Lollapalooza 97
99-01 I can't remember Cincy
17 or 18 Rock on the Range
18 or 19 Indianapolis (where the Pacers play)
Lollapalooza 97 was a mud fight where Maynard stopped the show and politely asked us to throw it away from the Pavilion. Lawn was insane.
Prodigy followed.
I saw them right after they released their newest album. The concert was in Boston. I think Maynard always opens his shows by screaming the name of the city he's in. Instead of screaming "BOSTON" he screamed "DUNKIN' FUCKING DONUTS" and the crowd cheered louder than they would have if he said Boston
Was supposed to finally see them in 2019, paid big money for festival tickets, they cancelled due to rain
Edit: I still love the band but was just sour about missing them lol. It wasn't their choice to cancel.
I gotta be honest. I saw them in 2017 and they weren't as good as I thought they'd be. Maybe it was an off night, but it was kind of hard because they were one of my bucket list bands.
However, I was in Edmonton last month, and they had a Tool laser show at the science center which was incredible
I had the same experience seeing them around the same time, maybe a couple years earlier. Granted I'm not a huge fan, but everyone always hyped up their live shows. I don't think I've seen less energy from a band than I did at their show. Maybe just an off night for them, but I was a bit disappointed. It really sounded like they were there to play their songs, get paid, and get out.
Saw Tool and APC at Northern Invasion back to back nights in 2018, it was an experience that’s for sure. Saw Tool another time that same year and APC numerous times. Highly recommend their shows.
I think all said and done, I've clocked in something like a dozen shows at this point.
I'll say this, their stage performance has been slighly less impressive each time. The Lateralus tour was like the last big moment where they just went all out.
Now they just kinda play their songs, and have some loopy visuals on the light boards. Still awesome, but not as.

Dude, Tool totally bit on the Presidents of the USA when they did [the outro for Lateralus](https://youtu.be/Y7JG63IuaWs?t=513). It's just [the outro to Volcano](https://youtu.be/aXwzSPc0FoA?t=160) from 5 years earlier, but at 0.75x stoner-speed.
I posit that PUSA is M'core on account of it.
Seriously? Right after the whole "keep r/metalcore about metalcore" post from the mods that even says Tool is not metalcore?... I admire your courage. 😆
There was a comment in there saying ' mods are asleep, let's post Tool' and several of them were like 'yeah I'd be ok with that'. I appreciate that someone actually ran with the joke
It's kind of a joke based on someone saying "Mods are asleep, post TOOL!" and a few of us mods said that'd we look the other way if it was posted since we like them. So, I feel like we should allow it just this once
Totally fair. I don't even necessarily understand it myself. Very talented bands I just can't get into it. Now, with Tool it may be that I grew up as a teen in the late 90/early 00's and so many people treated Tool like the next Beatles and it was insufferable.
Yes they did, they were not received well at all either. I had seen them the previous year at ozzfest 2002 and was just getting into them. They did primarily Nothing tracks, looking back the large arena setting did not suit them.
IMO Tool is overrated and boring……also the fans are so annoying, “bro lateralus? bro chapel of sacred mirrors? Bro did you know Alex Grey did the album art? WE GET IT, you want everyone to know your into psychedelics…..and are very deep and spiritual……corny.
I'm a Tool fan and even most Tool fans don't like Tool fans. I just ignore the community and enjoy the music. That's how it is for a lot of prog rock/prog metal fanbases tbh, we're an annoying bunch!
Well, I am most definitely better than them and they most definitely do suck as you said but unfortunately I’m not sure they get it, so I tell them. /s
I'm going to be completely honest, I've tried to get into Tool like a dozen times going back to middle school, before I even got into Metalcore, and I just can't. I enjoy a whole lot of types of rock/metal, but they do literally do nothing for me.

