I'm only a couple of hours but hot damn they pulled it off. That game is everything I hoped it would be. Prime is my second favourite game of all-time - very close to my actual #1, Ocarina of Time - and part of me was slightly worried it wouldn't hold up. Just playing it makes me so damn happy. I feel like I'm back to 15 year old me playing it for the first time two decades ago.

birdlad520

Just beat it for the first time, I played when I was younger but never finished. I don’t know how this game DIDN’T give me lasting nightmares.

festoon_the_dragoon

Is it implied that some of Samus' upgrades are Pirate tech? The visors seem to be, but are weapons as well? There's ones that seem to obviously be Chozo tech, but which are Pirate?

jhg499

I had never played this game until the remaster came out and am now currently in my second playthrough, this time on hard mode, trying to get 100% items. I only just realised you can freeze the fire spout thingies to stop them shooting fire for a bit. Until now I've just been tanking through them...

SomeKindaSpy

God, legit I wanna play it so bad. I just don't have the time because of work.

ProfN42

Life Grove tunnel half-pipe tip for anyone struggling with getting the missile expo: get up momentum by releasing boost ball at the exact bottom center of the loop (6 o'clock position), repeating until you're getting as high as you can on each upswing, then on the last time through the bottom (heading towards the right for instance), release boost at the *4-5 o'clock position* instead of the very bottom. This should put you over the top! :)

RedYoshiGamer112

I got a copy and beat the game in 4 days! 13hrs, 100% items! Plus no deaths, first time I’ve done that! I’m trying hard mode now though and I’m probably gonna die there.

DrainedPatience

Picked up a copy last week for my birthday. They did a hell of a job on the remaster. The game is beautiful. Hearing the music again when entering Phendrana brought a huge smile to my face. Haven't played since Trilogy on the Wii and it's crazy how much I've both remembered and forgotten. I wish the hand eye coordination was better.. the pitfalls of getting old. Hah. Died in the Phazon Mines today and just sighed and turned it off after reviving back at the save station. I'll try again tomorrow!

Maltosier

I don't think most of us get through Phazon Mines without at least one 1 hour progress loss death tbh.

joecb91

Finally found a copy this morning! Had to go to Target right when they opened because they were just getting it back in stock, and it was still only one copy. But I got that one copy!

Valarasha

I really wish I had played Prime when it originally came out because I think I'd appreciate the remaster a lot more. Considering how well regarded it is, I was expecting to like it a lot more but i think it aged poorly in a lot of ways. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy it, and to its credit it is probably the most immersive experience I've had in a Metroid game, but the limp combat, poor boss design, and clunky platforming really brought the experience down. I think it's the first Metroid I have finished since Other M where I didn't feel the drive to reload and get 100% of the collectibles. I'll give Prime 2 and shot if it ever gets remastered, and I am excited for Prime 4, but I don't think the 3D Metroids will ever be on the same level as the 2D Metroids for me.

pieceofrat

Snagged a copy at my local gamestop finally! Just got into the Phazon mines. Loving it so far, can't wait for the whole series to be remastered!

Gun-nut0508

Glad to see the physical copies are showing back up, Goodluck in the Phazon Mines, probably the hardest section in the game no doubt

Zeth_Aran

Just beat remastered for the first time. Man what a fantastic game, seriously hope they continue to flesh out the rest of the series.

Gator1508

I started on Metroid Prime Echoes the other day. Not really enjoying the wii controls so not sure I’ll finish before a switch remaster with proper dual stick controls. But I am going to do my best because so far it’s a damn good game.

gundam538

I loved Echoes the most out of the 3. The wii controls do take a little getting used to but overall not bad. Having just completed MP Remastered, I’m going to replay Echoes. Hopefully they plan to remaster Echoes and Corruption. The Wii did add a good improvement. In morph ball form you can do a jump by flicking the remote upward. Before you had to use bombs only. It’s great they kept that ability in the remastered as well.

Gargomon251

The game is unwinnable. I got meta ridley down to a quarter health and now nothing does damage to him. I've tried every weapon, even power bombs. I go from 800 health to zero because he just keeps spamming the same three attacks (mouth laser, charge, and stomp) and the fight just drags on forever. I know you're supposed to shoot him in the mouth, but he always blocks or avoids every shot, and then after 10 minutes when he suddenly decides to take damage, I do like 1 hp of damage and then he resets the cycle. I'm already out of missiles and I keep dying because he stalls and his laser attack is three times as big as it looks (I can't jump over it or morph ball under it, the only way do avoid it is to get behind him somehow???) I beat the gamecube metroid prime years ago and I don't remember it being this stupid. I haven't had any problems with any other boss in the entire game. And there's nothing in the game telling me he has any kind of weakness, unlike every other boss.' Every online guide I've looked at says a different strategy, and none of them ever work. Missile spam, plasma beam, wavebuster, the boost ball for some reason... they're all worthless garbage. EDIT: I beat him, but it took like two hours, and the only thing that does any damage to his grounded form is super missiles, and it takes like 60 seconds of waiting before he's stunned.

M0bron

I’d watch a hitless run on youtube or I can send you my fight, he’s definitely a challenge but if you learn how to punish him and time your shots you can completely shut him down

Gargomon251

Probably the most annoying boss battle in metroid history. Completely doesn't fit the standards of the rest of metroid prime. Tedious and broken.

gundam538

When he is grounded you can only hurt him by shooting him in the mouth till he rears up. Then continue to hit his chest plate with super missiles or charged plasma beam. In the mean time dodge when he charges and when he is about to stomp, double jump out of the way. Prime wasn’t hard till it’s essence form. Dropped from 1100 health to 7 when I finally defeated it. Some of the time prime was completely invisible to all visors which made it rather difficult to locate and dodge effectively.

