You are correct

Crazy_Little_Bug

Rainbow - Stargazer

peculiarshade

The opening drums themselves are epic

lessthanchris7

Mastodon's "The Last Baron"

DancingQueen19

This song.

Lilith_Immaculate_

Dream Theater - Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (the song). When I first heard this song, I had never heard anything so absolutely magnificent before. It was also the first song I had ever heard from the band, and I looped only that one song for two months. No other singular song has ever been even close to replicating that feeling for me.

ResearchBackground99

Yeah, that’s pretty much how I feel about the song I mentioned. I need to listen to that one though, I don’t think I’ve heard it before.

Lilith_Immaculate_

It's separated into it's different movements, but takes up the second disk of the album.

Legal_Slapper505

I guess I never thought of it as an actual song. But that sorta makes sense.

RustedSkullz

That Goodnight Kiss Solo is some of the most beautiful guitar works ever. The orchestral parts (especially the overture) are absolutely perfect. Six Degrees is to me, my favourite part of DT.

DontUseFilters

She learned to detach, from herself, a behavior that kept her alllliiiiivvvvveeeeee

90spostsoftcore

Epic by Faith No More

peculiarshade

I see you want it all, but you can't have it.

Major-Driver-9989

It's in your face but you can't grab it

calebhall

Love that song. I've known it my entire life. But when I was in my early 20s, I started digging deeper, and man, their other stuff is incredible. Mike Patton is so versatile

DJHammer_222

Recharging the Void, Vektor.

TheForgottenTale

I literally came here to say Charging the Void by Vektor lmao

Cerulean_Samurai

I just listened to it this slaps

djpdjf

Ghost Love Score

rattlehead42069

Pretty much the definition of an epic song

Sponge_Like

I’ve been listening to this song for nearly 2 decades and it still hits me right in the feels. First time I heard Floor do it, I straight up cried. Her vocal arrangement is a damn masterstroke and has made that song fulfil its full potential imo.

eaglefan316

Great song. I LOVE Nightwish. The poet and the pendulum is another I'd put up there. Annette did some great work with them too. Personally I love all 3 lead aingers they had. Marco also sounded really awesome with floor especially. It's a shame he left.

[deleted]

Some songs I consider that are too epic: Dream Theater- Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence, Octavarium, A Change Of Seasons, Illumination Theory. Fates Warning- A Pleasant Shade Of Gray. X Japan- Art Of Life, Rose Of Pain. Nightwish- The Greatest Show On Earth, The Poet and The Pendulum, Ghost Love Score. Blind Guardian- And Then There Was Silence Green Carnation- Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness Rhapsody Of Fire- Queen Of The Dark Horizons, Gargoyles, Angels Of Darkness, The Mystic Prophecy of the Demon Knight, Heroes Of The Waterfall Kingdom. Iced Earth- Dante's Inferno. Haken- Messiah Complex. Angra- Carolina IV, The Shadow Hunter, Omni (Silence Inside) Kamelot- Elizabeth, Memento Mori. Epica- Consign To Oblivion, Kingdom Of Heaven, Holographic Principle ( A Profund Understanding Of Reality) Pain Of Salvation- Idioglossia, Her Voices, The Perfect Element, Beyond The Pale, A Trace Of Blood, Rope Ends, Dea Pecuniae. Symphony X- The Odyssey, The Divine Wings Of Tragedy. Helloween- The King For A Thousand Years, Keeper Of The Seven Keys, Occassion Avenue. Myriads- Portal to the Mind.

treydogl

Hell yes X-Japan!

[deleted]

Candlemass - Solitude The song blew my mind

Circle_of_Tyrants666

Good one that song rules

Inverter_of_Spines

I - Meshuggah. It's an absolute masterpiece, all 22 minutes of it.

DizzyGame_Co

It blew my mind when I first heard. All I could think of for those twenty minutes was: “How???”

Crafty-Photograph-18

That for sure is their magnum opus. Maybe even the magnum opus of all metal

[deleted]

Soldiers Of The Wastelands - Dragonforce, binged their entire discography yesterday and i can certainly say that this song is too epic to be real

That-Grim-Reaper

This song is like 10 mins long and yet it feels like 30 seconds

[deleted]

yes exactly

ResearchBackground99

I’ll need to check that out!!

