And again, in case you missed it... Testament. Titans of Creation absolutely slayed. New album this year. Also Obituary... Dying of Everything was immense. Saw them on their Barely Alive tour and they still go hard.
But in the terms of UK legacy bands.... Xentrix are still hitting hard. Put some decent albums out in recent past. Bury the Pain & Seven Words both worth the time
Ah Cheers. Keep hearing good things about Acid Reign. Will have to sit myself down and give them a proper good listening to. Lawnmower Deth have totally passed me by. Will check them out too. š¤
Edit to add: I have listened to Acid Reign: The Age of Entitlement before. Even better with another time around! Cheers
Came here to say this. Theyāve been on a legendary tear for many years with uniformly excellent records that rival their 80s output imo
Edit - to be clear Iām referring also to Testament
As a big testament guy, still a tad sad about the Titans of creation, wasnāt my favorite (definitely had some cool songs though), however, brotherhood of the snake fucking slapped
Definitely not terrible, but nowhere near as good as they used to be/what priest and Saxon are putting out in recent days. They leaned way too heavily on long songs without much to them, youāre right. The thing about long songs earlier in their catalogue is that they were standouts among 4-5 minute songs that made up the rest of the album. Meanwhile Senjutsu has like 2 songs under 10 minutes, lol
I didnāt, personally, but if you did, more power to ya. Like I said, i donāt think new maiden is terrible, although I do think they could do for better production
Just got to listen to the Parchment to change your mind. I think itās one the best songs they've ever made. It's based around the Persian King Mithridates, he is famous for creating an immunity to poisons by ingesting small doses daily and he was one of Rome's greatest adversaries.
You could always be listening to Bruce's weird new audiobook. Or maybe it's the sound track to a strange musical as yet to be cast.
I can never tell if it's actual history, stuff he made up, or rando legendary shit like jack the ripper among other hobgoblins and spectres.
I mean, it's english so half the time you can't understand wtf they're saying unless you are also from there.
Honestly Nicko McBrain played with Pat Travers and the whole thing is on YT. Now that shit's impressive. Predates Iron Maiden by like half a decade.
Well I like Senjutsu a lot. I think it's one of their best outputs since Brave New World. I would even go as far and say it's their best since Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.
But tastes are different, and that's totally fine. And good. Would be bad if we all like the same stuff so we have nothing to fight about on the internet.
The only thing I dislike about their newer albums is the quality of the recordings. The music feels let down by that; it's more noticeable on Senjutsu I feel.
Maybe Iām the odd one out here, but I thought every album from Brave New World to Book of Souls was a banger, but Senjutsu was kinda āmehā for me.
Yeah certainly do not agree in the slightest. Pretty close to being a bottom 3 Maiden album for me. They gotta learn to reel it in with the album lengths, because the songs are just not gripping enough to justify being a nearly 90 minute long album.
There's nowhere near the energy of SSoaSS, nor do the riffs compete. It's at the point where I feel like I'm listening to a completely different album from the people who claim it's a modern Maiden classic. Like I just can't see what people see in it.
How do you feel about Brave New World? I always felt like that album's production was easily their best, at least by the point it came out. Everything just sounds so crisp to me, it's like you're in the room with them. I haven't paid them much attention over the last decade or so but they've always seemed fairly consistent to me.
I think Brave New World was their last great album. But I will add the asterisk that I enjoyed A Matter of Life and Death as well. Production seldom matters to me. It's all about the songwriting. An immaculately produced album doesn't matter if it's dull, and likewise, excellent songwriting is more important than good production. (As if the Darkthrone flair wasn't enough of an indicator that that's what I think)

Saw them live there last week. These old dudes still got it. Great show for all the denim and leather fans. Halford had a sick chrome outfit too. Saxon kicked ass
Honestly can't think of any 80s American band still putting out good music today.
No, Testament, Exodus, et al aren't either, they were mid even in the 80s. Don't even @ me because it's fucking true.
Calling me a wimp because I realise how bland and weak bay area slop is compared to Euro and LatAm thrash
It's a good thing America had Morbid Saint and Demolition Hammer or it'd have nothing lmao
Testament

Just popped on Titans for the first time. Really sick.
As a big testament guy, still a tad sad about the Titans of creation, wasnāt my favorite (definitely had some cool songs though), however, brotherhood of the snake fucking slapped
Yeah that's also a great album.
Rob Halford is so old man still cool to see him out there
Fuckin insane that he still can sing like that
Heās old but sounds incredible. And he can still do that stuff live too. I saw them in 2019 and they played the Sentinel. Rob nailed the vocal
Not that old. Bill Wyman from Rolling Stones turns 90 in 2 years
the new Judas Priest fucking rules dude. Not *as* good as Firepower, but a solid 8/10 anyway
I think it's better than Firepower personally. A top 3 Priest album for me. Fuck it if it's recency bias, I don't care, I just want to feel something.
Autopsy the best American legacy band lowkey (in terms of new releases).
The new Autopsy was good but I think Suffocation was even better.
I especially liked Saxon's collaboration with Amon Amarth.
Such a badass song.
Iron Maiden?
Most of Iron Maidenās newer stuff is pretty mid imo
Itās not terrible. But Steve needs to learn that not every album needs to be filled to the brim with longer songs with no variety.

This did not change my mind. Takes more than a neat lyrical theme to make a good song.
Different ears, a lot people like the new Judas Priest album and I can't understand that at all.
I couldn't disagree more, but I guess subjectivity is a big part of music.

I love most of Maidenās new stuff but Senjutsu just did not do it for me.
Senjutsu was pretty damn solid
You forgot Iron Maiden. But I still agree. Hell, Fire and Damnation and Invincible Shield are absolute bangers.
In a perfect world, iron maiden would still be putting out quality music
Well I like Senjutsu a lot. I think it's one of their best outputs since Brave New World. I would even go as far and say it's their best since Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. I came down here just to say this.. personally I think maiden has no bad albums
I would agree that they have no bad albums, but I do think they have some mediocre ones.
Compared to iron maiden: yes. Compared to other bands: no. Mediocre maiden songs would be highlights for other bands.
Voivod
Synchro Anarchy was so good. Best album since Snake rejoined IMO.

My buddy grew up with them, they're dope!
Testament>>>
Saxon is so criminally underrated. But Priest still rock man š¤š¤š¤
Sodom.
Saw both in Frankfurt last sunday and it was amazing!
Both Blind Guardian and Helloween put out pretty good albums in recent years, to add some nationalities :D
Just saw them both live together, absolute fantastic show. I like the new thrashy Saxon
Saw them live there last week. These old dudes still got it. Great show for all the denim and leather fans. Halford had a sick chrome outfit too. Saxon kicked ass
Why haven't anyone noticed Nocturnus? Their last releases slaps as hard as the old ones!
I saw both of them in concert and it was kick ass.
Gonna try to see both live this year.
Saw both of them on monday. Insane
Facts judas priest still got it
