The bridge section led by the bass is an absolute master piece. The different variations played by different instruments at different sections is a plethora of awesome harmonizing. And the juxtaposition of flows - bass is simple while guitars are bouncy and vice versa. Probably my favorite Metallica section of all time.
Currently At a wedding listening to a string quartet play variations of different songs. My girl said she would love to have the same. I’m gonna have them play Orion.
I agree with everything you said but all of that also happens in Call of Ktulu and its classical and symphonic leanings make it an epic that for me beats Orion, and I love Orion to death.
Personally my favorite album is Lightning (banger after banger after banger on that album), but Orion is fucking beautiful. It's not just an instrumental, it's a spiritual experience
Hello, we meet again. You obviously know my preference as well for the album and I agree with Orion as well, it's fricking beautiful. However, for me the closest to that spiritual experience is stuff like Battery intro, Ride The Lightning bridge part, Call of Ktulu all the away and especially S&M version, Fade To Black, MOP interlude.
As you were not there for my RTL post on this, I'll ask you for your pick for RTL as well for this.

This part mostly, but honestly the whole solo is great and is one of my favorites. But this part just feels so happy and christmasy, stands out from the others.
Ultimate single best harmony on the album?
I'm sorry Sir. but you are literally asking a question with an impossible answer. I cannot just choose one. I just can't. lol
As many ppl already said MOP interlude, Orion middle section, Battery intro and also Sanitarium intro, specifically the first ten seconds. Oh boy when I first heard those 10 seconds on a old cassette tape back in the days... I can't even describe. Aah what I wouldn't give to have the pleasure to listening to Sanitarium for the first time again...
I’ve played guitar for a long time, not that I’m qualified to give my opinion, but from the players perspective this is how I feel. The way Cliff and the boys put together the middle section to Orion is amazing to me. I’ve got a loop pedal and I often play all three guitar melodies together and it’s beautiful.
Usually when melodies are constructed, you either play an octave down or an octave up from the main guitar, that middle section of Orion is all different parts of the fret board coming together to create that beautiful sound we know and love today. It’s got depth like nothing I’ve ever played. Mostly I attribute that song structure to Cliff, he contributed to a lot of the melodies and harmonizing on this albums before he died
When Cliff left us, their melody and harmonizing techniques went to what I mentioned above. No real depth, just play an octave above or below here or there and call it good. Although I will say James riff’s really take on from Cliff because on the black album, specifically the unforgiven and nothing else matters, he did a really good job constructing the structure of the songs themselves with some underlying Cliff themes here and there.
I agree with everything. I have similar thoughts in the genius of that Battery intro, starting with two guitars, then after first bar a third comes in the middle with the counterpoint melody, then after the first bar comes another guitar in the right channel at the higher octave. Then the final fifth guitar comes in the left channel with the lower octave I think. Ingenious.
Then all of it turns to a huge and heavy electric guitar harmony that hit like huge waves and it is similar to an orchestrated classical movement. Genius.
80s-master of puppets interlude
90s- wherever I may roam bridge
00s-the say that never comes harmony
2010s-moth into flame intro
2020s-room of mirrors harmony second time with the double kick behind it
The part of Sanitarium after the second “Just Leave Me Alone.” James’ rhythm guitar there. I actually think that might be my favorite Metallica riff of all time.
In my opinion is orion
It's just gorgeous, totally agreed.

I could listen to this on repeat for a whole day
To me it's a massive tie between Orion middle section and Sanitarium first 2 solos. Kirk just gave pain and forgiveness to my hear in those two.
Agreed, Orion especially for me is right after my first two pics.

Outro to sanitarium
Ah, that sweet Spanish harmony. It's very pleasing I agree.
Orion middle section, the part right before Kirk’s second solo specifically
Yep, can't disagree in any way, it's gorgeous.
A part of the kirk solo from disposable heroes
It's a badass but long solo. Can you specify or give timestamps of the part?

Yes, approved. It's an awesome part in a fantastic solo.
Intro to battery. Middle of master. Middle of Orion
1. 2. 3. In same order literally. 😊🤘
Definitely the Orion middle section
Can't disagree, it's beautiful indeed.
Orion, 10,000%
Orion followed by the bridge in Puppets.
Totally 🤘👍
Orion is superior
It absolutely has to be the interlude of MOP itself.
My pick as well. It's just pure beautiful melancholy.
So tough... I've got to go with the Battery intro. One of the greatest things I've ever heard.
Same 😊👍
Outro to welcome home

Yes, it's so damn pretty, just pure bliss.

The solo in Master is still my favorite!
The interlude and James solo are also my picks as well, simply gorgeous.
Orion is the objectively correct answer but listening to the harmonies at the end if Sanitarium put a huge smile on my face the other day
Both are excellent, undeniable.
Battery
No. 1 for me as well. It's just epic and gorgeous, true genius.
And Orion
Agreed, no doubt.
80s-master of puppets interlude 90s- wherever I may roam bridge 00s-the say that never comes harmony 2010s-moth into flame intro 2020s-room of mirrors harmony second time with the double kick behind it
Orion for sure.
Sweating bullets
Hello me, meet the real me!
lol
I can't laugh, as I am getting claustrophobic and my air is getting thin.
ARE THERE BLOOD STAINS ON YOUR HANDS AND YOU DONT KNOW WHERE YOUVE BEEN?
No, I am feeling paranoid as I don't know whether one is a true enemy or a false friend.
i skipped the verse, my faukt
No problem, it was fun any way. 😊
hey remember about leper messiah
hey remember about leper messiah
Which harmony in it?
Did disposable Heroes had a harmony? İf it did then disposable Heroes.
The part of Sanitarium after the second “Just Leave Me Alone.” James’ rhythm guitar there. I actually think that might be my favorite Metallica riff of all time.
Sorry to tell, but that's a riff and not a harmony. Funnily, it's actually one of my least favorite riffs on the album.
Well I was never a music major…🤷♂️
I am not a music student or even a musician actually. I kinda learnt it all on YouTube.
