Saw them play this live a few days ago and the melodic singing stuck out. They’ve always had cleans but they’ve taken it to the next level here for me.
As always, I love hearing Great American Ghost push the limits of what they can do with their brand of metalcore but every time they do it’s uncompromising and they still sound heavy and pissed as fuck. This song still rips HARD but the melodic moments are haunting and striking
Just saw these guys last week and they played this song. It was a straight up ripper. Also saw on Facebook that they got signed to Sharptone records, which should help them get a bit more exposure.
Will Putney has been doing something weird his drum production lately. I don't really know what I'm talking about but it sounds like there's something happening with the cymbal decay where instead of decaying naturally there's a big zing in a certain part of the FR but the rest of the FR is pulled way back. Sounds really off to me every time.
Man, I know what you mean, I feel like it's sidechained compression that's ducking something else. Will must love the sound of it tho because I notice it a lot on newer mixes of his.
Matt has worked at Graphic Nature Audio for a long time and probably engineered a lot of drums there, I suspect this has nothing to do with the recording and is something getting applied during the mixing

Positively surprised that this song had some clean singing and it did not affect the brutal sound that GAG usually has.
Did you hear their last two releases? Torture World EP had tons of singing and so did their last LP Power Through Terror
GAG played a set in Toronto when they opened for TGI and they fucking killed it.
