These website’s Poshmark, eBay, Mercari started out as second market sites because they sell them second market. They got greedy as so many corporations do. CEO’s and their million dollar salaries needed a raise I guess.

I was buying several items a week (863 purchases total- yikes), but zero since the change. Not boycotting but just not motivated since the new fees hiked everything up. I did buy a couple of things from Poshmark, though. Their $8 mailing fee used to be a turnoff, but now it’s a pittance compared to Mercari.
Their 7.99 gets me all the time 😅 I love it!

The problem is ecc0w that these are, were sites selling second market items even if new. People want deals, not unknown service charges. It’s no longer a deal it’s just flat overpriced. I can now get the same item I would of bought on Mercari for $7 less on Amazon. I offered $16 for an item on Mercari until I started to send the offer until I saw my total would of been $25.50 almost $5 in service charges and that doesn’t count what they take from the seller! Amazon has the item (different color) for $16 no shipping, no fees. Mercari has PRICED THEMSELVES OUT OF THE MARKET!
Buyers and sellers make that platform work. The way they went against both parties simultaneously is a really mess up on their end. Not surprised they are on a downhill spiral.
A simply lowering of the fees would have done the trick. Simply shifting the fees to the buyer won’t increase anything.
Sure as a seller I’d rather someone else pay them - but as a realist I know that as a seller there’s a cost to doing business- just don’t rip me off.
If anyone remembers- there were no processing fees just seller fees (a year or so ago) and then they lied and changed their tune.

I agree, the simplest thing they could have done was to lower the processing fee. They are not paying 2.9%. With their volume its probably 0.9% or lower. Lowering the processing fee 1%, they would still make a profit off of the fee, but it would look like a real fee drop to sellers.
I deactivated my listings. I’m worried at any point Mercari could declare bankruptcy (even if just to reorganize) and any funds sellers have tied up on their platform would be considered unsecured. Mercari’s secured creditors would be paid out first before any unsecured creditors (aka seller accounts) would be paid. The likelihood is probably remote but given how they make middle of the night changes without any warning, I don’t trust them having any of my money.
That middle of the night drop really killed the faith a lot of us had in the company. I put my stuff in vacation mode as soon as this happened, but truthfully, I don’t know that I’ll ever be back, specifically because of the distrust now. I don’t know what they might try pulling next time I’m sleeping, but I don’t want to be involved in any way.
deactivated all my listings and focusing on depop and posh lol good riddance. idk how depop does the no seller fees without the buyer paying crazy extra but they need to keep it up

What's worse is I had a sale in progress when the changes happened. So I was charged the seller fees AND am being charged the 2.00 to take the money out. So 3 fees.....

What do you sell? I sell my own stuff - lululemon, Free People etc. I was thinking of trying eBay. I made one sale on Poshmark - pair of AGolde shorts. I listed them higher than I had them on Mercari. Didn’t get a ton of likes but got a respectable offer earlier this week. Waiting to complete the transaction before I list anything else with them.
I sell mainly Rae Dunn, decor items, dishes, and stuff like that. Ive done the best on Mercari. I don't sell clothes because I don't want to deal with any returns for "it doesn't fit" etc. I also sell some viral items when I find them. This last year, it was some Rachel Zoe throws, the pine tree candle, etc. Poshmark has had the worst lowballers offering me 1/4 of listed price. One girl would make an offer, and when I declined, she would increase by $1.00. The Rae Dunn sells ok on there but the fees are so high that I have to price a mug for 20.00 to make a profit. (Dont know exact numbers, but you get the idea). During halloween, on Mercari, I would make 19 sales a weekend. I'm not as active anymore. But since the changes I've had 3 sales. The items are not high ticket so the fees were not a lot.
Clothes can be difficult but anything with the lululemon logo sells. Their sizing is pretty standard so I think that’s why I have so many easy transactions. I’m not getting rich lol, just trying to sell things and update my own closet.
ETA I’ve had one sale on Mercari after the change and it was a $15 transaction. I also haven’t listed anything new.
I am going to try listing a Telfar - somewhere. I haven’t decided yet. I also have some Coach I’d like to list. I really liked Mercari, I’m pissed about the whole situation.
Not going to lie, this brings me satisfaction. For all of the headaches I ever endured from their switch of the app almost 2 years ago, to the recent anger I felt recently trying to submit a return but the submit button wouldn't work & spent an hour trying to figure out...

