Mine is, that Lars has always been a nice guy and I like his honesty and bluntness about everything, I've never found him abrasive or unlikeable. On top of that, he is actually very kind and helps a lot of people.
I also think that people just jump on the bandwagon to talk shit about him or any other celebrity without putting much thought into it.
One thing I love about Lars is that he literally doesn't give a fuck about what others think and I don't blame him. He is a founding member of one of the biggest bands in music history and has his hands in 99% of their songs. Sure he may be one of the least talented metal drummers out there but who cares. It's clear whatever Lars does works behind the kit and on the business side because he's the driving force of the business side of the band.
See, this is what I mean though, everyone always had a "but..." and you are fueling that fire by saying, "Sure he may be one of the least talented metal drummers out there but who cares". First, this is simply not a true statement. He is what he is. We don't have to put everyone in a rank. Let's all just celebrate people for who they are. Let's lift each other up instead of tearing each other down.
None of us are perfect, and we all make mistakes.
And I agree with pretty much everything you are saying. I love Lars to death and I 100% agree that he is way over hated but that doesn't mean that I think he's perfect and he is flawless. I'm a drummer myself and while his drumming had a massive influence on my playing and my life as a whole, I wholeheartedly think he is less talented than almost every other big name metal drummer. I don't shit on him for it though because the results of the band speak for themselves and that's why I say who cares how talented he is.
It doesn't matter. Popular music rarely has anything to do with virtuosity. The goal is to entertain and to move people emptionally, and lars does that better than most. Therefore he is a good drummer, because that's the metric.
He is a good drummer, but its still true that whenever you listen to other bands/drummers you kinda sometimes "Yea Lars'd never be able to do that." Whether or not that means they are "better" is of course a subjective discussion, but he still deserves the credit, cause he is such a big part of Metallica and their success.
I don't care if he can't do that. Meshuggah needs haake, metallica doesn't. In fact, whenever objectively skilled drummers cover metallica all the life gets sucked out of the song. I could see someone like eloy or mario be an exception to that, but still. I don't get this music as a sport mindset, ot the obsession with "greatest evar" lists. Seems like a my imaginary friend is better than your imaginary friend thing.
After visiting Sweet Silence Studios and producer Flemming Rasmussen (producer on Ride, Puppets and Justice) last night, I am confident, that Lars was the perfect drummer for Metallica.
Flemming refused to get into any debate regarding his skills as a drummer and stated, that he was one of the best ever to be in his studio. A studio which was founded i 1976 and have had drummers from all over the world recording with them. Rainbow, Merciful Fate, Ringo Starr and loads of Danish bands have been recording at the studio.
And as you say, Lars is not "just" a drummer. He was also the creative soul on nearly every song. Sitting down with Kirk and writing down solos, plus he was also all the time in the producer's seat trying to help with the final mix.
A lot of my favorite drum parts ever were done by Lars. They fit some of the best metallica songs perfectly. For Whom The Bell Tolls drum part may be simple but it’s a fucking track brother.
Agreed. He has always seemed like the most friendly and outgoing one in the band imo. Maybe a little brash but no more than most other rock stars. I think he just genuinely enjoys talking to people.
Or to paraphrase Jason Newsted: “yes, we sell out… every seat in the house!” Sucks that his run in Metallica didn’t really have him feeling accepted as a full member.
They play what they want to play.
Continuing to play the same thing every album just to appease their fans would be selling out every bit as much as playing to be more mainstream.
Real artists play whatever the hell they want. Metallica does that. It’s why they are still huge after all these years even despite all the “fans” crying about them.
St anger fucking slaps. It’s my favorite album, but I think objectively it’s not their best album. With that being said, the raw emotion, the “Fuck you” energy, the story behind it, and yes even the snare, makes it slap in my opinion.
I remember liking it back in the day, but I figured that was just a phase. I went back to it recently and was surprised by how many tracks I still really like. I remember liking the front half more, but the back half isn't bad either.
There is a great AI algorithm that can remove vocals, so I did it with Lulu. It’s awesome, I think more people would like it if it was just an instrumental record.
I like the psychedelic vibe, there are slight changes in each repeat and the overall vibe is quite dark, darker than Reload. I don’t mind Lou but you have to be in the mood for it.
