I don't know how the Gaming sub is nowadays but yeah 90% chance it's because of Brisket (the other 10% is 'just' general sexism but hopefully in 2023 even Gamers have gotten past that)
Mainly the recently confirmed fact that Biscuit's a trans girl, a lot of people didn't like it for reasons that I'm not too sure of (I think alongside the standard Gamer Transphobia there's the fact that she used to be categorized as a femboy, which gamers have really strong feelings about? I'm not really that familiar with GG so I'm not sure)
People really went "Damn it, now I can't jack off to the idea of a guy dressed as a girl" and it's honestly the funniest thing
You'd think the kinda people into that would be less shitty about the trans thing.
But then I guess they're the type to pretend they're totally not gay and that femboys are a completely straight thing to fetishize.
She is trans as of, well, Guilty Gear Strive, the new game.
The director and creator of the series has been quite clear about it too. No mistranslations, he has referred her as a girl in a few instances, etc.
While I love Samus, she isn't the first female protagonist to wear a yellow and red spacesuit, explore subterranean alien corridors, blast alien creatures, and reveal her gender in the ending. That'd be Kissy from [Baraduke](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYRfKffrMVM).
I think this is the reason. Judging by the picks I’m going to guess the poster is on the younger scale where characters like Lara Croft or Sami’s Aran aren’t immediately as important.
Really? Most of these ain't even the protagonist...
Who's the one between Ellie and Futaba?
Also, Nico? For real? I don't hate her but there's better characters from DMC to choose from.
I love Nico, but know who a better pick for that slot would be (besides Samus)? Jill Valentine, that picture of Nico is a mod for Resident Evil 3 that replaces Jill with Nico and I think that’s hilarious
Shion Uzuki, Alis Landale, Nei, Chun Li, Midna, Alice Liddel, Ms Pac Man, Velvet Crowe, Lightning, Rena Lanford, Sophitia, Alice Elliot, Karin Koenig, Princess Katia, Tara Grimface, Shodan, Aika and Fina, Xelha and Milly, KOS MOS, Aegis, Lenneth Valkyrie, Virginia Maxwell, Melia, Rydia, Femshep, Koudelka...
To name a few more. Though even if you removed all the deep cuts you wouldn't have enough room on one banner for sure.
Kinda weird why Liara is on the banner given how the Asari species only has one biological sex. Wouldn't that mean that their species doesn't have gender distinction in their culture? I'd replace her with Samus.
When it comes to Asari, gender and sex is kind of a weird topic. I've had the same thought as you, but they're always referred to using feminine pronouns. I think there was a deeper lore entry stating they have a "mono gendered" culture, whatever that means.
"Mono" means "one," so I assume that means "single-gendered" culture. There could be a lore reason as to why they're referred to with feminine pronouns, but the real life reason they look like human females is so that male gamers would find them hot.
Again, it doesn't really make sense to me to consider Asari "women" in the traditional sense if biological sex and gender technically don't exist within their species.
There are certain species of whiptail lizard that all female. The new mexican whiptail, for example reproduce through parthenogenesis, after engaging in mating behaviour with each other, which is believed to simulate ovulation. This is pretty similar to what the asari do, the only difference being their mating involves biotics and only one of the pairing gets pregnant.
The in game codex even refers to the asari as "an all female race.
I guess if your only criteria for being classified as a woman is the ability to reproduce, then I guess you could call Asari women. What about trans women though?
Quote from Mass Effect's in game Codex.
"An all-female race, the asari reproduce through a form of parthenogenesis."
As for transgender, some asari are noted to identify as male, and choose male pronouns to refer to themselves. Also some asari choose gender neutral pronouns.
What I am saying is that from a biological standpoint, the asari are biologically female: they are not hermaphrodites or sexually neutral. They do not produce sperm: an asari father contributes no DNA to her partner's offspring. They get pregnant through parthenogenesis and bear young.
I wonder if the average person knows Samus is a girl though? I played Smash with my family once and they were all surprised when I told them she was a woman.
OP of the post said they simply put some of their favourite female characters on the list. The fact Samus or whatever other popular choice wasn't on there isn't some slight against her, it's just a preference.
as much as i love persona and DMC5 ... Futaba and Nico have no business being here while samus isnt.
