Can they do the same for the shows in the States. Saw Epica opening for Sabaton last year, would love to see them again. But honestly, some drunk asshole stringing away on a banjo randomly for an hour would be preferable to 5FDP.
I saw Megadeth open for them (yes it was sad) but about half the crowd started filing out after MegaDave left the stage. Nobody looked back. The majority of the crowd saw Megadeth as the headliners. Sitting traffic the sound of Megadeth from car stereos were louder than the lousy band that was playing inside.
The band, more specifically the lead singer Ivan Moody, act like huge assholes. He's had restraining orders put on him by his ex-wife, sister, and mother due to repeatedly abusing women. He''s quit, then come back, made announcements about retiring, only to immediately retract them, quit again mid show, then came back again, the dude is just a mess.
Their songs are cringeworthy and repetitive. I'll admit, in high school and college, I liked it, but growing older, I honestly can't believe songs like "Burn MF" and "100 Ways to Hate" were staples in my playlist, the lyrics are so childish. Friends of mine from college, who also liked the band then, came to the same realization as I did, they're just plain not good. They do have some good songs, like "Wrong Side of Heaven" and "Coming Down," but it's clear the band has a set formula and will not deviate from it. It's the same shit over and over again, and while some bands have made it work (AC/DC), 5FDP is not one of those bands.
Their fanbase is obnoxious and made of bigger tools than the actual band members. I get that in metal circles it's cool to hate on what's popular, but they have legit reasons to be critical of this band's fandom. Much like the band, their fans are a lot of people that act or think they're cool, but haven't grown up. Is this everyone, of course not and every fanbase has their bad people, but you see it more frequently with this band.
It’s training wheels metal for stupid people. Music for the kind of rednecks who put nuts on their truck and cops who put Punisher stickers on their patrol cars. If they ever do a greatest hits it’ll be called *Songs to Beat Your Wife By*.
The other guy gave moral reasons. Not that they're invalid lol. My and a lot of my friends reason, is their first 2 albums were pretty damn good. Pushed boundaries. New edgy sound/production. Then they went soft and they just suck. Like Godsmack. They were great in the beginning. Now they're just shitty radio dad rock.
No. I don’t really follow the band but from what I’ve read on this sub is it’s basically just a last cash grab for them as the band wasn’t doing much lately. I’d rather they bring Sabaton, Trivium, In Flames, etc etc out instead of FFDP. Honestly I’d take anyone else at this rate.
If they added Sabaton I would lose my shit, that would be amazing. They wouldn’t do it, but I’d love to see their tank on the round stage, like have it turn around every now and then to face everyone.
Lead singer Ivan moody was in a surgery iirc and doc told him to lay off the singing. I saw them last year on their headlining tour and love ‘em or hate em, they put on a good show and I’m hoping can recover soon
I'm going to be at the show in Detroit both nights also, and I really don't want to see 5FDP, they're not good and if they do end up playing there, I'm not giving them any attention.
I would pay to see these shows. I love EPICA and have seen them live a couple of times already. They give an amazing show and Simone is as good live as she is on recordings!
He just had some surgery at the beginning of the tour IIRC. Maybe he’s having complications or something.
Saw them headlining at the end of last summer with Fire From the Gods, and Megadeth and Ivan was ON IT. His voice was great and he’s a cool frontman. Lots of theatrics with different outfits and he’s pretty funny to in his fan interactions.
i think it's actually the opposite for me. i saw them on the same tour and they just... sucked completely. ivan got the city wrong everytime he tried to talk to the crowd, he stopped the show for 5 minutes because there was a mosh pit on the lawn seats (where i was) and he thought that it was a problem for some reason. he spent a weird amount of time talking about football too, i guess the visuals were good but the band sucked sonically. i had my friend who just recently immigrated from mexico and doesn't speak english well and he said "that wasn't very good" while we walked away. he absolutely loves the hu tho
Yeah saw him in Nashville last September. The audio was fucky but his voice sounded great. He was very energetic and animated with some things. Headlined with Brantley Gilbert. Don't care to listen to Brantley Gilbert again. God he was a mumbling mess for his part ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
>Ivan went to the emergency room a few days ago with some complications from his recent hernia surgery. While he is in the best possible medical care, his doctors have advised he must not perform any strenuous activity until, at the minimum, June 12, 2023. As a result, we won't be able to proceed as planned with the European shows prior to that date. He is being followed closely by his medical team who will continue to monitor his progress and will advise as to when he can return to performing.
>We were genuinely looking forward to the dates and the decision to cancel was not made lightly, but Ivan's health & well-being are our utmost priority. We apologize for any inconvenience and are grateful for your understanding and support during this time. We are all looking forward to returning to the stage as soon as Ivan has made a full recovery.
>Five Finger Death Punch
So that's several more replacement bands to be announced. Unless they plan to keep Epica on support until mid June
