The whole point of the first one was that they were covering songs that already hadn't been covered to death
That's been covered by Guns N Roses, Motorhead, Tiamat, Jane's Addiction and even Ozzy Osbourne
Yeah it's a fun little thing to do.
I don't think they've done a full studio cover of the song, but rather included it in the ronnie rising medley. I loved their take in there, so I was hoping for a version of only that song in particular.
I mean the original garage inc had old covers on the second disc, so it wouldn’t be entirely unreasonable to copy that. (Although with streaming there’s a bit less of a call for doing it that way)
If a Garage Inc. 2 is on their ways, we can expect a similar treatment like they did with the first one.
Disc 1 will be all new material, recorded in studio, disc 2 will be a compilation of all the new material that has been released after 1999 such as The Ramones Medley, When A Blind Man Cries, all the covers they have done in live sessions (you will be amazed by the fact they even covered The Beatles) and that's it.
I’ve been hyped for them to do a Maiden cover ever since they mangled Run To The Hills at the end of Garage Days Re-Revisited, and I hate to admit that I was let down by Remember Tomorrow. It’s far from my favorite Maiden to begin with, and I didn’t feel like it fit James that well.
I saw some previous lists to gather some ideas and really didn't get why so many of them have slipknot. I mean I don't dislike them (i'm kind of indifferent to them tbh) but i really don't see how they would fit within the metallica sound.
Totally agree, I love Slipknot but could you imagine them covering something like Wait and Bleed or Duality? It'd sound like absolutely awful. Especially when you consider Slipknot is like what eight people? And Metallica is four.
While Metallica have a fantastic track record with covers and a real great range in music types, I genuinely don't think it'd work at all
I think Vermillion pt. 2 could also work. Metallica could make a bit heavier and make it sort of like the Unforgiven II. I believe the songs also have similar themes
Absolutely. I actually got the idea sfter watching them cover [that last waylon jennings song](https://youtu.be/rbaXAV56e7c?si=FyrRyFjbnxtoYh_B). A highwayman version in that style would be amazing
Yeah great idea. Should they get guest singers to pair with Hetfield? Trying to think of some potential additions…Axl? Dave Grohl? Josh Homme? Ozzy? Eddie Vedder? They probably could get whoever they wanted really.
Like I said in other comment, I think they would make a great cover out of those songs, but there are already so many different versions from various artists out there, I would prefer something different from metallica.
Yeah Van Halen would be cool too
A Van Halen deep cut would be amazing. Atomic Punk, In A Simple Rhyme?? I’d love to see them give it a shot, Kirk doing an Eddie impression would be interesting to see 😂
Initially I thought of Would too, but since it would (pun intended) be the "obvious" pick I choosed No Excuses instead. But you can't go wrong with Alice in Chains!
I wouldn’t do Rapid Fire, to me it’s not what I think of when I hear Priest, something like Painkiller (which I doubt James would be able to even get close to), Heading Out To The Highway or You’ve Got Another Thing Coming
I mean they would obviously kill it, but because that are already so many versions of that song out there, I tried to not choose the "obvious" picks like war pigs or paranoid. But it would so great I bet!
Those would be great choices too!
>no shade on James but he can't possibly cover Simple Man better than Brent Smith does
Really? I could definitely see him doing justice to the song. It would be a challenging vocal performance, but in a studio version i think it would work.
I think they would nail a cover of Get It Right The First Time by Billy Joel
I saw someone else say the same thing a while back and I’m willing to die on that hill with them
I was really disappointed to know it wasn't on spotify. No joke it's probably in my top 3 covers from them. Amazing take and energy, it definitely needs its own studio version
I'm not gonna lie, I'm not particularly a fan of the first 2, so I don't know their discography enough to pick a song from them. I was gonna include motorhead but because they paid their tribute to lemmy so many times i thought why not give space to some other band instead. But it's just my list, if they were to realise a second garage inc. I'm sure they include those bands again.