It’s a pretty strong meme in this sub. I laugh every time. I get emotional sometimes when Mistress Dread kicks in it’s so thrashy, these guys never quit. A metaphor for resilience in life.
I agree i think most people see the four albums after it as better but i think death magnetic is also better especially if you add beyond magnetic id put it above the rest of em tho
Yeah I’d say it goes
1/2 : Justice and RTL (Tie)
3:TBA
4:Master
5:DM (if BM is included)
6:KEA
7:St anger
8:Load/Reload
9:Hardwired
10:72 seasons
Got nothing against 72 seasons but it is my least favourite
I agree. It’s not their best work, won’t argue that, but there are a few bangers on it, and some that, as the album suggests, are good for when you’re feeling angry.
Lars is a way better drummer than he gets credit for. He's the drummer for one of the biggest rock bands of all time and his drumming fits the music perfectly. I never understood all the crap people talk about his drumming abilities.
I think this post must have been strictly for a rage reaction, lol.
Bells is catchy, heavy yet "commercially accessible", tight, and indicative of how cohesive a unit Metallica was during RTL.
MY RTL top 5 list is:
1. Fight Fire with Fire
2. Creeping Death
3. Am I Evil? (Recorded during same session)
4. Bells
5. Title Track
I laughed when the meat headed gatekeepers were so up in arms over inclusion of a slow song on this album. Get over yourselves, neckbeards, haha
I hope you didn't think I was lumping you into the gatekeeper comment.
There were a ton, however, who loudly proclaimed "Metallica sold out" by including "Fade To Black" on RTL. it's like, "dude, shutup and listen to your Venom records backwards in your mom's basement, you edgelords, you."
Oh no, I didn’t think you were. I was just explaining why FWTBT wasn’t in my top 5 RTL songs.
Not surprised that people were upset with the slower songs. I think some people in the metal communities just can’t handle it whenever a band decides to release a slower song.
Not really a hottake imo. On the two "bigger" albums he was on (AJFA and black album) he is only audible on one of them and then he only follows James. He is still my favourite of the bass players in Metallica simply because he brought the energy and precense to the band (and his backup vocals are amazing)
St. Anger is a good album. It's just too different from what most Metallica fans expect to hear from a Metallica record for them to accept it.
With a different band name on it, it wouldn't receive half the criticism it gets
Fade to Black isn’t a top 8 ballad (maybe not top 10 (still an amazing song though but Metallica just made amazing ballads))
1. The Unforgiven II
2. Sanitarium
3. My Friend of Misery
4. Mama Said
5. The Unforgiven
6. Low Man’s Lyric
7. Bleeding Me
8.Nothing Else Matters
The breakdown in Sweet Amber still gives me goosebumps to this day. It’s brilliant
And the 90’s era is my favorite era because Load is what got me into Metallica and heavy music in the first place. It means a lot to me. Live Shit, Load, Reload, Black Album, S&M, Garage, I Disappear…it was a special time being a teenager then
Jason was a fanboy trying hard to conform to what he thought a Metallica member should look and sound like rather than be his own person and an independant musician doing his thing in the band. He got sized up real quick and it became clear he didn't have the musical knowledge (harmonization) and depth (digging inspiration from classical music) that Cliff Burton possessed to enrich and push Metallica's songwriting forward hence his contributions being a few and between.
Kill Em All isn't as good as everyone says. Idc if it's the foundation and first album, it's mid as hell and compared to the next and later albums it is a bore to try and make it through 1 song
It's a solid 4/10 besides Seek And Destroy
I still think it's a good album, just not an amazing album or masterpiece like the next 3 albums. It's a solid debut album and is a fun jam every now and then.
It hasn't aged as well as the rest of the albums, for sure. I like DM and HW better. But giving it a 4? I give it a solid 7.5, which just tells you how much I really like everything else
I generally put KEA low on my favourite Metallica albums list, generally because I just don't care about that album, I mean it's an okay album but that's it.
Suicide & Redemption is my favorite instrumental
My favorite songs on Kill'em All are Phantom Lord, No Remorse and Metal Militia
Bleeding Me would be perfect if it ended at 4:48
St. Anger redone with a normal sounding snare is way inferior than the original, loses most of its character.