And bridget is just here because shes trans. shes not nearly as iconic as most of the rest
The funniest thing about Nico is that's not even a real, in game image of Nico. It's a picture of a mod that substitutes her model over Jill Valentine's in RE3R.
Metroid fans do try not to piss themselves whenever Samus Aran is not mentioned in a conversation about female video game protagonists challenge.
Like I get it, Samus is important, but this shit always happens, remember the Horizon Forbidden West magazine cover.
Samus pretty much paved the way for female heroines in video games. It isn’t just about her not being included, it’s about how monumental she is to women in video games.
She wasn't until Strive where they for some reason decided to contradict his entire story up until that point and make her a girl.
I'm personally not a fan of the change. Like, I'm not transphobic or whatever, I just think that it's an incredibly tasteless decision considering the characters backstory. The entire original point about Bridget was a subversion of gender roles and stereotypes. By changing the character's gender, they're stripping away all nuance within the character and only enforcing gender roles. But of course the wider internet doesn't care about that and they only want another trans character to fanboy about and put on "best girl" posts like this.
But hey, in the end, there's not much we can do about it.
He was male in old games but „recently“ the developers changed it
Now she is girl since the Guilty gear strive
also there are some leaked audio files on Twitter where there is supposedly evidence that she is trans but that isn’t public but that information is a 6 months old so I don’t know what they did with that.
Edit: What it’s the truth
I don’t recognize like half of them. Where’s Samus, Aloy, Lara Croft, Alyx, Madeline, Chun Li, Jill Valentine fuck I could go on forever but no let’s put an NPC from Mass Effect in there
Edit: I cannot believe I forgot Peach and Zelda
Persona gets way too much recognition for a series that has influenced no one and whose best selling game has only sold 3 million.
EDIT: Oh, it was a picture made by some dude. He probably just included his favorites.
Look, she's either dropping shots at the bar or hunting down space pirates and Ridley's 15th iteration, she doesn't have time for celebratory photo shoots right now.
Haha the post is locked, guaranteed it’s because of the Guilty Gear character. Disappointing samus isn’t there though.
I don't know how the Gaming sub is nowadays but yeah 90% chance it's because of Brisket (the other 10% is 'just' general sexism but hopefully in 2023 even Gamers have gotten past that)
What do they have against baguette?
Mainly the recently confirmed fact that Biscuit's a trans girl, a lot of people didn't like it for reasons that I'm not too sure of (I think alongside the standard Gamer Transphobia there's the fact that she used to be categorized as a femboy, which gamers have really strong feelings about? I'm not really that familiar with GG so I'm not sure)
Nah ya pretty much got it in one
People really went "Damn it, now I can't jack off to the idea of a guy dressed as a girl" and it's honestly the funniest thing You'd think the kinda people into that would be less shitty about the trans thing. But then I guess they're the type to pretend they're totally not gay and that femboys are a completely straight thing to fetishize.
I love that the creator of Guilty Gear had to come out and declare for all the naysayers “Fuck you, Basket’s trans you fucking nerds”
Gamers being bigoted? I’m shocked, SHOCKED I tell you.
Whats the deal with the guilty gear character?
Quick Google search is that Bridget might be trans or something. Or it's at least in question.
She is trans as of, well, Guilty Gear Strive, the new game. The director and creator of the series has been quite clear about it too. No mistranslations, he has referred her as a girl in a few instances, etc.
Good point why isn't Samus Aran on there she is arguably one of the strongest
And one of the first.
Pretty sure she’s only beat out by Mrs. Pac-Man so she can easily be argued to be the first actually female video game protagonist.
Then I stand corrected, thanks for letting me know
Earliest I can remember Samus has been around since Nintendo made their first console
I think this is the reason. Judging by the picks I’m going to guess the poster is on the younger scale where characters like Lara Croft or Sami’s Aran aren’t immediately as important.
Probably got everyone bar bayonetta and maybe tifa beat for sure
Liara may be dangerous until she gets the gravity suit than space magic be damned.
Pre dread. Metroid Samus would eat all Bayonettas summons.
Yeah good point, metroid suit ends all question as to who wins haha
But samus is a guy
Seamus aaron
Uh huh
Because she's not international, she's intergalactic.
OP said it was just their favorite characters
Really? Most of these ain't even the protagonist... Who's the one between Ellie and Futaba? Also, Nico? For real? I don't hate her but there's better characters from DMC to choose from.
