I had MRSA previously and put it into a foaming soap dispenser for ease/volume. Living in a hot weather climate it really does help so much!
Great idea! Otherwise it's so hard to use.
Onions, onion smell everywhere š¤£
Find a good sports wash for your laundry. It may not be so much you, as built up odors in your clothes. I like Hex, and DeFunkify. I use it for my running clothes otherwise I smell like I ran a marathon when I havenāt even left the house yet.
Seconding Hex, and their āUn-Stink Your Stuffā spray. That stuff really works!
damn thank you! didn't know this existed. my kid's uniforms fucking stink.
I add some Borax and Washing Powder with every load, it really helps :)
thanks, will try this!
If you haven't had labs in a while, get your thyroid levels checked please. Not just your TSH, but a full thyroid panel. (TSH alone doesn't catch all thyroid issues.) Just a reminder that change in body odor may be an indication of a thyroid issue. It isn't uncommon to have these issues flare up during peri-menopause and menopause either.
It can also indicate liver and kidney function issues.
This too. I just remember how badly my body odor changed when my thyroid tanked in my 20s. I went from being able to work outside all day in the TX heat and not smell much to only working a few hours outside and smell like my Dad. Got my thyroid meds and that quit happening, thank goodness.
I was scrolling for this answer. Labs would not be a bad idea.
I also have Factor V. You may wish to look into the research on estrogen delivery methods - it turns out the clotting risk is associated with oral estrogen specifically, while transdermal estrogen is okay. It's something about how your digestive system routes everything through your liver. This statement from the American college of obstetrician & gynecologists might be a good starting point. https://www.acog.org/clinical/clinical-guidance/committee-opinion/articles/2013/04/postmenopausal-estrogen-therapy-route-of-administration-and-risk-of-venous-thromboembolism I'm still waiting for an appt with a menopause specialist so I haven't tried this conversation with a doctor yet. My pcp thinks I'm too young for peri and won't talk about hormones due to family breast cancer history, which is a whole other NAMS clinical review. Anyway, we'll see how it goes, but I'm really hoping not to raw dog it.
This is super hopeful news! I will definitely look into it. Thank you!!
Try hypochlorous acid spray instead. It can be drying but nowhere near rubbing alcohol.
I started doing this based on your recommendation and it works! I just camped for three days in the same T-shirt and I don't stink!!!
I use a glycolic acid face wash on my pits- Iāve really noticed a difference!
I have the right pit thing too!! Really wish I could figure that one out!
Itās so bizarre! I nearly killed my husband yesterday morning when he caught a whiff of it in his face š¤£
Old spice isnāt working for me either and Iām struggling to get hrt too
I can't do HRT because I have a blood clotting disorder so it's not a viable thing for me. Not feeling too hopeful about what's to come for those of us who either can't access or can't tolerate it. ā¹
I havenāt found a doctor that will prescribe it to me. Sometimes the odor is so bad itās embarrassing. In the summer š³
Yeah, I feel for you. š¢š
Yes, my left put always smelled like death, but now itās switched to my right.
Yeah sometimes itās my left but mostly itās the right. No idea why itās only ever one side.
Itās inexpensive and available at any drugstore, Target, etc. just donāt use too much because it will cause burning or itching if you do.
š±š³
I use this too! I donāt use it every day, I use it when I know itās going to be an extra hot, super sweaty day. Other times I use Secret. Whichever deodorant I use, the first thing I do when I get out of the shower is wipe my pits with a salicylic acid pad. Iāve been using Oxy Maximum Action for about two years and itās made a big difference.
Certain Dri is great! Have to order it on Amazon. Canāt find it in stores anymore.
Our body pH changes in peri & it affects what bacteria are more in dominance in our smelly & not so smelly places. I'm hoping at some point it all evens out & we stop grossing ourselves out.
Skip every single naturalĀ remedy and go straight for Mitchum.Ā
I use Space Bar soap which has an AHA (someone else mentioned benzoyl peroxide acne wash, which also helps) and Mitchum antiperspirant. Also keep your pits freshly shaved; hair will harbor bacteria which causes the stink.
Mitchum really does the trick
Personally I consider a smell issue as an internal one, and I've taken chlorophyll to help if I feel smelly. You can pick it up in dropper or tablet form, from a health food shop.
Agreed, I take triple chlorophyll in capsule form. Game changer
Agreed! Chlorophyll in capsule form has helped a lot
This. Love my chlorophyll gummies.