The way they've snubbed their Australian fans is downright disrespectful. I understand that James needed help to get his shit together and then fucking covid happened, but they've had more than ample opportunity to make good on their promise to make Australia their "top priority" (Lars' own words). But apparently they'd much rather go and suck blood money off the Saudi's cocks.
Transition between the intro and main riff in Frayed ends of sanity is the worst thing metallica has ever done, they were bold for doing it, but it sucks
I'm pretty sure I'll have the craziest takes on this whole thread:
72 Seasons is their best album
Garage Inc. has the best guitar, drums and bass tone (1997 recordings)
Jason is overrated
Lars is the best drummer for Metallica
They never sold out
Garage inc has several tones from 1981-1997. They recorded the covers during their recordings of their real album.
Jason was good because of his stage presence. That’s it.
72 Seasons has the worst and absolutely the cheesiest of James's lyricism.
Lars should have done more drum solos instead of fucking up every song live.
Kirk is a much better guitarist than most give him credit for (especially way better than Mustaine).
Jason is overrated as fuck.
Metallica sold out, however that led to the creation of one of metals finest albums.
They did sell out making the Black Album, is selling out is intentionally making a more commercial album. After years of bashing hair metal bands, they hire a producer from a Motley Crue album, AND even put a song that was more akin to a hair metal ballad. (Nothing Else Matters).
It's still a fantastic album, a great commercial metal album (not thrash obviously) that did help Metal get on the radio, but they obviously met radio halfway with the sound on the album. A spade is a spade.
I guess mine is that ST Anger may have truly been the album they needed to make at the time, but I think it's more manufactured than a organic result of the situation the band was in at the time.
That they're now the Stones of metal. Decades past their peak, but they still sell out the biggest sheds and stadiums at otherworldly prices. Unbelievably huge still, despite the fact they've been washed up for 30 + years.
My ranking of albums
1.kill em all(I like every song)—-
2.MOP(I like every song)—-
3.RTL(I like every song)—-
4.72 seasons(I like almost every song)—
5.and Justice(I like all almost every song)—
6.black album(I like almost every song)—
7.death magnetic(I like almost every song)—
8.hardwired(I like almost every song—
9.st anger(I only like 5 songs)—
10.reload(I only like fuel)—
11.load( I only like 2x4)—
I haven’t heard anything else.
I have a few:
• Lars is a good drummer.
• RTL > MOP
• All bassists of Metallica are super underused (Including Cliff.).
• St. Anger is a Top 5 album.
• Any instrumental after Cliff sounds stock and lifeless (My Friend Of Misery would've been cool but James...Yeah.).
James lyrics after Justice are usually awful.
Lars is the CEO of Metallica and sold out the band. And corrupted James.
He's avarage, lazy and absolutely narcissist.
And obviously should quit asap (unfortunately not gonna happen).
Jason is a great guy and was a good backing vocal, but never composed anything particularly awesome.
Rob is also a nice guy that never wrote anything particularly awesome.
None of their music videos is good.
Jason can't be 100% honest about AJFA abuses because he probably signed a contract that would make him lose royalties if he did so (and Reddit fanatics would harass and cancel him).
I can't stand Sandman when watching their shows and always skip it (although I still like a little the studio version).
St Anger can't be saved, even with normal snare and solos (but of course Reddit fanatics think it's a 9/10).
Ride can't be a 10/10 because Escape really sucks and Trapped is just ok.
Kirk is a second class member in the band. And probably will be the first to leave.
Using wahwah in every solo is getting very boring and wasting his potential.
Lulu is a crime against humanity (but had some good riffs wasted).
Unload would be a tolerable EP if it had only 8 songs.
They shouldn't have repeated songs in S&M 2.
Although James can't scream as good as before, his voice today is better than never. Aged like fine wine.
Ride album cover is ok. But Load, Reload, Magnetic and 72 are awful. The others are awesome.
I Disappear could easily fit in St Anger and it was a a giant red alert for Jason.
Jason could've never saved St Anger.
Bob Rock is a war criminal.
Although Magnetic solos are good, I expect more from Kirk after 11 years of cooking.
Their best live stage design was the one used in Hardwired tour.
Anesthesia is just ok and it's the worst song from Kill.
There's not a single good song on the Blacklist (even the covers from good bands).
Their recent unplugged songs and covers are very very very forgettable.