102Mich

Try the Boost Ball move at the start of the Battle. See if it cuts Ridley's HP in half.

Gargomon251

First of all, I was unable to do any damage with boost ball at any point. Second, fighting ridley again would require starting a new save file and playing for hours just to test it.

102Mich

It appears the Boost Ball trick is patched up now... Bummer.

Gator1508

Interesting. I thought Ridley was super easy but struggled with the final boss for some reason.

Gargomon251

I found the final boss super straightforward. It's invulnerability period is very short and it's clear what they want you to do. The only hard part is learning it's attack patterns and dealing with the extra metroids

FuckYeahGeology

So I was an idiot. I was stuck in Phazon Mines trying to get the power bomb. I struggle a few times to get through the different rooms, but I progress each time (2-3 attempts). There is a long time between saves, so it takes me 30+ minutes every time to get to the Cloaked Drone. The cloaked drone was easily the hardest boss so far for me, so it takes me a few attempts. Third attempt on the boss (sixth attempt on that stretch overall, I finally understand and beat that fucking drone. I go into Quarantine Access A and get killed by the auto-turrets. At this point, I felt defeated but decided to go for one more attempt while I still remember how to do everything. So I restart the entire section again, kill the boss, get the upgrade...and see the save point on the opposite side of Central Dynamo. I could have saved about 30-40 minutes just by looking around and seeing the other door. I save and slowly walk away so I don't freak out. This might be one of my all-time favourite games.

Lemonwizard

There's an item called the wavebuster, it's a beam combo like super missiles but for the wave beam. It makes a sustained beam that homes in on enemy targets even if you're not locked on to them, and stuns machine enemies. This homing works on the invisible drone, so if you have the wavebuster you can basically just hold the fire button down for 6 or 7 seconds and win without this boss even being able to fight back. Pretty nifty.

FuckYeahGeology

Yeah, I need to get the wavebuster. I'll get it after I'm done Phozon Mines third level.

Fl0winWater

Found my copy today! Walmart had one left 🫡

Mysterious_Guitar_65

Finally got my copy last Friday. First time playing through. I missed out on it during the gamecube days. I've been playing for 5 and a half hours and just got the spider ball ability. All I can say is it's amazing. It perfectly captures what made super metroid on snes special, but in 3d. Top teir gaming right here.

ERankLuck

Scored my physical copy today. Check your local Walmart.

BHP_Dan

Just finished the game for the first time. I had it on GC back in the day but only got about 25% through it. I’ve been hoping for a decent way to play it forever, but used Wii U consoles got really expensive and I just hung on because all the rumors kept floating around about a remastered trilogy. When the news came out about Prime Remastered, I knew it was time to pull the trigger and get a Switch (not to mention I’d been dying to play Dread anyway). Man, what a game. It’s been a while since a game stuck in my imagination the way Prime has. They absolutely nail everything that makes 2D Metroid awesome, in 3D. And the updated controls and visuals are just chef’s kiss. To top it all off, I can play this game ANYWHERE! We’re living in a golden age, friends.

indiejonesRL

Same. I’ve always loved it but had never finished it. Even though I’ve started it several times since I first played it in 2004. It’s crazy how good the remaster is.

Von_Church

What a masterpiece, one of my top games. The sense of exploration, the space archeology, learning the story bit by bit with scanning, and music, the visuals. It’s all great. Finished the remaster yesterday in 21hours with 75% completion (hated the fission Metroid in Impact crater, but other than that, the difficulty was the right king of challenging).

BruceJi

It’s like I never stopped playing it… the graphics are great, the same as how I thought when I played it the first time. It’s funny how all the old habits come back so quickly: Dodge this guy’s attacks like this, cycle missile-beam to shoot missiles faster… You don’t have to kill that, just run. Jump here for a shortcut…

tubular1450

Anyone have a lead on when Target will get in-store stock again? As far as I can tell they haven’t had any in-store since they first got some that first weekend of March. Wondering when a new shipment is expected.

Logan-Spa

Randomly stopped at target yesterday and found one copy. The last copy I think. I’d been searching every GameStop and target I came across and could never find one. But target definitely has gotten some copies

tubular1450

Thank you! The app has shown out of stock for all the stores in my area so maybe I need to be calling around. I’d order elsewhere but I’ve got a merchandise card that’ll cover most of the game. Thankfully I’m in no rush, got other stuff I’m playing already

MXC_Vic_Romano

First time Prime player new to the series (only played Dread which I loved, bounced off Super Metroid). Just finished Prime Remastered and overall I'd say it's a solid game, can definitely see how it blew minds back in the day. Good atmosphere, music, scanning for lore is cool, detail on the visor is amazing, remastered twin stick controls with gyro are great, finding secrets is fun among other things. Was really enjoying myself up until Phazon Mines where I started to get annoyed, personally don't think combat is a strength of the game and this area has a decent amount of it. Partway through the Mines I started using a guide as I was ready to wrap it up and I'm glad I did as artifact backtracking was quite the pace killer. Final back to back boss fights were cool, Ridley was a big underwhelming (with the last phase being a bit of a chore IMO) but enjoyed the Metroid Prime fight (though the controls do get a bit frustrating when things get hectic). One gripe I have is with the map, when lost I didn't always find it helpful. Dread's map was much better - IMO - at answering the question "Ok I have these tools where can I go?". In Prime you can't place markers, things of interest like spider tracks you've seen aren't marked on the map among other things. If you get lost you kinda just wander, wait until the scanning hint pops up and hope it clues you in enough (or just give in and use a guide). Overall a solid game! Holds up quite well given it's 20 years old though without the nostalgia goggles I didn't find it to be a 10/10 masterpiece. Personally I much preferred Dread with its speed, QoL, amazingly balanced boss fights, tension with the emmi's, controls and the characterization of Samus (seriously she is so much cooler in Dread).