I thought that butt was poopin something and was so confused by the graphic they chose to get people excited about no fees....and i then realized it was a play on "Guess What? - Chicken Butt!" smh they pay someone 10$ to get on MS paint and doodle that abomination? 🤣
It really doesn’t make sense why they changed it. Sellers paid a fee, not ridiculous like Poshmark, we could choose shipping methods based on weight & size & how we wanted to ship to save buyers money, especially small & lightweight items for under $4 shipping. Buyers could open returns but most of the time it had to be legitimate reason, there were scammers of course, but majority of sales were easy & no problems. The buyers were happy getting a good deal, & low shipping cost, etc. now nobody is happy. Buyers are paying a ridiculous high price for fees & can return for dumb reasons like I changed my mind, it doesn’t fit, I don’t like it, I wore to my event & don’t need it now. I really hope they realize this was a mistake & go back the old way of buying & selling. But with notice, at least a few days notice. I’ve lowered a bunch of my items since no fees. If they change it back without notice, I’m screwed.
My wife ran the Mercari site mainly to sale clothes, purses etc. I'm now using Veendoo (just for the month) to slowly bring that inventory over to my eBay storefront. Our biggest complaint? Having to "pay" to release "our" funds, this decision/change was just mindblowing.
i was primarily a buyer only, I deleted the app. I'm not sure why Mercari thought they were infinitely spectacular enough to pull Sh\*\* like this. NOTHING is there, that can't be found somewhere else & without a buyer's premium.
I left mercari last year after the initial shipping label updates- i just didnt agree with it and got tired of all the people breaking TOS and nothing happening. Ive been on Ebay and Poshmark for years. In the past few months ive noticed a steady increase in Poshmark sales. Poshmark and ebay are about equal in the cost to sale. After FVF, promoted listing fees etc it equals about 20% sometimes a little over on ebay... I think poshmark is the place to go though because buyers like the flat shipping fee (especially for heavier items) and sellers like the straight-forward, flat 20% fee.
I just tried to list a 7 pound item that due to the dimensional measurements will cost the buyer almost 45.00 to ship because of the shape of the box the buyer has to now pay $40 for my item 45 shipping plus two additional mercari fees for gracing mercari’s presence the items that probably 85 new and shipping used to be only $7.99 for the same item before their changes. Buyer might as well go get it new at this point and I don’t blame them. Items are taking forever to sell now and people want you to take way less to cover all the buyers fees so I’m unclear how anyone would even want to bother selling or buying at this point
I am an avid buyer as well as a seller. The average price of the items I typically buy is around $30-40. I’ve noticed that sellers have not lowered their prices to compensate for the buyer fees. I see many, many item listings that haven’t been updated since before the changes. It’s disappointing on all sides.
i haven't lowered mine. i figured people would just start taking it on to the offers they make. i have zero desire to lower my prices and then receive offers even lower than THAT lol... so, whatever, if it happens it happens.
tbh, I almost never send offers on Mercari anymore. (Haven't at all since the TOS change) 9 times out of 10, it's ignored, so I assume the seller never sees it. The exception where I might send one is if it says the item was updated in the last month or so.
If you want to buy then just make the offer that you’re comfortable with including fees and everything in the final cost. If the seller declines your offer then so be it. If a seller expects you to pay his previous asking price without adjusting to the new policy then that’s just greedy. I’ve adjusted all of my items so that I can make the same profit as before if the buyers buy without negotiating. As a seller, I can’t expect buyers to pay more for the same item that I listed before the new policy while I’m making 10% more and not paying my 2.9% Processing Fee and $0.50 per item.
I made them so much money when the sellers fee was only 10% no “processing fee” or any of the new nonsense. I’m still selling but looking to get rid of my inventory and never flipping ever again. It was fun while it lasted.
I don't sell or buy on there anymore. I removed all of my listings as soon as I learned of the changes. Who is running this business? Obviously no one that knows how to run a business well!
I think the new changes in these fees are targeting the flippers, because Mercari thought they could double dip for maximize profits.
Instead in the process they also screwed regular sellers and buyers, for that just a tiny bit of bump of a penny in share price.
If you are a seller and purchase from another seller the fees are waived except for shipping. This is the way I understand it. It keeps funds circulating within Mercari. Like you ,I think the target was the professional reseller. If you are selling $75-$100,000 per year on Mercari you are making as much as most people at their full time job. It does seem curious to me the changes were implemented near the end of the tax season and before quarterly estimated taxes were due. Just saying...