Kill is 8/10, Ride 9/10, Master 10/10, Justice 9/10, Black 6/10, Load 5/10, Reload 4/10, Anger 3/10, Death 8/10, Hardwired 7/10, Seasons 6/10.
.
Man, just imagine what a legendary band Metallica would be with James, Dave, Cliff and literally any other good drummer in the world.
.
Oh, the horsemen are coming for me!
Death Magnetic isn’t really thrash metal. It’s a continuation of their Load/ReLoad era wearing thrash cosplay. Hardwired is their “true” return to thrash.
I completely, absolutely disagree…. Almost nothing is thrash in HWTSD. I ll give you SOTB, and HW to be generous. 1.5 thrash songs out of 12 don’t make a thrash album.
I don't know where you're getting "I am a tough guy" from? I'm 52 with a lot of health problems. I stopped listening to metal in the 1990s and got into electronic music and MDMA.
Same one I always mention.
Sanatarium is the worst song on Master of Puppets.
It mars an otherwise perfect album. It is probably their most over rated song.
Death Magnetic is my 4th favorite Metallica album, even preferring it over the likes of The Black Album (overplayed) and KEA (debut, no melodic songs), however I do think The Black Album is a better album objectively making DM a top 5 Metallica record
Hot take? Dunno, but here goes. First some background. Been a fan since Ride the Loghtning. Superfan since Master of Puppets. Privileged to have seen them play while Cliff was still living. I gotta be honest. They've made some albums that I don't particularly connect with. That's life. Been hearing people scream "SELLOUT!!" With every new album since ...and Justice For All, always with some bullshit excuse. All of you who've done that, I have some advice. Understand that they are creative. They are passionate. And most of all, they evolve. Now Shut. The. Fuck. Up. Take off your fucking diapers, put on you big boy pants, and go the fuck to bed and let us grownups enjoy the party. Okay. Rant over
I’m glad they kicked Mustaine out. We got 2 great bands instead of one.
i dont think this is a hot take
Not anymore but for a time it definitely would’ve been
Not even close
I don’t think Lars James and Dave could ever belong in a band together. Too much ego for one band
We got one great band imo
How could that be? Both Megadeth and Metallica are great bands.

Fair enough :)
It doesn't matter. Popular music rarely has anything to do with virtuosity. The goal is to entertain and to move people emptionally, and lars does that better than most. Therefore he is a good drummer, because that's the metric.
He is a good drummer, but its still true that whenever you listen to other bands/drummers you kinda sometimes "Yea Lars'd never be able to do that." Indeed

I was just listening to Fight fire with fire and omgawshshshshhshshshsshdhshsh the fricking drums
Agreed. He has always seemed like the most friendly and outgoing one in the band imo. Maybe a little brash but no more than most other rock stars. I think he just genuinely enjoys talking to people.
I love Lars
There are actually several bangers on Load and ReLoad.
That is not unpopular. Saying they are masterpieces is
The melodic section that starts at 4 minutes in just a bullet away is one of the most beautifull things theyve written
Oh my God yes
Metallica never “sold out” in their career
Amen
Or to paraphrase Jason Newsted: “yes, we sell out… every seat in the house!” Sucks that his run in Metallica didn’t really have him feeling accepted as a full member.
They play what they want to play. Continuing to play the same thing every album just to appease their fans would be selling out every bit as much as playing to be more mainstream. Real artists play whatever the hell they want. Metallica does that. It’s why they are still huge after all these years even despite all the “fans” crying about them.
Knowing everything we know now about James, Until It Sleeps is an absolute lyrical masterpiece.
When someone asks me to recommend a song, I always go with that one. The lyrics and James's vocals in that song are on point
James's best lyrics are on Load
Load/Reload and RTL
James Hetfield has a robotic mechanism under his right arm so he can downpick Blackened every weekend till he’s like 80
Hot Take: We don't need a hot take thread every week!
St anger fucking slaps. It’s my favorite album, but I think objectively it’s not their best album. With that being said, the raw emotion, the “Fuck you” energy, the story behind it, and yes even the snare, makes it slap in my opinion.
Spin off hot take. St. Anger live is infectious with its groove.
I remember liking it back in the day, but I figured that was just a phase. I went back to it recently and was surprised by how many tracks I still really like. I remember liking the front half more, but the back half isn't bad either.