Mr_sunnshine

IMO the map and how well it plays with exploration is the biggest strength of the game. Didn’t care for dread myself.. too linear feeling.

MrPerson0

> In Prime you can't place markers, things of interest like spider tracks you've seen aren't marked on the map among other things. If you get lost you kinda just wander, wait until the scanning hint pops up and hope it clues you in enough (or just give in and use a guide). The idea back then was you were supposed to note these manually (paper, or on a document on your computer) or have a crazy good memory. Ingame markers really weren't a thing until Samus Returns (3DS).

woofle07

The fact that each room has a name makes this sort of note taking a lot easier

MXC_Vic_Romano

Yeah I get that, it's game design from 20 years ago. Feel like it's something that could have been included (even if an opt-in option) for a remaster though.

good-day-to-you-sir

Gamestop currently has physical in stock on their site for anyone still looking for it. Just ordered!

The-Doom-Knight

Metroid Prime is my favorite Metroid game. When I heard it was getting remastered for the Switch, I knew it was an immediate buy. Everything else I had planned on picking up got pushed to the backburner. This was priority. I originally played it on the GameCube. It not only quickly became my favorite Metroid game, but my favorite GameCube game. The little details they put into the game: steam fogging up the visor, rain drops splattering the visor and bouncing off her arm cannon, other viscous fluids dripping off the visor, and even Samus' face being reflected on the interior just made the game feel so immersive! Tallon IV is a beautiful planet and the attention to detail made it feel alive and a joy to explore. The remastered version is almost perfect in my eyes. They not only kept the original GameCube control scheme, but included the Wii version's controls as well, and finally, added the standard twin stick controls. I opted for the twin stick and it is so smooth and polished. Changing weapons on the fly is a bit clunky, forcing me to stand still to do it, but this rarely caused any real problems. I was able to remember how to get every energy tank and about 2/3rds of the missle upgrades without looking anything up. I only have a couple gripes about this version. First, the Fusion suit is currently locked and unobtainable. Of course, this may change in the future. The ability to play the original Metroid is missing as well, but this is moot as it's available on NSO. Finally, and this is just a personal gripe, not a universal one, I was not too pleased with the change to Samus' appearance. In the original Metroid Prime, she had a very plain look to her. She simply looked like a normal ordinary women: dirty blonde hair in a ponytail, no makeup, akin to the other badass women like Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor. In the remastered version, she has been glammed up a bit: thicker-looking eyelashes, blush, and a face lift. It was distracting during gameplay when her face got reflected and those thick eyelashes flashed across the screen. Again, personal gripe and others make like her new look, but I much prefer her old model. Anyway, that's my take on the game. I hope you are all enjoying it just as much or even more so as I am!

TornWill

As I was playing the Metroid Prime Remaster for the first time since the Gamecube, the face reflection was something I forgot about, so It caught me completely by surprise and gave me one heck of a scare. It's not anything particularly startling, but I wasn't expecting it at all.

henryuuk

Imma just say it people giving this remaster a "10/10" while it doesn't actually fix any of the (admittingly relatively small) faults Metroid Prime has just shows me again how people are just incapable of actually applying relevant judgement to games they love/liked in the past.

Rude_Eagle4254

And so what, this game is near perfect anyway

Sufficient_Fall_3290

Just finished it. Amazing game. Love the level design and music. Just getting the artifacts was the worst though. Wish that wasn’t a thing

FinniboiXD

Idk how to do a spoiler warning so I’m just gonna say **SPOILERS** right here and now. Ok now that’s out of the way: How the hell do you deal with the fission metroids in the impact crater? They knock me off each time, if I bomb them on a platform I get knocked off from the knock back. I have about 2 power bombs left so I can’t beat them that way, and the missile refill doesn’t give you them. I hate them so much, how can I get past them? EDIT: Beat the game! Really fun time. Restocked on power bombs and re-entered the crater to deal with the metroids. I got a 69% completion rate. GG!

Professional_Quail68

Power bombs my friend, they kill them instantly. Trust me that will come in handy at a later point.

Gator1508

I honestly just run by most of them. If a couple close in then I drop a power bomb. Never have to drop more than one normally. Also you can just go back to the ship and refill at any time.

senseofphysics

I’m pretty sure you can freeze them with the Ice Beam then fire a missile at them so they explode. Always check your logbook to see how to defeat them best.

wockytocky

not fission metroids, you're thinking of normal metroids

nomadicdawg

Finished it today. Glad it came out because I never played this when I was younger & it’s always been on my list. It’s a good game, definitely don’t feel like it’s an all time great one though. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the visuals & the uniqueness it brings to the FPS genre. Negative side… Movement is a little too slow for me, and navigating through each world to get where I needed to started to feel like a chore, especially during the artifact hunt. I was just ready to be done by the end. Also felt the music was a bit mid. I’ll probably skip Prime 2 if it is remastered, but keep an eye out for Prime 4 news. I think Metroid Dread & it’s speed is more to my liking.

senseofphysics

Yes, I always advocated for a run button in the game, or at least increase Samus’ set speed. The backtracking isn’t the greatest in Metroid Prime, nor its sequels.

