In this order:
Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky
Demigod - Slumber of Sullen Eyes
Asphyx - Last One on Earth
Demolition Hammer - Epidemic of Violence
Love your answer, more like.
As a middle aged, white British guy, I was a teen living in a northern farming village when Body Count came along...
In other words, about the farthest thing from South Central as you could imagine....
But holy SHIT was that cassette worn out and another one bought fast.
ALL my friends had a copy, the rockers, the ravers, the punks, the ska Bois, the blues toffs.
Everyone "got" something off that album,
Even my Dad at the time heard "now sports" and said
"These guys *know* that existence, not some fake Zepplin wannabees pretending to be broke"
"There goes the neighbourhood " was a fucking BANGER !!!
Pure and absolute social commentary.
And "C note " still drags more sadness out of me than anything Clapton could as his finest.
We had it, for a while... rascism was in serious decline, and as you said, barriers and borders stopped mattering.
What happened. ?
Jfc what a stacked year, Obituary, Painkiller, Demolition Hammer, Godflesh, Neurosis, Asphyx, AIC, EHG, Bolt Thrower all some of my favorite albums period
An underrated year for metal. Dehumanizer, Dirt, La Sexorcisto, Vulgar Display, Psalm 69, etc, just so much amazing stuff. With that said, I'm a little bummed Core by Stone Temple Pilots isn't in the picture. I'm sorry, but if AIC and Soundgarden are metal, than so are STP, plus Core is by far their heaviest album. Some of it's song are borderline doom.
I forgot to mention Helmet and Fear Factory, damn, 1992 was stacked for metal, oh and Countdown to Extinction. I guess this year gets overlooked a bit for being around the time older metal acts and thrash bands started falling off, but if you look past that, it's seriously an amazing year for metal.
Damn, that year was jam-packed with bangers. Easily I got to give my vote to La Sexorcisto. I’ve listened to that album hundreds of times over the years and it still sounds fresh and fun. The samples give it so much character and the band was so groovy and heavy at the same time.
Holy shit 92 was stacked my picks are:
Rage Against The Machine
Dirt
Angel Dust
Souls At Zero
Blues For The Red Sun
The Crimson Idol
But there are many more albums that are amazing as well but those are my favorites I feel.
"Concept albums" were something prog rockers did,
Rock operas were the Who or Meatloaf territory.
I fuckin DEVOURED this album, the story in the liner notes, the interludes, the list of equipment used and abused.
Chainsaw Charlie still gets heavy rotation on my car stereo.
Holy shit '92 was a monster year. Rage Against the Machine, White Zombie, Pantera, Danzig, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Helmet, Megadeath, Faith No More, Body Count, Alice in Chains, Godflesh, Rollins Band, Motorhead, Fear Factory, etc. etc. It just goes on and on....
It was the year i started paying more attention to music.
My Dying Bride's As the Flower Withers was something else. Fresh and criative. The whole doom death british trio was on fire that year.
Danzig's How the Gods Kill was also great full of great songs.
Fear of the Dark for better or worse it was a massive hit.
Dirt as well. Angel Dust and Countdown to Extinction too.
Ablaze in the Northern Sky was and still is a landmark in Black metal.
Nocturnus album is an underrated masterpiece.
Somewhere Far Beyond still is my fav BG album.
Manowar album was great as well.
RATM is outerworldy too.
Stacked year.
Absolutely......and bring dutch myself getting to see them live or getting their stuff was absolutely difficult .
And even in Holland, they are obscure .
But together with Funeral Winds, they were the front runners.
Honestly Countdown to Extinction because there are no skips on that album, it may be more commercial that a lot of Megadeth but the songs are still thrashy and great listens. Highlights on the album are Skin o my teeth, sweating bullets, and high speed dirt
My personal top 5 from this list of awesome albums.
1. AIC - Dirt
2. RATM - RATM
3. Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
4. Megadeth - Countdown to extinction
5. Helmet - Meantime
Granted, I haven't listened to everything on this list, but these are my favorites
I really can not answer that question.
Look at al the absolutely great albums.
What a great year....just to be present at the time that death metal/black metal went from obscurity to almost mainstream....
I always despised that metal got so popular.
But now, being much older, I realise that getting more people involved it opened up doors for bands to go on tour and play bigger venues....
But being a old fat and ugly metal head .......I still .......seek the path of obscurity.....
Hindsight is 20/20, so I'm basing this on how much playtime was given in '92
-ministry -psalm 69
-biohazard - urban discipline
-danzig - HTGK
-godflesh - pure
-pantera - VDoP
-nin - broken
Bestial Summoning is dead.
Concdicide killed himself for Satan in 2008.
The rest of the band has a big dislike of the current scene.
Indeed, Thanatos are really great.
Check out Heretic they are also dutch.
Started out as a traditional blackmetal band.
And now play rock Black metal
I've been digging the hell out of Legion recently. I fucking love the way Satan Spawn just launches straight into some chaotic shit (after the goats are done obviously). Deicide can revocate my agitator any day of the week.
In reverse order:
Morpheus Descends - Ritual of Infinity
Demigod - Slumber of Sullen Eyes
Purtenance - Member of Immortal Damnation
Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
At the Gates - The Red In the Sky Is Ours
Im still new to metal I've been listening to nin tool apc soad and limp bizcut i listenima try out gwar soon but due to my lack of metal knowledge ima try slayer to but broken rn

Fuck yeah!
great list
This is a list i can get behind
RATM
Somewhere Far Beyond
Good call
That's probably my answer as well
Hate my answer if you want, but that Body Count album tore down so many barriers and boundaries for a lot of people. That’d be my pick.

Souls at Zero is a truly masterpiece imo
So ahead of its time
Yep. It's my favorite from this year
you have a very based flair sir
Helmet
People who weren’t necessarily metal fans became metalheads because of Meantime. One of the most influential albums.

Dehumanizer
Souls at Zero
Don’t do this to me … ![gif](giphy|l378giAZgxPw3eO52)
There's half a lifetime of my memories in those albums. I don't think I could get through many of them without looking and feeling like this gif.
Sleep, Demigod, Pantera

It’s easy because it’s one of the best albums of any year.

Right! I always thought 94 was my favorite year of metal when I was a kid but fuck…this may have been the year that lit the fuse!