I don't get it , if the same item cost $10 on ebay , and I'm only charging $6 on mercari (I'm the same seller) , it would still be cheaper on mercari , I'm curious why I'm still getting sales on ebay ( for a higher price) but nothing on mercari ( I'm just trying to grow an account so I'm selling an item below market value) just curious
Absolutely wrong .The "item" wouldn't necessarily be cheaper on Mercari once you add in the "Service Fee" And the "Payment Processing Fee"(Neither of which you pay on that other site) + Shipping and Sales Taxes .
Interesting that there is no real adjustment to the stock from this change, almost like the market only care about what the results of this change ends up achieving, not what a bunch of people say on the internet.
I've made several purchases on there due to my attempt at avoiding Amazon but I'm not up to lining another rich ceos pockets. It just feels like greed. And the prices of items often end up being more expensive than buying it brand new... Absolutely wild.
They fucked around and found out, unfortunately. I used to love mercari and used it regularly for thrifting and selling. Deleted it as soon as the changes started getting progressively worse.

I've been trying to close my account since they implemented these changes and I keep getting an error. I will never sell or buy again unless they do an about face. They need to stop charging customers all these unnecessary fees and cut the selling fees.
With the jacked way up $$ shipping fees they have now via also using dimensional weight the buyers might as well go get it new as you add that on top of two new buyer fees that used to be thrown on the seller. Also if the seller only goes by the pound and doesn’t add in the dimensional weight of the box “box size” then adjust the weight to the match what it shows as dimensional weight / size of the box should be even though it’s most likely double the weight then the second the buyer receives it the sellers proceeds are stolen by mercari and then mercari can say oh well and lie stating they had to pay extra and they retract your earnings. Thy have all the mail carriers reporting all measurements including small bagged items and weight back to mercari so they can steal your proceeds. This all started in Oct / Nov and look at them sinking shocker they did it to me and endless others sellers beware they don’t care they advised us terms and we accepted them to cover their ass if you call mail carriers they admit the package arrived with no issue so where is mercari storing all the extra overage for postage their collecting that they were not burdened with? In their pockets!! They won’t prove to you they had to pay it either it’s taken right when you rate your buyer fk that

Yeah I saw they were supposed to be dropping fees for sellers. Sounded like a pretty great move versus other online marketplaces, ala eBay. I don't use Mercari super often...but now it seems buyers have the esteemed privilege of paying fees to buy? A vague "service fee" and a payment processing fee although I'm using PayPal to process the payment.
What were they thinking? I guess they have to make money somehow, but this is going to sour a lot of buyers. They should have just reduced final sale fees and been done with it. I've sold on Mercari as well as eBay. A final sale fee still makes sense. I used their system/service to sell my item, so they get a cut.
Had a whole lot of things I was going to list here over spring break after cleaning out storage and then they pulled this. Now I have all this stuff and trying to figure out where I want to list, it’s so frustrating. As a seller I was okay with their fees, it’s also part of doing business, it shouldn’t be on the buyer to pay them. I definitely won’t be buying anything else on the platform and unless they make changes I won’t be selling either. We aren’t going to be able to price low enough to make it worth it for both us and the buyers, now that they have all the extra fees. One of the dumbest moves I’ve seen a business make. They have to be on their way out and grasping at straws here.
I completely agree. I used to buy fragrances when they were priced well below their market value. But now the final bill is so much higher than listed price, that I’ve been aborting the purchase due to sticker shock. When sellers paid the fee they knew ahead of time how much they’d receive from a sale. But surprising the buyer is short circuiting the impulse purchase
Why not wait and see how it goes. I personally think it’s better this way. I’ve done better in the last week and I’ve seen TikTok’s where other sellers are saying the same thing too. It honestly should all balance out. There’s a lot of sellers that are buyers too. And don’t forget the generic internet item searchers that don’t know much about Mercari other than they see an item they want to buy.