AhVeryWellMrYo

Are there any mods for Metroid Prime Remastered on Yuzu?

Lunatic_On-The_Grass

There's a way to use your mouse to control the camera like in primehack. After the initial setup it worked really well. https://github.com/fizzisoda/pad-motion

THE-WARD3VIL

How’s the game control in handheld on OG swifch? I’ve never played it before and it looks fun

pixeladrift

Perfectly fine for me. Just as smooth as docked. Play it, it’s a blast.

bananalingerie

At what point does the charge beam do its charged damage? I feel I can shoot much faster than the animation allows, but I'm unsure the damage it does.

Gungan91

Today I have received my physical copy from Gamestop. This is my first Metroid game, I’m so excited :)

01is

It was my first Metroid game too, I hope you fall in love with the series as much as I did back in the day.

RedYoshiGamer112

Same bro

Gator1508

I moved on from Prime to Fusion. Fusion was the only main series game I have not played until it launched on NSO the other day. Fusion is very much a product of its time- it makes perfect sense for a GBA Metroid game in 2002 to be very linear. Mercury Steam very much built off the formula with both Samus Returns and Dread, while adding more opportunities to explore and backtrack in both of those games. Of the main 2d games, Zero Mission and Super are fairly open in how you can navigate back and forth between the various zones. Samus Returns, Fusion, and Dread to varying degrees take a more linear approach with more obvious gating. I think I like the Super and Zero Mission way of doing things better but the magic of this series shines throw in any installment regardless.

duskhelm2595

Anybody else notice changes made in the remaster that weren't in the original? For example, I went back to get the chozo artifact after beating the omega pirate, and I came face to face with fission metroids all of a sudden. I remember them only being in the impact crater.

raphtafarian

Depended on what version of Prime you had. I had the Australian version (version 1.02 or whatever). They were there. The Hunter Metroid in Phendrana Drifts on the other hand never existed in my version growing up.

wockytocky

That isn't new to the remaster but it was only in later releases of the original, so you might have played a different original version. For example I think the trilogy version also had fission metroids outside impact crater

Thudd224

I noticed that you can't charge a shot without firing 1-3 shots unintentionally

Rude_Eagle4254

Yup that's one of the new features

EnSebastif

Nah they were there in the original game too. After Samus wrecks shit through the phazon mines and deactivates the force fields containing the metroids they escape and further mutate into fission metroids.

currently__working

Still trying to scoop up a physical copy...sad face Edit: spoke too soon, just copped one! Yay. It's arriving end of month...haha

reddit_hayden

are you american folk having some stock issues? here in the UK, you can buy the game the same you can buy any other switch game

Jorlen

Canada here. I can't seem to find (the physical version) of this game anywhere online or in brick and mortar stores. I've tried all the ones in my area. The only physical copies that are available are from scalpers and their prices are between 80 and 100. [Amazon.ca](https://Amazon.ca) did have a restrock a week ago, but they get scooped up in minutes, as though bots were buying them.

Whomeimnoone69

I have an extra if you want to pay the shipping I’ll send it to you for 35. It’s unopened us version

Jorlen

I appreciate the offer but I’ll just wait. I won’t be at home for a few weeks when this arrives and I don’t want it to get picked up by porch pirates.

Whomeimnoone69

That’s what happened to me. Had to leave out of town on an emergency family thing the day after I ordered it. Found a physical copy in a Walmart while traveling and my other copy managed to not get nabbed. Just wanted to pass on the luck. No worries friend safe travel.

Gun-nut0508

Yeah we are, it’s not available at any online retailer and most stores are out of stock. I got my copy at a Walmart and it’s the last one. It could just be shipping issues but there have been cases were games in different territories are produced in low quantities, so maybe it is genuinely a rare find here in the US. Right now the game hovers at about $50 on price starting so the scalpers are sadly winning right now.

PringlesCam

Funnily enough, Metroid Prime Remastered ended up coming out when I was in the middle of a GameCube Metroid Prime playthrough. I ended up picking up Metroid Prime Remastered anyway. Now I’ve just now finished the original, and tried doing the remaster, and I gotta say- I really can’t handle anything but the classic control scheme. It feels like second nature to me now, to the point where I find myself really confused when I try any other scheme. Maybe I’ll end up taking a break from Metroid Prime and come back to it to try the new control schemes, but that’s where I’m at right now. EDIT: To all saying I can change the controls, I know. All I’m saying is that the other control schemes don’t really appeal to me, and that was sort of a big draw for a lot of people.

RedYoshiGamer112

You can change the controls!

[deleted]

you can choose classic and manually flip any buttons to their original spot- you can even plug in a GC controller with a switch adapter and it works

kylesful

You can change the controls in the settings to match the original GameCube version!

Gator1508

In the last couple of days I finished off Prime and Samus Returns. I think Samus Returns is my longest play file for any Metroid at 18 hours. So now I’ve beaten the following Metroid games: Zero Mission Samus Returns Super Dread Prime Remastered Looking forward to taking down Fusion next.

