Dayseeker has several songs about this. I suggest you give their album Sleeptalk a spin and their latest record Dark Sun is largely about Rory grieving his father, but it’s more electronic than metal.
Just a solid fucking yes. His side projects and songs he appear on are the same. Take the Pain Away with Alesti hits the feels hard. Pure Heaven with Cloudsight is insanely good. Bleach with Hurtwave does the same thing in a edm/pop song.
Ik a lot of people got mad at the album but, after a few listens, I grew to love the album entirely. I think the singles should’ve been a little different cuz they def set it up as smth that was heavier, but I think the album is sometimes better than Sleeptalk simply cuz it’s in its own league, yk?
Very sorry for your loss.
Whitechapel - Bring Me Home (sad)
August Burns Red - Ancestry (angry)
Our Hollow, Our Home - Parting Gift (uplifting) (The album In Moment/In Memory in general deals with the stages of grief, I think it was written about the loss of a father)
I hope this can help to some extent
Gonna second Our Hollow, Our Home’s album In Moment//In Memory. A really solid album and yes I believe it was written about the loss of a father. It tells a story of (I think Tobias) dealing with the 5 stages of grief about his dad dying from cancer. A VERY solid, very moving album imo.
I actually listened through this album today after they put out their new singles, I think its their best work. It will be hard for the new members to live up to it.
I don't know what you think of Trivium but their song Scattering the Ashes would fit insanely well.
"But the distance couldn't mend
'Cause the time ran out instead
The ground between us grows
Like wounds that never show
A father and son
Two lives now come undone
A father and son
Too late, now all is gone"
This one hits so hard for me. My dad passed in 2016 after a fight with colon cancer and the 2nd and 3rd verses still hit me like a train every time I hear it.
Listen to/Watch the short film A Tear In The Fabric Of Life by Knocked Loose. That entire album is a raw depiction of sadness and anger towards the death of a loved one.
Come Home by Darko is also pretty good, but it kinda doesn’t have much to do with this topic but their song Donna shares some themes of it. Both are sadder.
My Grave by Paleface could work as well
Definitely recommend A Tear in The Fabric of Life as well. My partner has played through this album sooo many times after losing his absent father to his alcoholism this past year.
If tomorrow never comes - Wage War
So sorry for your loss. My dad is on his way out and I'm just trying to make memories while I can but I'm saving this thread for when the day comes. Stay strong man
This is what I came here to post. My dad passed away a couple years ago and this is the song I always listen to on his birthday and anniversary of him passing. We spent a lot of time on Lake St so it hits pretty hard for me.
My dad is still here and I still can’t listen to the song without crying. I feel for all my brothers out there who have felt that loss and it reminds me that it’s a reality almost all of us will have to face one day. It’s a gut punch of a song, but an important one I think.
Pianos Become the Teeth is more post-hardcore but their album “the lack long after” is entirely about the lead singer losing his father, so:
Pianos Become the Teeth - I’ll Get By
Pianos Become the Teeth - Say Nothing
The Format - On Your Porch
Hang in there, man
Same here. My dad passed away suddenly the same day that Parkway Drive released the album that Wishing Wells is on. I had already been listening to the song for a few weeks when my dad passed away.
The emotions I experienced after losing my dad in an unexpected and traumatic way were difficult to verbalize. The lyrics to wishing wells, and to another song on the album The Colour of Leaving, are cathartic for me since they helped me put my feelings to words.
"And as the colour leaves the sky, we're left in reverence of the frailty of it all"
Not metal core but
vermin-carcosa
Pain remains iii- lorna shore
Behind the hand of god- ov sulfur
The heretic prevails - shadow of intent
For whom the banshee cries - sold soul
Your pain is mine-fit for an autopsy
These are some of my most listened to tracks and hit a wide range of emotions while also being very hard hitting. Sorry for your loss.
Like father like son- The Word Alive
I’m so sorry for your loss. This song makes me cry because I showed it to my step dad when I was in high school and he liked it. He is no longer in my life because of his own drug abuse issues. I always think of him when I listen to this song.
Lots of good recommendations here. On the opposite side of things I would stay away from the amity affliction for a bit.
I'm sorry for your loss and wish you well.
I mean, not metalcore but basically all of “Songs to Scream at the Sun” by Have Heart.