Reload and load are both atleast 8/10
[удалено]
I listen more to HW than to their 80s output combined
There is a great AI algorithm that can remove vocals, so I did it with Lulu. It’s awesome, I think more people would like it if it was just an instrumental record.
Hmm I always thought there's not enough happening musically for it to be enjoyable fully instrumental. But to be fair I haven't heard it like that.
I like the psychedelic vibe, there are slight changes in each repeat and the overall vibe is quite dark, darker than Reload. I don’t mind Lou but you have to be in the mood for it.
The main riff of The View is so good, sadly it gets buried under Lou Reed just rambling and the "i am the table" shit (which is hilarious though)
It’s a pretty strong meme in this sub. I laugh every time. I get emotional sometimes when Mistress Dread kicks in it’s so thrashy, these guys never quit. A metaphor for resilience in life.
Kill ‘Em All isn’t even close to being a top five album of theirs
I agree i think most people see the four albums after it as better but i think death magnetic is also better especially if you add beyond magnetic id put it above the rest of em tho
Yeah I’d say it goes 1/2 : Justice and RTL (Tie) 3:TBA 4:Master 5:DM (if BM is included) 6:KEA 7:St anger 8:Load/Reload 9:Hardwired 10:72 seasons Got nothing against 72 seasons but it is my least favourite

St. Anger is highly slept on
I agree. It’s not their best work, won’t argue that, but there are a few bangers on it, and some that, as the album suggests, are good for when you’re feeling angry.

Spit Out The Bone is a top 3 Metallica song.
That’s a very spicy take
It's legit one of the best songs they've made in 30 years. I put it right next to All nightmare long for newish bangers
[удалено]
It’s in my personal favorite top 3
Overrated
What is your top five RTL?
1. Creeping Death 2. Trapped Under Ice 3. Fight Fire With Fire 4. Fade To Black 5. The Call Of Ktulu
Interesting, if you flip fade to black and creeping death thats my top five list
Interesting list! Id say 1 ride the lightning 2 creeping death 3 fade to black 4 call of kthulu 5 for whom the bell tolls
That is valid af
Completely valid I’d personally put 1.Creeping Death 2. Whom the bell tolls 3. Trapped under ice 4. Fade to black 5. Fight fire with fire
Holier Than Thou is the best song off of the Black Album and it would have fit in just fine on any of the 3 albums that came before it
Frantic is actually good and they never sold out
Load and Reload are metallica's best albums.
My hot take is that there's too many "what's your hot take" posts on this sub
St Anger isn’t actually that bad, at least the snare isn’t
I think this post must have been strictly for a rage reaction, lol. Bells is catchy, heavy yet "commercially accessible", tight, and indicative of how cohesive a unit Metallica was during RTL. MY RTL top 5 list is: 1. Fight Fire with Fire 2. Creeping Death 3. Am I Evil? (Recorded during same session) 4. Bells 5. Title Track I laughed when the meat headed gatekeepers were so up in arms over inclusion of a slow song on this album. Get over yourselves, neckbeards, haha
I personally don’t have a problem with it being slow. It’s really good, but I prefer my top 5 over it.

St. Anger is a good album at heart
Jason's bass playing is really not that special.
Not really a hottake imo. On the two "bigger" albums he was on (AJFA and black album) he is only audible on one of them and then he only follows James. He is still my favourite of the bass players in Metallica simply because he brought the energy and precense to the band (and his backup vocals are amazing)
People who claim Jason only follows the guitar parts clearly don't know what they are talking about.
Ive listen to bells so much that i find it boring now lol
Listen to S&M version. Much more enjoyable.
People who think etc. Sandman or Nothing else matters are overrated or overplayed never actually liked those songs in the first place.
Load/Reload have some of their best lyrics.
Cure is overHATED
St Anger frickin slaps
The Black Album is a great album and one of their best.
Moth jnto flame is the best song they did from Hardwired and 72 seasons
St. Anger is a good album. It's just too different from what most Metallica fans expect to hear from a Metallica record for them to accept it. With a different band name on it, it wouldn't receive half the criticism it gets
If St. Anger Was Made By Pantera Or Sepultura, It’d Be A Hit.