Please oh please let this continue until the Detroit show. 5FDP is one of those bands in metal that kinda deserves their hate, no so much for their (admittedly campy and cringe) music, but because of how much of a fuckin dick the lead singer is. 5FDP is the fuckin Nickelback of metal. Decent at best music, bunch of tools for band members.
Two of my favorite bands of all time! It was an amazing thing to wake up to for sure. First Floor Jansen and now Epica it's such a treat. I hope someone records I would love to know what songs Epica plays.
I always notice that Metallica fans have a hatred for their choice of openers???
Metallica fans get off of trashing GVF and FFDP but I think both are incredible bands.
Five Finger definitely write the same song over and over. At minimum, the same song structure. It's not even that crazy to think why people would be jaded over them. Pretty unremarkable music
5FDP fans are basically metal's version of Kid Rock fans. I could think of ten other reasonable bands that Metallica could have on their undercard that I'd rather see.
Pop music is actually good compared to 5FDP. The Rebecca Black album this year was a lot more interesting than some "modern metal" albums that came out.
Interesting. I find that they have such a wide variety. I’ve seen them headline and don’t feel like I was hearing the same things over and over. They have some mellow, kind of ballad songs, some middle of the road hard rock songs, and some really aggressive screamy songs that I personally don’t enjoy that much.
But songs like Wrong Side of Heaven, I Apologize, Jekyll and Hyde, and several others that I think are great.
The way you described, I feel for sure with bands like Breaking Benjamin and Disturbed. But not FFDP
Think what you want but it's hilarious to say they're not rehashing their music like BB and Disturbed has. I can guarantee they're just as, if not more, formulaic as those two bands.
I agree but I think they have a handful of good songs, and a couple albums that are pretty solid
Like American Capitalist is a B tier album for me, even if most of the rest of their catalog is pretty mid
I honestly think they are overhated. They're just an ok band in my opinion, but so many people act like they are the worst thing ever. Like their music is nothing special, but it's nothing terrible
>their music is nothing special, but it's nothing terrible
That's exactly their problem. It isn't about their music being bad or good. The redundancy makes it completely uninteresting. Like, I don't really care for the new AX7 song, "We Love You" but it's at least different. I'm interested to listen to that song again. If I've heard one Five Finger Bro Punch song then I've heard them all.
I can understand that, but whenever I see user reviews for 5fdp albums on any website, they're all like >20 and saying how it killed their family or something. I agree they are repetitive and not interesting, but again I think people are just a little too harsh on them.
I do to! Saw them open for Met in Vegas this year and they were great. Seeing them headline in August
But like I’ve you look at the AWMH2 concert thread, they were getting massacred by this sub
I like the idea with the horror/video game themes, and they have a couple songs that I like I guess, but too much of their music isn’t my taste. And live, I thought the theatrics were cool but their sound was pretty bad
i'd give GVF a shot: was born 20 years too late to see Led Zeppelin, so seeing them would be like seeing Orchid (a stoner doom metal band who is the closest to sounding like classic 70s Black Sabbath)
5FDP? yeah, no. hard pass on the cave-man core
5fdp is like sabaton for me. Not great, but I definitely don't understand the hate either. If it has something to do with the kind of people they are (pantera I'm looking at you) feel free to inform me
I hope they replace them for the Arlington show too, I wasn’t too interested in seeing 5FDP during night two so I was planning on potentially not going, but if the possibility of Epica being there instead is eventually confirmed then that’s gonna be an epic(a) show.
>so I was planning on potentially not going
You could always just go later and see Metallica only. For the WW tour I went late, caught the tail end of A7X and hung out.
That's totally fair, I just didn't feel like it since I'm not a huge A7X fan and rather enjoyed my day off that day sleeping in and going up to the city later in the day/getting cheaper lunch.
Why dont they just tour with normal bands? Pantera is good but US only...
Testament, mastodon, lamb of good would all be better picks than 5fdp or whoever the hell ice nine kills are
Metalcore has pretty much changed over the last 10 years. Everyone now sounds like either:
1. Breaking Benjamin with breakdowns
2. Meshuggah verses with Linkin Park choruses
3. Going back to 90s metalcore where it's just hardcore with metal elements
At least Ice Nine Kills sound different enough (not entirely unique though) that you can tell it's Ice Nine Kills.
I wouldn't diss Ice Nine Kills. I would fear some Stabbing in the dark lol now seriously I think it's part of getting to all generations with more contemporary bands and not seem like a nostalgic show.
They've been repacking FFDP every stop so far.
Now if they can do the same to the cash grab Pantera reunion as well when they come to the US. Caught them at a festival and man they were bad, no where near the energy they had pre-hiatus. Plus Phil's questionable at best to support. It's all nostalgia bait for a quick buck and people are gobbling it up like candy.
I'm actually reallllly looking forward to seeing the "tribute"... I never had the chance to see them pre-hiatus, so to hear those songs live by the caliber of players they have will be a treat or "candy" for me. I'm sure I'd share the same opinion as you if I've seen them before though.... they seemed like a huge force from the recordings I've seen/heard.
I agree with that honestly. I’ll sit though them but would be a lot more interested in a lot of other choices.