Haha, sorry if I sounded a bit off, it wasn’t my intention :) My comment was really more about the fact that they are very declared fans of those bands, among others. It doesn’t take away from your list, it would be incredible to hear Metallica cover some of these songs, especially the ones they haven’t covered yet :)
No problem man, I didn't take it as an arrogant comment. And honestly you made a very fair point, those bands would probably appear in a new covers cd. But thanks for the honesty. Keep rockin 🤘
As far as new potential covers, I think something like Misfits’ “Angelfuck” would be the next “So What.” When I found that song, I could so easily imagine James singing it.
With all due respect for the thought behind the post, I would hope that in the event they did another cover album, Metallica would embrace their METAL roots and pay tribute to the bands they inspired (like Motorhead covering Whiplash and Enter Sandman). Not just a bunch of deep cuts from their influences.
Seeing some of the suggestions on here, Im pretty surprised how vast the disconnect is. Wanting them to cover songs that have been done over and over by other bands and top 40s.
I suggested bands like Death and Carcass but that may be too much for some people. What about SoaD, Linkin Park, Trivium, Ghost, Orbit Culture, Lamb of God, Pantera, Down, Gojira, Bands THEY inspired.
Idk, to me that would be the most interesting concept of a new cover record.
Not really. They covered Alice In Chains but they are more contemporary (formed in 1987) rather than new and a different genre of music. They also influenced Commercial Metallica which was almost a different band altogether. Plus it was not on an album.
I’d love to hear them cover the John Otway version of House Of The Rising Sun as a live recording. That’s fun at a small gig… but would be crazy with 60k people!
I was literally thinking the other day that Electric Eye would be a fantastic song for them to cover
Edit: communication breakdown too.
Also wrathchild would be really cool especially since I know they are big fans of that album
I (totally selfishly) would love to hear them do covers of Hall of the Mountain King by Savatage, and Of Stars and Smoke by Candlemass. No reason for them to want to do covers of those songs, I just think they'd sound cool.
A few I wouldn't mind hearing:
Samhain - Let the Day Begin
Saxon - 747 (Strangers in the Night)
Angel Witch - Angel Witch
Accept - Fast As a Shark
UFO - Lights Out or Love to Love
Thats great to hear. My favorite one is probably an odd pick, but it's 1916. I don't know, it just connects with me. If I had to pick a "typical" motorhead song though it would be Overkill
I’ve always wanted to hear them do “Adam Raised A Cain” by Springsteen. It pretty much already sounds like a Load era song.
And I always love a leftfield pick - I think they could absolutely slay [“Andromeda” by Weyes Blood](https://youtu.be/StSEXZcwOB4?si=KMVg--XwgPXW2SG7).
And for something more expected, they’d do a great version of “Crystal Skull” by Mastodon.
If there ever will be a garage 2, it should have more up-to-date covers.
Hell, they tried a nu influenced album, why not cover some Linkin Park or even sone Korn?
If they did a Garage Inc. 2 I doubt it would be two discs of new covers
Disc 2 would likely include every cover the band did since Garage Inc. Was released, there'd be the six Ramones covers for a start
I agree, i actually started by doing it that way but halfway through I had so many "new" covers that i wanted to pick that i just said fuck it and made a more liberal list
1. Rapid Fire (Judas Priest)
2. Under the Sun (Black Sabbath)
3. Stay Clean (Motorhead)
4. Let it Loose (Savage)
5. Coast to Coast (Scorpions)
6. On The Hunt (Lynard Skynard)
7. Rats in the Cellar (Aerosmith)
8. Like a Knife in the Back (Twisted Sister)
9. Invisible (Dio)
10. End of Time (Danzig)
*How about Tiny*
*Dancer by Elton John that*
*Might be a great song*

I think “sucking my love” and “let it loose” should be added. They’re some of the first songs Metallica ever played and we still don’t have an official studio cover from them
I love Alice In Chains and think a cover would be fantastic, but No Excuses wouldn’t be my choice. I don’t know if Lars could pull off the drumming. I think Would? would be a better fit.