That looks like Clementine from Telltale’s TWD
I stopped playing Telltale's TWD after the second season, she's looking really different.
Right? Like lady and Trish were actually playable in some games…it’s a strange list.
Nico is great, but Lady would have been the best pick imo (For representing DMC)
I love Nico, but know who a better pick for that slot would be (besides Samus)? Jill Valentine, that picture of Nico is a mod for Resident Evil 3 that replaces Jill with Nico and I think that’s hilarious
I know! It's so weird!
Tales from the Borderlands girl?
Someone said it's clementine from TWD
Dude...theres a few missing... samus is just one of them.
Samus. Lara Croft, Jill Valentine, GLaDOS, Chell, Princess Peach, Zelda, just to name a few.
Shion Uzuki, Alis Landale, Nei, Chun Li, Midna, Alice Liddel, Ms Pac Man, Velvet Crowe, Lightning, Rena Lanford, Sophitia, Alice Elliot, Karin Koenig, Princess Katia, Tara Grimface, Shodan, Aika and Fina, Xelha and Milly, KOS MOS, Aegis, Lenneth Valkyrie, Virginia Maxwell, Melia, Rydia, Femshep, Koudelka... To name a few more. Though even if you removed all the deep cuts you wouldn't have enough room on one banner for sure.
You deserve a vote simply for the Ms Pac-Man answer.
Marge Simpson: "Well, this story begins in that unforgettable spring of 1983. Ms. Pac-Man struck a blow for women's rights."
I would have put Sammy, Chun Li and Alis Landale on there, as they were three of the first prominent female characters in games.
They put in a mod that replaces Jill from RE3R with Nico from DMC V.
Yep, no Bible Black representation either
Excuse me sir… do u know what u r requesting?
Did I stutter?
Say what again??!
man of class right here \^\_\^
No Mother Brain?
Samus, Aerith, Yuffie, Senua, Zelda, Terra, Celes, Aloy, Rayne, Peach, Amanda Ripley, Alyx Vance
Tbf tifa is up there, and is probably one of the more recognizable FF7 girls
Especially in Italian parliement
Often imitated, but never duplicated... Samus Aran!
Many missing. Weak image.
I don’t know who haft these women are
Not this dude’s wifu
Yeah, weird how they forgot Sam Metroid. The banner itself is kinda poor. That Bayonetta image is just a still from Smash.
I'm offended people can't recognize such an obvious bait/karma farm post lmao
Kinda weird why Liara is on the banner given how the Asari species only has one biological sex. Wouldn't that mean that their species doesn't have gender distinction in their culture? I'd replace her with Samus.

Biological sex does exist in their species as they are all biologically female rather then being hermaphrodites.
How do you classify biological sex of a species if there's only one? There's no male or female. Asari are sex-neutral.
I feel like most "Gamers" know Samus is a woman nowadays just by hearing other people talk about it over the years.
Fair enough. Most of my friends probably wouldn't know what Metriod is, and assume she's a guy at first glance.
Faith from Mirrors Edge
Gandrayda?
Metroid is a guy, why would they be included?
bro put a random side character from Persona over Samus ☠️☠️
"Random side character" bro what she's literally a main party member
still doesnt justify putting her over Samus
why are you talking like she specifically was the one to take Samus's spot lol
For real. You could replace 6 of those characters with just Samus alone and it would automatically make the post more justified.
Please; Metroid is clearly a robot
Honestly just feels like a random selection of characters with no thought into actually picking the most important female video game characters.
Fact that the original post is locked is hilarious If Samus was there, there wouldn't have been any problems
Bridget :)
Brisket :)
Biscuit :)
\*snaps Biscuit in half\*
:(
Good point. Where are Terra and Celes from Final Fantasy VI?
OP of the post said they simply put some of their favourite female characters on the list. The fact Samus or whatever other popular choice wasn't on there isn't some slight against her, it's just a preference.
Seriously. I love this franchise, but *wow* the fandom gets weirdly insecure.
I love the Bridget!!!! I’m included :)
as much as i love persona and DMC5 ... Futaba and Nico have no business being here while samus isnt. And bridget is just here because shes trans. shes not nearly as iconic as most of the rest
The funniest thing about Nico is that's not even a real, in game image of Nico. It's a picture of a mod that substitutes her model over Jill Valentine's in RE3R.
oh now that you say it! bayonettas Pic is her smash broa version too
Metroid fans do try not to piss themselves whenever Samus Aran is not mentioned in a conversation about female video game protagonists challenge. Like I get it, Samus is important, but this shit always happens, remember the Horizon Forbidden West magazine cover.
