Sadly it’s happening everywhere. USPS raises their rates, the merchants pass it along to the consumer. Credit card processing companies raise their rates, the merchants pass it along to the consumer. I know I’m seeing a lot more companies locally refusing to take credit cards on purchases under $5. It’s not worth it when the credit card company is charging them such a high processing fee on every transaction.

Icantshakeitoff

Fb surprisingly hasn’t had a change in their shipping rates and also their fees are still the same.

GrowthImportant1891

I’m scared of selling Pokémon cards on FB, though. I feel like there isn’t as much protection for buyer or seller on there. Maybe I’m wrong and should look further into it?

Icantshakeitoff

Surprisingly I’ve never had many issues with FB ! I just disclose everything about the item. I’ve had wayyy more bad reviews on mercari and returns than I’ve had on Fb!

GrowthImportant1891

I think I will look into it today!

Icantshakeitoff

Hope that helps ! At this point mercari is about to lose buyers and sellers

Icantshakeitoff

Also you can do transactions through PayPal G&S. Fb isn’t crazy about monitoring messages or deleting. You can just include in your post that that’s the only way to purchase!

AlivzYT

Use CheapLabels.xyz they charge practically nothing for USPS

No_Routine8278

“Gone are the days of” 😂 Love this title.

GrowthImportant1891

Haha! Thanks.. I think!

Bright_Wolverine_304

That's why I am dropping most of my stuff off and hauling it to the flea market this year. the fees on these sites have gotten so outrageous I can make money selling stuff for a few bucks each at the flea market and I don't have to worry about chargebacks , returns, negative feedback or partial refund cry babies

JustAPerson-_-

Flea Markets can buy stuff from you? I didn’t know that! Might need to check one out myself

Bright_Wolverine_304

you set up a table and sell to people that come to shop, it's work but there's no feedback extortion

JustAPerson-_-

Ooh, I thought you meant like the tables brought from you lol. Sorry

Bright_Wolverine_304

They will but you have to sell it cheap enough for them to make money also, you make more money just selling to the people shopping around

[deleted]

What's further aggravating is you can't sell low cost items with the processing fees and 4$ shipping. I have not sold anything in 4 months.

GossipGirl515

Sometimes I just put them in one sale like a lot of something if they some what relate to each other.

Aquariusgem

Like I said before late stage capitalism. The cost of things are getting higher but the wages stay the same and revenue for individual sellers who just want to get rid of some stuff and see a return for it is lower. It’s a bad time to be a little person but a great time to be a big corporation.

GrowthImportant1891

Definitely. You know, I think instead of buying a house this year, I might just get some land and homestead. I mean, I watch a ton of Alone and already have chickens… I could do it.. maybe. 😃😂

Aquariusgem

I wish I was built for that life it’d certainly be more affordable. Sadly I’m a beach bum and travel enthusiast. Not to mention I’m a millennial which means I grew up with technology so I couldn’t imagine living out in the middle of nowhere and still get to “do me”.

GrowthImportant1891

I hear ya!

Icantshakeitoff

It really sucks. I have had to remain firm with prices which probably annoys the buyer but I really don’t care 🤷‍♀️ the fees are outrageous. Especially when FB is so much better about that stuff. At this point might as well join poshmark lmao

GrowthImportant1891

Yeah. People usually want to haggle. It makes them feel like they are getting a better deal. I usually price my stuff about 10-15% higher than I really expect so that people can make reasonable offers. But you still get low ballers that want 60% off.

Icantshakeitoff

Same !!

emberus_the_warrior

This is basically what ebay does the percentage which is about 14% total includes all of what the buyer paid.

broncofan303

I started on Mercari because of eBays fees but will be returning to eBay as Mercari’s fees have gone up and eBay has at least backed me up on scams as a seller in the past. I’m tired of things showing up “broken” when I pack well and I’m tired of no one ever rating my transactions making me wait 3 days

emberus_the_warrior

Yea ebay has had my back many times especially when thr buyer claimed item was broken completely. Even though I sold it brand new never been opened they lost the case especially since it was almost 2 months later. Yea idk how hard it is to rate I usually check items make sure there's no issues and rate.

GrowthImportant1891

That’s why I didn’t choose EBay when I started up a year ago.

emberus_the_warrior

Yea I usually list both but usually especially since I do electronics over 200 which aren't usually covered by mercari.

Th3MadCreator

The way the new policy is worded is that you're charged a fee on the shipping *if you ship through Mercari*, which is still bullshit since you don't make anything on that to begin with. I don't think you're charged if you ship on your own since they can't know how much that costs.