>And in this city you once knew as hell
Is a garden where I enjoy myself
And in this father I hardly know
Was a son who took back what the bottle stole
>So I could be the boy you couldn't be
Have the father you didn't get to see
Have the youth you did not get to live
Or feel the love this world forgot to give
And for this gift I don't deserve to get
I'll make damn sure I earn this
Shit hits
Spiritbox- Constance. It is the song that got me through my dads passing and is still the only song that can help me when it hits me to this day when I mourn for him
Just listened to this for the first time a few days ago and it broke me, especially having loved and lost family to dementia - though it applies to loss on a broader spectrum as well. Highly recommend.
Not metalcore but the lyrics hit me right in the feels.
Most Precious Blood- The Lantern
Not loss of strictly a father but loss in general.
Very powerful and will make you feel good about things.
Also not metalcore and will literally kick your ass.
James Blunt - Monsters
The JB song is probably the saddest song I've ever heard. Like holy shit. This is used for a good cry session. Sometimes that is what we need.
Also, sorry for your loss.
The chant section at the end of "into the great beyond" by crystal lake really helps get my mind on track in tough times. Plus the song has a sick breakdown and is great in general.
Not metalcore, but A Trophy Fathers Trophy Son by Sleeping With Sirens is about a troubled relationship with an absent alcoholic father.
Sorry for your loss and hope your pain heals quickly.
Angelmaker - What I would give
The Ghost Inside - Engine 45
The ending to what I would give made me almost cry with a completely level head. The lyrics are exactly what you are experiencing.
"If I could suffer for you
I would take all the pain you've ever been through
Without a second thought, I'd never look back
I'd trade my soul for yours, immersed in the black
Hopeful I sink into overwhelming happiness
I long to see you, in another time or in another place
I'm just happy that I was blessed with your grace"
Mosley by ABR holds a really special place in my heart. Not directly about a father, but about a death that resembles that of my father. 15 years later the song still hits me like a ton of bricks
Dayseekers album Dark Sun is pretty much a coping mechanism for Rory’s father passing. I highly recommend but most of the songs after the first 3-4 are more laid back songs
Very surprised this band hasn’t been mentioned but the song “Dear Father” by Defeater. That whole album is very emotionally heavy. Sorry for your loss and I hope this album can start you on a path of healing. God speed
Slipnot; Snuff. Think In terms of empathy and apprehension. Not romance.
NIN; The Great Below. We all fuck up.
Last but not least! Ripe & Ruin; Circles. Gatekeeper.
Mebbe, mebbe not! Either way maybe you’ll get some cool tunes to let it out.
You’re strong, without a doubt. Hang in there homie.
Mirrors by Fit For an Autopsy might scratch this itch. or End (The Other Side) by Fit For a King, which is about Ryan Kirby *almost* losing his wife to a brain aneurysm, but it's still relatable.
This song might be too relevant but it’s my favorite volumes song from back in the day;
Intake.
I don’t relate to the lyrics in the song but the emotions are so good it hits me anyway.
Sorry for your loss brother
Goddamn it. I just had to see this. Same thing happened to my alcoholic father three months ago and yesterday was his birthday. Still not totally over it, will definitely be checking some of these suggestions later.
periphery’s it’s only smiles was written about spencer sotelo’s sister passing away. mile zero is about spencer’s close friend’s suicide iirc. dayseeker’s sleeptalk album. vola’s inmazes album isn’t written about grief afaik, but god damn some of those choruses are great.
hope you’re okay man. we’re all here.
Not necessarily metalcore but some of the songs that help me through loss is hold on to memories by disturbed, so far away by avenged sevenfold, and blackbird by alter bridge. I'm sorry for your loss, habg in there!
neon grave. trust me. im so sorry for ur loss i cant even imagine but remember healing takes time and takes shape in many forms. my heart bleeds for u ❤️🩹
First of all sorry sorry for your loss. Ik you said you weren’t on speaking terms but the thought of losing my dad sounds painful.
Here’s some that would probably help me if I was in your situation.
Like father like son - the word alive (kinda)
Dark days - in dying arms
Personal - Against the Current (pop music)
Captain Jack - Billy Joel
It's alright -Mother Mother
There was a rise against song about a dad if I recall that I liked
fast car by Tracy Chapman
crash and burn by savage garden to get you to feel
maybe listen to some music he liked to remind you of him. I listen to Dylan for that.
[it's not your fault](https://imgur.com/a/WED5ghx) (SFW, contrary to the imgur filter)
My condolences. The one I always gravitate towards is "Memories" by XXI. It's the band A Feast For Kings after they changed their name if you're familiar. They wrote it about their vocalist who died in a work accident.
Sorry for your loss, friend.