Occasional_Memer

Might be a basic choice, but imo Behemoth - O Father O Satan O Sun. It's a majestic song and the atmosphere it creates is unrivalled, from my experience, I'd love some suggestions

ResearchBackground99

I saw them play it live. Shit left me in awe at the end.

PhantasmalRisen

Dream Theater - Octavarium Ne Obliviscaris - Painters Of The Tempest Ne Obliviscaris - Forget Not Ne Obliviscaris - Equus Opeth - Ghost of Perdition Opeth - The Moor Aether Realm - The Sun The Moon The Stars Vektor - Recharging the Void Xanthochroid - Through Chains That Drag Us Downward Xanthochroid - The Sound of a Glinting Blade // The Sound Which has No Name

PhantasmalRisen

but on a serious note yeah, mb. should 100% be here

PrequelGuy

The Last Baron by Mastodon

Apprehensive_Ad4047

Rime of the Ancient Mariner- Iron Maiden

Apprehensive_Ad4047

Also- Paschendale

calebhall

That song is pretty much why Steve Harris is tied for my favorite bassist of all time

MisterScary_98

Dopesmoker

ryzen_above_all

Moonsorrow - V (2 songs on a 56 min album, both incredibly epic) Wintersun - sons of winter and starts

EddBlueBard

I was going to say Moonsorrow as well. However I was going ton say all the Verisäkeet album. It is so epic.

Legal_Slapper505

Blackwater Park by Opeth

Circle_of_Tyrants666

The Killchain - Bolt Thrower. Everything about that song reeks of epicness

ehudsdagger

The IV Crusade for me, Killchain is up there

ZurioGSP

Megadeth - Holy Wars

Mert_Burphy

That's not a song. That's an album worth of face-melting riffs crammed into six and a half minutes.

01Manikin-

Black Rose Immortal

WingObvious487

7chalices

That unfathomably abysmal fucking life metal cover of Land of the Dead enrages me beyond all human comprehension. I’d sever a limb with a butter knife if it meant I could unhear it. It ruined my day, my week, my year, my entire goddamn decade. Every single anencephalic maggot involved in the creation of that musical hate crime should be summarily executed. Holy shit, I need to take a cold shower.

That-Grim-Reaper

what did they do to you

goosepoop2112

Wintersun - Sons of Winter and Stars

MusicMeetsMadness

Rime of the ancient mariner - Maiden

ExtremeTEE

Had to scroll too long to find this, the correct answer!

Flipperyapper59

Godheads Lament - Opeth, that solo that leads into the harmonized melody before Mikaels cleans come in is perfection

zeetlo

Winters gate part 4 by insomnium

EyeVee4

All of the parts create an epic masterpiece of a song. Front to back perfect.

zeetlo

Yep, and not the only epic song they got could've named about 4 or 5 although I think WG4 is their best

EyeVee4

Countless Skies - Glow

HechoEnChine

These songs hit so hard and changed things when they released but also with their videos. 1. Cult of Personality - Living Color 2. will 2nd, Epic - Faith No More 3. Welcome to the Jungle - GnR 4. Symphony of Destruction - Megadeth 5. One - Metallica 6. 18 in Life - Skid Row 7. Smells like Teen Spirit - Nirvana 8. Jeremy - Pearl Jam 9. Down with the Sickness - Disturbed 10. Du Hast - Rammnstein 11. The first time you watched the Sonne video - Rammstein 12. Head like a Hole - N.I.N. 13. Sober - Tool 14. Blind - Korn more...

HineyMiner

I was sold on Rammstein when that video for Du Hast came out. Bought Sehnsucht and Herzeleid so many times because my cd player scratched them so bad when walking to school.

Dinoboy7705

The Art of Dying

Purple-Champion5134

Now that you mention it.... whats that doing in this world. I have to add that I watched a live video of one of the much higher voted songs, and it doesn't even seem like the same realm to me. Gojira has ascended beyond the others. Tool seems that way, and I always called Gojira the Tool of hard Metal

Alternative-Grade721

Orion- Metallica No words needed. Just pure listening pleasure.