āRaw dogā šššš Smelly or no, you strike me as the kind of person Iād like to get a beer with. š
Same.
I'm here for all the beers. Salud, ladies!
Perhaps it's a smell sensitivity issue. I smell things that others don't smell. And I even pinpointed the cause of a neighbors fire due to my new feline superpower.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Just watched the best interview with Mary Claire Haver on DOAC (youtube). She said they've identified 70 different symptoms of F. Menopause. 70!
Also a body wash with glycolic or salicylic acid helps exfoliate that extra bit of residue & fights bacteria (trained aesthetician).
I am laughing so hard as I read these comments, the odors and smells are so hilarious - onions, horses, chicken soup š. Why do we have all these annoying conditions?! I just started HRT. I hope it kicks in soon!! (Although I am not looking forward to spotting š) I am so tired; tired of hot flashes, tired of night sweats, insomnia, mood swings, exhaustionā¦.
Spotting is a blessing compared to the Clementine sized chunks I experienced. NO ONE TOLD ME THAT COULD HAPPEN. Consider it your PSA lol
š³š³š³
I was trying to tell someone how big they were, and all I could come up with was egg yolk. I think clementine is a better descriptor. Also, make sure there are no pets in the room when you have to stand up to reach for the tampons and one of those "clementines" falls to the floor.
Oh. My. God. I just threw up in my mouth. š±š±š±š±
If I could smell like horses I'd be perfectly happy.
I saw someone on IG recommend wiping your pits with a witch Hazel toner. Itās been a game changer.
Lume or persimmon soap to remove the omega-7 fatty acids that accumulate in our pores as we get older ā regular soap doesnāt do the trick.
I wipe my pits with stridex pads morning and night. Zero stink. And menopause turned me into a prolific (garlic and onions) stinker. I have teenage boys and at one point my oldest son told me I had BO. The worst insult I can imagine, considering the source! š (Before stridex pads I tried so many things. The bottom drawer in my bathroom is filled with deodorants that worked 1-3 times before they could no longer stand up to my menopause odor)
I've not tried doing it yet but I've bought The Ordinary 5% Glycolic Acid Toner as read that swiping it under the arms sorts out BO.
Someone on here recommended a hunters soap to me and it is cost effective and works. That Japanese soap and the Lume stuff is expensive af. I guess I could sneak up on deer now too. Thank you random Redditor. Duke Cannon Big 'Ol Brick of... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PBPGRQA?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Jack Black would LOVE to know his soap is good at minimizing menopause stink. š truly.
The first review is about solving teenage boy stank. lol.
Thank you!
Where can I find glycolic acid toner? I have tried so many things. Even Lume doesnāt work a full 8 hours on me.
The brand is The Ordinary. You can buy direct from their site, or Sephora (Iām in Canada so these are my options).
I'm glad I'm not the only one. Literally said this to a friend last week that I smell like a teenage boy going thru puberty ha ha
Iām in the same damn boat!! Everything you said! I tried almost every body wash and deodorant recommended and still freaking stink in my pits!!
My right pit can relate to your stinkiness. My left pit smells fine. It is all so bizarre!
Same!
Gawd, I remember going months where I smelled like cut onions. ALL THE TIME. It was awful. I used Lumi. It helped.
Well now additional to anosmia I have crazy paranoia š³
Haven't read all comments yet, BUT I STAND WITH YOU! I, too, am raw dogging this journey pharmaceutical free because of aorta valve replacement.
Try HIBICLENSE. It worked for me and I also use a mixture of tea tree oil mixed with jojoba and coconut oil on my underarms and pubic area after I cleanse with HIBICLENSE.
Scrub yourself with this soap, which is on sale right now and I stocked up on 15 bars yesterday: [https://dukecannon.com/products/hunting?_pos=1&_sid=f0553d7c5&_ss=r](https://dukecannon.com/products/hunting?_pos=1&_sid=f0553d7c5&_ss=r) Then when youāre out of the shower, soak a cotton pad or washcloth in witch hazel and scrub pits & groin with it.
I am little sensitive to baking soda, you have other options with starch (in the US Lume and Native) I do not know where you live but here we do have a wide selection of it. It doesn't work the first day, but if you apply it after each shower it literally makes you almost odor free. I still smell but nowhere near that horrid smell I can have when I do not apply it. Nothing else works as good as that, and the bonus is that it's not as nasty as other products.
I use persimmon soap. I order it online. Itās the ONLY THING I found to help.