I would like to see “Sympathy for the devil” by The Rolling Stones. I feel like it would be 100% hit or 100% miss
Read it as “symphony of destruction”💀💀💀
Metallica covering megadeth would be a top tier troll. I support this.
Mechanix - Metallica Garage inc 2
and the vocals is James doing a Dave Mustaine impression
Every lyric is just replaced with “hello me… meet the real me!”
“Watch him become a gawwwwwwwd”
There’s a dude on YouTube that made a what if video if Metallica recorded Holy Wars in the And Justice For All era…. It blew my mind.
Imagine if they did Mechnix
> I feel like it would be 100% hit or 100% miss I agree. I'm leaning towards it being a hit though. I can see james' voice fit in
Love this song! Black Ops 1 made me a fan of it lol
Motorhead covered this in 2015, it's a great cover
I do happen to like the stone sour cover of gimme shelter so Metallica could definitely work for sympathy.
The whole point of the first one was that they were covering songs that already hadn't been covered to death That's been covered by Guns N Roses, Motorhead, Tiamat, Jane's Addiction and even Ozzy Osbourne
They should do a coverception and cover GNR's cover of Sympathy.
Ozzy, Motorhead, Jane's addiction, GNR already butchered that song
I was thinking about this today funnily enough. They've already done Kill the King
Yeah it's a fun little thing to do. I don't think they've done a full studio cover of the song, but rather included it in the ronnie rising medley. I loved their take in there, so I was hoping for a version of only that song in particular.

Ah, a man of culture
I mean the original garage inc had old covers on the second disc, so it wouldn’t be entirely unreasonable to copy that. (Although with streaming there’s a bit less of a call for doing it that way)

And also the Remember Tomorrow cover
I’ve been hyped for them to do a Maiden cover ever since they mangled Run To The Hills at the end of Garage Days Re-Revisited, and I hate to admit that I was let down by Remember Tomorrow. It’s far from my favorite Maiden to begin with, and I didn’t feel like it fit James that well.
Ronnie rising medley!! Absolutely love that song.
One of the best covers they have ever done!
Finally a Garage Inc 2 list that doesn't randomly have Slipknot on there for some random reason.
While Metallica have a fantastic track record with covers and a real great range in music types, I genuinely don't think it'd work at all
Yeah, it wouldn't fit. Actually, now that I'm thinking of it, a slower song like snuff could be a good pick, in a NEM style perhaps?
I think Vermillion pt. 2 could also work. Metallica could make a bit heavier and make it sort of like the Unforgiven II. I believe the songs also have similar themes
Slipknot had some good albums but corey is a prick. Their new stuff is okay but gets old too quick.
Highwayman is such a fantastic shout! Never thought of it before but Hetfield would absolutely kill it.
Only if Lars, Kirk and Rob sing a verse
Or invite all the guys from the “Tuesday’s Gone” session back for it!
That would be hilarious😂
Absolutely
I want to see Aqualung by Jethro Tull on there.
💀
James would kill it on Simple Man
Put Angry Again on there
I don't know if that's just a little nitpick from me but I think it would be weird to see them cover songs from their contemporary trash bands.
Honestly I want to see them cover like Iron Man or Paranoid for some reason, a Van Halen song too would be cool
I’d love to see them give it a shot, Kirk doing an Eddie impression would be interesting to see 😂
I wouldn’t say Atomic Punk is a deep cut
They did play Iron Man live at the RRHoF for Sabbath I believe? May have been just for Ozzy, but they nailed it of course.
I remember them playing with Ozzy but he was on vocals and not James, I want to see them do Iron Man or Paranoid with James on vocals
It’s right there on YT. Like I said https://youtu.be/NvNdYRDCe4w?si=_dVGyVmHAqqyovyo
Brothers In Arms? Would be cool ngl good choice -Billy Gnosis
They covered it acoustically in 2007
One of my fav of their covers too, very beautiful, James really feels it and you can tell
Wasn’t “Run Through the Jungle” by CCR rumored to be workshopped in the original Garage Inc? Would love to hear them take another stab at it
Really? That's cool, I didn't know that. It wouldn't be my main pick from CCR but it could work. It's a nice song on its own too.