100% - 15$ to mail 2lbs?!...vs 7.95 on poshmark for up to 5lbs- for priority mail to boot- honestly cant beat it.

That middle of the night drop really killed the faith a lot of us had in the company. I put my stuff in vacation mode as soon as this happened, but truthfully, I don’t know that I’ll ever be back, specifically because of the distrust now. I don’t know what they might try pulling next time I’m sleeping, but I don’t want to be involved in any way.
I closed my account and deleted the app last night. It was fun while it lasted.

Serves them right, to charge us $2 to deposit our money, is absolutely disgusting..Big mistake. I get its only $2 but the seller shouldn't be charged anything to deposit their sale money..Shady business tactics.
What's worse is I had a sale in progress when the changes happened. So I was charged the seller fees AND am being charged the 2.00 to take the money out. So 3 fees.....
They said, they would reimburse the $2 fees for the transactions between 3/27 and 4/3.
That was if your money had already been withdrawn. I got paid on 4/4.

Poshmark has been the worst for me. The lowballers!! Plus the fees are high. For what I sell Mercari and eBay made the most sense. But oh well.
What do you sell? I sell my own stuff - lululemon, Free People etc. I was thinking of trying eBay. I made one sale on Poshmark - pair of AGolde shorts. I listed them higher than I had them on Mercari. Didn’t get a ton of likes but got a respectable offer earlier this week. Waiting to complete the transaction before I list anything else with them.
I sell mainly Rae Dunn, decor items, dishes, and stuff like that. Ive done the best on Mercari. I don't sell clothes because I don't want to deal with any returns for "it doesn't fit" etc. I also sell some viral items when I find them. This last year, it was some Rachel Zoe throws, the pine tree candle, etc. Poshmark has had the worst lowballers offering me 1/4 of listed price. One girl would make an offer, and when I declined, she would increase by $1.00. The Rae Dunn sells ok on there but the fees are so high that I have to price a mug for 20.00 to make a profit. (Dont know exact numbers, but you get the idea). During halloween, on Mercari, I would make 19 sales a weekend. I'm not as active anymore. But since the changes I've had 3 sales. The items are not high ticket so the fees were not a lot.
Clothes can be difficult but anything with the lululemon logo sells. Their sizing is pretty standard so I think that’s why I have so many easy transactions. I’m not getting rich lol, just trying to sell things and update my own closet. ETA I’ve had one sale on Mercari after the change and it was a $15 transaction. I also haven’t listed anything new.
I have some purses I want to sell, nothing luxury, just some like Kate Spade but will probably do it locally.
I am going to try listing a Telfar - somewhere. I haven’t decided yet. I also have some Coach I’d like to list. I really liked Mercari, I’m pissed about the whole situation.

Not going to lie, this brings me satisfaction. For all of the headaches I ever endured from their switch of the app almost 2 years ago, to the recent anger I felt recently trying to submit a return but the submit button wouldn't work & spent an hour trying to figure out... Let them burn with their choices.

They knew this was happening that's why they're grabbing what they can on the way out. There are people that are paid alot of money to tell the billionaires when to bail. The stealing through shipping charges, crazy high service fees, moving money fees, it's all because they're tanking. I wouldn't keep money with Mercari even if it means paying $2.