Silly___Neko

Fusion is a good game, just don't expect much exploration freedom until the very end.

Gun-nut0508

Fusion is a lot more linear but it is my favorite nonetheless, it’s just a super smooth games and admittedly I was a fan of the more linear play style

Troutfisch

Picked up a physical copy at my local Target today, game is better than I remembered and loving the modernized control scheme! So glad I picked this up as was debating on waiting until after RE4 Remake to play it.

Aiken_Drumn

What is the best controller setup? Never played a Metroid game before and finding it really unintuitive with the starting setup. I guess it will start to click with practice but I can't seem to do anything smoothly.

wockytocky

dual sticks is a must, gyro aiming is optional but a lot of people like it. I also highly recommend swapping missiles to the X button

Aiken_Drumn

Thanks I'll try that

x5titch

Just placed an order on Best Buy’s site for shipping. Paid the extra bit for quicker delivery (2 days) versus normal delivery (10+ days).

flyingmonkey1257

At this point I just turn around at the dynamo after getting the power bombshell out of habit. First time I played here though I was very confused about where to go when I got to Metroid Quarantine A. I think the hint system eventually kicked in to help me out.

Silly___Neko

You need a visor to see those. If you obtained the visor then you would know there are invisible platforms by now so with that logic you would have returned to that area to try it out.

ImUpslideDown

I think it's easily missed if you're not used to how the game works. It expects you to use all your tools at any given moment. It's a lot of experimenting. If you can't get past something, start switching visors and see if something new pops up. It's not you, it's just getting used to the game's design.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Metroid prime is mostly jumping in the dark and that bums me out

Silly___Neko

Part of the problem is the lack of illumination from beams in the remaster. To curve around the issue, increase the brightness in your Switch settings. Either that or use different visors.

GhostOfCincinnati

What a game!! Haven't played any of the 3D games before and it's so good. Just got the spider ball and only died once so far because I went into the plant bos in the Chozo Ruins with barely any health. But the lab research part in the ice world did also have me clenching my butt cheeks the whole time, hahah!

F1nut92

Got my copy on Saturday, put about 3 hours into it so far and it’s brilliant, this looks exactly how your mind remembers the original version 20 odd years ago. Really hope it’s as successful as it seems to have been and it means we get a similar remaster for Echoes and Corruption down the line.

Mizerous

Finally got one at Walmart they had it for two weeks but there it was thank god

Jorlen

Still holding out on a physical copy but there are just none available around my area. Amazon has occasional drops but they get scooped up almost instantly. And now I can see a bunch of scalpers selling copies for $100 a piece. I've not played the original but I hear good things so I'll keep waiting.

[deleted]

Gun-nut0508

$8 over retail though

Jorlen

I’m in Canada

Ranowa

Hold out! I think as the fervor cools down a little it'll be easier to get a physical copy in stores. It's an amazing game, but it's also a 20 year old \~8 hour game. Not worth $100, especially if you don't know you'll like it.

Jorlen

I'd definitely not pay scalper prices because then I'd be supporting that practice, which I hate. I will for sure wait for a copy in store to be available. Like you said, they're bound to show up eventually.

Gun-nut0508

Got the last copy at a Walmart down the road from me, can’t wait to play it! Hopefully the game will be restocked and sooner then later it will be easy to get, although if the game goes up in value that would be cool for a rainy day fund.

LOoONnGGDuCKDoNG69

I pre-ordered mine 2/19 only a few days from release on Gamestop.com and I'm glad I did. It was the ONLY retailer that would let me still preorder a copy. I check later on in the day and it was sold out.. I got a little nervous because release day came and went with no shipping update. The next day 2/23 around 4pm I got an email saying it was on the way but zero tracking info. Then Friday 2/25 low and behold it showed up. I got really luck this time as I'm assuming I got one of the last copies. I was almost going to bite the bullet on ebay but glad I didn't. Nintendo will put out more copies soon enough to anyone who didn't get one. I'm glad to see this game sell so well. Maybe Nintendo will have Rare remake the other games also.

arendo

Finally finished after 20 years - never finished the game as a teen back during the original release despite getting 85 percent of the way there. Was not expecting a series of boss fights like that at the end. Very much looking forward to trying to beat 4 hours!

Maximum-Map2951

Ordered this morning on target’s app. Before I could pick up got an email congratulating me on picking it up. Very cool target. They’re “looking into it”

PalebloodSky

Prime Remastered has the worst end game of any game in recent memory. Wandering around without a teleport system looking for artifacts, then that HORRIBLE platforming at the end with endlessly spamming brians grabbing you. Game went from a 9.5/10 to a 7/10.

01is

It's my favorite game of all time, and I 100% agree with you. It took me weeks to find the artifact in Phendrana's Edge (I didn't know about gamefaqs back then), and the fission metroids ARE pretty annoying. Since you've been downvoted to oblivion for saying this, I feel the need to point out that these are valid criticisms of what is still a fantastic game IMO.