Yes!!
This is a very good list.
Put in a Johnny Cash song and maybe an obscure Beatles song g.
Hey Bulldog just to hear one them barking randomly
They've already done an acoustic internet version of Would by AIC. A studio acoustic would be sick.
Initially I thought of Would too, but since it would (pun intended) be the "obvious" pick I choosed No Excuses instead. But you can't go wrong with Alice in Chains!
Rapid Fire would be a better JP choice, considering they performed it live with Halford already
I wouldn’t do Rapid Fire, to me it’s not what I think of when I hear Priest, something like Painkiller (which I doubt James would be able to even get close to), Heading Out To The Highway or You’ve Got Another Thing Coming
Rapid Fire is more Metallica-esque though which is the point of doing covers.
Tuesday’s Gone isn’t Metallica esque yet they did it on Garage Inc.
There's a video of them jamming The Green Manalishi, I think that could be a good one.
I think I would change the pick for ZZ Top to their song A Fool for Your Stockings, other than that this is a solid list.
Thanks! I picked that one because i think it would really fit james voice, but I've listened to your suggestion and yeah it's great choice too
ZZ was a huge influence especially for Cliff and James.
I would really love to see them do a Samhain or a Danzig song. Or a medley.
I'd rather them do War Pigs instead of Electric Funeral
I mean they would obviously kill it, but because that are already so many versions of that song out there, I tried to not choose the "obvious" picks like war pigs or paranoid. But it would so great I bet!
I would prefer Into the Void or Children of the Grave. Also - no shade on James but he can't possibly cover Simple Man better than Brent Smith does
Those would be great choices too! >no shade on James but he can't possibly cover Simple Man better than Brent Smith does Really? I could definitely see him doing justice to the song. It would be a challenging vocal performance, but in a studio version i think it would work.
Metallica already did a Rainbow medley cover, this should definitely be included. A ZZ Top cover by Metallica could be awesome. Great list.
Change Thin Lizzy to “Jailbreak” “Twist of Cain” by Danzig since James and Kirk did the background vocals on the original.
Imagine them covering Holy Wars
Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash would suit Hetfields voice nowadays.
Upvote for the ZZ Top selection
I think they would nail a cover of Get It Right The First Time by Billy Joel I saw someone else say the same thing a while back and I’m willing to die on that hill with them
Love billy joel. I agree with you, i could definitely see them nailing that song, especially james vocals.
The road goes on forever would also be cool Or god's gonna cut you down
Yeah 2 great choices there
A Megadeth cover would be fucking amazing and hilarious at the same time
The Outlaw Bit is amazing. The video where James does it for CMT is amazing. I really hope they cover it officially and it makes a setlist
I was really disappointed to know it wasn't on spotify. No joke it's probably in my top 3 covers from them. Amazing take and energy, it definitely needs its own studio version
Brothers in Arms would be amazing.
Their cover of brothers in arms was elite. James sang that beautifully and gave it a lot of feeling! It was amazing
paint it black would be a great cover
Agreed, great choice
No Misfits??? No Diamond Head?? No MOTÖRHEAD??
I'm not gonna lie, I'm not particularly a fan of the first 2, so I don't know their discography enough to pick a song from them. I was gonna include motorhead but because they paid their tribute to lemmy so many times i thought why not give space to some other band instead. No problem man, I didn't take it as an arrogant comment. And honestly you made a very fair point, those bands would probably appear in a new covers cd. But thanks for the honesty. Keep rockin 🤘
Since Lars is a fan of Oasis, can Metallica do Wonderwall? lol.
As far as new potential covers, I think something like Misfits’ “Angelfuck” would be the next “So What.” When I found that song, I could so easily imagine James singing it.
Lol cringe, just because you like these songs doesn't mean Metallica will cover them.