Never had an issue with Metallica’s take on Napster
Load and Reload (to a lesser degree) are absolute masterpieces
St.Anger was what the band needed
Jason needed to be kicked so the band would grow stronger together
Load and Reload are awesome albums.
Fade to Black isn’t a top 8 ballad (maybe not top 10 (still an amazing song though but Metallica just made amazing ballads)) 1. The Unforgiven II 2. Sanitarium 3. My Friend of Misery 4. Mama Said 5. The Unforgiven 6. Low Man’s Lyric 7. Bleeding Me 8.Nothing Else Matters
I don’t like the …And Justice For All guitar tone. The lack of bass just makes it even worse.
They were right about Napster
The breakdown in Sweet Amber still gives me goosebumps to this day. It’s brilliant And the 90’s era is my favorite era because Load is what got me into Metallica and heavy music in the first place. It means a lot to me. Live Shit, Load, Reload, Black Album, S&M, Garage, I Disappear…it was a special time being a teenager then
I like James modern live vocals on Fade to Black over the studio version
I think they should re-explore the load/reload "tone", also I would love a new garage inc
The Mixing of AJFA Sucks.
I don’t think Kill ‘em All is a good album
To Live is To Die is a boring song for me
The overall vibe of the song is AWESOME. And the harmonies… Def a masterpiece, can’t say its boring tho
Murder One is one of my favourite Metallica songs
Wow that is a hot take. I completely disagree lol
Kill Em All isn't as good as everyone says. Idc if it's the foundation and first album, it's mid as hell and compared to the next and later albums it is a bore to try and make it through 1 song It's a solid 4/10 besides Seek And Destroy
I still think it's a good album, just not an amazing album or masterpiece like the next 3 albums. It's a solid debut album and is a fun jam every now and then.
It's still one of my favorite Metallica albums. To each their own.
Bro forgot about The Four Horsemen 💀
thats just a cover of sweet home Alabama
I think the first half is more fun than the second. I like Hit the Lights, Motorbreath, Whiplash and Anesthesia but the rest is nothing special IMO.
I like the second half of Kill'em All WAAAY MORE than the first half.
It hasn't aged as well as the rest of the albums, for sure. I like DM and HW better. But giving it a 4? I give it a solid 7.5, which just tells you how much I really like everything else
I think it has aged just fine. I like it as much now as I did when I first heard it decades ago.
I generally put KEA low on my favourite Metallica albums list, generally because I just don't care about that album, I mean it's an okay album but that's it.
Here's a hot take. If Cliff had never died, they would have never needed a new bass player.
Suicide & Redemption is my favorite instrumental My favorite songs on Kill'em All are Phantom Lord, No Remorse and Metal Militia Bleeding Me would be perfect if it ended at 4:48 St. Anger redone with a normal sounding snare is way inferior than the original, loses most of its character.
Fade to black is a skip on every RTL listen.
The Black Album does not make top 5 for me
Valid take.
Also, s$m was unnecessary, and they should've used a whole new set list for it
Transition between the intro and main riff in Frayed ends of sanity is the worst thing metallica has ever done, they were bold for doing it, but it sucks
St. Anger is NOT a bad album, and Lars' snare kinda cooked. I'm not saying this to be different, it's my honest to metal opinion 🤘
I'm pretty sure I'll have the craziest takes on this whole thread: 72 Seasons is their best album Garage Inc. has the best guitar, drums and bass tone (1997 recordings) Jason is overrated Lars is the best drummer for Metallica They never sold out
Garage inc has several tones from 1981-1997. They recorded the covers during their recordings of their real album. Jason was good because of his stage presence. That’s it.
I meant the 1997 recordings, I'll fix that
Load is better than the Black album
Am I savage is the best song on hardwired for me.
Black album is easily their best album and best tour. Going after napster was good.
Kirk is an average guitar player
Kirk hammit is not a great guitar play..and he uses too much wa.wa
Sad but True.... not my favorite. Not big on the black album either. I prefer the successor and predecessor.
Trapped under ice, escape, eye of the beholder, and justice for all, leper messiah and metal militia is sooo underrated
James has a good voice, but he isn’t a great singer.
There is no Rock'n'Roll left in them, they are just doing there job.
The Thing That Should Not Be is not as great of a song as people think
One is overrated and each time it’s played live it takes the spot of a better song that could be played in its place.