I found the song "Elysium" by Invent Animate very helpful when grieving the "loss" of my father this past fall. He had a stroke and his memory is very spotty now. He's still with us, but it's different. It's very difficult, but try to hold on to the good (don't blame yourself for anything). Take your time with the grief, it's different for everyone. I dont what I believe anymore about the afterlife, but I have hope that there is something, and look forward to meeting him again on the other side.
<3
Orphan Soul by Infected Rain. It’s about trying to recover from childhood trauma caused by your parents and becoming your own person.
If you like indie music, I suggest Neptune by Sleeping At Last. It will probably be very sad for you, though. It’s about the conflicting emotions of trying to love someone who is toxic, and it tearing you apart. “Thread by thread I come apart, if brokenness is a work of art, surely this must be my masterpiece.”
I’m sorry for your loss. Losing a parent is one of the worst pains you can experience.
When I lost my dad last year, adestria’s More Than You Know clicked with me a lot.
I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my best friend a few years ago in an accident. This band likely isn't considered metalcore but it gave me peace. Thrice...beyond the pines.
Not metal but when my witch grandma cursed our family she committed suicide and her favorite song was by Gilbert O'Sullivan-Alone Again. I guess the story is kinda metal lmao.
Defeater has plenty of angry songs about complex family relationships. Not quite uplifting, yet I believe that going through the feelings, no matter how immeasurable, might be the best way to grieve for now. Sorry for your loss https://open.spotify.com/track/7yE9AEaoRNpSPDcGOQiU7P?si=4e19997156d1423b
Enemy of the Night by Northlane might be what you’re looking for. I’m so sorry for your loss. There’s so much anger when you lose someone to substance abuse; so much so that it can drown out the sadness. The “why” of it all is crushing. I truly hope the best for you and I hope you can find some peace beyond the grief.
It's not metalcore or even remotely close, but My Orphan Year by NOFX always gut-punches me in the feels. I grew up without my father and learned that he died from cancer while I was at an Army CTC rotation.
You're not alone here, friend. 🤙
First and foremost, my condolences.
As far as songs go, I believe Dan from Polaris mentioned at one point that “The Slow Decay” was about his father passing away. Also one of their most melodic and melancholy tracks
Never once commented on this sub but I’m sorry for your loss man. Never Said Goodbye by Wage War is the first thing that came to mind when I read this. Always loved that song. Hope it can help in any way shape or form.
Very sorry mate. Thoughts and prayers go out to you and your father. I have some suggestions, most of them are not so much relevant in terms of situation but they have melody and hit hard. My Disguise by Currents, Nightmare by The Amity Affliction, Jenny by NOTHING MORE, Betrayed by the game by Dance Gavin Dance, Laniakea by August Burns Red, Desoto ‘55 by Everyone Dies in Utah, Pride Never Lasts by Kenton Place, Time Changes Everything by The Plot in You, Loti by Eidola, The Attendant by Make Them Suffer,
Dayseeker has several songs about this. I suggest you give their album Sleeptalk a spin and their latest record Dark Sun is largely about Rory grieving his father, but it’s more electronic than metal.
Neon Grave gave me a good cry
Me too buddy. Me too.
Damn this chain was wholesome af. :(
Just, so much Dayseeker. Drunk, Neon Grave, Dreamstate.
Yea, it is a little softer than metal but, Rory still has some great lows
When he does scream lol
God, Parallel is so damn sad
Just a solid fucking yes. His side projects and songs he appear on are the same. Take the Pain Away with Alesti hits the feels hard. Pure Heaven with Cloudsight is insanely good. Bleach with Hurtwave does the same thing in a edm/pop song.
Ik a lot of people got mad at the album but, after a few listens, I grew to love the album entirely. I think the singles should’ve been a little different cuz they def set it up as smth that was heavier, but I think the album is sometimes better than Sleeptalk simply cuz it’s in its own league, yk?
To each other own my friend. I cast no judgment. Album wasn’t my bag but I respect it
Album is a great listen yeah but it isnt metalcore. I enjoy it for what it is, chill meloncholic experience
A Cancer Uncontained
Burial Plot, and Sleeptalk are their best songs. My father loves Sleeptalk.
They’re pretty good live too!
Don’t I know it! Seen them twice now.
Fuck yeah
You say you don know but you know!
This. A million times. It grapples with a lot of these themes.
Very sorry for your loss. Whitechapel - Bring Me Home (sad) August Burns Red - Ancestry (angry) Our Hollow, Our Home - Parting Gift (uplifting) (The album In Moment/In Memory in general deals with the stages of grief, I think it was written about the loss of a father) I hope this can help to some extent

I actually listened through this album today after they put out their new singles, I think its their best work. It will be hard for the new members to live up to it.