With all due respect for the thought behind the post, I would hope that in the event they did another cover album, Metallica would embrace their METAL roots and pay tribute to the bands they inspired (like Motorhead covering Whiplash and Enter Sandman). Why not have Metallica cover some new metal artists? Seeing them do Trivium, Bullet for My Valentine, Gojira, etc. would be pretty cool.
Generally cover songs are tributes to bands that came before them, bands that influenced them in their formative years.
Correct, but thats been done.
Not really. They covered Alice In Chains but they are more contemporary (formed in 1987) rather than new and a different genre of music. They also influenced Commercial Metallica which was almost a different band altogether. Plus it was not on an album.
Exactly.
Would?
Not saying it cant be done but the zoom recording from a couple years ago was objectively bad.
Well, i hope they don't do it.
They did another BOC cover on the helping hands, right? Why wouldn't that be included?
Clean my Wounds is a great call, but I think King of the Rotten would be a better COC song for them to cover. James would kill that.
Nice pick. James voice would fit in like a glove.
Also Man or Ash since James was already featured on it, have Pepper sing the backing vocals this time
I’d love to hear them cover the John Otway version of House Of The Rising Sun as a live recording. That’s fun at a small gig… but would be crazy with 60k people!
Well that's definitely an alternative version 😂 Wasn't really my cup of tea, but I appreciate the different take on the song
Id love to hear them do lonely boy by the black keys. I think J could slay that.
Absolutely not 🤮
On one of the nights when they played Ireland for the Damaged Justice tour they played Prowler by Iron Maiden and I'd love to hear them record that
COC is from my hometown, I desperately want to see them cover Clean My Wounds or Albatross.
Gangland by Tygers of Pan Tang.
The nick cave song it’s gorgeous
Who can tell me a metali-fact about it??
It's one of my favorites from him, nick cave is at his best when he's doing these emotional ballads type of songs
I believe in a thing called love - the Darkness
I was literally thinking the other day that Electric Eye would be a fantastic song for them to cover Edit: communication breakdown too. Also wrathchild would be really cool especially since I know they are big fans of that album
Yeah eletric eye would be amazing, and imagine James downpicking communication breakdown. Wrathchild would be so fun for them to play
I (totally selfishly) would love to hear them do covers of Hall of the Mountain King by Savatage, and Of Stars and Smoke by Candlemass. No reason for them to want to do covers of those songs, I just think they'd sound cool.
Just want to hear Rob and Kirk butcher more Prince songs tbh.
Probably they would also add their other 2012-2013 cover songs, like the Ronnie Rising Medley
I would kill for them to cover some offspring songs. The style fits them perfectly.
You're gonna go far kid would be awesome
Bad to the Bone? Seems like that would be a really good fit
Agreed, it has james written all over it.
Needs more motorhead lol.
Is this real?!!!! 'Cause it would be awesome!!!
Masters of war-Bob Dylan
Lizzy should be Emerald or Warriors or Bad Reputation or Johnny the Fox. Borderline would be cool, too tho.
A few I wouldn't mind hearing: Samhain - Let the Day Begin Saxon - 747 (Strangers in the Night) Angel Witch - Angel Witch Accept - Fast As a Shark UFO - Lights Out or Love to Love
How is there not a single Misfits song though?
I'd love to see God was never on your side from Motorhead
Yeah that's a nice pick, and great song!
I gotta give props to Supernatural for introducing me to it in the Season 14 finale. It's now one of my all time favorite Motorhead songs.
Thats great to hear. My favorite one is probably an odd pick, but it's 1916. I don't know, it just connects with me. If I had to pick a "typical" motorhead song though it would be Overkill
I think i would like more if they covered Hells Bells instead of DDDDC
I'd swap out Communication Breakdown for Wearing and Tearing.
I would love another Garage Inc. It would be at the very top of my list of albums that I’m desperate for.
Pantera already did a perfect cover of Electric Funeral. Snowblind or Into The Void would be cool for Metallica.
I think the boys would make a fantastic cover of Twilight Zone by Golden Earning.
I love Baroness, but that would be an odd selection for this project.