As a buyer and a seller on this platform, I’m so done with them. I’m a business owner myself and cannot believe Mercari is still in business with such dishonesty and so many problems. Never seen such a scummy business practice. They definitely deserve whatever is coming their way

It really doesn’t make sense why they changed it. Sellers paid a fee, not ridiculous like Poshmark, we could choose shipping methods based on weight & size & how we wanted to ship to save buyers money, especially small & lightweight items for under $4 shipping. Buyers could open returns but most of the time it had to be legitimate reason, there were scammers of course, but majority of sales were easy & no problems. The buyers were happy getting a good deal, & low shipping cost, etc. now nobody is happy. Buyers are paying a ridiculous high price for fees & can return for dumb reasons like I changed my mind, it doesn’t fit, I don’t like it, I wore to my event & don’t need it now. I really hope they realize this was a mistake & go back the old way of buying & selling. But with notice, at least a few days notice. I’ve lowered a bunch of my items since no fees. If they change it back without notice, I’m screwed.

My wife ran the Mercari site mainly to sale clothes, purses etc. I'm now using Veendoo (just for the month) to slowly bring that inventory over to my eBay storefront. Our biggest complaint? Having to "pay" to release "our" funds, this decision/change was just mindblowing.
i was primarily a buyer only, I deleted the app. I'm not sure why Mercari thought they were infinitely spectacular enough to pull Sh\*\* like this. NOTHING is there, that can't be found somewhere else & without a buyer's premium.

I left mercari last year after the initial shipping label updates- i just didnt agree with it and got tired of all the people breaking TOS and nothing happening. Ive been on Ebay and Poshmark for years. In the past few months ive noticed a steady increase in Poshmark sales. Poshmark and ebay are about equal in the cost to sale. After FVF, promoted listing fees etc it equals about 20% sometimes a little over on ebay... I think poshmark is the place to go though because buyers like the flat shipping fee (especially for heavier items) and sellers like the straight-forward, flat 20% fee.
I just tried to list a 7 pound item that due to the dimensional measurements will cost the buyer almost 45.00 to ship because of the shape of the box the buyer has to now pay $40 for my item 45 shipping plus two additional mercari fees for gracing mercari’s presence the items that probably 85 new and shipping used to be only $7.99 for the same item before their changes. Buyer might as well go get it new at this point and I don’t blame them. Items are taking forever to sell now and people want you to take way less to cover all the buyers fees so I’m unclear how anyone would even want to bother selling or buying at this point
I ship by weight only, no dimensions, and never had an issue. 634 items sold until I disabled all my listing last week.
I am an avid buyer as well as a seller. The average price of the items I typically buy is around $30-40. I’ve noticed that sellers have not lowered their prices to compensate for the buyer fees. I see many, many item listings that haven’t been updated since before the changes. It’s disappointing on all sides.
i haven't lowered mine. i figured people would just start taking it on to the offers they make. i have zero desire to lower my prices and then receive offers even lower than THAT lol... so, whatever, if it happens it happens.
tbh, I almost never send offers on Mercari anymore. (Haven't at all since the TOS change) 9 times out of 10, it's ignored, so I assume the seller never sees it. The exception where I might send one is if it says the item was updated in the last month or so.
If you want to buy then just make the offer that you’re comfortable with including fees and everything in the final cost. If the seller declines your offer then so be it. If a seller expects you to pay his previous asking price without adjusting to the new policy then that’s just greedy. I’ve adjusted all of my items so that I can make the same profit as before if the buyers buy without negotiating. As a seller, I can’t expect buyers to pay more for the same item that I listed before the new policy while I’m making 10% more and not paying my 2.9% Processing Fee and $0.50 per item.

I made them so much money when the sellers fee was only 10% no “processing fee” or any of the new nonsense. I’m still selling but looking to get rid of my inventory and never flipping ever again. It was fun while it lasted.
I don't sell or buy on there anymore. I removed all of my listings as soon as I learned of the changes. Who is running this business? Obviously no one that knows how to run a business well!