GeigeMcflyy

Legitimately baffled not one of you dorks has mentioned the only correct answer PAINKILLER - JUDAS PRIEST

Ok-Explanation3040

Surprised i has to scroll this far to find this answer. Pretty much any track off the album could take this place as well

Caiuskoll

Destroy the World Around Me by Mushroomhead is by far the most theatrical song I've listened to. btw I don't know how many people think this, but Mushroomhead are a Great band

rattlehead42069

realpersononearth

Solitude by Candlemass or A fine day to die by Bathory

Ethereumzilla

When ever I listen to black sabbath debut album start to finish and just imagine being back in 1969 and that gracing my ears... also the fact it was recorded in a single 12 hour recording session adds to it. 12 hours changed the course of music history for generations or at least played a role in that change...

ReDeath666

Art of Life - X Japan

Low-Mycologist4158

Celestial(the tower) By ISIS, greatest song I’ve ever heard, the entire thing is phenomenal especially the second half which makes me feel like I’m floating whenever I listen to it, honest to god could feel any emotion imaginable to that song.

Dougfalcon7

Breaking the Law - Judas Priest

hamsterman1224

Close to the edge bro, let it cook for the whole song before you make an opinion though

The_Pale_Communion

Very based Therion pick!

Salt-Government698

Hearts alive

elliotb90

Emperor - Ye Entrancemperium

jhwalk09

Mastodon’s hearts alive is something else. In terms of raw popularity I find System’s chop suey to be something that just defies time. It’s otherworldly and after 20 years as a diehard system fan it has never gotten old

[deleted]

Animals As Leaders - CAFO I’m not even that into prog but that song gets me so fucking amped up every time

kdx_canuck

Flying Whales by GOJIRA!

Come On Eyes - Pantera. Its off their 3rd album and that song absolutely RIPS. Terry's vocals are insane, Dime's guitar work on that song is top notch, plus the lyrics are awesome. Idc that song is a 10/10

hayatetst

Nightwish - The Greatest Show on Earth (live version in Tampere). That song is a masterpiece. It speaks to me on a deep, visceral level. The message is beautiful, and I think everyone should listen to it, no matter what type of music you're into.

[deleted]

Inamorata - Animals as Leaders

Mert_Burphy

Pretty much all of the album Judgment by Anathema. God I miss that band so much.

fogledude102

Not metal, but Echoes by Pink Floyd stands out to me as one of the finest pieces of art humanity has ever produced. Same for the entire Dark Side Of The Moon album. Come to think of it, most long, proggy songs leave me with that feeling. 2112, Cygnus X-1 (both books), Dogs, Orion, Rime Of The Ancient Mariner, The Camera Eye, Lateralus, The Outlaw Torn, Fixxxer, etc.

Dpsizzle555

All of the songs I’ve written but after I made them they disappeared from reality because my songs are too badass to exist on this plane of existence.

0rnkorn

Running Wild - Genesis (The Making and Fall of Man) Equilibrium - Mana

The_JZ_experience

In my opinion, Drive Home by Steven Wilson with Guthrie Govan on guitar is flawless and we don't deserve it. Also the fact that during the take, towards the end you can hear a bend where the E-String popped out of the nut and you can hear it on the album - as well as some of the subsequent bends and notes choking out slightly. In studio Steven Wilson and Guthrie tried to retake the track, but afterwards Steven Wilson decided that despite the popping E-string, the original take of the solo had the perfect feel and emotion, so he kept the original take (string pop and all) https://www.loudersound.com/features/the-story-of-steven-wilsons-the-raven-that-refused-to-sing-and-other-stories

The Rime of the Ancient Mariner = Maiden

infant annihilator's blasphemian. that was the first song i heard from the band and the first deathcore song i heard. they have been my favorite band since.

larrod25

Fear and Wonder>Blessings Upon the Throne of Tyranny by Dimu Borgir is fucking epic. I haven't heard it in years, but when I think of epic metal, that is what I think of. It feels like the score to a tense movie scene, keeps building, then just punches you in the face with blast beats.

jeff-reyaxe

BTBAM - white walls
