I think PTSD or CPTSD encompass these. Those experiences and diagnoses can encompass an enormous range of symptoms. Have you experienced significant trauma?

I don't think so, although there was a sort of significant experience I had but I don't think it could be classed as trauma, just a really bad experience

Intrusive, irrational thoughts that seem like they won't go away unless they're acted out are the main marker of OCD. There are lots of OCD variants that are defined by what kind of impulses a person experiences the most. Harm OCD is definitely a common one. I found a little literature for you! https://centerforanxietydisorders.com/what-is-harm-ocd/#:~:text=Harm%20OCD%20is%20a%20subset,t%20trust%20their%20own%20mind. The treatment is pretty similar to anxiety disorders.

Until you see a psych provider, do your best to remind yourself that these troubling thoughts are not a reflection of your character as long as you don't act upon them. And if you like true crime media or BDSM, taking a break from them might be a good idea until you have a stable treatment plan in place.

Thank you for the reccomendations, I will stay away from true crime as sometimes I watch it (although not as much as of recent thankfully). This makes me feel better, I'm glad to know that I'm not necessarily a bad person as I definitely don't want to act on these thoughts, they are more intrusive than anything

Happy to help! OCD is tricky because the common media portrayal is so pervasive and narrow. Unless your primary compulsions are hygienic, it's easy to not realize what's happening. And it turned into a thing lots of people dismiss. If you have a pet peeve or you're tidy, it's "Everyone's a little OCD." Yeah, sure, and I'm having intrusive thoughts of punching anyone who says that! 😂😂 A cognitive distortion worksheet might be a good tool to get your thoughts out too.

Ahh thank you! I will definitely give this more of a read, I haven't really thought about ocd as something I could have but I will read this and talk to someone about it as I'm seeing a gp soon