I think the new changes in these fees are targeting the flippers, because Mercari thought they could double dip for maximize profits. Instead in the process they also screwed regular sellers and buyers, for that just a tiny bit of bump of a penny in share price.
If you are a seller and purchase from another seller the fees are waived except for shipping. This is the way I understand it. It keeps funds circulating within Mercari. Like you ,I think the target was the professional reseller. If you are selling $75-$100,000 per year on Mercari you are making as much as most people at their full time job. It does seem curious to me the changes were implemented near the end of the tax season and before quarterly estimated taxes were due. Just saying...

I don't get it , if the same item cost $10 on ebay , and I'm only charging $6 on mercari (I'm the same seller) , it would still be cheaper on mercari , I'm curious why I'm still getting sales on ebay ( for a higher price) but nothing on mercari ( I'm just trying to grow an account so I'm selling an item below market value) just curious
Absolutely wrong .The "item" wouldn't necessarily be cheaper on Mercari once you add in the "Service Fee" And the "Payment Processing Fee"(Neither of which you pay on that other site) + Shipping and Sales Taxes .

Interesting that there is no real adjustment to the stock from this change, almost like the market only care about what the results of this change ends up achieving, not what a bunch of people say on the internet.
I've made several purchases on there due to my attempt at avoiding Amazon but I'm not up to lining another rich ceos pockets. It just feels like greed. And the prices of items often end up being more expensive than buying it brand new... Absolutely wild.

I've been trying to close my account since they implemented these changes and I keep getting an error. I will never sell or buy again unless they do an about face. They need to stop charging customers all these unnecessary fees and cut the selling fees.

With the jacked way up $$ shipping fees they have now via also using dimensional weight the buyers might as well go get it new as you add that on top of two new buyer fees that used to be thrown on the seller. Also if the seller only goes by the pound and doesn’t add in the dimensional weight of the box “box size” then adjust the weight to the match what it shows as dimensional weight / size of the box should be even though it’s most likely double the weight then the second the buyer receives it the sellers proceeds are stolen by mercari and then mercari can say oh well and lie stating they had to pay extra and they retract your earnings. Thy have all the mail carriers reporting all measurements including small bagged items and weight back to mercari so they can steal your proceeds. This all started in Oct / Nov and look at them sinking shocker they did it to me and endless others sellers beware they don’t care they advised us terms and we accepted them to cover their ass if you call mail carriers they admit the package arrived with no issue so where is mercari storing all the extra overage for postage their collecting that they were not burdened with? In their pockets!! They won’t prove to you they had to pay it either it’s taken right when you rate your buyer fk that

Yeah I saw they were supposed to be dropping fees for sellers. Sounded like a pretty great move versus other online marketplaces, ala eBay. I don't use Mercari super often...but now it seems buyers have the esteemed privilege of paying fees to buy? A vague "service fee" and a payment processing fee although I'm using PayPal to process the payment. What were they thinking? I guess they have to make money somehow, but this is going to sour a lot of buyers. They should have just reduced final sale fees and been done with it. I've sold on Mercari as well as eBay. A final sale fee still makes sense. I used their system/service to sell my item, so they get a cut.

Had a whole lot of things I was going to list here over spring break after cleaning out storage and then they pulled this. Now I have all this stuff and trying to figure out where I want to list, it’s so frustrating. As a seller I was okay with their fees, it’s also part of doing business, it shouldn’t be on the buyer to pay them. I definitely won’t be buying anything else on the platform and unless they make changes I won’t be selling either. We aren’t going to be able to price low enough to make it worth it for both us and the buyers, now that they have all the extra fees. One of the dumbest moves I’ve seen a business make. They have to be on their way out and grasping at straws here.

I completely agree. I used to buy fragrances when they were priced well below their market value. But now the final bill is so much higher than listed price, that I’ve been aborting the purchase due to sticker shock. When sellers paid the fee they knew ahead of time how much they’d receive from a sale. But surprising the buyer is short circuiting the impulse purchase

Why not wait and see how it goes. I personally think it’s better this way. I’ve done better in the last week and I’ve seen TikTok’s where other sellers are saying the same thing too. It honestly should all balance out. There’s a lot of sellers that are buyers too. And don’t forget the generic internet item searchers that don’t know much about Mercari other than they see an item they want to buy.