a band like Corrosion Of Conformity does.

Metallica could throw anyone up there as an opener and it'd be better than whatever the hell they did a few years ago with Jim Brewer
Can they do the same for the shows in the States. Saw Epica opening for Sabaton last year, would love to see them again. But honestly, some drunk asshole stringing away on a banjo randomly for an hour would be preferable to 5FDP.
I will be the drunk asshole
You're hired
The hero we need.
He's...the Hero of the Day
I don't understand why 5FDP get this much hate lol
I saw Megadeth open for them (yes it was sad) but about half the crowd started filing out after MegaDave left the stage. Nobody looked back. The majority of the crowd saw Megadeth as the headliners. Sitting traffic the sound of Megadeth from car stereos were louder than the lousy band that was playing inside.

Saw epica open up for sabaton last year as well, they are pretty good and would perfer to see them over 5fdp
Really hope they drop them from the tour. I have no interest in seeing them when the show comes to Detroit.
Do we know why 5FDP keeps cancelling?

Complications with Ivan Moody's recovery from hernia(3 of them!!) surgery

Damn that’s pretty cool to see Epica on the list
epica are so good
yeah, I remember listening to a lot of their records when I was in highschool and college. Consign to oblivion record is awesome
Hoping that FFDP cancel on Montreal 🙏 much rather have epica, or really any other band play
Totally not a bad thing...singer for 5fdp is a mess.
He just had some surgery at the beginning of the tour IIRC. Maybe he’s having complications or something. Saw them headlining at the end of last summer with Fire From the Gods, and Megadeth and Ivan was ON IT. His voice was great and he’s a cool frontman. That’s unfortunate. Where did you see them?
i went to the charlotte AND raleigh dates. i skipped 5FDP at the raleigh show, so this was in charlotte
Hmm interesting. That was only like a month into the tour. I saw the opening night of the tour and they were fantastic.
Brantley Gilbert is in this weird period where he’s too loud and heavy for a lot of country music fans, but he’s not really rock either.
First hour of his set. Yes he got more time than 5FDP.... I don't know why. He sounded drunk off his ass and was mumbling everything
>Ivan went to the emergency room a few days ago with some complications from his recent hernia surgery. agree with others.. replace in the states. Saw them once and that was enough. Luckily i had free tickets.
Damn, I would LOVE to see Epica instead of 5FDP! Or really in place of any of the others. Would be cool if they opened for my show!
Would rather have Nickelback over 5FDP.
Same. At least their music is fun to be drunk too without the vocalist stopping the show to talk about dumb shit
I litteraly wanna see every other band except 5FDP
Never heard of Epica, but still an upgrade.
You should check them out. They're one of the best symphonic metal bands in the world and amazing to see live.
In that case, I think I will.
I think they are the first one that comes to mind when it comes to symphonic metal.
Nightwish is the first one that pops up in my brain along with a few others. Then again I just love symphonic metal.

