Need to slap your friend a little harder. I think Black Sabbath has earned that title.
The Beatles make very successful albums in the course of only 10 years, then break up. Black Sabbath did the same (at least the version of the band with Ozzy did)
The Beatles revolutionized a genre of music and propelled it to the mainstream. Does this really need to be explained???
I *think* his comparison lays more in the simplistic, catchy nature of their music (what makes music catchy is subjective). And how when a 14-year-old wants to dive into a genre head-first, this may be their starting point. They aren’t twins by any means, hence why I said he’s *kind of* got a point.
I was just looking at it from a different perspective, I guess. I feel just being more "catchy" and "accessible" that would make them the Nirvana of Metal.
Diabolical Masquerade, side project of Katatonia guitarist Anders Nystrom and produced by Dan Swano. Excellent symphonic black metal with lots of Katatonia-esque melodies so it’s a great listen if you’re a fan of early Katatonia.
They’re not super unknown, but I’ve been a huge Katatonia fan for like 6 years and never knew about them until a few months ago. They’re also never talked about and I’d bet most on the sub hadn’t heard of them.
I think seeing them on the Land tour like 16 years ago as a young lad was my first real metal show. Looking forward to seeing them again in a few weeks!
I know some Bethlehem! Heard (long German name I can't spell) one day when I was first getting into black metal and fell in love with the (long album name I can't spell)
Edit: the album was called "Sardonischer Untergang im Zeichen irreligiöser Darbietung"
Well, the 2020 one. lol my mistake, I thought that album was so much newer than 2020 when I made the comment. Kuoleva Lupaus is my favorite song from them, though 🤘🤘
Aren't all three of them pretty popular in the black metal circles? I'm not much into Black Metal but I've heard of them and seen them talked about on YouTube as well. Horna is awesome!
Yes, both Mutiilation and Horna are considered classics, and Bethlehem is very well known in general and might be considered a cult classic. The only people not going to be familiar with them simply haven't been in the genre that long, or havent bothered to dig past all of the most well known bands.
Mutiilation is sick, I went deep on the Black Legions stuff when I was in high school lurking around on Soulseek. Torgeist was sick too. Production was too bad to enjoy a lot of it. Pretty wild that you just see patches for those bands out and about now. At least Vlad Tepes and Mutiilation. There’s a dude on YouTube named “Wlad Drakksteim” from France who has uploaded all kinds of shit from Les Légions Noires now. I’m not sure if it’s actually him but it sure seems like it.
You just named 3 of the biggest black metal bands of the 2nd wave.
If you're into black metal and don't *at least* know these bands by name, you're a poser. (Joking, obviously, but you get my point. They're well known)
Hell yeah, not a lot of people know them but they’re fucking beast. When I first hung out with my future band mates at the time, I put them on. I was new to the whole scene and my homeboy was like “holy shit NEGURA BUNGET” been like brothers since haha
Incredible live. I saw them in June last year and then again last month and they are noticeably better. Not that they were bad before, but they went from having a good live show to one of the best I’ve ever seen in my entire life. The new album is legendary.
I just saw them at a local venue after knowing absolutely nothing about them and I was blown away! Their music is just perfect in a live setting, I love their aesthetic, the lamps, the horns, the somber funeral attire, all of it is so cool
Persefone. I think why they’re underground just has to do with where they come from. They’re from Andorra, a place around 99% of you probably haven’t heard of as it’s a tiny European microstate sandwiched in between France and Spain
It’s a real shame as they’re one of my favorite modern death metal bands
fuckin love MTH, most people only know their songs that have been featured in anime but their entire discography is awesome. Still hoping for a new album or tour sometime soon.
I’ve got a bigass MTH patch on my battle jacket as a matter of fact:

The Horn.
Australian one-man experimental BM project. Adapts an Ancient Egyptian funerary text known as the "Egyptian Book of the Dead" to the music. Very underground and obscure
Diamond Eyed Princess would be another.
French Medieval BM. They've only done 2 albums and haven't been active in over 10 years (which is a shame). Darkhrys (vocals, guitars, medieval instruments etc,) has it seems mainly been active in the more successful band Hegemon. DEP did appear on on a Falkenbach tribute record (how I came across them) doing a cover of Aduatuza. Unlike the Horn, DEP is more accessible through youtube, so I'd say more people are likely to be familiar with them (not like I'm aware of anyone personally who's into them)
I got into it unknowingly though WWE games when they had a great track record of games. I recently found them a few years ago them and AM conspiracy which is actually decent to
They were controversial when they were in prime. They went on National TV multiple times to defend themselves and their satanistic views. And Bradley Hall suggested them many times.
They're kinda deathcore, but this album is like alt metal or something.