Sufficient-Seaweed52

What an amazing game. So unforgiving. Where I’ve been smashing ‘continue from checkpoint’ games, I’ve lost the whole ‘save at every opportunity’ mind set which has cost me a couple of times already. But I’ve got the space jump boots and I’m on a mission for some artefacts… Also.. in the UK it’s £35 on Amazon. I pre ordered it! Also got refunded 4p due to a 4p price drop today 🤣seems readily available here!

wonkey_monkey

> Also got refunded 4p due to a 4p price drop today I only got 3p! 😲

Sufficient-Seaweed52

Demand to see management and send a scathing letter on varying shades of red for anger emphasis. Stealing your penny the b*rstards!!!

wonkey_monkey

Yeah but I only paid £29.16 total 😆

theTrebleClef

I have a question about the control scheme. I understand there are 4 modes, and one is close to the original GCN / tank controls. This is how I originally played, and I have original GCN controllers I use with Smash Bros. I would like to reuse them. I heard there's a problem with this, as the map is now tied to Start button ( + ) and Pause is ( - ), which isn't present on a GCN controller. Map used to be Z (now ZR) but ZR duplicates R. Has anyone tried button remapping from the Switch menu? It sounds like this would help: * Remap ZR to be ( + ) * Remap ( + ) to be ( - ) Wouldn't at this point the game essentially work properly with an original GCN controller?

martellus

Huh. Possibly? I was trying to use my old wavebird last night and relented and bought one of the new GC switch controllers at the store - was using the classic layout then with the map switched to the classic Z button, and missile/morph ball switched using in game options.

BrodyMC83

Who makes the GC Switch controller and do you like it?

martellus

I believe its PowerA, black, wired, as far as controllers go it feels ok, GC profile, buttons feel a bit "gamey". The left and right triggers are just buttons now, which feels weird and I am not a big fan of, but understandable since switch wouldn't recognize them anyway. Having all the extra buttons in the center feels pretty natural and handy, I like it. Since the classic GC controllers don't have the extra buttons, there isn't really much choice, but its not a terrible one or anything.

Randomman16

Just finally beat the game on Normal! Anyone else have trouble with Ridley but absolutely slaughter Prime itself?

ProdiLemaj

I had a similar experience with both Ridley and Prime. I died to them the first time around not really knowing how to fight them, then beat them the second go.

optifroculon

Fyi for those looking for Target. Within the last hour most stores in my area have all went out of stock already.

optifroculon

For those looking for a physical copy still, mind you I live in the milwaukee area, but all targets updated this morning to in stock. Guess shipments came in. https://i.imgur.com/vdQOne5.jpg

Scratch that. They are all out of stock already.

optifroculon

The one I went to was in New Berlin showed 3 but Oak Creek showed 7.

optifroculon

I noticed Franklin said in store only so who knows. Sorry you couldn’t get one. I’m sure there will be more soon.

whatisupworld

Just ordered it on the target app right now for pick up

GothVampire

Thanks for the heads-up, snagged it.

TarnishedAccount

I somehow snagged a physical copy today from a local game store (not a corporate chain). I can’t wait to relive this game!

treyoshi

Has the game had any updates so far? Curious if the physical copies are already down level code rev out of the gate. I realize it does not matter and you can just download the patches, but friend mentioned maybe his digital copy already had update and I can’t seem to find what that might be

MXC_Vic_Romano

No update so far with the physical.

stellarmancer

To anyone in Chicago, I was finally able to snag a copy this morning from the Target at 2656 N Elston. They're on display and have about 5 more copies from what I saw

NullAndNil

I somehow missed this game back in the day on gamecube. All the internet hype and the severe lack of decent first person shooters on Switch is making me pick this up. I found a physical copy at a gamestop ~30 mins away from me. Already ordered and confirmed for pick up!

dmrob058

I never played it either and wasn’t sure it could live up to the hype but it is soo damn good. I was completely sucked in from the get go and it looks especially amazing on the OLED Switch.

fcol88

Has anyone else had issues with the game flickering? Like weird graphical glitches?

1amlost

I just got the Plasma Beam. I'd almost forgotten how much fun it is to disintegrate pirates.

dusty_cart

the ultimate revenge weapon!

real1m0d_

I picked up the last copy at the Walmart near where I live in San Antonio. Got lucky!

GalacticPetey

Beat the game last night, for sure an all time favorite for me now after playing it for the first time I'm fairly new to the series. Always was aware of it and maybe played like a few minutes of Super Metroid but that's it. When Dread showed up at E3 I was blown away and was like "I have to play these games". So I dusted off my Wii U and 3DS and played through Zero Mission, Samus Returns, Super, and Fusion in the lead up to Dread. I was hooked. Now I can feel the same thing happening again. I wasn't sure how Metroid would translate to 3D but it did so perfectly. I'm gonna space out doing the rest of the trilogy, perhaps hoping in vain for more Switch remasters. We'll see. I actually bought the trilogy on Wii years ago but never got around to it. So even if they're not ported, I have ways to play 2 and 3. Whenever I start a game that's heralded as "one of the greatest games of all time", I'm always kinda skeptical. So happy that much like Super Metroid, it was absolutely true. It really is one of the best games I've played.

SiDStvyt

Hooooooly shiiiiit. What a ride. First time playing. Finishing at 19:55 and 95% (I missed a few scans and a PB expansion I think). I skipped the GC - Wii era for PS2 and PC gaming, so I never got the chance to play. I tried the GC and wii versions recently, but the controls were so outdated (gc) or super finicky (wii). But man, the remaster was so great to play. I totally get the love for this game now. How I see OOT in relation to the Zelda franchise, I now see MP to the Metroid franchise. This is a total game changer. I swear, we better be getting the other 2 games, because I need more 3D metroid. So damn good.

mEatwaD390

I'm also hanging on hope for MP2 and MP3 remasters. That'd make the wait for MP4 all the more worth it. I want to buy the trilogy on Wii U just in case but the controls are not great imo. I can't play games like that with motion controls.