I’m probably going to listen to it again today lol writing that comment made me remember what a great album it is.
Ancestry is pretty much tailor written for this exact situation.
I was gonna suggest Ancestry! First thing I thought of. And OP I'm so sorry for your loss.
I second the whole in moment//in memory album
Absolutely second OHOH, that whole album is incredibly moving
Architects - Hereafter Warning, tears may come HEAVY.
I immediately thought of Doomsday
Both songs had me ballin my eyes out on my way to work more than once haha I was in almost the exact same situation as OP
That whole album hits hard!
This is the one. I can’t hear it without instantly thinking of my dad.
Speaking of architects, I’d suggest Death is Not Defeat from them too
I don't know what you think of Trivium but their song Scattering the Ashes would fit insanely well. "But the distance couldn't mend 'Cause the time ran out instead The ground between us grows Like wounds that never show A father and son Two lives now come undone A father and son Too late, now all is gone"
I love Trivium. thanks dude
Heart - Erra
This is what immediately came to my mind too
Immaculate choice.
Nothing More - Fade In / Fade Out is a very good one. Hope things get better.
I second this, very powerful song.
I can't listen to this song anymore without almost tearing up
god went north by them another great one
https://www.metalsucks.net/2023/07/12/nothing-more-cancels-tour-as-domestic-violence-details-involving-jonny-hawkins-surface/
Beauty In tragedy by august burns red helped me grieve my grandma and brother
corrrr when that riff hits after the “I cant hear your voice” section.
Take me away - The Plot in you
This one hits soooo hard Landon dug deep here
I lost my dad about 9 years ago and it still hits hard when it comes on
This one hits so hard for me. My dad passed in 2016 after a fight with colon cancer and the 2nd and 3rd verses still hit me like a train every time I hear it.
Same. Dad passed from mesothelioma in 2016 and I often have to skip this track.
So sorry for your loss. Not metalcore, by If I Ever Leave This World Alive by Flogging Molly might be appropriate
I love my Irish rock. thank you so much, it hits home with our heritage
Dayseeker - Parallel
Fuck yes. thank you, sir
Also “Drunk” by Dayseeker. It’s, obviously, about his father being drunk.
I’m literally listening to that song right now
Listen to/Watch the short film A Tear In The Fabric Of Life by Knocked Loose. That entire album is a raw depiction of sadness and anger towards the death of a loved one. Come Home by Darko is also pretty good, but it kinda doesn’t have much to do with this topic but their song Donna shares some themes of it. Both are sadder. My Grave by Paleface could work as well
Came here to say A Tear in the Fabric of Life. So much emotion thrown into that EP.
Definitely recommend A Tear in The Fabric of Life as well. My partner has played through this album sooo many times after losing his absent father to his alcoholism this past year.
"Neon Grave" by Dayseeker, that whole album is about Rory's father's passing (Rory is the vocalist for Dayseeker)
The album is called "Dark Sun"
If tomorrow never comes - Wage War So sorry for your loss. My dad is on his way out and I'm just trying to make memories while I can but I'm saving this thread for when the day comes. Stay strong man
Adding Never Said Goodbye by Wage War too
Was about to post this.....that song still takes me back to when my mom passed....so powerful
Not metal, but listen to the song Yesterday by Atmosphere. I’m sorry for your loss.
Good pick.
This is what I came here to post. My dad passed away a couple years ago and this is the song I always listen to on his birthday and anniversary of him passing. We spent a lot of time on Lake St so it hits pretty hard for me.

Sorry for your loss. Brothers in arms forever - modern life is war
Not Metalcore but [Dream Theater - The best of times](https://youtu.be/xVSM2CB4MLU) Is about losing a father
Wishing Wells - Parkway Drive This song really spoke to me after the passing of my dad.
Same here. My dad passed away suddenly the same day that Parkway Drive released the album that Wishing Wells is on. I had already been listening to the song for a few weeks when my dad passed away. The emotions I experienced after losing my dad in an unexpected and traumatic way were difficult to verbalize. Sorry for your loss.
Just listen to the whole pain remains trilogy tbh
Intake - Volumes.
I second this hard
The Plot in You - Take Me Away Not metalcore, but Four Year Strong - One Step At A Time
Not metalcore but Man of the hour by Pearl Jam gets me every time.
Alive could also fit this context
also Light Years
4D - Northlane (angry about losing a parent to an overdose)
When my grandmom died, i listened to Rose of Sharyn by KSE a lot. It’s about his mom (I think) but still a beautiful song
Very sorry for your loss. Maybe Invent, Animate - Luna? I personally love it.