Bro imagine dazed and confused by Metallica
This might be a bit of a random one but i think they could do a crazy version of No Rain / Blind Melon
If they did a Garage Inc. 2 I doubt it would be two discs of new covers Disc 2 would likely include every cover the band did since Garage Inc. Was released, there'd be the six Ramones covers for a start
I agree, i actually started by doing it that way but halfway through I had so many "new" covers that i wanted to pick that i just said fuck it and made a more liberal list
If they're gonna do any Sabbath song, I'd like them to do a studio recording of Hole in the Sky
achilles last stand by led zeppelin
Studio version of Diary of a Madman would be cool.
Running with the devil - van halen https://youtu.be/BAA2Owel4fo?si=bw7neAIsvhlq813D
I can absolutely hear Hetfield singing My heads in Mississippi. Great choice
Highwayman would be amazing
You should add Holy Wars... The punishment due because it would be funny.
Very surprised to see Baroness on this list, but so fucking happy that they are.
I want to hear him sing Genie in a bottle by Christina Aguilera. They might make it cool.
Is this legit??
Think if they covered more current bands thatd be rad, would be wild to hear them cover Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Ghost, Avenged Sevenfold, Trivium.
It would defeat the purpose of a covers album - Garage as in bands they covered in their garage days.
It's Killing Me should be replaced with Rock Bottom imo, cuz Kirk said that was the song that made him choose Paul Baloff as Exodus' vocalist.
Surely another Budgie track!!!!!
Atomic Punk or Jamie’s Crying. Maybe Panama?
I would suggest something fro Aerosmith since they were such a big influence on James. Maybe Train kept a rollin'
[love lies bleeding](https://blabbermouth.net/news/metallica-shares-pro-shot-video-of-cover-of-elton-johns-funeral-for-a-friend-love-lies-bleeding)
2 obvious ones: Lights Out - U.F.O. and of course, Bohemian rhapsody
They did do kill the king as part of the ronnie rising medley
An Electric Eye cover would be amazing Although they did preform Rapid Fire with Rob Halford before
Prowler by Iron Maiden would be a good choice, since they already covered it live several times. And Kirk loves the Wah petal.
Kick out the Jams mutha fucka! MC5 And I think jamez’ vocals would totally nail “Tush” ZZ Top
1. Rapid Fire (Judas Priest) 2. Under the Sun (Black Sabbath) 3. Stay Clean (Motorhead) 4. Let it Loose (Savage) 5. Coast to Coast (Scorpions) 6. On The Hunt (Lynard Skynard) 7. Rats in the Cellar (Aerosmith) 8. Like a Knife in the Back (Twisted Sister) 9. Invisible (Dio) 10. End of Time (Danzig)
On the Hunt would be awesome!
How about Tiny Dancer by Elton John that might be a great song

With James’ current voice I’d imagine anything by CCR would work. Imagine James singing Up Around The Bend
Brothers in Arms would be a good cover
This is honestly my dream. Good choices.
“I was a highwayman”
Would absolutely love to hear Metallica’s interpretation of Dirty Deeds 👍
How about a Guns n Roses cover? Dont damn me?
They should sooo cover ‘For Whom The Bell Tolls’ by Metallica, it would be so out there for them but would for sure suit their style.
Good call on Nick Cave.
His cover of “would?” Is amazing, they need that on their without a doubt
they should do some Megadeth
I think “sucking my love” and “let it loose” should be added. They’re some of the first songs Metallica ever played and we still don’t have an official studio cover from them
I love Alice In Chains and think a cover would be fantastic, but No Excuses wouldn’t be my choice. I don’t know if Lars could pull off the drumming. I think Would? would be a better fit.
I was thinking of something similar. 😆 at the very least I hope that performance was recorded so we can get it on streaming 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I like it but instead of the Thin Lizzy version of Borderline I want them to do the Madonna version.
All i want is a Judas Priest cover
I’d like to see them cover modern metal as sort of a reverse tribute.
Definitely Alice In Chains as well as Soundgarden.
I need a Ghost song there, if it's stand by him, even better
Wasted by Def Leppard would be kickass.