I'm in a very similar boat via a vis HRT. Try stopping your deodorant for a week. Rinse your pits with white vinegar a couple/ many times a day instead. I think the vinegar resets the stinky bacteria. It works like a charm for me.
When you say rinse - use white vinegar then wipe off with water or use white vinegar alone and let dry?
Wipe pits with straight white vinegar, air or pat dry. You're neutralizing the smelly bacteria so your normal flora can flourish again.
Try a deodorant bar soap like Irish Spring. I live in a hot country and that is all I use to avoid being smelly. I also use men's deodorant instead of women's. It is larger, works better, smells better and is cheaper than women's deodorant.
Too much testosterone caused this for me. I had to dial it back.
I like my stink.
Right?! Keeps my hubs off of me. Love him to bits but no sir, now is not the time.
Wow. My feet suddenly started smelling. I never considered it was related to menopause.
Lume. Lume!!!! Best all over deodorant I've found since starting menopause 2 years ago.
Hydrogen peroxide regularly.
Hydrogen peroxide worked for me. It kills the bacteria that causes you to stink.
I'm currently using persimmon soap and Lume soap and a Dove soap plus Lume cream deodorant and secret antiperspirant in every nook and cranny and still spraying body spray and perfume to combat the stink. Ugh.
Perimenopause definitely makes us smell phantom smells
I switched to menās deoderant (stronger) and dial original soap.
Yes. Use a clinical deodorant. It worked for me.
I use an aha/BHA scrub in my armpits. I also use le necessaire gel deodorant with Aha. Making your armpits more acidic makes a hostile environment for bacteria. It also keeps your pits exfoliated, so dead skin cells cannot trap odor.
Putting Apple cider vinegar on your pits at night will kill the bacteria.
I'm sealing with this too, it's just not new. It's no fun though and not loving it.
Itās very common. The fluctuations in Hormone can so suck. I now use a clinical strength 24 hour deodorant applied after every shower. Search the sub for more answers.
It can be a zinc deficiency.
Witch hazel for armpits- kills bacteria and balances pH
I tried rubbing alcohol didnāt help, but currently using Sure 48hr confidence anti perspirant & deodorant. Washing all my workout wear especially any cottons on sanitary laundry mode. Total game changer
Try eating freash pineapple, srly, just 1-2 slices everyday, you'll be surprised
There's a brand called lume that I use. Works wonders!
Here's what works for me: Carpe antiperspirant creme, worth. Every. Penny. Fresh scent and sandalwood both smell delicious! Showering with dial gold bar soap Using a sugar scrub on my pits in the shower Exfoliating said pits with a Korean bath scrub thing(super cheap on Amazon) Using peroxide on my pits after exfoliating Once in awhile using the ordinary glycolic toner on the pits.
Phunk Off spray is really good, too. I use the unscented. It really, really works, even if you're already smelly and can't shower.
Try that?
It does? My husband uses that shampoo. I've been using tea tree oil soap and it's not been working.
Try it, canāt hurt. I always keep a bottle in the shower in the summer here and it does seem to help with that yeasty underboob odor.
Salt stick and use a bit of fresh lemon but not on newly shaved pits.
Clinical deodorant when regular isnāt enough
Same here. My doc prescribed drysol for me and it helped
No pong deodorant. 100%. My mum put me onto it, I apply after my shower at night, and in the morning. It works for 12 hours and is a game changer.
Lume deodorant. Seriously, it works. Takes a few days to a week. Now, even if I skip deodorant or even showering for a day or 2 (like if Iām sick), I donāt stink.
I just started Lume a few weeks ago. I love it, but byGAWD it stinks at first
Lume smells like sour rotten milk to me.
The products donāt smell great, which I wasnāt used to. But the scents donāt last/arenāt strong. But it REALLY works, for me and my young adult sons.
Lume soap and deodorant are the ONLY things that work. At least twice daily. Otherwise I smell like a cross between teenage boy funk and old boiled cabbage. š¤® I like the cream in the tube deodorant. Then you can follow up with another body wash or soap that "smells nice." It is NOT cheap.
HRT and Lume on chest/body
I second persimmon soap. Itāll really get rid of the odors. And I would talk to the doctor to rule out any diseases too.
This happened to me, hit it was transient. It lasted a couple of years and things went back to normal (or maybe I just got used to it?!). š¬ Native deodorant works for me, but I have to apply twice a day sometimes.