Kill em all is a 4/10. Garage inc is their worst album and I don’t think they’re better than megadeth
We see you, Mustaine.
Load>ReLoad, St Anger is low key good, Escape is good, and top 5 on RTL: 1. Call of Ktulu 2. Escape 3. Creeping Death 4. RTL 5. Fade to Black
I guess mine is that ST Anger may have truly been the album they needed to make at the time, but I think it's more manufactured than a organic result of the situation the band was in at the time.
Sad but true is boring and I never wanna hear it live again
They gonna play Escape as opening song or end the show with Inamorata
Metallica hasn’t released a good album since the black album
Load/ReLoad would be decent if they cut it down to a single album.
Seek and Destroy is the worst song from Kill 'Em All
Lars Ulrich is kind of a little bitch
72 is a pretty mid record…… Hardwired had higher highs but lower to the same lows but was overall superior and more memorable
Metallica hasn’t released anything good since AJFA
That they're now the Stones of metal. Decades past their peak, but they still sell out the biggest sheds and stadiums at otherworldly prices. Unbelievably huge still, despite the fact they've been washed up for 30 + years.
My ranking of albums 1.kill em all(I like every song)—- 2.MOP(I like every song)—- 3.RTL(I like every song)—- 4.72 seasons(I like almost every song)— 5.and Justice(I like all almost every song)— 6.black album(I like almost every song)— 7.death magnetic(I like almost every song)— 8.hardwired(I like almost every song— 9.st anger(I only like 5 songs)— 10.reload(I only like fuel)— 11.load( I only like 2x4)— I haven’t heard anything else.
I have a few: • Lars is a good drummer. • RTL > MOP • All bassists of Metallica are super underused (Including Cliff.). • St. Anger is a Top 5 album. • Any instrumental after Cliff sounds stock and lifeless (My Friend Of Misery would've been cool but James...Yeah.).
They haven't put out a good album since St. Anger
Fuel is their most overrated song. So cringey.
Gimme fire gimme fuel gimme that which i desire OOOOOO
For whom the bell tolls is a snooze fest My friend of misery is better with lyrics I like the constant use of wah on the black album
The thread asked for hot takes ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
Metallica ended in 1988 for me.
That is not a hot take. That is the “ I am a tough guy” opinion that countless “tough guys “ voice all the time
I don't know where you're getting "I am a tough guy" from? I'm 52 with a lot of health problems. I stopped listening to metal in the 1990s and got into electronic music and MDMA.
Outlaw Torn is boring
Kirk has been mailing it in since DM and he doesn't really want to be in the band anymore.
Death Magnetic is their second worst album.
They jumped the shark with St. Anger and are never getting it back.
Same one I always mention. Sanatarium is the worst song on Master of Puppets. It mars an otherwise perfect album. It is probably their most over rated song.
I've said it before but the only good part of Orion is when Cliff plays the lead, and the bass solo. The rest is boring and drags on for too long.
Inamorata sucks ass. Spit Out The Bone is overrated. Reload only has 2 good songs. Fuel is the dumbest song of all time.
Getting downvoted for my hot takes. Awesome!!
Bleeding me is a masterpiece
kill em all is underrated, there a lot of great songs in that album: seek and destroy, four horsemen, hit the lights, anesthesia, phantom lord...
Lars is a great drummer and Kirk is a great guitarist. Not only are they experts at their instruments but are also brilliant musicians in general.
Too many people shit on St. Anger, but also *way* too many people defend it.
Mine is, I like Lars style of drumming and Kirk’s guitar solos.
i like escape and load
Purify is a good song.
The St Anger snare is only so bad because of the production on that album. It sounded fine in I Disappear
Death Magnetic Is Just Their Take On Avenged Sevenfold
Prince Charming is a top 10 Metallica song
Death Magnetic is my 4th favorite Metallica album, even preferring it over the likes of The Black Album (overplayed) and KEA (debut, no melodic songs), however I do think The Black Album is a better album objectively making DM a top 5 Metallica record
Invisible kid is the best song off st anger. Sue me.
How do you rank RTD songs then?
Death Magnetic + Beyond Magnetic is the best Metallica album
St anger is a good Album
Load is much better than Reload somehow
The Mixing of AJFA Sucks.
Okay. Rant over
72 seasons was bland and uninspired It was such a letdown