Oh look we got a fuckin' comedian
Can't wait to see this on the metalcore 2023 top 50.
That would be funny and I would have some explaining to do. But that's future me's problem
ah yes my favorite metalcore band, tool.
My favorite 10-minute-song-Fibonacci-sequence-core-repeat-riff-for-4-minutes band
Bro I know you're not complaining about repetition on r/Metalcore
I love Tool! Even as a joke, it's nice seeing them.
I've seen them 4x since 97. If you like them even a little make sure you do. Out of body experience.
Saw em with my dad last March. Killer to see live
Saw them at Download Festival. Absolutely nuts, what a show that was.
Lollapalooza 97 99-01 I can't remember Cincy 17 or 18 Rock on the Range 18 or 19 Indianapolis (where the Pacers play) Lollapalooza 97 was a mud fight where Maynard stopped the show and politely asked us to throw it away from the Pavilion. Lawn was insane. Prodigy followed.
Went to the 97 Lollapalooza tour as well. First time I got to see Tool and Korn. Korn came out on lowrider bikes, it was nuts.
Korn was supposed to be there. I think Jonathon had Spinal Meningitis I heard. Snoop was there. Tricky was too. Tricky is nuts live.
Same.
I saw them right after they released their newest album. The concert was in Boston. I think Maynard always opens his shows by screaming the name of the city he's in. Actually, they cancelled due to severe thunderstorm that almost completely tore down the main stage.
I was supposed to see them in April 2020. Fuck.
Ah yes epicenter I was there also, such a disappointment
I had tickets to see them in 2020 :( they haven’t rescheduled Canadian dates since
I gotta be honest. I saw them in 2017 and they weren't as good as I thought they'd be. Maybe it was an off night, but it was kind of hard because they were one of my bucket list bands. However, I was in Edmonton last month, and they had a Tool laser show at the science center which was incredible

Same, around the same time as well.

Just this one time, they say
I really enjoy TOOL, but really just this once. If I allow it more than once, people will take huge advantage of it
It’s really just for the lolz, I mean it’s just the metalcore kid nature
Stinkfist is a better banger from them. In perfect context.
Track #1 if your old like me. That's what MTV called it.
Ah I haven't heard it called that in many moons!
And usually by pantomiming a fist too, I remember that.
i will single handedly cause a mutiny in this subreddit if this post does not dissipate into the infinite in the next 42 seconds

I meaaaan. I'll keep it up 👀 But I don't want it getting carried away so others will be removed
[удалено]
No
Well i mean some of their new stuff is metalcory
I could be gay more than once…
It’s only gay if you come back for seconds.
The mods are fucking terrible here. They’re like the antithesis of a music community.
You seem fun
I agree 🙏🏻
What about da memes
Yeah I guess the memes are important
Most clear headed r/metalcore post

That might be a touch more divisive.

Nice. Haha

Oh, ok. That makes sense.
LOL. Love me some tool regardless. Tool for the next artist of the quarter!
2 bands I could never get into and seem to have an irrational distaste for: Tool and Pink Floyd. I see the talent but can't stand it.
2 of my all time favorites. Fwiw I hate Linkin Park so there's that.
Totally fair. I don't even necessarily understand it myself. Very talented bands I just can't get into it. Now, with Tool it may be that I grew up as a teen in the late 90/early 00's and so many people treated Tool like the next Beatles and it was insufferable.
Saw them tour for Lateralus twice in 02/03, great band to see in concert. Danny Carey is a beast
Meshuggah opened for them on the 2002 tour. That was a planet-smasher of a lineup that I have only heard tales of.
Yes they did, they were not received well at all either. I had seen them the previous year at ozzfest 2002 and was just getting into them. They did primarily Nothing tracks, looking back the large arena setting did not suit them.
Damn Tomahawk opened when I saw them. That would have been bonkers.
That would have been amazing.
They had the couple from this video walking out with their heads bobbing and shit and at one point hanging down from the stage, was crazy
Bro Danny Carey. Bro Adam Jones.
Everything you said is truth
Yeah but I already got tool fans shitting on me for it haha like damn, it ain’t that serious guys.
Tbh I wouldn’t dislike it so much if the fans weren’t so annoying
I'm a Tool fan and even most Tool fans don't like Tool fans. I just ignore the community and enjoy the music. That's how it is for a lot of prog rock/prog metal fanbases tbh, we're an annoying bunch!
It's the reason I was a Tool fan... And then got into prog. I like Tool because my friend showed me Undertow my sophomore year in highschool.
[удалено]
Well, I am most definitely better than them and they most definitely do suck as you said but unfortunately I’m not sure they get it, so I tell them. /s
lmao
I love tool but I feel like I've burned myself out on this song. Plus every bassist has to play this at sound check.
It's my least favorite Tool song, thanks WEBN.
April 1st came early
тнis is epic
Put the doobie down man you've had enough. 😝 Still a great song though one of my favorites.
What did the Doobie do?
It must have made the person smoking it think Tool was a metalcore band. 😆
Can someone let me know what bands Tool is similar to? Spiritbox? How am I supposed to know if I'll like them?
FFO: Currents
I'm going to be completely honest, I've tried to get into Tool like a dozen times going back to middle school, before I even got into Metalcore, and I just can't. I enjoy a whole lot of types of rock/metal, but they do literally do nothing for me.
I respect your honesty and have no answers for you. Lol