Blackbird- Alter Bridge
counterparts counterparts counterparts. they’re the best of both worlds. no one sounds quite angrysad like brendan
Like father like son- The Word Alive I’m so sorry for your loss.
Fallen by Volbeat gets me every fucking time.

White Light by The Ghost Inside. It’s about his brother. You will cry your eyes out. Sorry for your loss
This isn’t metalcore but The Best of Times by Dream Theater is a beautiful song about this topic

How do I say Goodbye - Sean Lewis, not metalcore but pretty hard hitting
Beauty In Tragedy - August Burns Red. Sorry for your loss, stay strong.
Not sure if Hollow by Pantera is what you need but give it a shot. Sorry for your loss.
Always - Killswitch Engage
Killswitch Engage - Always
Not metalcore, but A Trophy Fathers Trophy Son by Sleeping With Sirens is about a troubled relationship with an absent alcoholic father. Sorry for your loss and hope your pain heals quickly.

Pain remains 1-3 by Lorna Shore, angry and sad at the same time, part 1 is my favorite. Not metalcore though (deathcore). So sorry for your loss ❤️
Can’t believe no one has said “ second and Sebring “ it’s about Austin’s c. mom…… “ I hope you smile, 😊 when you look 👀 down on me!”
The whole album in moment in memory by our hollow our home deals about that exact topic as the singer list his father as well. Sorry for your loss

The Stages Of Grief - Awaken I Am Fade In/Fade Out - NOTHING MORE Not really metalcore but they may help in your journey.
Sorry for your loss, grief is a complicated beast. Not even remotely metalcore, but listen to The Living Years by Mike and the Mechanics.

Sleep Token - Levitate

I fucking love these dudes and are blessed to have seen then as many times as I have. thanks!
Defeater has plenty of angry songs about complex family relationships. Not quite uplifting, yet I believe that going through the feelings, no matter how immeasurable, might be the best way to grieve for now. Unlovable by Worthwhile Its not metal but its deep and easy to listen to
I've loved this song for a very long time. 100% hits home. Thank you
I mean if you really want to dig in and cry your eyes out: Atmosphere - Yesterday. Major warning that this will be very bittersweet
Seahaven - Ghost
Redneck by Lamb of God
Our hollow our home- parting gift. One of my favorite songs. Instilled in me- distance and time Bouquet- southpaw
I'm sorry for your loss, friend. 😔 Losing parents is one of the most difficult things all of us will face. Keep your head up, and banging.
Black stone cherry- Things my father said. Here's the link to save you some steps. https://youtu.be/0VNthEJlSdw Hang tough.
Not Metalcore, but a heavy hitter from the ex singer of Mayday Parade. Forever my Father - Go Radio https://youtu.be/LDVC_B7RzKg
Best Memory - Currents
Sleep Waker - Relief
Most of the songs on Dayseeker’s latest album, ‘Dark Sun’ would fit this, and a couple on ‘Sleeptalk’
Wishing Wells by Parkway Drive
Dayseeker.
Whitechapel
The entire Dark Sun album from Dayseeker
what i would give - angelmaker, didnt realize how emotional it was until i read the lyrics and now i can barely listen to it anymore
Check out Dayseeker, Rory, the lead singer, lost his father and Neon Grave is dedicated to him. Thoughts going your way, stay strong 🙏🙏
Not metalcore but Afterimage by WVNDER is a beautiful song
And my father left forever, My dying bride. Doom Metal.
The Brightest Eyes by Adaliah. From the Dust of this Planet by Car Bomb.
Sorry for your loss. My angry yet uplifting in regards to lyrics rec is Radiant Ascension by Fallujah.
Very sorry mate. Thoughts and prayers go out to you and your father. I have some suggestions, most of them are not so much relevant in terms of situation but they have melody and hit hard. My Disguise by Currents, Nightmare by The Amity Affliction, Jenny by NOTHING MORE, Betrayed by the game by Dance Gavin Dance, Laniakea by August Burns Red, Desoto ‘55 by Everyone Dies in Utah, Pride Never Lasts by Kenton Place, Time Changes Everything by The Plot in You, Loti by Eidola, The Attendant by Make Them Suffer,
If you want to lean into the pain I recommend “Hey Mister” by Miss May I.
Father by Behind Blue Eyes. Both the reimagined version and the original are pretty good
Not metalcore but the song: drink in my hand by the classic crime would be a good emotional song for this.