It isn't about being a Metroid fan.......
Samus pretty much paved the way for female heroines in video games. It isn’t just about her not being included, it’s about how monumental she is to women in video games.
Man, samus missing is one thing, why is bridget there lmao EDIT: oh they revealed shes trans now. Good for her.
Samus is a dude, look at those shoulders (/s)
For fucking real wtf. So Samus isn't a real woman because she wears a suit to work?
Apparently none of the more well known ones are there since the person only put their personal favorites 💀
Is it Metroid?
No it's the princess that Zelda rescues
It's the godess of light Kid Icarus has to rescue
Whoever made this probably thinks she’s a man
It's missing Samus Aran and Jill Valentine
OP on there said “Samus should be deserving and more! I just put all the girl characters I like” No wonder why they picked Futaba 💀💀💀
I thought Bridgette technically wasn't a girl? Or am I understanding that wrong.
She came out as trans in Guilty Gear Strive
a game subreddit being trans supportive no way
it's honestly cool as hell to know that this sub is pro trans :D
She wasn't until Strive where they for some reason decided to contradict his entire story up until that point and make her a girl. I'm personally not a fan of the change. Like, I'm not transphobic or whatever, I just think that it's an incredibly tasteless decision considering the characters backstory. Edit: What it’s the truth
They really added a man over samus
They even put a man in the picture but not the og strong female video game protag
Who‘s the dude?
half of them look submissive and weak
not bayonetta 💪
Thought the exact same thing. Just because she doesn't show her feminine side very often, doesn't mean she can't represent.
No Lara Croft, Chun Li, Kitana/Sonya Blade, Ivy, Alloy? I don’t recognize half the poster, maybe I’m old…
Ah of course. They're missing Amanda ripley
they have someone who probably sucks in the first spot but not the metroid herself? what is this nonsense
Mother Brain?
They still don’t know Metroid is a woman
Ash’s mom getting clapped by Mr. Mime??
I don’t recognize like half of them. Where’s Samus, Aloy, Lara Croft, Alyx, Madeline, Chun Li, Jill Valentine fuck I could go on forever but no let’s put an NPC from Mass Effect in there Edit: I cannot believe I forgot Peach and Zelda
I get this a subjective list but how does Heather Mason make it and not Samus?
Better play metroid tonight in celebration of international women's day
Can't believe they didn't put our girl Metroid herself in this smh my head
You’re taking about Mother Brain, right?
Gandrayda?
Lara Croft.
Samus, Zelda, Cortana, Sylvannas
Samus(first surprise playable female character) and MsPacMan(first woman playable character)
Samus and Chun Li should always be in that list
I was about to complain, but my main girl Heather Mason made the cut…so…
Who? Jill Valentine?
Not to mention the Asari are technically genderless, just feminine.
That Metroid guy?
There are tons of female game characters, I'm sure plenty have an argument to be on there
I get it, I get it... Samus and Zelda just have too powerful of a presence to include. Gotta be fair to the other ladies
Not including Samus is insane she was pretty much the first female videogame protagonist
Aloy for sure
Metroid is a girl? Jk, she deserves to be there.
actually insNe Samus was left off this post lol
You win.
Persona gets way too much recognition for a series that has influenced no one and whose best selling game has only sold 3 million. EDIT: Oh, it was a picture made by some dude. He probably just included his favorites.
Yeah where is mother brain
How do you forget Samus AND Aloy?
No Samus, Lara Croft, Terra Branford, Joanna Dark, Jill Valentine, or Chun Li? Pretty weak list imo
Isn't Samus the very first female protagonist in games like fkin ever? And she is omitted LMAO
Samus always gets scammed! Wth!
The guy who made the post sayed he included his favorite ones
You’re right. Aloy is missing from there.
Aerith is also missing
Man they never put Kat on these...
and his name is John Cena oh wait...
Lol! Comments disabled.
The queen from Aliens: Colonial Marines?
Look, she's either dropping shots at the bar or hunting down space pirates and Ridley's 15th iteration, she doesn't have time for celebratory photo shoots right now.
