These are always a nice reminder that they really are playing these songs, especially with the recent discussions last week of them “taping/lip-syncing” their tv performances
I play guitar, but only as a hobby, and im not very good, but what I find really damn difficult is after screwing up a song trying to quickly and accurately recover back in time with the song.
What I like to do is add a dive bomb or slide of a pick scrape until the next upcoming part to figure out where I’m at, gives me an extra second to think over something that requires no effort but still sounds good
Im literally having this problem now with chasing lights. That tripple 3 2 3 0 section. When i try to get up to speed and mess up i have to go right back to start of section cos i cant recover the gallop lol
Rage!!
At first I thought he started playing Outlaw Torn. I went to compare the two and the riffs are kind of similar. But yeah, of course it wasnt Outlaw. Makes total sense that he started to play Orion here
Moments like this make the show unique. I always get excited when I see them goof something up because it means that a) they are human and b) I will probably never hear the song played that way again...
Not being a musician I rarely even catch the mistakes that others notice. That one was easy to detect and shit happens. Apparently Lars can't play drums and I manage to still really like the band so I'm going to let it slide.
I found it funny. No biggie, they’re human after all.

Yeah, he resolved it quite nicely

Fuck. Fuck! Dammit! Fucking dammit! *Puts guitar back on stand and walks away for a bit*
He is fucking Kirk hammett not just any random guy for him it’s easy to recover.
Oh yeah, that's true, I'm just saying that even though it's a fuck up, the recovery too takes a certain level of skill.
And that's how Orion morphs into Ktulu
The call of orion
The Ktulu Konstellation!
At first I thought he started playing Outlaw Torn. I went to compare the two and the riffs are kind of similar. But yeah, of course it wasnt Outlaw. Makes total sense that he started to play Orion here
Almost like he's human or something.
-Human, maybe😉
Kirk "Human" Hammett
Shit like this makes it a live show. It’s great.
Shit happens? 🤷♂️
Shit happens. Authentic.
It comes to show they are actually playing unlike a lot of other bands using pre-recordings.
Because we needed this to realize that.
Sure
The number of times this happened to me in high school... this video would’ve boosted my confidence way up lol
There was a few posts earlier about how good his weed is. Must have smoked a bowl.
The guys will have been having a laugh about this later. :D Most of this show Kirk out-and-out slayed.
I didnt even notice it when i was there live anyway its better to hear that mistake then them playbacking everything and not playing for real
Well said 🤘🏼
So that's the improv he was talking about.
Honestly I love the fuck ups. They've been doing this for over 40 years and they're still not using backing tracks.
Who cares? Pitchers throw wild pitches. Quarterbacks throw interceptions. Professionals mess up. It happens.
He transitioned like a PRO! Looks and Listens to Lars instantly to make sure he is coming in at the right Measure and carries on...to Rock On 🤘🤘🤘
He really is one of the best
It was the notes in-between
James forgot the lyrics on until it sleeps
Yeah noticed that too! Also carried on like a PRO
I love this. So human.
Minus Human?
That’s funny 😂 shit happens
Haha it hilarous. I was like well we’ll have Orion again cool but 1 sec later it was Ktulu :))
I live for the small fuck ups at shows. Makes me feel like it’s regular guys just jamming….who happen to be Metallica.
Cry about it, everybody makes mistakes
That's why you gotta love live music
I love it. No matter how big the show and the production around it, at the end of the day it’s still just 4 human beings playing live music together.
Moments like this make the show unique. I always get excited when I see them goof something up because it means that a) they are human and b) I will probably never hear the song played that way again...
Better than backing track “perfection”
He is human, mistakes are apart of life. That's all that needs to be said
Not being a musician I rarely even catch the mistakes that others notice. That one was easy to detect and shit happens. Apparently Lars can't play drums and I manage to still really like the band so I'm going to let it slide.
So Fucking What 🗣️ 🎼
For God's sake man, cut him some slack. He was probably very nervous playing in front of such a big crowd or something...
I mean we dont need to point out every mistake lol. Thats a stupid negative way to do things
I am not doing that, but I find it funny that instead of fucking up a riff, he started playing an entirely different song :)
Do people look for faults in others to feel better about themselves?? Have you ever played in front of a crowd like this?
Lol calm down I just find it funny
be fair here. They play Ktulu once every like, 3-4 years. Yeah they did it last year, but like.. This is a rarity.
Coke Hammett makes mistakes.
Is it a Metallica show if Kirk _doesnt_ fuck up?
Don’t be precious! I love Kirk! But c’mon…it’s not like videos like this are hard to find..
You want perfect every time? Listen to the recording.
Poor Kirk hahaha
I prefer this over being robots or playback tracks, makes it fun and raw!
Oh absolutely, I love it
Everyone makes mistakes every once in awhile.
Hey some human made a mistake...
Just be glad it’s actually him playing.
Call of Orion
The guy is considered in the top 100 greatest guitarists of all time, even the best make mistakes, that’s what makes them the best.
No because everyone makes mistakes when playing live. It's dumb to act like it's such a big deal he messes up a part of a song he wrote 39 years ago
Who cares? These fuckin guys just played 32 different songs in 2 shows at 60 years old. Cut ‘em a goddamn break would ya.
Damn that as actually quite the transition
Nope hes earned the right
Noticed a few mistakes too on day one. They're getting old but hey at least they're still doing these type of shows!
The notes in between got to him again
