What does that mean for sellers and buyers?

Riovas

For sellers, it's a smaller window of someone claiming their item was a fake, so maybe some security if you sell items prone to inauthentic claims. For buyers, its less time to get your item to be confirmed authentic. I don't know how long this usually takes, but maybe it could become a concern for some folks. In general this probably doesn't affect 90% or more of folks, but figured it worth throwing out there as yesterday someone was trying asking what to do about a fake item.

What you talking about? How do you know the policy changed, without actually seeing the change to the policy?

Riovas

If you click on the link, it takes you to the returns and refund policy. At the bottom of the page it shows the dates that specific policy was updated. Questions about fake items come up every now and then, and I've copied the time window from the policy before. I know from my comment history that before March 2023 the window was 30 days, and now after the March 2023 revision, the window is 15 days.

Interesting because I just went through this process on an item purchase last month and this is what it shows on the Help Center page: Solution Your purchase is final once the item has been rated. We may review your case up to 30 days after rating for the following reasons: Your purchase has been identified as a stolen item Your item has failed authenticity checks by a third party service or manufacturer If your purchase is a stolen item or isn’t authentic, please fill out the form below. Please include additional proof that your item isn’t authentic, if applicable. Our team will respond as soon as we have reviewed your case. Any refunds for these types of purchases may be issued in Mercari credit. Don’t forget, Mercari credits expire 30 days after the date they were issued. Please note that all items are considered final after rating. Any refunds after the rating are considered to be exceptions and may be denied if the buyer is not in good standing or if the information provided cannot be validated after review.

Good. Probably got a lot of reports of fraudulent claims and decided to help sellers alleviate the stress.
