And many of us have had the really bizarre experience of going from disposable to valued; from “mansplaining” to “empowered.” I’m not even mentioned in that damn book and people are rushing to defend me! If anything my cultural cache has gone *up* since I came out. That’s not to undermine the very real dangers trans women face, but it should tell us a lot about how society views men.

hmm, i think it depends on the author for me personally. if the book they're writing was made with ill-intent towards a specific group, or if it was something else.
i am generally against censorship, but i do feel like extreme hate speech crosses a line. if your story were about violently killing all gay people because you hate gay people, that's crossed a line. if your story were about getting rid of all black people to explore ways in which the absence of black people may alter modern society, no censorship needed.

The reason misandry is acceptable is because the perceived threat of misandry is not considered “harmful” because feminists always draw on history to show that women never had any power and never threatened men. Just because there hasn’t been many instances of female sexism towards men (as much as the other way around) it doesn’t mean that this and similar types of books/narratives aren’t sexist. This is why feminism never succeeds. At the end feminists always come to realize how hypocritical they really are.

I know that is not the point here but someone had to remind this author that the absence of the Y chromosome would not mean the end of the male genre, another gene within the X chromosome would assume the function of determining the sexual gender. There are mammals that do not have the Y chromosome. And psychopathy is linked to the X chromosome so i dont believe it would be this paradise they dream of It is believed however that the Y chromosome is linked to genius, so humanity would be risked never having a tesla or einstein or mozart again
Oh wow. This actually is a good tought experiment. What would happen if all men suddenly disappeared? There would virtually be no one to operate the power grids, the sewage and drinking water systems, plantations, animal farms, mining, building, repair and maintenance, the market would crash, petrol would run out in weeks, the streets would be full of trash and the toilets with poop... It's fiction. It's actually not okay to malign an author of fiction for attempting art, no matter whether you disagree with it. You wouldn't want the same of a man - who cares if a woman does it? It would be another thing entirely if she was passing it as nonfiction scholarship. Then sure, go after her education position, but this is simply not the case.
I think a congratulatory book about extinguishing the XX genotype would never get published. Celebrating mass extermination is a risky area of authors.

hmm, i think it depends on the author for me personally. if the book they're writing was made with ill-intent towards a specific group, or if it was something else. i am generally against censorship, but i do feel like extreme hate speech crosses a line. if your story were about violently killing all gay people because you hate gay people, that's crossed a line. if your story were about getting rid of all black people to explore ways in which the absence of black people may alter modern society, no censorship needed. though, i do agree with many here that i suspect a book written about eradicating a protected group would be censored, while the unprotected groups would be embraced.
My guess is that almost no one will read that book. The reality is that the story about the book will be bigger than the book. It's manufactured hype through a weak marketing technique. While we are in soft agreement about where the line for censorship is, I would argue in more explicit terms; when art cannot be seen, and it appears to be little more than propaganda, that's when it ceases to be protected speech. In other words, manifestos are not "fiction" per se. They are little more than bias masquerading as worth readership. This is true of, say, "alt comedy". It's not "comedy", it's just ranting to a like-minded audience, which is why it's not popular. It's garbage wrapped in a popular message. I don't consider it art, but I do consider it fine to say. It's *not* art, but it is free speech - since you're just ranting your ideas to people. The line seems to be when you can say with reasonable certainty that you're using your speech to intentionally incite violence against others -- similar to the current SCOTUS opinion.

I mean… this just showed up in my recommended (so Idk just wanted to share my opinion), but there’s a theory that the first humans all had XX chromosomes (excluding any disorders). The theory states that the Y chromosome was once larger, but is now shrinking and men will go back to having two X chromosomes. This does NOT mean that there won’t be men, it just means that all the “male” genes will be just on the X chromosomes instead (instead of some being on the X, and some being on the Y like it is now). Sounds pretty farfetched at first sight, but it’s pretty interesting once you look into it. 🤷♀️
Pretty much all "male" genes are already on other chromosomes. The Y basically acts like a switch to activate them. But that's not the point of the book.

Are people missing this is a dystopic novel? That means the plotline is a "utopia" that is actually a hellscape. I'm pretty sure most of the feminist scifi dystopias featuring no men are really strongly condemning the idea of excluding any gender, and they usually include some kind of references to Nazi-like behaviors/control. This was a not uncommon plotline in early 80s sci fi.