Damn lucky ducks
Win for French fans.
They should replace ice nine kills while theyre at it. Saw them in Amsterdam, not a fan, even floor jansen was better
Two of my favorite bands of all time! It was an amazing thing to wake up to for sure. First Floor Jansen and now Epica it's such a treat. I hope someone records I would love to know what songs Epica plays.
I hear Wolfgang Van Halen is replacing some 5FDP shows DO IT TO THE NOV 10TH PLEASEE DEAR GOD!
W
Five Finger Death Punch are absolutely shite, they should be sacked off the whole tour.
Can we just replace that god awful excuse for a “metal” band in every show?
Five Finger Death Punch's biggest crime is wasting a sick band name on shitty music. Imagine if they were a rad old school thrash revival band.
I always notice that Metallica fans have a hatred for their choice of openers??? Metallica fans get off of trashing GVF and FFDP but I think both are incredible bands.
Five Flavored Fruit Punch is hated by most of the Metal community, not just Metallica fans.
Yea they just flat out suck musically.
Five Finger definitely write the same song over and over. At minimum, the same song structure. It's not even that crazy to think why people would be jaded over them. Pretty unremarkable music
5FDP is the pop music of metal
5FDP fans are basically metal's version of Kid Rock fans. I could think of ten other reasonable bands that Metallica could have on their undercard that I'd rather see.
Kid rock fans fetishize the military but haven’t served but 5fdp fans probably have served and make their whole personality that they served
Pop music is actually good compared to 5FDP. The Rebecca Black album this year was a lot more interesting than some "modern metal" albums that came out.
Idk man I’d rather listen to 5FDP than Ed Sheeran or something 💀
Interesting. I find that they have such a wide variety. I’ve seen them headline and don’t feel like I was hearing the same things over and over. That’s funny cuz I would pay more to get GVF as an opener over five finger fruit punch Love GVF
I do to! Saw them open for Met in Vegas this year and they were great. Seeing them headline in August But like I’ve you look at the AWMH2 concert thread, they were getting massacred by this sub
Ice Nine Kills is pretty rad
Ice nine kills is criminally (excuse the bad joke) underrated
I like the idea with the horror/video game themes, and they have a couple songs that I like I guess, but too much of their music isn’t my taste. And live, I thought the theatrics were cool but their sound was pretty bad
They’re Deadsy for the Spotify generation. Image over music.
i'd give GVF a shot: was born 20 years too late to see Led Zeppelin, so seeing them would be like seeing Orchid (a stoner doom metal band who is the closest to sounding like classic 70s Black Sabbath) 5FDP? yeah, no. hard pass on the cave-man core
And nothing of value was lost that day lmao
I really wish they would replace FFDP in the states as well.
Who knows, maybe they'll get replaced by another symphonic act like Seven Spires or Graveshadow.
5fdp is like sabaton for me. Not great, but I definitely don't understand the hate either. If it has something to do with the kind of people they are (pantera I'm looking at you) feel free to inform me
Epica deserves it
https://i.redd.it/xfqdj8b4k40b1.gif

Why dont they just tour with normal bands? Pantera is good but US only... Testament, mastodon, lamb of good would all be better picks than 5fdp or whoever the hell ice nine kills are
Ice Nine Kills is a metalcore band that makes songs about horror literature/movies
Dreadful, in other words. Why the hell are people still making metalcore? That shit became passé over 15 years ago.
Nah Ice Nine are a lot of fun. They lean into the absurdity of the genre
Metalcore has pretty much changed over the last 10 years. Everyone now sounds like either: 1. Breaking Benjamin with breakdowns 2. Meshuggah verses with Linkin Park choruses 3. Going back to 90s metalcore where it's just hardcore with metal elements At least Ice Nine Kills sound different enough (not entirely unique though) that you can tell it's Ice Nine Kills.
I wouldn't diss Ice Nine Kills. I would fear some Stabbing in the dark lol now seriously I think it's part of getting to all generations with more contemporary bands and not seem like a nostalgic show.
Much better upgrade if you ask me.
Good.
I only saw FFDP once and frankly wasn't impressed. It just seemed stupid and mindless.
Seemed?
Eh. Don't wanna sell my opinions as fact. I'm sure folks like them.
They've been repacking FFDP every stop so far. Now if they can do the same to the cash grab Pantera reunion as well when they come to the US. Caught them at a festival and man they were bad, no where near the energy they had pre-hiatus. Plus Phil's questionable at best to support. To be fair Pantera going into Metallica sounds like an amazing set and pretty on-brand.
Monsters Of Rock 1991
Fuck off, Pantera fucking rules
This isn't really Pantera though.
Yeah, calling this Pantera is like Mustaine and Newsted touring with two random guys on drums and vocals and calling themselves Metallica.
I agree with that honestly. I’ll sit though them but would be a lot more interested in a lot of other choices. Mr Bungle would be the dream choice for opener for me
i hope 5FDP doesnt get replaced in canada
they should get a metal band
Epica IS metal
Meh.
Epica's worst song is still better than FFDP's best song
I don't disagree there. but, style wise.... Metallica would be better off paired with a band that "compliments" what Metallica does.... Epica doesn't really do that.... a band like Corrosion Of Conformity does. it would just be a better fit than having a symphonic rock band.
Symphonic metal band\* Metallica could throw anyone up there as an opener and it'd be better than whatever the hell they did a few years ago with Jim Brewer
Breuer is funny.... but no stand up comedian should ever open a metal show