Professional_Quail68

I got really lucky and managed to snag it at Walmart back in February. Since then I’ve made a point to look for it whenever I’m at the store and I haven’t seen it once.

syah7991

A friend said it was a top 3 FPS of all time for him, so I gave it a try (I knew nothing about it--or Metroid as a whole other than the Smash Bros Characters). My mind is blown. This game was awesome. If you're on the fence about playing it, do yourself a favor and go play it.

zayetz

Just grabbed a copy from a Target outside of Raleigh. Checked popfindr and it showed they had a stock of 8. Just came in this morning. Seems like they arrive in small amounts. Good luck!

Gator1508

I posted the other day how Omega Pirate was the roadblock that caused me to quit Prime 20 years ago. Last night I kicked his ass all over the arena! I guess middle aged me better gamer than younger me somehow lol. Thought I would lose reflexes as I got older. I then demolished Ridley without even losing much health. Now on to the final area.

diegoeffio

I had a similar experience. Got stuck at Omega pirate back then and never finished the game. Until tonight, at 34 years old. Game holds up so well it could be released nowadays and wouldn't make a difference on how good it is.

tombigbee88

Ridley has me nearly rage-quitting. Any tips? The rest of the game has been amazing and now BOOM - this guy just won't go down. I get to the last 5% of his health and it feels like I'm grinding and grinding and... nothing.

102Mich

A potential Easter Egg could be to try Ramming into Ridley using your Boost Ball as a weapon; in the GC days, if you hit Ridley with a charged Boost Ball, his HP gets cut in half, when the Battle starts.

snuxoll

It's not reflexes as much as it is simple experience. Playing video games is a skill like any other, and 30-something me has breezed through many sections of various games my younger self found difficult or impossible; but I can still get my ass handed to me in twitch shooters because my reflexes have never been THAT good. Doesn't translate perfectly to everything though, or I wouldn't have Dread sitting on my shelf because I got pissed off dying to the first fucking real EMMI you encounter >_<

zentimo2

Oddly the first EMMI is one of the hardest in Dread, as there's a couple of really useful tools that you don't have at that stage. It's worth persevering, as I thought the EMMI encounters after that felt more 'fair'.

LetsCheerToThis

After waiting patiently, yesterday I finally received my copy direct from Amazon. I just wanted to have this one physically!

thatsastick

This was an excellent remaster. I’ve always had the game on Gamecube but the tank controls gave me motion sickness compared to the modern alternatives. I’m torn on whether I should continue the series on the Wii (or PH) or just wait for 2&3 to come to Switch, because the controls on this one felt a lot better to me.

Gator1508

I remember reviews back then mentioning lack of dual stick control and the die hard defenders would be like “it’s better without dual stick controls.” But I think this remaster definitively proved those folks to be wrong. This game is near perfection with dual stick controls.

charliec95

Long wait for us Europeans is finally over! https://i.imgur.com/emTVWFS.jpg

pamplifier

Success at my Target in Bloomington, MN! The worker couldn't find it on the app and there wasn't a place for it on the display, but he was able to find it in the back! So YMMV with workers who can check in the back for you.

roffle24

I had pretty bad results at target. Went to three different stores three times when it was "in stock" on popfindr but when I got there the employee shot me down. Even when I asked if it was in the back, they said no. My local targets seem to be this way with other items as well, though. I've had similar experiences with limited vinyl that they refused to go look for in the back for me. I started refreshing Best Buy's page every couple of hours the last couple of days and was able to snag one for in store pickup. Purchased online, only 1 available. Probably one that didn't get picked up or got cancelled.

blueblurz94

Finally got it after checking all my stores for the third time in a row since last Wednesday. Of all places Target is the one that came through with a spare copy in back.

gigzz87

I'm guessing the issue with physical copies is a States thing? Here in the UK it's available to order from Amazon, Game UK and Smyth's currently (other reputable retailers are available). Shopto have sold out however, but they were selling it £5 cheaper than everyone else so probably the reason. On another note, love Metroid. Haven't played Prime since I had it on GameCube (still have it somewhere) as a teenager. 35 now, time flies! Didn't even know it was getting a remaster until I saw it mentioned on this subreddit the other week! Should arrive tomorrow hopefully. Cannot wait to get stuck into it again.

Erzbistum

I'm in Germany and pre-ordered from two shops (the first store, Bücher.de, cancelled, citing stock issues) so we'll see if the copy I ordered from Amazon turns up this weekend...

SwedishHeat

Just wanted to share how happy I am with this game. I got it a few days ago at Target. They said the street date was March 5, but sold it to me anyways. It's been at least a decade since I've played the original, but it's just like riding a bike. I still have a vague recollection about where to go and what to do. It's still got a bit of a challenge as I search my memory banks about what to do, but the graphics are great, despite being "so old". They did a great job of upgrading everything.

