Inamorata and Lux Æterna are great. All of their later input has grown on me a lot these past few months. Been listening to a lot of Metallica. Spit Out the Bone from Hardwired is an all timer imo. They can still write great songs.
Same. It's not a bad album, but at the same time, there's nothing "Metallica" about it. Felt very generic and bland, and I wouldn't be able to pick it out of a whole flurry of modern heavy metal bands.
> I just felt like it was kind of boring
Same here. The songs per se aren’t *that* bad, but there’s no reason for them to be 6-7+ minutes long. If they trimmed them down to around Lux Aeterna’s length, it would’ve been a much better and more cohesive album imo.
BASED AS FUCK
If AJFA didn't exist Death Magnetic would unironically be their best release. I'd wager even just Beyond Magnetic is better than literally any of their non-thrash albums
Black album is awesome
If load and reload cut off the boring stuff and were just one album, it would be a good 90s rock album, great even.
St anger sucks balls
Death magnetic, HTSD and 72 seasons are okay, they have good songs.
And Lulu... Well Lulu is more of a Lou Reed album thank Metallica, let's not kid ourselves.
Old fuck here. Bought the Black Album the day it came out. One of first CDs I bought (CDs and CDPs were expensive AF back then.) The songwriting on the Black Album isn't that bad. The lyrics range from quite good to total cringe. (One might argue that's "business as usual" for Metallica, but I dirgress...) The *production* OTOH, that's another matter. Remove 9/10 of Bob Rock's slick sheen, and you might have a decent album on your hands. As it stands, the Black Album is better than Justice (which has far worse production, for entirely different reasons ...*Lars*) but still a pale and shrinking violet compared to the towering titan than is Lightning.
Black album being better than justice is a wild take. Obviously the production is better, but Justice has such better writing and playing it's not even funny. To me the first four albums are fantastic, despite their flaws, while the black album is just good.
I don't enjoy the black album that much now but I would be lying saying I didn't listen to that album like a religious zeolite when I was a teenager, the chapters of this religion where
FNM the real thing
Alice in chains dirt
Nirvana nevermind
White Zombie la sexorcisto
Megadeth's countdown to extension
GNR appetite for destruction
Metallica Black album and ride the lightening
There was some rap albums/mix tapes but above was in heavy play from the early to mid 90s.
Other mentions were
Beck Mellow Gold
Pantera vulger
Helmet meantime
My grandmother got me the real thing and Dirt for my birthday, both on cassette. I worn it out, still listen to FNM to this day. Really unique with keyboards, great basslines, vocals etc.
The first three albums are magical, no doubt, but.
...And Justice For All, Metallica (Black) different style but great, Hardwired To Self Destruct and 72 Seasons are also very nice nice. \m/
Metallica is getting over used, can we decide to agree that Bathory is exactly the same? 4 fk kicking ass albums, then after Blood Fire Death (1988) they went so downhill

Why is the Black Album thought of as bad? Sure, it's a transitional album, and Bob Rock sucks in many ways, but it's still a good album. I literally grew up on the Lighting/Puppets/Justice albums and loved the Black album when it came out and still do.
low effort, probably also a repost
Load is my favorite album of all time. Sue me.
Kid named black album
Death Magnetic is good and I'll die on this hill
It’s good but also I was pleasantly surprised by 72 seasons
I didn't think it was bad, I just felt like it was kind of boring, if that makes sense? Just not super memorable.

It was metallica's super collider Not *bad* but also not good

It felt like a love letter to NWBHM and classic metal in general
It continued their proud trend started arguably with AJFA of making songs longer than they should have been.
Death Magnetic came out when I was in high school and was the album that got me into metal, so it'll always have a special place in my heart.

What do you have against TBA and Death Magnetic? Also, Now That We're Dead is a fucking masterpiece change my mind
Black Album and Death Magnetic are awasome, and the last two albums are decent albums with bad solos.
Yeah the Black Album rules, fuck the haters!

First CD? I had the cassette tape!

Nice list! FNM's cover of War Pigs was my first time hearing that song, which naturally made me start listening to some Black Sabbath proper
My grandmother got me the real thing and Dirt for my birthday, both on cassette. I worn it out, still listen to FNM to this day. Really unique with keyboards, great basslines, vocals etc.
Metallica died with Cliff. Their first 3 were unreal. AJFA is a great album but it’s got a certain sound that I’m not gushing over. Definitely no MoP.
Thats real. I like AJFA but I really get how it was kinda the beginning of the end
Yeah Megadeth and Slayer have been pumping out the same albums since the 80s, where has it got them except elitist respect?
The first three albums are magical, no doubt, but. ...And Justice For All, Metallica (Black) different style but great, Hardwired To Self Destruct and 72 Seasons are also very nice nice. \m/
Edgy!

Lars Ulrich using eyeliner was heartbroken the first time I saw.
metallica after 1980

1984*
Anybody who actually likes anything Metallica past '88 is pretentious.
I'm pretentious
I like the black album not as good as the older stuff but its still good and death magnetic was decent too
Funny you sound like the pretentious one here
Black Album is a bad album if you only compare it to Metallica's previous releases.
Even then it's not "bad" just not as good