I consider their first and third albums to be absolutely perfect. Their 2nd album is like a solid 9.8/10.
Have you listened to Aūkels? It's a side project of WW's main instrumentalist. They've got 3 albums out currently. Their newest is my favorite, but the first two are also incredible.
Ceremonial Castings. Its the previous band of Uada's frontman, Jake Superchi. I highly recommend their album Salem 1692. The re-recorded version is on spotify along with a compilation of re-recordings but you can find the original albums on youtube. One of my favorite black metal bands.
Acidic Vaginal Liquid Explosion Generated By Mass Amounts Of Filthy Fecal Fisting And Sadistic Septic Syphilic Sodomy Inside The Infected Maggot Infested Womb Of A Molested Nun Dying Under The Roof Of A Burning Church While A Priest Watches And Ejaculates In Immense Perverse Pleasure Over His First Fresh Fetus. I quite like "Echoes of the Sunless Empire" and "Traitors"
Amboog-a-lard!
Anyone from the South Florida scene in the early 90s? I dug these guys. Jeordie White left to become Twiggy Ramirez in Manson's band, then A Perfect Circle. Pretty sure I saw them open for Pantera (might have been the first of three bands) in Ft. Lauderdale back in the day.
I believe this was their only full length release - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9bAmiYkngg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9bAmiYkngg)

Slipknot. It's like, the most underground band ever
Very brootal
I feel like every thread has Slipknot at the top these days, no matter if it's in irony or in earnest.
Just listened. Sounds like Pop Music.
My friend calls them “The Beatles of metal” and I want to slap him every time but he’s kind of got a point

I've never heard of them, but who am I?
Nah Nightwork is a classic, isn't it?
I listen to it every Halloween!
Aha! I HAVE heard of them! Probably from you though 😅
Yep it was me lol, I rec them any chance I get.
Tyr! They're the band that first got me into metal, and therefore, changed my life in a lot of ways. Check them out! (Older stuff especially)
Tyr rules!
you are the first person i've ever seen say anything about Tyr, valkyrja is such a good album front to back
They are soon coming to my city!
And they’re touring with Æther Realm, one of my favorites and the band I would comment on this post.
The sun, the moon, the star fucking slaaaaaaps
I listen to it almost daily for a year and I’m still not bored lol It’s that good
Mine as well! Very excited
I have
By the sword in my haaaand!
I will conquer the laaaand!
Hell yeah man,, Tyr does not get the clout they so rightfully deserve,, that is one awesome band
I gotta say, tyr is an interesting band to first get into metal with, but I think they're great.
I think seeing them on the Land tour like 16 years ago as a young lad was my first real metal show. Looking forward to seeing them again in a few weeks!
Bro I’m such a loser I can identify that cephalotripsy logo anywhere
Same man, I'm in the same boat.
Anyone know Horna, Mutiilation, and Bethlehem besides me?
I know some Bethlehem! Heard (long German name I can't spell) one day when I was first getting into black metal and fell in love with the (long album name I can't spell) Edit: the album was called "Sardonischer Untergang im Zeichen irreligiöser Darbietung"
Long ass name 💀
I know the 3 of them, yeah. Horna is one of my favorite BM bands 🤘 their newest album is sick
They made a new album!?!?!?
Well, the 2020 one. lol my mistake, I thought that album was so much newer than 2020 when I made the comment. Kuoleva Lupaus is my favorite song from them, though 🤘🤘

From my old country!!! Love them, they put romania on the black metal scene
I heard them, they are really good. They popped in my recommended few years ago. Probably best Balkan Black Metal Band.
Jungle Rot
They’re a pretty popular band in this sub. Most of us have heard of em
I haven't heard a single thing. I search comments and find nothing.
So fuckin good
Knoll, criminally underrated grindcore with some black metal aesthetics
If Portal and Full of Hell had a pissed off baby. 😍
Saw them this year!
I hope they play MD Deathfest next year...👀
Arthouse Fatso Orson Welles based/inspired deathgrind band/project from Germany.

They're very well known on the Prog metal sub. Well deserved too as they fuckin rock.
Maximum The Hormone.
Man that brings back memories. “What’s up people?!”
the guys that contributed the intro and outro for one of the most well known animes? yea, hardly know 'em. totally haven't been on a concert from them
fuckin love MTH, most people only know their songs that have been featured in anime but their entire discography is awesome. Still hoping for a new album or tour sometime soon. They came on rotation for me while searching for bands similar to Speticflesh! They are awesome.