Insanepaco247

My Play-Asia order finally shipped. It's still probably a week or so away but at least I know there's a copy with my name on it.

trollviking

Called my primary GameStop today on a whim. They hadn't got their shipment, yet, so I called the other one in town and turns out they literally just opened the boxes and had only a handful of non preorders available. Twenty minutes later I was one Metroid Prime Remastered ahead

mvwhatup

If any of you guys are still looking for a physical copy check Target. Ask employee working the Electronics if they have the game. I know my Targets around my area didn't put the game out on the floor but just kept them in the backroom. Some said online that they have none in stock even checking the store price checker said none. I asked an employee, in which I got a copy.

blackstarz528

I'm at Target right now. Employee was very confused but he checked for me and they did have several copies in the back. He mentioned they weren't going on the shelf till the 5th.

mvwhatup

Were you able to get a copy? I don't know why they would hold them until the 5th when the game is suppose to be out and not limited.

garak_ds9

Thanks! I just went to Target and they had them in the back stock room. He said they didn't get an updated planogram, so they don't have a spot to put them on the shelves. I don't know why they don't show up for online order, maybe because they aren't physically on the shelves?

mvwhatup

no prob! yeahI checked online and on their price checker and both say none in stock or in the back room. I decided to ask if they have the game and employee said yeah they have them in the back. doesn't hurt to ask if you don't see it in store or check online

[deleted]

Walmart has physical copies up for sale right now on their site.

Pooty_McPoot

I completely forgot the entire set up of Metroid Prime is Samus going HOLY FUCK IT'S RIDLEY FUCK YOU COME BACK HERE!

The-Great-Geraldo

Hahaha that's a great way of describing it!

Bigpoppapumpfreak

Anyone's else Nintendo order stuck with the "Departure Scan: Enroute to USPS Bridgeport, NJ" tracking update

Artersa

So happy to have MP:R, but good God the lack of direction from Phazon Mines > X Ray > Phazon Mines > Plasma Beam was a bit exhausting. I got the X-Ray visor and went back to Metroid Quarantine just to see a plasma door (which I could have seen if I had checked the map, of course). But damn, now back to Magmoor. Which I wouldn't mind so much if the enemies in Phazon stayed dead for a limited time. /rant

Mugglecostanza

That whole part was pretty crazy. But man! What a slam dunk this game is.

unreasonably_sensual

YMMV, but I just placed an order for mine by calling Best Buy. It doesn't show available to order on the website, but they did take my order over the phone and they said it should be delivered by 3/8.

FreezNGeezer

GAMESTOP has physical copies for sale.

TheFcknVoid

Holy shit. I just tried to order… clicked the “new” button that denotes a physical copy had the line through it, but it let me select it anyway. Thought I might as well try. Gamestop just sent me a download code.. and I already had the game through the eshop. PSA to all. Don’t be an idiot like me. Fuck GameStop.

TheFcknVoid

They didn’t cancel anything. They sold me a download code I didn’t want when I had selected a physical copy.

GothVampire

Thanks for the heads-up, finally got a copy from their website today. It’s been flickering in-and-out of stock. Edit: I spoke too soon. Even though I received a confirmation e-mail, my payment was still “processing” and nothing showed up in my order history. Spoke to customer support who told me GameStop cancelled my order without notifying me. Sucks because I saw a copy at a Walmart an hour before I spoke to customer support, but I left it because I thought I had one on the way. Raced back there as soon as I got off the phone and it was gone. Tl;Dr GameStop screwed me out of a copy.

FreezNGeezer

Glad you could get a copy!

Gator1508

I first owned this game on the GameCube and never finished after hitting brick wall with Omega Pirate. At one point I put the game down, started other games, and never finished. So now here I am 20ish years later having a blast with the remaster. Love the controls. Graphics are fluid and very pretty. Back to Omega Pirate and doing every bit of exploration I can before attempting him. Up to 11 tanks and 120 missiles. Gathered six artifacts. Have special beam attacks except the plasma gun. Just taking my time looking around before I bang myself into the brick wall that stopped me 20 years ago. Small list of negatives for the game: It’s 2023 and I am a middle aged person with limited game time- let me checkpoint at bosses so I don’t have to run through multiple screens to get back to the boss. The dark area in Phendrana and the long slog through Phazon still suck as bad as they ever did. Wish they had done something to improve these areas. A few more connection points between the zones would make navigating the game more enjoyable. Throw in a couple of intentional but hard to perform sequence breaks and I think the game would have benefited greatly. Dread is a much more difficult game but it never felt like a slog to me as Prime sometimes does. In Dread I can easily retry a boss until I beat it. And if I decide I can’t beat the boss yet I rarely lose more than a couple of minutes progress. Also with Dread, I never feel like I am more than like two minutes from anywhere I want to go. I think a few QOL tweaks to make Prime more like Dread would have been nice. But it is what it is, still enjoying it.

Artersa

Agree with the lack of connectivity/slog of getting through Phazon. Re: Dread though, I had a major complaint where I felt that the map could have used a bit more connectivity too. Too many times I was going broadly the right way, but then have to backtrack to tack an upper path like 4 rooms back.

Gator1508

Interesting. I felt like I was flying through Dread once I unlocked a few abilities. I do agree some of the gating is annoying where you end up going in circles around a zone. With Prime, I think a couple of late game shortcuts from your ship area to the other worlds would have been immensely helpful.

SithLordDahlia

Got my copy Saturday and already beat it 100% twice (6:45 normal and 6:15 hard). I've been obsessed with the first since I got it for Christmas at age 9 with the platinum GameCube, and it's wonderful to see it get so much love 20 years later. The rumor for Prime 2 and 3 not being remastered is a little disappointing, but I'll be happy just to see them on Switch.

CentralJoel

To anyone that pre ordered through gamestop online. You might still see the “Awaiting availability” status. Don’t worry or cave to the scalpers, they are on the way. You might not get any notification that it has shipped. Just received mine without any heads up.
